Such a shame that Pellaeon had to lose all the gains from this campaign years later thanks to idiotic Moffs being too greedy, seems like no matter the time and place greed will always be the fall of an Empire

Pelleaon did lose a portion of his conquered territory but he did still keep control of Orinda and a few other systems. Remember the Restored Empire tried to overthrow Pelleaon and the Imperial Remnant in 13 ABY. Orinda was the capital of the remnant at the time.

This made me realize how fun and immersive the orinda GC must be in the current version of TR as you get to fight of the republic and try to rebuild the empire by increasing your legitimacy.
Not as challanging withour rivals maybe, but way less of just a brawl with the NR as it was in earlier versions. Gonna do that for my next campaign for sure!

I love also how this is driven by doctrinal and political issues. It's things like this which make this era 'feel' more real. And years down the line it also shows the New Republic adapting over the coming years - making bigger and stronger ships.

Orinda campaign was a watershed moment that stopped the rot and put Empire back in the game. It Pelleaon had been allowed to consolidate gains and then strike out as he saw fit, instead of immediate continuing offensive, black fleet crisis would have occurred and given empire opportunity of maximum potential to regain enough territory while new republic was distracted with Yevetha to make a negotiated peace workable.

Great consolidation of all the limited info we have on this pivotal campaign. I've been fascinated by the late period of the GCW ever since I read the Essential Atlas and the Essential Guide to Warfare a decade ago and the Battle of Orinda is the most fleshed out element of the period. It's a shame we never got the Orinda, Celanon, and Final Imperial Push campaigns in proper narrative form in novels or games and have to settle for gleaning tidbits from short sourcebook summaries. If they ever start publishing Legends material again...
One thing that always bugged me though, I feel like it would have made more sense to have the Final Imperial Push follow shortly after Orinda and then have the Celanon campaign and the New Republic's final offensives against the Imperial Remnant come later. And Anx Minor should probably be a tactical stalemate rather than a total NR victory to explain why the NR didn't wipe out the remnants of the Remnant while they had the chance.

I don't think it was a lack of aggression, so much a lack of delusion.
The end of this campaign proves it, he's won, stabilized the border as intended, then the Moffs get ambitious and greedy, and they lose the Reaper.

In truth the Empire could easily crushed the New Republic rise to power if they put aside their differences and actual pull their resources to defeat the New Republic. Pallaeon was the hero that the Galactic Empire desperately needed to survive, and without him the New Republic would have crushed all resistance against it.

The amount of plot armor towards the Rebels and New Republic, even in the old EU, often makes me furious. This was a perfectly placed and executed trap where the Lusankya should have been destroyed in this battle. The loss of this ship wouldn't have been a huge blow to the very much superior military of the New Republic and would have been an important wake up call for them to get their tactics straight.
