Agreed - I would prefer a slightly longer cut though - I think the editor cut a few moments short - especially when she was about to play. I felt myself saddened that I missed seeing that after the abrupt cut.
She seems very knowledgeable about the techniques and the actually construction of her song writing. Very inspiring. Wish I could get a hang of the tapping.
Beautiful music from a beautiful person. It amazes me how you have the most interesting people and interviews. Your show is always uplifting and filled with positive thoughts, that alone is a rarity on the internet. Thank you, your guest, and your production crew for the work that ya’ll do.
I'm 2 years late to the party, but it's so cool to see Math Rock on the forefront of music now. I remember listening to bands like Maps & Atlases and Minus the Bear back in 08', thinking I was onto something esoteric. But amazing people like Yvette Young are making it more accessible and fun to jam out to for a wider audience, which is AWESOME
I'm amazed! There's been a long time since i listened to such beautiful sounds. People tend to do the same old stuff everybody do, she's doing something awesome. Amazing music!
Another great profile. This is why I love this series; it's not just the same household name players. Also, super bonus cool points for the metal flake Talman! Looks like something Dweezil himself would have played during the "Automatic" era.
what an amazing player, a new name to me- Dweezil has a way of just nodding quietly and letting the guest open up - you can see Yvette relaxing and expressing more as the show progresses.
Dweezil is perfect for this. He’s such a monster player and his musical heritage is that of some of the most cutting and pushing in modern music but with that said he’s so humble, open and genuine. You really see his honest openness to these incredible talents at the forefront of the instruments future, no ego just real exchanges and conversations. That’s what we need in art and the world.
truly one of the greats in this generation of guitarists. so fun to watch her play because of the that finger pick tapping style. can't get enough of her an covet recently!
I love seeing great players like this getting more well deserved recognition, and seeing Yvette with Dweezil is really damn cool, I'd love to see more videos with Dweezil or even other great players doing the interviewing
I didn't even recognize Dweezil. It's awesome to have a phenomenal guitarist interviewing another phenomenal guitarist (becasue they both can relate to playing, musicianship, and guitar theory).
As the father of a 10 year old girl getting into guitar, this is very inspiring! What an amazing player! More females please...also that JC-120 in the background is 👍👍👍
Lol Dweezil didn't dare play his guitar the whole time. Awesome! I'm more into early 90s bands and heavier stuff but I also love bands like circa survive, and Doug martsch's built to spill an modest mouse point being the whole math rock thing never grabbed me but I think Yvette's style is great. It's so much fun to learn parts of songs like hers so I can write my own cause it's a great way to fill in the gaps tonally when writing solo stuff.
Michael Inglis I'm a circa fan, too. But I have to say math rock just delights my neurons...especially once you get to know the songs. I Can't even tell what it is I like; it's just really satisfying. I think TTNG's music is probably the most accessible. Their songs still have a familiar structure, even if the riffs and rhythms are odd. I also really like Look Mexico's album This is Animal Music. That was the first Mathy band I listened to.
@@griffox Ill have to listen to both of them, thanks for the suggestions. After writing that comment I thought about it and I remember seeing Pinback labeled as math rock among other things and they are quite possibly my favorite band ever. Anyways thanks again!
About time someone on youtube did an interview on her, but i wasnt expecting Zappa. btw "Toe" and american football are great. does anyone know how its really pronounced ?
Tushar Kakshapati it’s pronounced toe (on your foot) ! Great band and the other bands she mentioned are cool too. I was actually surprised to hear she was influenced by toe considering the stylistic differences
I love her to death she has so much fun in everything she does her music what she's calling "math rock" really reminds me of Robert Fripp and the guitar craft style with his new standard tuning
please make more videos highlighting artist using your brand, they are great! I see erniball doing those videos constantly, and well, I KNOW that daddario could make some amazing artist video highlighting some of THIER own talent, using Daddario!
How important is the action of the guitar when playing in this style? Is it way easier to get loud, percussive taps with higher action or lower action?
Wow. Nearly fifty years of playing, and I feel like I should just throw my guitars in the river. How can anyone be THAT good?? And she's gorgeous and funny, too, and so young (no pun intended). A brilliant talent, she should shine for many years to come. Thanks for bringing her to my attention. Wow.
Saw Yvette live last night and was thinking about what Frank would make of the 3 members of Covet ...... and then find this video where she's demonstrating her style to Dweezil .....
I've always loved Yvette because she proves that women can kick ass and be amazing guitarists too. The industry is dominated by male guitarists so seeing her thrive and change the game is amazing.
A Wonderful dream I had: an interesting young lady playing the guitar in a wonderful way. Interviewed by the son of one of the greatest musicians of all time, who himself is a brilliant guitar player. This is a dream, right? This can't be real...
I remember running across Yvettes channel when she was young and unfamous because i was looking up Descendents covers and she did one of Clean Sheets and i remember thinking "this little girl ia pretty good". I hadn't seen anything else of hers and then maybe a few years later I started seeing her videos pop up when I was looking at math rock bands and then I realized she is pretty famous now 👍.
Jimmy Hendrix, did his thing in the hospital, too. Gosh, you guys had cool hospitals...lol I know i'd be amazed, with her electric violin. Sheesh, she's brainy, smooth. I love watching her do that, designy stuff.
Check out our episode of Guitar Power, featuring Kaki King: ddar.io/KakiKing
Not sure if it got mentioned in the video like at all... but her band is called Covet, in case you wanted to know.
Its in the description
She mentioned Ttng, american football, and Toe, awesome bands.
Yvette you are amazing!
When she said "Japanese band" I thought she was going to say "Tricot", but Toe makes more sense, lol
Ah, I see you're a man of culture aswell
@@abcrx32j Tricot is a nice band too!
I was so happy when she mentioned them, American football and Appleseed cast are my favorite bands. I think "clean" sounds need to come back
Don't forget Don Caballero
Fantastic guitarist and artist I will check out the bands she mentions. Dweezil is a terrific interviewer, very easy to watch.
Agreed - I would prefer a slightly longer cut though - I think the editor cut a few moments short - especially when she was about to play. I felt myself saddened that I missed seeing that after the abrupt cut.
Mrs. Smith, you rock!
Mrs Smith is ERRRY where these days. Hello again! TATA
Thanks for watching!
I agree. He asks questions a musician would want to know instead of going off on a tangent.
The world needs to know about Yvette!
She seems very knowledgeable about the techniques and the actually construction of her song writing. Very inspiring. Wish I could get a hang of the tapping.
"I'm forced to confront what I've done" could only be referring to time signature if it's coming from Yvette Young.
Beautiful music from a beautiful person. It amazes me how you have the most interesting people and interviews. Your show is always uplifting and filled with positive thoughts, that alone is a rarity on the internet. Thank you, your guest, and your production crew for the work that ya’ll do.
Thank you for the kind words and thank you for watching!
Her entire band Covet is great! Go see them if they tour near you. Also her piano stuff is super pretty and intense too.
infinitely thankful for people who can shred but understand contrast is key to keeping people interested

Met her in Dallas the other day! She signed my guitar and was super humble. Absolutely inspiring guitarist and super influential to my playing
Love that she mentioned TTNG. Tim is such a fantastic guitar player, and he writes some gorgeous classical riffs.
I'm amazed! There's been a long time since i listened to such beautiful sounds. People tend to do the same old stuff everybody do, she's doing something awesome. Amazing music!
Thank you Daddario for take a litttle bit of the amazing Yvette, i don´t think words to describe that woman is amazing !

Take a shot every time Dweezil says "yeah".
17 shots
yvette's (and covet) songs are one of the only few things that can calm me down instantly... thanks for everything
Great player. Really interesting approach. Dweezil is a great interviewer. Thanks!
This is the first time I´v seen Dweezil since 1993... Head bangers ball MTV.. Yvette was 2 back then.. Put things in perspective.
2:30 "I'll show you something..." /me head assplodes. I keep re-watching that one extended phrase; I'm never going to finish the video.
Great! D'Addario is the only brand that can touch my guitars!

Dweezil is a great interviewer.
YES. Insta-clicked this video from my feed. She is such a great musician to have on this series.
Man this was a great interview. Yvette is great, and chill, dweezil seems like on the same vibe it was great.
8:50 i loved her response, almost cried. It is also the approach i have in music
I didn't even recognize Dweezil. It's awesome to have a phenomenal guitarist interviewing another phenomenal guitarist (becasue they both can relate to playing, musicianship, and guitar theory).
Glad she mentioned American Football. Ms. Young, now I'm a fan!
O shit, Dweeeeeezil and Yvette.
Does anyone else realize how revolutionary her playing style is
It does impress me a lot. Her style is going upward
Google Stanley Jordan
Not a new playing style but definitely not a conventional one. Sounds great. She’s one of my favourites.
Cringe
Astolfo trap

her music brings joy to this godforsaken world

She's fantastic. Had not heard of her before, so, thank you Mr Zappa
This made me cry
Glad this is showcasing some artists that deserve it!

I'm only about 5 minutes in but damn, Dweezil Zappa is an awesome interviewer. This is some great content.
awesome interviewer? she made him book so basic. he looked like a deer in headlights.
Love this show so much. Fantastic interview!!
I loved this interview!
Covet is outstanding
very talented young lady, and another top interview by Dweezil. these videos a great!
Yvette sounds so wholesome, would listen yo her play or even just speak the whole day
I love Your Unique ly Beautiful Guitar style, You are a Treasure to my ears.
Yvette's so good: plays all this, doesn't even name drop her own band. Amazing.
Great interview !
Two great guitar players !
I love her to death
she has so much fun in everything she does
her music what she's calling "math rock" really reminds me of Robert Fripp and the guitar craft style with his new standard tuning
Yep. King Crimson, Adrian Belew/ Fripp, etc. I had the album "Discipline" among others on audio cassette in the mid 1980s.
Well i just discovered this channel so...holy shit. Not a guitar person specifically but i cant wait to watch these.
Thanks!
Excellent interview, yet again - great to hear artists heretofore unknown to me... Thanks!
Such a cool person, one of the top guitarists of our time I'd say. She's so humble as well.
She is such a fresh voice in person and on guitar. Math Rock Rules!
She's fantastic.
What a sense of joy comes through her music! Piano and violin's loss. (and Dweezil looks kinda sweet on her. Understandable.)
you can see him falling in love. I did too.
"7-11 just like the store."
Good one Dweezil...

Very cool, thanks.

What a joy it must be to interview with a guy who reacts to all your art like a kid showing off his dive in the swimming pool.
Yvette Young is fantastic and extremely original! Great artist too, I'l love to get her to paint one of my guitars someday.
How important is the action of the guitar when playing in this style? Is it way easier to get loud, percussive taps with higher action or lower action?
Doesn't matter that much. I find medium to lowish is best. Not super low though.
@@stethoscanomaly Thank you :)
I really enjoy this series!!
I wish this video would've been like 2 hours long. Amazing!!!

2:53 since it's dweezil i wasn't sure if he was joking or not at first
7:39 what on earth was that :O
Sea Dragon or Nautilus I believe. It's from the band she's in called Covet.
@@BenJennings-Bionicsonic It's Nautilus
If your interested in other music like that, look up some math rock bands
One of covet's songs, I think.
@@ShirleyTempleOnDVD no im already familiar with this style but that in particular was wildly interesting
Yvette and Covet need to get added to the next Super CHON Brothers tour with TTNG, CHON, and Tricot !!!
UTubeIsStupidForMakingMeCreateYetAnotherAccount Amazing show. was awesome.
shes great
Wow really impressed. I like the open chords and tapping..
sickkk
8:05-8:15 what the fuck is that magic shes playing? Is that one of her songs? I need more than just those 10 seconds of audio miracle.
It's Nautilus by Covet (her band) ruclips.net/video/7oM5Uqb1_D0/видео.html
Love it!
The fact she mentions Don Cab as pioneers makes my respect for her grow x10000000
Effloresce is also the name of an album by (now defunct) Oceansize.
I use D'addario already but if not I would have started just because of Yvette!
Amazing playing, amazing interview. Great stuff!
two legends! mr dweezil and ms yvette
That riff on 7:40 💖
Finally! About time for math rock!
thanks for subtitles
Saw Yvette live last night and was thinking about what Frank would make of the 3 members of Covet ...... and then find this video where she's demonstrating her style to Dweezil .....
She's great, finally something new and fresh, you should invite other "youtube guitarist" like Beau Diakowicz, Jose Macario and Sam Birchall.
Idk if Beau Diakowicz actually knows how to talk tho
