Of course, your job is astounding .Brilliant, but, furthermore , your video shows to us , Frenchies, how our freedom relied on this rather tiny and cramped bomber, and also the amount of courage needed for flying into this tin can, with all respect due to your veterans. Very nice, I was an avid modeler in my youth, probably from 10 years of age on. I always enjoyed building and painting them. I’m a year shy of 60 now, and built a few models the past few years. My son bought me an air brush kit for my birthday, I haven’t used it yet (never used one before at all) but I think I’m going to start getting into the level of detail that you and others on RUclips so graciously share your knowledge and tips for others to give it a go. You did such a great job with the interior, it would be a shame to close it up never to be seen again. I like the idea you suggested or are thinking of, not gluing the top so you can still have access to the interior. Great job!
My father-in-law was a waist gunner on a B-17 in Europe during WWII. While on his 20th or so mission he took flack or a bullet in the hand and spent a few days in a hospital in Italy and while he was there his plane was shot down with all hands lost. Got to visit a warbird museum with him where they had a B-17 you could walk through. He told me how during a mission the empty shell casings would pile up around their feet so high it would start to get hard to move around in them. That plus having to wrestle the gun against the heavy wind drag against the barrel sticking out the side of the plane made gun battles physically exhausting. I asked him if his plane had a name or nose art and he said "Georgia's Peach"
He was based in Foggia Italy. The name might have been George's Peach. Seems like it was a play on words in some way because I remember he smiled when he said it like the name is a joke in itself. My memory is a little vague on the name. I know the shoot down happened late in the war, like 1944. They had stopped painting the bombers camouflage by then and they were shiny aluminum @@innerlight7018
Thanks! However, I can pop the top off whenever I like and look inside. The front half of the nose section isn’t glued either so I can look at the nav/bombardier section too 😎
I had a chance to go inside Fifi the b-29. I will never forgot that experience. I also had a chance to talk with the pilot mr. Harper . A perfect gentleman.

I bought this kit, but I am waiting on the 3d printed decals for instrument panel and all other cockpit items from Quinta Studio. It still isn't available but I got my hopes up, then I will start with the fuselage. I made the wings already.
Great detail, it always baffle’s me why they don’t put the option of clear fuselage so you can show off your interior work,it’s a lot of money to pay to have everything covered don’t you think,,once again fantastic job 👍👍👍
You aren't the only modeler that I've seen weather the bombs. Bombs weren't subjected to the same elements that the exteriors of planes were. Surely, they got knocked and scuffed a bit during transportation and handling, but not to the same extent. Yes, the flooring was wooden, but it was often painted with the same zinc chromate interior green as the rest of the surrounding panels. American green is not the same gray-green as the British color, Tamiya XF 71. But most if this is moot, considering what can be seen when the fuselage is assembled. I enjoyed your video. Your painting and comments are quite good!
In England in WW2 the USAAF build up was so rapid they ended up piling bombs outdoors. When researching I saw lots of beat up bombs so I went with it. Re the floors I was informed by the late stage of the war, they didn’t bother painting too much the G’s off the production line as they weren’t expected to last long enough, that went for fuse interior & floor. Hear you on the colour though.
Zinc Chromate interior green was never used on the B-17. All models of Fortress were unpainted internally, with the exception being the exposed metal on the flight deck which was bronze green. All others areas were in natural metal. Floors were natural wood with black anti-slip matting.
HGW are my favourite belts. The backing is designed to be peeled off. Scrunch them up into a ball then fit the buckles. I normally stain mine with an oil wash because they can be a little harsh. Those Masterdetails ammo belts look a little Meh??
Someone already made that revelation to me about the belts. Every day is a school day right lol. Yes the MD belts were awful and cracked when bent which is why I used the kit parts in the end.
Great kit! amazing detail! one thing though, how do you figure out the order in which you paint the parts? I'd imagine for such a huge model it could be a daunting task... I'm not talking about what order is in the book, or the obvious ones, like interior first, then move on to the exterior..but for example I've seen you've built some parts of the wings like the wheel but not the propeller? how does one figure out what to paint first and then attach to the model?

Round 8:22, I hear a background noise reminding me of engine noises of a big commercial jets. Is this true? Decades past, whilst at university here, I for a time had lived directly under the glide-path leading to the airport here, so I heard my share of those sounds.
So Im assembling a Replica inside a game and I came across something that I DID NOT know about on the B17 and oddly enough cant seem to find anything on... Under the Radio Compartment has an area where it states they stored 3 Large G1 tanks of Oxygen. The ones behind the Pilot the BIG ONES. In looking this up I discovered it was an area used to store the cameras that the Radio Operator used. Oddly enough you cant find anything on it in google that ive seen yet and nearly all model B17 Replicas DO NOT include those Oxygen Bottles under that compartment nor do they include the compartment in their models. Also Ive been inside multiple B17s and I have not ever seen anything about under the Radio Compartment.
Yes folks,if youre considering this kit,i would say,its not really neccessary to go over board with anymore interior detailing.Once you put it together,its quite dark inside.Only really the cockpit and nose area you can see much.
Hi, although I have not experienced WW2 myself, my father told me a lot about it and how the majestic B17 bombers seriously contributed to the liberation of occupied Europe and the Netherlands from where I come. I must say you did an exceptionally fantastic job building this WW2 icon. The only tiny bit of doubt that creeped into my mind is whether the bombs in reality looked that wheathered. It would appear to me they hadn't seen much sunlight before being loaded into the bomb bay. Sorry for nit-picking, but it cought my attention. As I already said, excellent job! Do you have plans to make a video about building an Avro Lancaster? I think I would like that even more...

Hello, micromesh is an industrial very fine grade polishing cloth available with different grades of fineness. You can get it off eBay, it’s not cheap but you can wash and reuse it. The maps were bought separately, yes but I’m sorry I don’t remember the manufacturer.
When you say the seatbelts "split" when you bent them, do you mean they split at the bend or split the long way? I know they have a paper backing that you have to take off first to give them their flexibility. Maybe that was what you were seeing? Nice job anyway
One thing I have to say is that you must have a lot of time on your hands. I didn't even have that much time when I was a kid slapping together Frog and Airfix 1/72 scale kits.
Very fair comment! Recently I've stumbled into a strange & unconventional work pattern which gives me a lot of day time free when the kids are at school & wife is as work so the devil made work for my idle hands!
I did the wooden flooring very similar..Hes right about the ball turret.Its probably the worst part of the kit,the instructions are quite vague as to how you put it together.There are 2 little piping pieces with no real clue as to how they attach,and some kind of panel thats supposed to go inside,but god knows how.Otherwise great kit.
it IS very beautiful !!!! but..... what ?! no electric wiring, oil pressure hoses maybe... ??? there's a lot of space there, it could the most amazing interior. or maybe in the real thing there are no wirings show ?
Indeed there are lots and lots of pipes cables and hoses, but I'm strictly a kit builder rather than a scratchbuilder. There are way more talented guys out there doing that. 1:20 I thought bombs are expendables. They are exposed to daylight/atmosphere just a few hours before they are dropped. Why make them look so weathered?
Yes a few people have said that. I did a bit of research and in England at the time due to the sheer amount of USAAF bombs they quickly ran out of indoor storage such that they were left in the elements. I've seen photos of them looking pretty tatty but at the end of the day I could have saved a bit of work and shown them mint and it would have been just as valid.
When you referenced the nose guns as "MG's" was that just short for machine guns, or did you slip up with the model of guns? Because Germany had the MG (Maschinengewehr) and the guns in the B-17g were Ms Browning. Just curious, not trying to be internet armchair historian 😁

Hello for the paints on this one was mainly Tamiya acrylics but I’ve now discovered AK Real Colour and am now going to use them exclusively as my airbrush loves them. Brushes, all random makes mostly v.old sable, a few Tamiya & windsor & Newton artist type, nothing special really.
Just use some magnets 🧲 to fastin the other parts of the body together so that when you want to display the inside details its not super glued together the wing will go with the other body half.

Because I suck at detail modeling, I went to a 1/1 scale B-17. I have 4000 hrs involved in Texas Raiders. Plane was a pile of pieces when I started, and was flying when I left. I was just a small part of the crew that put it back together. Big projects were reskinning the chin turret. Rebuilding the hyd system and putting it back in its original place. Putting the astrodome back to its original configuration. Building a passengar seat for rides. Tail gunners area restoration. Outer wing restoration and other minor projects. While I followed your build It was like I was back in Houston rebuilding TR. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
Wow you humble me by even comparing such an undertaking to my plastic model build here. I’d love to be able to get so close to these machines and their history, your gigantic warbird scene is just one of the many many reasons I wish I lived in the US!
I have a model of similar scale to that one of a b17 that my dad made 30-40 years ago. He melted parts of it to make it look as if it was going down. It still hangs in my room and I love it
Truly outstanding modeling. I wonder where the real B-17 you’re building was based. Several USAAF bases were in East Anglia, where one of my father’s cousins was based.

In WW2 in the UK bombs were stored outside in all kinds of weather/mud. There are many photographs showing examples.
Instrument panel is impressive, but engine details seem poor for that scale.

In hindsight, I think that they would be un fused until use, and that's the part that needs protecting from the elements isn't it? Consider myself educated!
What Brand of paint and Brushes do you use
Hello for the paints on this one was mainly Tamiya acrylics but I’ve now discovered AK Real Colour and am now going to use them exclusively as my airbrush loves them. Brushes, all random makes mostly v.old sable, a few Tamiya & windsor & Newton artist type, nothing special really.
thos ebombs would have been dropped as soon as possible after they were made, they shouldnt be distressed at all tbh
Not necessarily true. On some bases they were stored outside, sometimes for months in the mud & inclement weather.

I assume everything is going to be hidden inside the aircraft and therefore not visible. It just seems a bit pointless.
I can remove the top whenever I like to see the inside. Otherwise it would be, yes. I show it in the next video

Just use some magnets 🧲 to fastin the other parts of the body together so that when you want to display the inside details its not super glued together the wing will go with the other body half.

Because I suck at detail modeling, I went to a 1/1 scale B-17. I have 4000 hrs involved in Texas Raiders. Plane was a pile of pieces when I started, and was flying when I left. I was just a small part of the crew that put it back together. Big projects were reskinning the chin turret. Rebuilding the hyd system and putting it back in its original place. Putting the astrodome back to its original configuration. Building a passengar seat for rides. Tail gunners area restoration. Outer wing restoration and other minor projects. While I followed your build It was like I was back in Houston rebuilding TR. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
Wow you humble me by even comparing such an undertaking to my plastic model build here. I’d love to be able to get so close to these machines and their history, your gigantic warbird scene is just one of the many many reasons I wish I lived in the US!

I have a model of similar scale to that one of a b17 that my dad made 30-40 years ago. He melted parts of it to make it look as if it was going down. It still hangs in my room and I love it

Truly outstanding modeling. I wonder where the real B-17 you’re building was based. Several USAAF bases were in East Anglia, where one of my father’s cousins was based.
Thank you, it was part of 91st Bomb Group 401st Bomb Squadron which I think was Bassingbourne Cambridgeshire but that's just off a quick google.
