Wonderful what the LORD did with Matthew Henry! As a new Christian, I had to learn how to understand the Bible's more obscure passages - especially in the OT - and Matthew Henry was the man! None of the local churches helped me unpack the Scripture like Matthew Henry did! Henry taught HOW to read & understand the Bible - the basic principles to work it out for yourself in every passage! Most preachers still don't do that! They just say what THEY think the passage means. After constantly referring to Henry it gradually sank in HOW to grasp the big picture of Scripture. Eventually I could decipher how to work through most difficulties by just using the sound principles of exegesis which he had (unbeknownst to me!) been teaching me! A wonderful pastoral gift! He was also rather witty at times. He could come out with little home-made aphorisms, pithy little asides & even moments of poetic beauty. (see his famous 'Why Eve was made from Adam's rib' portion for example) I look forward to (somehow!) seeing this documentary. (None of the 1st three links work btw)
We rebuilt our website and so these older videos will have broken links. I have corrected them. Thanks for letting us know. I also am a Matthew Henry GuRu. 3 things. Read the Bible through 15 times. Traveling to Jerusalem 6 times. Reading Matthew Henry's commentaries once. That will make reading the Bible through 16 times. I will be forever grateful to the Lord for saving me and my family and giving me the time to do these things. Thanks, can't wait to see the movie. God bless you both for this RUclips.
All I know is the dude is obviously some type of genius. I have his Bible Commentary book and it's 2,485 pages in small font. (!). It's incredible to me. I love it. He has great insight
Love, love, LOVE Matthew Henry's commentary. He wrote it for the layman and it reads like a sermon, which I think was his aim. George Whitefield read only two books throughout his life: the Bible, and MH commentary. "Train up a child in the way he should go..." TRAIN, like an athlete, constant and disciplined in every area of his life.
This same Dan Pugh has a great interview with Andrew Davies (who is on the Behold Your God series) on his youtube channel (as well as it looks like others which I haven't got around to watching).
His commentary on Mark chapter 4 is convicting.
