      No shade to the devs for offering that small map in the game's benchmark mode, it just doesn't push the hardware hard enough to see what setups can really do.
      Cool to see the game's community and the PC testing community put together the massive map method for benchmarking, and that it's consistent.

    • @Frozoken
      @Frozoken 10 месяцев назад

      It literally is similar price. It's launching at 13th gen's msrp which is more but this is no Zen 4. Street prices on 13th gen are only like 10% less than their launch. Either way basically a nothing burger besides the addition of the digital linear voltage regulator which power benefits are very skewed to benefiting lower current draws which is why the 14600k uses about 15% LESS power than the 13600k at full load despite a +200mhz P all core frequency. Genuinely impressed there seeing when ocing my 13600k to +400mhz on the pcores It needed ~40% more power even when setting the voltage as low as it is stable at. That being said on the 14900k u only get that bump with an additional ~5% power which at 5.7ghz all core is more efficient than an ocd 13900k (if it can even reach that frequency) but regardless it's much more underwhelming. Either way in something like blender the 14600k with effectively 8 cores (when adjusting 4 ecores into 1) only losing to the 7900x by ~20% while consuming ~15% less power on a 7nm node vs a 5nm node is very impressive and I did not expect perf/watt to be that much better on the new i5.

    As i understand, you can check your motherboard settings to see what power delivery mode is in, and gotta be careful as "default" is now the highest power setting, not Intels 253 Watt max. But yeah, you don't need to let the CPU roast at 350-400 watts under heavy MT loads, it seems to perform near the same. If i were getting a 14th gen, I'd try to take advantage the power savings and keep the same performance as 13th gen.

    I thought Intel was thinking of dumping the ecores... The 7800X3D and other CPU's stomps the 14900K in some of these tittles like Cyberpunk 2.0 / Phantom Liberty. 7950X, 5950X and other high core count AMD parts still stomp 14900k in titles favoring core count (real cores not e cores) the 7900X even stomps it in some titles. More pcores still better in supported titles.
    If ur 3D vtubing using an Unreal Engine Environment environment Intel will just dump your tracking software, unreal engine and OBS to the ecores completely borking your stream the moment you launch a game and even if you disable the ecores then you only have 8 pcores to work with at the high end which is problematic for 3D vtubing with the latest titles. VRChat tubers not really affected because its all done in the same application but VRC in full or open worlds does also like more pcores because it can get extremely resource heavy at that point. Similar problem with the hybrid X3D CPU's and core parking or die to die latency and weirdness with core parking disabled. If I was forced to choose an 8 core CPU for the aforementioned task I would choose a single die X3D part that wont have any gains in production but will offset less cores a bit in titles that prefer X3D parts or a 7700X for non X3D part because it draws less power, cost less and still competes. Basically the 7950X, 7900X, 7700X and 5950X is still the overall king for complex production environments at an affordable price. Not to mention AMD is the king of Blender and Adobe Premier which people in any kind of production environment are likely to use.

    • @danieloberhofer9035
      @danieloberhofer9035 10 месяцев назад +1

      Of course there is a massive uplift to be had upgrading from your 9900K to these, but there has been for quite some time now.
      Your 9900K comes from a time when Intel was mostly stagnant gen over gen, with Rocket Lake (11xxx) marking an all time low.
      Then came Alder Lake (12xxx) and that brought a noticeable uplift over anything prior.
      However, not to rain on Wendell's parade, but 12th to the so called 14th gen is pretty underwhelming again. Outside of the e-core increases to the whole stack in 13th and now only to the i7 in 14th gen, it's more of the same.
      In the end, if you really needed it, you could've had an upgrade with 12th gen already when sticking with Intel, or Zen2 and especially Zen3 even sooner when going AMD. These days, I'd definitely not upgrade to 14th gen Intel, because outside of some very specific usecases there's a better offering from AMD across the board, and unlike LGA1700, which is now effectively dead and gone, AM5 has a clear upgrade path to Zen5 and possibly Zen6.
      If for some reason you want to or even have to stick with Intel, I'd strongly advise to wait another year for Arrow Lake, if you can. That'll probably be a very decent uplift over 14th gen and being on a new platform have an upgrade path, too.

The use of the 7800X3D seems almost subliminal because it's around half the price and uses half the power, in games of course, and seemingly keeps up. I'd also say that 95% of computer users don't need anything more than what AM4 offers and the 5000 series is very power efficient too. It seems to be AMD's version of printing money with inexpensive N7. Talking up the A770 and kind of whitewashing Intel's ARC history seemed weird. Intel's driver team should be up for massive bonuses as they are keeping things alive.

      Bigger number, not bigger performance, but bigger power consumption.

      there is some improvement 7% to 12% in productivity workloads and rendering stuff but over all it's mostly 4% bump with a overclock

      More clock speed and more cores for the same price. Not sure why there's so much hate on the 14700k. Doesn't make sense to me.

      @@MrHav1k same launch price yes. But not current price. But if you aren't doing production tasks, it primarily falls within error of difference between samples of the 13700k. If the 14700k is interesting for anyone, they should spend the same amount on a 13900k instead and actually have a performance difference, even if still relatively small.

    you are paying this cpu every year in watts consumed compared to amd alternative. solid pass

    I'd buy a 14900, then run it at 13900 speeds, and you'll have no problems.
    I already bought a 7950x so... it's not as as fast, but I went for a few more processor upgrades future proofing. Maybe.
    It's all a crrp shoot.

    When 12th Gen came out i had the money to do it, and instead i went to an i7-8700K (from an i7 -4790 - which was still good for my workload) instead, why? The insane power and thermals....and i cant see me leaving 8th Gen for the time to come. They need to reign in the power and thermals....its unsustainable and downright stupid....at least theyre not alone AMD is batshit crazy making 90c CPUs "normal"

      At least with AMD it a a ‘pick your poison’ approach. Run it at limited power and you’re getting great thermals, and 90% of full TDP performance. Limit intel, and you’re crippling it.

      There is a very simple fix on AMD. Just activate the 95W eco-mode or even lower if you want.

      Similar, running a 4790k and still seems to do the job. Was going to upgrade to a 7950x but wasn't quite right and felt I may as well hold off for another year. Hopefully the next line of AMD CPUs are a bit better.
