Paradise Lost | Why Men Fear Beauty & Women Want Guys Who Respect Themselves

- Paradise Lost is not just the story about the beginning of humanity, it's the story of happiness and misery, heaven and hell, played out in each and every one of us. As a great poet, John Milton makes us see ourselves in the prototypical human beings-Adam and Even-as well as in the supernatural embodiment of evil, Satan himself. But Milton was more than a poet. He was a master psychologist who plumbed the depths of the human mind, and he remains (in my opinion) unsurpassed in his literary and poetic examination of the relationship between the sexes, including how women affect the way men think and vice versa. The epistemological implications are startling. But more important are the implications for our own relationships since, in the end, so much of our lives are bound up in our sexual relationships.
Milton was ever the romantic, though. He changes the story of Adam's eating the fruit. In Genesis, when confronted, Adam narcs on Eve. "She gave it to me and I did eat." In Milton's retelling, Adam, having taken seriously the injunction that to eat the fruit meant "you will surely die," takes and eats because he wants to share Eve's fate, not live on without her.
Well, I totally agree that men should be the head, and that they should be respected. However, I think that also is not very useful to go about saying, "I am the man, listen to me". No, I believe, one must be so capable, so resourceful, so respectable and so admirable that the woman would want herself to listen - out of trust and admiration.
Yes indeed. You’ve just described what a true alpha is, a man’s man.
@@abrahemsamander3967 that doesn't even sound like a Alpha male at all bro. She describes everything he needs to do while offering nothing back ... Sounds like she wants a Oofy Doofy man who dumb enough to fall for that narrative .
That's cap. Some women are naturally quarrelsome. Not all women are respectable
@@eduardotorres7111and plenty of women prefer a weak man because they're easily controlled (aren't a threat) but those are insecure, weak, and/or traumatized women, i.e., not desirable just as weak or broken men aren't desirable.
"Self evaluation, knowing ourselves and grounding ourselves in truth."
Self esteem, self respect, confidence.
Paradisal man.

This is very late for the release of the video but I must add that a very interesting paradox in Adam's reason within Paradise Lost comes in the fleeting moment when he and Eve part in the Garden in Book 9. Although there are many caveats, Satan's appearance in Eden being one of them, Adam lets Eve go primarily out of love - even though he has the premonition that they shouldn't part (strangely Milton gives the assumption that they have been holding hands since the beginning of the epic). Could this be the triumph of passion over reason? Is Adam really in the perfect balance of self respect and the infatuation with Eve?
Now I finally understood why I felt anxious looking at beautiful women in the eyes and now I know what to do, thank you so much for making this video. You're a life saver!
How are there so little viewers? Your videos are great - meaningful but approachable
I saw some of your videos and the content is amazing.
I was thinking some of these subjects and since I found your channel i realised that you've made spot on videos on them.
Very nice work, keep it up!
This channel is a gift to the humanity.
Thank you for looking at this masterpiece from a much wider perspective than simply saying that "Here is another case where a male author blames a female character for everything." just like our (female) teacher did in our literature class today. Feminism (whatever people take it to be) really makes it impossible to appreciate and interpret these magnificent works of art.
Eep
Eh. That implies that we should only look at the art from the perspective of the artist, which may be patriarchal and demean women, and not question the bias of the artist. After all, the artist is not infallible and their perspective not universal or absolutely true. The purpose of feminism in literary critique is to look at the work from a perspective other than that of the male author. Milton being a man does not and cannot fully and accurately portray a woman, only how he or other men view them. While it may be a lazy or overdone critique to say that the story is simply blaming women, I can definitely understand the perspective of your teacher as a potential long time feminist simply tired of seeing so much of that stereotype being used in literature and thus reacting to it as such. I understand why it is important to experience the art as the artist intended it, but it is also important to look at the art and artist from an outside perspective. You can't just live accepting the reality presented to you and not question why it was presented to you the way it was.
@@nowhereman6019 How can someone manage to write so much bullshit in such a self important and smug way? It doesn't seem that at least one sentence of your cliche SJW welping is an original thought.
@@nowhereman6019 But do you not also believe that the most important thing to do when looking at a piece of art is to appreciate its beauty and what ethics, moral, etc. that it can teach us? Surely bias and the demeaning of women is not to be overlooked, but is the only appropriate critique to give to a masterpiec negative critique?
What an amazing video, thank you for this!
Died in your love.your videos short and crispy.Make more and more
Excellent work
So brilliant
What about money or a gun? Yes, pimp'in is a booming business.
Having stumbled across your later work, I now find myself going back to the beginning. In this first essay I’ve lost the difference between your voice and those of Milton/Raphael/etc. There are hints of patriarchy that possibly concern me... we will see where later video essays take me :-)
(It is troubling that the monetized advert to this video is some type of “how to win women” drivel)
Having started with your most recent videos and now listening to this, your voice quality and ESPECIALLY cadence have improved from good to fantastic (not to belittle the content in any way).
I look forward to binging the remainder of your work. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and wonderful voice :-)
Unfortunately I am not in control of the adverts on the videos.... I would control it if I could: I don’t like those either. I appreciate you feedback on my voice quality. Thanks for listening to my thoughts!
@@EmpireoftheMind Plz include more patriarchy!
