As a former Beach Lifeguard in SoCal, yes we do respond to fires if they are on the beach or in our waters. The Department is run as a Semi-Military Organization, meaning we have some military lingo including military time, and have sergeants, lieutenants, captains, and the Chief... The amount of looking away from the beach in this film is insane, we are literally taught to always be looking at the water even when having conversations. I could go on and on about the half-truths that this film has but it's a film that shouldn't be taken seriously.

Seb, as a lifeguard (albeit at a pool not a beach), even if the risk of someone dying is low, we stay LASER focused because if someone dies on our watch, legally we are responsible. That’s part of the reason they are taking it so seriously.
Though it's dumb AF, I unironically love this stupid movie. I grew up watching Baywatch (the show) and this movie simultaneously mocks and honors the show at every opportunity. I do wish they had more OG cast members pop up, but Mitch and CJ are iconic. The action is ridiculous, the girls look amazing, and it's just a lot of silly fun.
You gotta appreciate just how utterly insane the original show was... this movie does a good job replicating that. Part soap opera, part police procedural, part mongoose, part squid... and just when you think it can't get weirder there's Baywatch Nights. Just know I wouldn't expect you to understand. It's not meant for someone who hasn't at least a few seasons of the show in their head. Great reaction though! Your torment was quite entertaining.
You know what? Screw it, I enjoy this film. Obviously, it’s not perfect & really ridiculous, but it’s a film based off of a 90’s tv show that was also ridiculous and over the top. And honestly, i’m really glad the film was like this. It would’ve been so easy to make this a dramatic and serious version of that show, but the film makers knew this. So yeah, I enjoy this film.

Homie watch an episode of bondi beach. Some beaches do have lifeguards that do more than just save drowning people. And some beaches are really dangerous than others so during busy summers etc they will have life guards on duty.

I absolutely loved the original, grew up watching it, so I was a bit worried the movie wouldn't be good. But it was, and it is, and I absolutely loved it, too.
I actually think you should watch Bondi Rescue. The events are all real, and it gives you an idea of what can happen on a beach in real life, and just what lifeguards can be expected to do sometimes 🤷🏻♀ yes it is far-fetched for life guards to bring down an organized crime syndicate, but they absolutely can catch bag thieves, and on Bondi Rescue they've responded to fights, a police chase that ended in the water, a car crash, and a bunch more.

The amount of tragedy that happens on beaches here in Australia just the same as many other places is insane! I live in a tourist hot spot in a tropical country and our lifeguards do respond to fires and theft as long as it's on their jurisdiction. They can also detain someone if they did something illegal and confiscate contrabands, but they would have to call the police for that. They don't do investigations, though. Lifegurading is more than just saving people from drowning, especially the ones working on well-known beaches. One should not underestimate tourists, I have lost count of how many times I've seen them do stupid dangerous shit just because they're in a place where almost nobody knows them therefore they think they can get away with anything.

The run down is by far the rocks best work and it was one of his 1st movies he did. Walking tall also incredible.

I was actually waiting for a negative reaction, since you seem to like most movies. I actually like this movie, my brain is completely turned off when I watch it, which is relaxing. But you not liking it and getting frustrated was also fun to watch :D
