this series will forever be funny to me because they build up the divergent as having real“chosen one” energy, only for divergents to just basically be normal, multifaceted human beings lolol
I know! "Divergent" is just another way of saying you can think for yourself and think outside the box without blindly following what everyone else tells you to do. It's sad the more you think about it, that the word "divergent" just means "different" and not even in a bad way. It just means "not the same (as the others)." The Divergent franchise showed what it could be like if everyone just complied to being put in limiting categories they could never escape, or be punished for refusing to fit the mold. In the real world, some authorities are like that... But on other levels, free-thinkers are highly valued and considered skilled at what they do, not unlike the "superpowers" demonstrated in these movies.

not quite... Beatrix forced him to look at her, whom he loves, and he can't kill someone he cares about while looking at them (he has to look away to kill someone that he cares about), and that's what snapped him out of the mind control drug's effect
@@redmoonbloodmoon3161 I think RUclips is trapped in a simulation right now too. It says the original comment happened 5 hours ago, but your response was 8 hours ago. But their message wasn't edited lol
fun little fact, they call people that were in or currently in abnegation “stiffs” because whenever someone hugs them they go stiff. they share all intimate encounters in private as they are brought up to think that every kiss and every hug should be only for the privacy of their homes.
The thing that makes fighting people hard, like Tris vs Peter, is actually that it’s not a life or death situation, you gotta hold back, there’s limits, and you’re never certain your opponent won’t recover and get the upper hand. Especially if somebody in real life has a knife, or even a gun, you have one move to get the upper hand, and then it’s you or them, to the death, sadly, and nothing can prepare you for that situation, cause you can’t practice it of course.
As someone who read every book of this series, my least favorite line change ever is Four saying "What makes you think you can talk to me?" In the book, in this very SCENE, he was so helpful. I remember wathcing this movie and being like "???why did they make him such an ass???" LMAO
They are brother and sister here, and coupled in the fault in our stars. The films were released way too close to eachother. Like 2 months. It was really odd. 😂
38:57 wanted to point out the reason that this worked. Remember earlier in the film when Tris and Four went into Four’s mind to face his fears, one of his 4 fears was killing an innocent and he stated that he “can only do it when he looks away”. Tris remembered this fact and the fact that he also saw her as an innocent in his mind, knowing this she forced him to keep making eye contact with her. This made him unable to do it, effectively pulling him out of the simulation. Just wanted to clear that up in case anyone was confused. Amazing reaction I’m so happy you decided to watch this movie!
Four is played by Theo James. You’ll be happy to know he’s an English actor and has been in several sci-fi/action films. He was recently nominated for an Emmy for his role in drama series The White Lotus. Theo is playing the lead in the upcoming Guy Ritchie Netflix series The Gentlemen. I personally loved him in the series The Time Traveler’s Wife…he was pretty much nude during most of the show. 😅
I actually was an extra in Divergent! I was in the Choosing Ceremony, so none of the cool action scenes. Just sitting in Abnegation for hours and hours. :)
The knife throwing part she had a little attitude to save her friend because she knew he couldn't go through that 😂love eric tho "then it should be easy for u"
Four got out of the sim because tris held the gun to her head and forced him to look at her. Remember that was one of his fears. That’s why she said “look at me” when he grabbed the gun. It was clever of her
I've always wondered whether a less strict version of this society would work. That, for the most part, you stay with like-minded people and your training, jobs, and lifestyle are based on personality, but there is free interaction between factions, you are allowed to switch after a trial period or if you fail initiation, and the factionless aren't really factionless, their faction is just less defined by personality. And the government would be made up of groups of people from each faction.

What got me about the factions is that when you actually look at them, there isn't a single one that doesn't exist (or at least function effectively) without the other traits supporting it. Take Dauntless, since its the main faction of this film: Sure, you have to be fearless (Dauntless), but do you think they could defend the city if they didn't have intelligent (Erudite) people in their ranks, planning strategies and tactics? Do you think that effective plans could exist without a commitment to look at terrain or a scenario and honestly (Candor) see and report it back? We see multiple times Tris acting to inspire and encourage others- that is a concern for morale, for other's happiness (Amity) and effectiveness. And lastly, you are going to have a very difficult time convincing me that there is any act more selfless (Abnegation) than to take hurts and harms onto yourself, in order to protect another's safety and happiness. In point of fact, we see multiple characters who either were or are members of Abnegation making that exact choice (Tris and Four, for the main characters, with both of Tris' parents for secondary, to name two sets). I could honestly do this for every one of the five factions, but I won't hit anyone with an even bigger wall of text. I know the further books address this in a significant way, but I just feel like this theme is baked in from the very beginning.
I read the book for school before watching the movie and reading the book made me enjoy the movie more. They did a good job of creating the scenes from the book, even tho they took a few things out to shorten the time the set designs were really well done.
