this situation really depends on how your opponents stance is currently at. typically it looks like this technique is useful when the opponents jab glove is set up high above the chin is unable to see from that angle. though if the opponents jab glove is lowered little under the chin so the opponent could see, it is more noticeable to parry along that elbow and counter while the guy who pulls this techniques is coming closer to the opponent for the counter. this is not a winning punch....

with boxing glove, u cant use this technique. 90% the punch will be blocked by hold up his elbow. but it might work in MMA which uses smaller glove.
