This version of the Ev6 is the GT-Line, Earth being €5,000 cheaper here in Ireland but make no mistake, even the 'lesser' trim is well specced. Rear wheel drive, single motored for Ireland, the only difference in output between the two is trim. Car in the video is €55,000.

**Update from KIA**. Full GT version is actually now coming to Ireland towards the end of 2022 and the charging issue was a charge control module that needed to be reset and seems to have solved the problem.

A few things that might be of interest: In the UK the key fob has a couple of extra buttons on it. On our test drive I did not pay them any attention, but the EV6 has a "Summon" mode! It will start the car, and move forward or back for as long as you press the button. Good for when you can't get the door fully open, or if you have a 'single' garage, as this IS a wide car. I imagine that would still be on Irish models. Also, there are 2 small 'winglets' on either side of the rear spoiler. These have lights that shine down to illuminate the rear wheels so you can still see the kerb in the all-round cameras. We have an enthusiastic salesman at our local dealer, (who pointed those little gems out :-), and they DO like EVs, unlike some!
And yes, we have a GT line on order, to the same spec as the demo-cars. Delivery in the UK :- the guy from KIA who ran the "Big Reveal" at the local open day thinks around March 2022. If you order a standard spec and colour, I am guessing they have some 'set aside' for delivery. If you are fussy about what you want, I would expect longer.

Great review of a brilliant car. Anybody who says paying €50k for a Kia is crazy needs to have a go of this and compare it to an id4. This really is Kia reinventing itself and they’ve done a great job 👍🏻

    • @mad4tar77
      @mad4tar77 7 месяцев назад +1

😂😂😂 oh dear, please do explain to us which part of an id4 is better than an EV6.
      I'll help you,
      Ev6 has a 7 year warranty.
Ev6 has 800v architecture with 250kw charging speed, double that of id4
Ev6 has heat pump as standard
Ev6 has vehicle to load as standard
Ev6 has heated electric memory seats with electric memory seats as standard
Ev6 has hydraulic suspension bushes and has better ride quality than an id4
Ev6 has better real world range, especially when cold outside
Ev6 has a higher quality interior
Ev6 has more power than id4, 230hp as standard
Ev6 does not have slow laggy software like id cars
Ev6 does not have capacitive buttons like the id4 does. Vw themselves have admitted the problems with their capacitive buttons
Ev6 has much better trade in value than id cars. Best of luck to anyone trying to trade in a 3 year old out of warranty vw id. If Vw isn't willing to stand over their product for 7 years, why on earth would anyone be so foolish to hand over their money for it 😂
I could go on and on with the comparisons of an ev6 versus an id4.
Critical to point out that being better than id4 does not equate to perfection. It is purely a measure of how poor a product id cars are.

I have had my GT Line since Nov 8 as one first owners in Sweden. I’m quite impressed with the car as such, but range is limited when you drive it on highway and the cost of public charging is similar to driving a Diesel of similar size. First week of driving 22 kWh/100km with 20” summer tires, next week on 19” nordic spec winter tires. Preheating works fine without being connected in my car, not as described in video. I will use for daily commuting 2 x 140 km with charging from home. Given today’s diesel cost and tax, as compared to home charging is a good saving, and more importantly in my case the car is fun to drive.

Please could you give an update on the consumption in winter with negative temperatures and the characteristics of your winter tyres?
And by the way, can you tell if you have laminated windows on front AND rear windows, or only front windows?

You should look at the ioniq 5 reviews on the "Lemon-tea Leaf" YT channel. (Same system?)
He tested his car using an OBD port scanner on a journey.
I noticed some very interesting readings which may explain your observations.
The 4 pack modules appear to be paired 1+3/2+4.
Faster charging commences at 20°c, but when the 2+4 pair was at 24-25°, 1+3 was only at about 15°, so no fast charge.
Likewise, when 1+3 hit 35°, 2+4 was at 45° which throttled the charge.
Also, odd readings from the heater and pack inlet temperatures.
Result was a very narrow "hyper" charge window (essentially 15° spread instead of 25°?)
Almost as though it had an airlock, or the system logic is "off"?
I suspect this is why you couldn't pre heat? (If the 2+4 was at 21°?)
"Norwegian testers" (you know who) have also noticed power reduction entering a motorway after a fast charge, probably caused by a similar issue, one pair overheating under max acceleration (?).

Enjoyed your review of the KIA EV 6 and after watching it , after reviewing ALL the electric vehicles on the market currently in the USA , I am now 100% sold on the EV 6 GT . The car has the features I want on my next car. I had a 2017 Cadillac CT6 Plug-in Hybrid with all the toys. After four years and the last month of the four year bumper to bumper warranty I happened to be at the dealership for some minor under warranty repairs when the Manager approached and offered to buy the car back . The cash offer was $33,000 USD. Low millage of 27,000 miles so I took his money. Now just reviewing all the electric cars and your review put the KIA EV6 over the top. Thank You .

You picked a good time for the dealer desperate for good 2nd hand cars and the plugin makes the higher fuel costs just that bit cheaper for the next buyer. Can you avail of the higher EV grants (assuming they happen!). I heard that the more expensive EVs in the US will gain more from the higher grant so a GT should be interesing. It won't handle like a CT6 but then again the plugin was never going to be the best handling CT6 sold. The Mustang_E looks worth a look stateside and the Telsa does gain from the supercharger network.

A brilliant, fair and objective review of the EV6.
I picked up my EV6 Air at the a couple weeks ago as I was in search for a practical family EV. I didn't know until watching this that Kia had trademarked "Air, Earth, Water and Light" to reflect some of the different trims outside of the GT line. I went with the Air in the end because the extra £3k (UK) for a few comfortable extras and slightly sportier exterior made it hard to justify. The thing that really made it a really difficult decision was not having the Vehicle to load option which I loved the idea of, but in the end, would probably never use. After 2 weeks of driving the Air, I feel really comfortable with the decision.
The core parts of the EV6 are the same in terms of drive and handling. I pretty much only do motorway drives which was one of the key reasons I went with the EV6. I do fortnightly 280mile drive between London and Cornwall and have been driving a Hyundai Ionic electric which has been great, but range and charging speeds added another 75 min to the already 5 hour driving time.
For those considering the cheaper trim outside of the GT Line, here are my top 10 reflections (good and not as good) that stand out for me about the KiaEV6 Air:
    1. Pick metallic black if you don't like the body trim - the body trim around the wheels and elsewhere blend in more and looks as sporty as the GT Line.
    2. If you are over 6ft, having the sunroof meant that your head whilst driving was practically touching the roof (the test drive was only available with the GT line which put me off totally, but in the end - took a chance on the air).
    3. The Air doesn't come with privacy glass in the back which means that the rear seats are not as dark for passengers.
    4. The air does not have electric and memory seats which means that there is space under the seats for the rear passengers to put their feet which was another annoyance for me when doing the test drive.
    5. The 19 inch wheels in my view provides a more comfortable ride than the 20 inch.
    6. The Air does not have electric boot which was disappointing for me initially (for such a expensive car), but the hydraulics in the boot at the handle makes it super easy to open and close even with my partner who is 5ft4.
    7. There is no wireless charging which was another thing I was disappointed about, but its not something that I am really missing. I may buy a wireless charging mat on amazon for less than £30 if I get desperate
    8. There is no Apple Airplay wireless which is also disappointing considering it comes as standard for the Skoda Enyaq.
    9. I can't start the car with the Kia Connect app which was something that was actually really handy that could be done with the cheaper Hyundai Ionic.
    10. The standard lane and steering assist is excellent. I was driving through the heavy rain, winds and darkness on the way to Cornwall doing the speed limit of 70miles and it felt super safe with the support of this function.
Oh and a bonus one - I loved that I could change the sound of the car during the test drive of the GT Line and thought that this was standard across the lines. I don't think it is standard and as I haven't been able to do this in the Air which is disappointing, but admittedly - a bit gimmicky and a non essential :)
Overall - after 2 weeks, I really love the EV6 and have spent the last 6 months looking at every new electric car on the market or coming and felt it was the perfect one for me.
P.s Nobby is right - the new EV6 does get a lot of attention which is not something that I personally enjoy and makes me a little nervous leaving the car. Im sure it will change one the shine goes a little and more of these start appearing on the road.

Good review, nobby as well as Gary. I ordered my GT-line premium in the Moonscape silver color and can‘t wait for delivery (q1/2022). I have now been driving an e-Golf for over four years and my reasons for change are similar to those of Gary. Don‘t mind the battery size but the charging speed is terrible. The EV6 is, in my opinion, currently the best EV below the 100k EUR mark, not perfect but great. I also wish they had a lighter interior option for the GT-line. It is very dark inside.

Gary love your report on the EV6. I have one question in that how do you find the headlights at night time. Have you standard LED or is it Matrix LED. Are dipped beams very short on the passenger side or do you find them good. @@Iceberg1313 that’s a great question and one that I forgot about. The Air model has LED headlights whilst the rest of the range have dual LED headlights. It’s not something that I had even thought about during the purchase, but I have to admit that I did find the normal beam to be a bit poor and disappointing. There is auto high beam which is my first experience of this function and works ok. Automakers are still charging too much $$ and including too many gimmicks (who needs auto pilot?). However, Kia has made one of the closest to practical EVs I've seen yet with this. 350kw on board DC charger finally makes it practical to replace ICE cars. I'm certainly in the market for one this year. Thanks for a thorough review.

    • @GudieveNing
      @GudieveNing Год назад

Autopilot is not a gimmick. Can save your life, and in day to day driving, long distance in particular, it reduces fatigue by 50% or more. I know I had the Nissan ProPilot on my 2018 Leaf and it was a life saver. More revert equivalents from Tesla, KIA, Nissan etc are even better.

    • @BTin416
      @BTin416 Год назад +1

@@GudieveNing We're all entitled to an opinion. I think these features are highly optional, not necessary, and we should have the option to "opt out" and not pay for the services and functions that other people may want. Nothing beats a well trained driver who knows to take a break after 4 hours of driving instead of pushing themselves too hard in unsafe ways. These tools do not help that problem. BTW, I don't think its possible for technology to reduce your personal fatigue. If you got only 5 hours sleep last night and you have a long drive ahead of you, the technology doesn't have the ability to give you more stamina, response time, and more rest. Again, the technology isn't a solution. These gimmicks may allow bad drivers to stay on the road longer, which is not a recipe for success. Nothing beats a well trained driver that actually adheres to rules, gets rest, and stops every several hours on a long trip for a break to recharge, and one that plans for said trip to allow for the breaks. Driving is only safe when we humans make better choices, the technology doesn't change that.

That requires the car to be plugged in as a safety precaution to prevent you from forgetting it on while on holiday and draining your battery unintentionally. The manual version - where you use the mobile app to command the car to start preheating / preconditioning now doesn't require the car to be plugged in.

I am fairly sure you can pre-heat it without the cable plugged in (manually, using the app). But you can't pre-heat on a schedule without the cable (to stop the battery being used up). You can send the "start climate" command from the app when unplugged. it works like that in the e-niro at least. The only problem is you need to remember to send the command :)

I've got an Ioniq 5 for about 10 days now (ordered in May, before the EV6 was announced). Initially, I had some buyer's remorse, because of the bigger battery. But yesterday an EV6 pulled up right next to my I5, and seeing them next to each other I really prefer the look of the Hyundai. It also has more cargo space, especially when you move the rear seats forward. And according to Björn Nyland he found the extra usable battery capacity is more like 2 kWh, not 5. I also prefer the more open/roomy/airy interior of the I5.
In the end, great that we have more choices and you can't really go wrong with either.

If you think the VW golf is an iconic design then the Ionic is what ID3 should have looked like and I think the EV6 does look like every other family hatchback (Ford Focus/Astra/Corolla) even if the rear is a bit more daring. The inside is not unlike the current Golf (but with headup) and the new techee Merc interior (without the leather)

Good review Nobby. I've been driving an eNiro for nearing two years and the EV6 seems like a sensible upgrade path. I test drove one for about 30 min and it felt super heavy and sluggish in ECO mode compared to the eNiro. The efficiency of the EV6 also doesn't seem to come close to the eNiro. I love how the EV6 looks, but I think the eNiro might still be a better electric car. I charge overnight at home at 7kwh, so super fast charging is not a big requirement. The main problem I have like many people, is I live in a terraced house ( North-East England) with no driveway, just on-street parking. I am sure I read that if you are using a domestic charging box to charge your EV you cannot have the wires going across pavements, so owning an EV is a no-go. Just a quick question, in your week with the EV how often were you charging it? and was thus to 100%? Thanks again,

Once a week would be what I'd need I'd imagine. All driving around Dublin with the odd motorway blast that bypasses the city. You could have a car with this much range and probably survive just using public charging to be honest - it would depend on your mileage though. I charged to 100% just as I was dropping the car back to Kia speeding up the charging process for the next person to take the car but some say you should only go to 80% regularly.

The only way you'll see close to the maximum quoted range in an EV is in summer time and if you've been very good with the throttle and by that I mean, not using the torque for fun at all and certainly no motorways.

Why do manufacturers store the cables under the boot floor and promote it as a good thing?
Logic dictates that for the majority, those cables would be needed on a longer trip, when for many, there would be a car full of passengers and luggage(?)
I know that if I owned a car from "a certain other brand" with huge pockets behind the rear wheels, I'd be fabricating some kind of container/ bag, and that's where the cables would live! (At least on one side, with cleaning gear on the other)

Probably not but without a doubt tha Audi will be worth in excess of 10k more after 3 years on the used car market....If I had my time back I would probably buy the new Mustang E-mach in base model spec...at 48k after grant it is without doubt the best value Premium Crossover EV on the market....I drove it last week and its a joy with some minor inperfections....Unfortunately its a 7/8 month waiting list to get the base model...Any plans to review the E-Mach soon nobby ??

The seat automatically slides back to the optimum position for getting out when you open the door, enabling you to just swing your legs out.
It's a lot higher than my current road car, and the ride quality is really well judged. On 19" wheels,I drove it over very bumpy roads and I was very pleased with how good the ride quality is, the damping is very well judged, it never transmitted impacts through to my spine, yet it was also good fun to drive on a nice quiet twisty country road.

Is the GT Line dual motor AWD? If not, can you get the GT Line with AWD?
Nvm I found the answer. Yes it does come in an AWD variant. Also ups horse power to 320! 😀

Keep reading conflicting reports - can the EV6 take a roof rack? Obviously no roof rails, but have seen some pictures of roof rack clamps going into top of the doors, a bit like the Polestar 2.
Did you notice any roof rack hard points on the roof underneath the door seals?

Kia figures quoted 77.4, never seen a spec sheet quote useable before so that’s where the confusion came from

Here in Canada and USA, Both Ioniq 5 and EV6 have the same biggest long range 77,4 battery net kWh since day 1

I find the EV6 quite interesting. Nice solutions and technology, but in my experience, it hes a lot, but all of it is not quite there yet. THe interior is nice, but not great, it charges fast, but no where near as advertised, auto cruise, adaptive lights, infotainment are there, but not up to the level of some competitors.
Main downside is: why another semi SUV? In my country nobody will buy one, we will lease it as a company car. For a 62000€ car (full option GT-line) they are cheap to lease. In my tests I do compare them to a Polestar 2 and BMW i4. BTW: in my budget compared to the Polestar 2 and i4 with some options the GT is in budget, but range suffers to much.

Still can't buy one, not in Phoenix anyway. The dealers in Phoenix who have one, put 15 large on top of full MSRP. One day these things will likely really be for sale, certainly not yet though.
