  • For Episode 14 in my series of repair videos for the 2008-2016 Audi A4 (b8) I tackle the replacement of the rear brake discs and brake pads.
The rear brakes require the electronic handbrake to be wound in and I show you how I did this with my Topdon Phoenix lite OBD scan tool on one side and I show you how to do it with a battery and some wire on the other side.
I called in my less good looking friend to help on the job.
Obviously the process is sped up to fit the 10 minute video. If doing this job then leave yourself around 2 hours to complete it and have brake parts cleaner and copper grease available for reassembly.
Hope you find this video useful, remember to check out the other videos in the series and dont forget to like and subscribe for the latest episodes when they are published.
    Take care,
    Dave.
    Disclaimer.
This video shows how I did the job, you may chose to do it differently. It is your responsibility to keep yourself safe if you choose to tackle this job. If you dont think you can safely complete the job then please contact a professional.
I cannot be held responsible for any damage you cause to yourself, your car or anybody else.
Some sequences are sped up or shortened for the video. Ensure all bolts are correctly fastened.

Sorry mate, I only fix the bits that break and only what I can do on my drive. I'm not a trained mechanic so unless I have had the issue on my own car I am afraid I cannot help. Hope you get it sorted.

Once youve wound back the piston with the 12v battery. How do you wind it back out? Cheers

You can either swap the polarity and wind the handbrake back on or when finished, cycle the handbrake a few times and the car will relearn the handbrake position.

Cant you just hold down the parkbreake button?

I have not heard of that working. I think that only releases the handbrake but you need the motors fully wound in. If it works for you let me know.
