ok real late reply, but ive been getting into wave sequencing, and while thats not possible with this unit, I can use the expression pedal to toggle each oscillator's volume via the layer option in the mod matrix [located within the layer menu], do this for each oscillator, to create a kind of phasing between those 3 waves. and I also can do a moment switch for control 1 foot switch, assigning the waveform for [in this case i chose just one] an oscillator, which can sound choppy so, to make for a smoother sweep between them, I added UVibe to each of the 3 oscillators. I also can set a delayed lfo on each of the three waves. Its not called delay ufo i think, but its the final option in the lfo menu for each one. I have both lfos activated for each of the three oscs.
The overall effect is almost wavetable like, although not quite, with some reverb or delay it can sound real nice.
On this one I had control 1 switch oscillator 2 between detune saw, and sin, and osc 1 was a tri wave, osc 3 was a pwm wave, the pitches were all normal.
On another one, I may try to select just sin tri and square, lower the default gain on the square to 'even' their tambres out, then really focus on layer phasing as above, to get those whooshy wavetable like sounds.
I'm honestly surprised I never tried messing with the oscillator layerings in real time but, for the purpose of "sort of" crossfading between the oscillators , this works pretty well.
I have several multi-pitch sequencing patches, some with all 3 oscillators at identical rates, others at differing rates. I also have set a patch where I imitate Steve Hackett's sounds from Ace of Wands, which was really fun to make. In which 3 differeent 8 step sequences, can be accessible via switching them either with the exp pedal, or control 1 switch.

Hi. Can the boss sy300 sequencer be synced to something like the behringer td3, so it can play sequences in time with the td3 patterns?

I just want a way to get a banjo sound to accompany some of my guitar parts. Anyone know how to get a banjo sound with this thing?

Interesting! So, can the sequences be stored and played back while using other functions on the unit (soloing, etc.)?

      @AustinSandick  6 лет назад +4

YES! The HOLD function should loop the sequence to you can solo and add layers! The CTL1 and other CTL pedals can be assigned to multiple functions if needed. Don't forget about MIDI either. This can only expand the controls while you have the sequencer going.

Here's a question for you Austin: Can I just use a MIDI controller and forego the guitar if I happen to feel like it? PS, mine just arrived, can hardly wait to try it out!

Can you freeze a note and still have the sequencer applied to the freeze sound and jam on top of that ?

I'd like to replace my Roland guitar synth with this Boss but I am unsure about its ability to do chord arpeggios. Is it possible to use Boss SY-300 to translate a strummed chord into a sequenced arpeggio? For instance, I strum a major chord, and it plays the notes of the chord in sequence. I switch to a minor chord and it does the same in minor scale. Is that possible with the sequencer or elsewhere in the Boss SY-300? Thanks!

I think there might be a way to link the lfo to pitch, but im not sure the pedal changes tone output to monophonic. You could maybe have two sequencing modes switch from major to minor on an ev5 expression pedal to switch between, and on a couple control pedals, change a few of the sequence step orders around.

    Hi Austin,
Could you explain how the SUB output work in the pedal? Considering buying the pedal, and haven't found more in-depth info on this anywhere... I'm a bass player and am looking to use this pedal to create modulating bass sounds in a live setting... Thanks!

fred8816 the sub output can be used to send any specific signal to another source! personally I use the sub outs to send low octave sounds through a PA or bass amp.

Thanks for all your great videos.
I'm having a problem with SY 300 working with other boss pedals. I've tried the running them with thru and return patch and they only work if the SY 300 is on.
E.G , If I try using the Boss wah pedal it wont work unless SY 300 is on. Any suggestions?

Robby Cenda you either have to turn up the return signal via the sy300 thru/rtn menu or set the main output to be a bypass and not a cut off

Hi Austin, I'm looking for an all in one device to simulate a hard cutting noise gate side chain effect using a continuous 4 bar sequence in 16th notes (so 64 steps). I just need to be able to cut the input volume on the specified steps. Ideally I'd like to add some hp/lp filtering but that's not essential. It's for guitar so I don't need to mess with the pitch etc. Can it do this? Thanks

    • @AustinSandick

There is no noise gate built into the sequencer on the SY. You could however use a pedal noise gate in the Thru and Return jacks. This is an effects loop you can add compact pedals too. The filters inside of the OSC will effect the sequencer. I'm not entirely sure about a full 64 steps? I know the sequencers can be synced but IDK if they can be linked to play a longer sequence....How this is helpful.

Can you get a different kind of sound when using the sequencer?
This demo makes it sound like an old video game. Can you change the sounds and effects the go into the sequencer?

you can set the expression pedal or the control 1 foot switch [or external fs7 footswitch] to toggle between osc wave types. but so far i dont think its possible for them to cycle through automatically.

yes you can! one you plug the footswitch in click the menu button. select ctrl expression section. the ctrl for the external is 4/5. set both button to do whatever you want.

This video doesn't even come close to showing what this pedal can do. Other video demonstrating many sounds from Rush's Subdivisions is far more effective.
