Not sure what type of masking tape is required for projects like these but the masking tape with plastic sheets attached can be purchased at Home Depot and Lowe’s. It’s a 3M product with your basic painters Blue masking tape. Not overly expensive too as I recall. I’m guessing a downside for Tamiya is it may have a price premium on it. But am not sure. And it’s not necessarily a downside but the 3M has Large sheets attached to it since it is used for the interior walls of houses. Simply trim the plastic down to size. If you have easy access to Tamiya go for it. But if HD or Lowes is easier you should be able to find it there also.

We always recommend using the product specifically designed for plastic model kits (e.g. Tamiya tape, AK tape, Vallejo tape, etc.). You certainly can save money by purchasing a 3M product from a big box store, but in our experience it's not quite the same ease of use unless you're a very advanced modeler.

So essentially all that “color modulation” disappears once the top coat is applied.

The top coat has to be sprayed on so that it is translucent. Meaning that 10 to 15 percent of the panel line shading does faintly so through. Just enough to trick the eye.

very poor video. the air brush was out of the screen all we saw was the Macy sign and the back of your hand, total waste of time.

But, the next time you’re strolling through Macy’s, you’ll remember this tutorial and purchase a Macy’s custom paint booth…
