Vaush bashing Lex Fridman for being civil during discussions on hot button subjects is about all you need to know about Vaush’s mindset when it comes to discourse.

Vaush has done more to neuter that word than any online, crypto, far-right racist, fascist could ever hope for. He's the most inept consequentialist of all time
Its strange to hear Vaush says he thinks that the wildly out of control debate panel with Alex Jones was better than the civil discourse with Ben Shapiro. To me, the most productive form of debate is when you can very clearly and calmly lay out the points of each side and see how they fare against each other. Screaming at the other side and condemning them as morally bankrupt seems unproductive and the actions of someone who only cares about virtue signaling their position.
I think there’s definitely a place for a good chaotic debate, but to me the Ben debates so good cause everyone thought it wasn’t gonna happen and it shows how much Destiny’s grown.

I love how they rate destiny on how good his debate was based on whether he disagreed more with his opponent rather than which ideas are backed more by facts
If they agree on Israel on the Gaza war, the facts they bring to the debate won’t present the other side, correct? If they agree on abortion, guns, Israel etc, same thing. It makes for a fairly pointless discussion, at least for the topics of agreement, because it’s just a circle jerk without the opposing views.
@jasonestrem4760 the quality of the debate/your debate skills isn't based on whether you disagree with your opponent more, though. Like you couldnt say destiny did worse because him and Shapiro agreed the sky was blue and water is wet. You're not going to disagree on everything with your opponent unless you're both extremists on opposite ends
@jasonestrem4760 the nature of a debate is that there will be times both parties will agree or mostly agree on something. There is something wrong with a person if they ALWAYS disagree with Ben or ALWAYS disagree with Destiny.
They just want Bloodsport debating and differences of opinions obvious they could be seen from space. The Shapiro debate was so much better because of the fact that Shapiro was closer to reality than others.
Remarkable at 22:11 Vaush actually shows a modicum of accountability. The whole time he was pretending to have no idea why Ana Kasparian was angry with him. Destiny is a little guilty of this too, y’all are just too rude to a lot of normies / mainstream folks, this isn’t a call of duty lobby
He went hard on Anna, and yeah im not gonna defend the bits that were sexist, but im not gonna pretend she didn't insufferably try and play the same game by trying to demonstrate Vaush was transphobic by throwing out a clip-chimp of him and then saying he snorts Adderall when he actually does have ADHD. Anna and Cenk are way too hot headed for the space they operate in, it's what makes them so easy to fuck with, but it also makes them difficult to have any lasting positive professional relationship either.
okay i understand the criticism that vaush doesn't do enough research but this is stupid. is he supposed to cite his sources about his opinion on youtube debates?? he gave an answer off the top of his head to a question kyle asked him, he doesn't have to substantiate that with stats lmao
Destiny is waayyyy more based than any leftist that is afraid of going outside their buble / doing debates. You have my respect for being willing to engage with people way outside your lane such as Alex Jones, Ben Shappiro, and Jubilee 😂
Vaush never admits to watching anything Destiny does. It always “I saw part of it” or “I heard a little about it” I don’t buy it. He’s watching it all.
It us more sinister than that. They watch the whole debate but use the excuse of only seeing a part of it or heard a little about it to make deliberate strawman arguments for their opponents. When called out on these, Vaush can say they did not see the whole context and when no one calls them out Vaush gets to push his agenda. It is for creating plausible deniability. This has been a pattern for years and Vaush literally admitted to this in previous debates with Destiny and Perspective Philosophy.
The fact that they think the Alex Jones debate was better than the Shapiro one just shows that they don't actually judge the quality of the conversations, they just want those who align with their politics more to be more abrasive towards the opposition. Its not about reaching the truth, its about how it makes you feel moral victory-wise to them.
Which is odd, because ideally if you bring intelligent truth seekers together, even if they come from completely different backgrounds, they should reach more and more points of agreement as they both come closer and closer to reality. The "debate skillz" should mainly be treated as tools to articulate your points to further dive into the specifics of your argument so that the other party can see where you're coming from, and the conversation can then continue from any new points that are brought up. Just asking 'your guy' to disagree on everything, and not concede on ANY valid points, means you just want the image of intellectual superiority and the victory, while also asking them to be the better liar.
@@testcase6997 Sure it is, the guy said he preferred the Alex Jones debate despite it not having any of the qualities he said he liked to see in debate. Destiny challenged Ben quite a lot. To say that the Alex Jones debate is where Steven preformed better is wild. I don't believe that Kyle actually watched either debate. "Watched" must translate to 'saw a few clips and some people told him what happened.'
He said it was better because destiny disagreed more. I’d rather watch 2 ppl who agree on some issues find why they differ on others, than watch a screaming match where ppl just talk past one another. The amount of disagreement in a debate shouldn’t decide if it as good or not, but I guess it does to Kyle and vaush.
The only metric they’re measuring for how well Destiny did in either debate is how much he disagreed with the other person. Disagreed with Jones on every point and even at one point called him out as directly responsible for death and violence, but most of the time couldn’t finish a sentence because Jones was shitposting too hard irl: good debate performance, wow! Got to make good arguments and explore nuances in the topics because him and Shapiro are informed on the topics, but they also agreed on some things like supporting Israel: booo, very weak performance!
@@Yrgzip0 The issue Kyle and Vaush have is that Destiny gave a ton of space and ground to Ben when they would have pushed back more on principle alone. So as a recovering addict (6 years clean in april) and an addiction specialist for an addiction center i can say conclusively without a doubt it is NEVER a good idea to use drugs to cope with internal issues. Doesnt matter if its weed or pills or booze.... if you're using drugs to hide from/cope with some underlying issue you are eventually going to get burned by it. You need to actually resolve these issues through therapy/counciling or even talking it out with friends or family if you have close enough relationships. If all you do is mask it with drugs, there is gonna come a time where you dont have drugs and all those things you ran from will come to the surface all at once. It makes it IMMENSELY harder to actually deal with or resolve those issues. You absolutely 100% can be addicted to weed. You even go through withdrawal when you use it all the time then stop cold turkey. You struggle to get to sleep for a few days when you quit for example
When I heard Vaush talking about that, I was genuinely confused as I thought I had misheard him or something. I can say, with plenty of experience, that using drugs to cope with shit is the absolute worst way you can interact with drugs.
This is inarguably true. I would honestly go as far as to say all drug use is a cope (and i say this as someone who both drinks and smokes weed). It’s always either a way to escape an emotion, a way to escape boredom, or conformity due to low self-confidence. All of those are issues that can be resolved through the means you mentioned
You're making too much of a blanket statement, which is completely understandable as a recovering addict so I mean no offense. But if it is NEVER a good idea to use drugs to deal with internal issues then the whole field of medicated psychiatry and pain management is bunk - which it could be, sure, but you've got a lot of studies and scientific data showing otherwise.
@@Guerillatoker Firstly, he is very very clearly talking about illicit substances. Secondly, outside of neurological disorders, evidence for the efficacy for things like SSRIs is fucking weak as hell, and the long-term results suck dogshit if therapeutic interventions are not pursued. Guys, I have a hot take. Be prepared. "i only think X thing is bad if there are obvious consequences" Thanks guys. This was a real weight off my chest.
Vaush take on weed is so true. I know people who have became lazy bitches on weed. They are functional but definitely lazy, less productive and more procrastinating. Cant go a day with out smoking. And then there are people who smoke once in a while and are not like that. It all depends.
Weed smokers cope way too hard about their drug use. Weed is still a drug. It may not be as dangerous as heroin, but it's still not good for you. At least most heroin addicts will eventually acknowledge their drug addiction is negatively affectingly their life. Weed smokers will have an emotional breakdown if they can't wake up at 3 am to hit a bong and see no problem with it.
This is a very simplistic perspective on marijuana use. “At least most heroin addicts will eventually admit their drug addiction is negatively impacting their life.” What people with your position generally fail to acknowledge is that for many marijuana users the benefits outweigh the negatives. My dad was a terrible alcoholic for decades and was barely able to eat because of stomach issues so he was skin and bones. For the last few years he’s smoked weed he’s gained weight, gained muscle, and been happier all around. Should he “admit how it’s negatively impacting him” or tell people about how much it’s helped him? Yes, it’s still a drug, but the problem with saying it’s just “a drug” is that it doesn’t accurately portray the situation.
@JudasMaccabeus1 I was a drug addict and for years before that I was a pot smoker. Even ignoring all the negative mental and physical effects that come with smoking weed, smoking instead of addressing your drug addiction, physical health, or mental health problems is bad, and this should be obvious. But the biggest problem I have is the pot users who make it out to be a miracle cure-all that has no addictive properties or negative impacts on their health. Pot smokers will claim they're not addicted and then have mental breakdowns or shake all night with insomnia if they can't smoke for an hour while spending a huge chunk of their paycheck on it. Dont get me started on people who claim they're better drivers while high or smoke their entire pregnancies. Everyone I did opiates with also thought the benefits outweighed the risks initially. It helped their physical and emotional pain, it helped them feel more comfortable socially, and so on. But eventually, usually through social pressure, financial collapse, medical problems, or legal issues, they realize the damage that has been done. Weed is so socially accepted now, too much so imo, people don't acknowledge anything bad about it. Weed for your dad is functioning as methadone or kratom does for heroin addicts. He should treat the underlying issues, but keeping him alive is better than nothing.
@JudasMaccabeus1 my comment is poofed on my end, and im not going write everything out again, but the problem is people being in denial and pretending weed has no negative effects or addiction potential while clearly suffering from negative effects and addiction. Your dad is basically using weed how addicts use meth*done or kr*tom. It's better than dying from alcoholism but being sober and actually treating your mental health and physical health is obviously better. Weed smokers delude themselves far more (e.g. smoking their entire pregnancy and saying it isn't bad for the baby or that driving under the influence is actually ok, etc) than addicts of other substances
@JudasMaccabeus1 *ugh* idk if my last 2 comments posted, but I think they're being nuked. My problem is smokers deluding themselves into thinking there are no negative effects and no addiction potential when it's clear they're suffering from the negative effects and addiction. What your dad is doing is better than drinking but fixing your mental and physical health is obviously better. Smokers delude themselves far more than other kinds of addicts
I agree with kullinski , I have no appetite for the US to be involved in another major war. However the hawkish people on both sides seem to. Destiny is quite hawkish on this subject and seems to support every action that will ultimately lead to a greater conflict which in turn results in many of our citizens going to fight and die. What is weird is destiny will defend Israel dropping bombs in order to persevere the lives of their troops on the ground but then support every action that result in our troops ending up on the ground. I think destiny believes he is being pro US by supporting every foreign policy action made. But I would say the pro American stance is trying to stay out of shit when we just got out of a forever long war and most citizens don’t have an appetite to be in another one.
One of the first things Vaush said was he can't stand Lex.... I dont know how someone could have directly negative feelings towards Lex unless they're a monster.
As Destiny said, to say it nicely would be that Lex is naive. Will never forget when he tweeted ”Life is beautiful” without context within a week of Russia invading Ukraine …
Its easy to not care for Lex, and see through that fake I love everyone demeanor of his. Knowing hes seething internally a lot. It almost always sounds like hes talking himself out of being a monster, rather than being earnest in how he feels. That aside. Lex is also cool when discussing anything non political I feel, although those people in those fields have their opinions of those episodes too. Fence sitters will always be, and have always been off putting to members of the tribe so to speak. Lex comes off as a fence sitter when clearly it feels he should intellectually understand the opposition at the very least. Plus nothing worse than a guy who will praise elon musk and people need to be nicer, while all of his joe rogan sphere friends around him are actually mean assholes, conspiracy nuts, anti intellectual morons, and bullies, but he wont publicly flog them ever.
According to Wikipedia: "Addiction is a neuropsychological disorder characterized by a persistent and intense urge to use a drug or engage in a behaviour that produces natural reward, despite substantial harm and other negative consequence." So yeah, he's right thay addiction is only bad when it has negative consequences, but that's implied in the definition lol
Idk. I think addiction in general is bad whether it's positive or negative effects. It kind of takes away your freedom of choice and manipulates you into thinking you have the choice to use or not
@@MrEd8846You need a disordered effects for it to be an addiction. If you have an organ transplant and have to take anti rejection meds for the rest of your life, you wouldn't qualify as an addict, but you would need to take a foreign substance for the rest of your life
@emmadivin8280 yeah but when you notice once you drink you have trouble stopping. Know you have trouble stopping. Then after a month of not drinking have the idea "yeah I dont have a problem. I can have 1" then are back to square 1. There's people with mental disorders that go through that thought. People who don't have diagnosable mental disorders go through it. And I see people who smoke pot have the same thinking even though it isn't physically addictive. You're talking about meds that aren't offering that high or low that people are seeking
I used to smoke almost every single day for years, but I've decided to take a big break. This year I've only done it once, and it was at a party where someone else offered it to me. Planning to stay off it for pretty much the rest of the year, just to see if I can and see what happens.

Vaush doesn't want to debate because he knows he would have to moderate some of his views to win one against a competent conservative. Maybe it is laziness.
Vaush and Kulinski regularly talk about things they know nothing about, and the marijuana addiction conversation epitomised that. The idea that you can be addicted to weed and it not affect you at all is false by definition. Any clinical addiction (typically diagnosed under a substance abuse disorder) *requires* some kind of impairment of function for it to be an "addiction". Something that you do a lot that doesn't hurt you is not addictive.

@angelantayhua3096, you know you can have a calm debate where you try to move the followers over instead of the leaders right
Its strange to hear Vaush says he thinks that the wildly out of control debate panel with Alex Jones was better than the civil discourse with Ben Shapiro.
The civil discourse is the problem. BS never gave ground on anything

I love how they rate destiny on how good his debate was based on whether he disagreed more with his opponent rather than which ideas are backed more by facts
Left and right extremists only judge a debate on how many "ownes" their person gets on the other side.

Lonerbox checked in and he was watching the debate 😂

What major war is the US going to be involved in?
One of the first things Vaush said was he can't stand Lex.... I dont know how someone could have directly negative feelings towards Lex unless they're a monster.

I'm 8 minutes in and I swear everytime I see vaush say anything he genuinely scares me. If anyone like him is in office then it explains a lot about politics today.
Lmao wut
he doesn't watch anything, he doesn't do research, he just says stuff and expects no one to call him out for it@@NapalmAssasian
Very true
@@SparkasmTVBeing reactive doesn’t mean you don’t expect anyone to call him out? He’s a political commentator; it’s his job to be entertaining not necessarily be informed. Why is this so hard for people to understand?
@@SparkasmTV what did he say in that was so beyond the pale in this segment that it's "scary" what do you want to call him out for?
First law of thermodynamics! Lol. Vaush doesn’t debate because he doesn’t know what he’s talking about.

What they call civility politics, the rest of us call having an adult conversation.
Oh interesting Vaush went to the same university I did and I still live in the area, the city next door. I would have to agree with him that some people are functioning weed addicts... as in they have to smoke multiple times a day. Smoke as if it's a cigarette. My question is, would it be ok if that was cigarettes or alcohol? I've gone into stores reeking of marijuana like they just lit up. If that guy smelled of alcohol we'd prob look down on him or get the police involved. Same with driving a car or being at work.
I'm for legalize AND regulate. We push for legalizing without thinking of how to regulate it in society. Calling people addicted to weed or that they stink/shouldn't do it in public and you're now a bad guy because your on the wrong side of the culture. Like calling someone obese is apparently wrong when it's factually true. Call things what they are.
Sometimes people are not in the position to say the truth.
Hot take: I don't think Destiny should debate random rappers like Ben Shapiro. I don't know what the number 1 charting rapper on Itunes is supposed to know about politics.
Ironic that Vaush claims Republicans are the ones basing everything on feelings, when he just got through misrepresenting anti-trans arguments as hate or "debating over whether they should be (unalived)". That's in addition to what you pointed out about Israel.
Anti trans arguments are hate. Integrating trans people responsibly isn’t hate.
He’s so annoyingly-obsessed with trans-related issues.
@@johnsykes3970 Gee I wonder why someone on the left would be so committed to protecting Trans rights, it's not like hundreds of bills are being passed all over the country to harm trans people...
Vaush actually has a decent weed take except most stoners are honest about the addiction to other stoners because other stoners wont go on the addiction rant everyone (Vaush) goes on.
We're also honest with other stoners cause they are in the same boat and won't do anything about it, making being honest easy.
Weed addiction is a thing, coming from someone that smoked huge amounts every hour awake daily for years, literally had insomnia if i didn't smoke weed for just a day. And insomnia is insanely uncomfortable, it was literally used as a torture method. And it's not insomnia for a few days or a week it's insomnia for 1-2 months before you become "normal" i literally had to use another drug to help me sleep until the weed insomnia was gone.
Wow a Ludwig orbiter thinking Destiny is alt right, I am 0% shocked to hear this
Bruh that rap battle was better than anything ERB ever made
