    Great vids. Thanks Austin. Went through them all and they were very helpful. Anyways, have you guys in Boss thought about making available the sounds of SY-1 for SY-300? I fell in love with some of the SY-1 sounds and bought also SY-300 to have more sounds at foot while gigging. Trying to recreate the SY-1 ones I got closer with your vids yet there is always greater or lesser differences impossible to get rid of, more often greater. For us, not quite bright or talented or not wishing to spend the rest of our lives playing around with the synth and rather playing it on stage, just having a live set of tones we are used to with enhanced options to tweak and switch would be the ideal scene . Thanks, Charlie.

    Hello Austin , I've created a 12 String patch. 1 regular guitar going through. 1 guitar sine +24 ( sounded more realistic than +12 and another
    all going through a chorus , EQ and Delay and reverb. How can I make it more realistic ?
    I was thinking of using harmonics, but don't know how to at this point. I've tried every effect with the hope
    of finding a setting that might randomly cancel out string sound when 2 octaves over lap. I've tried to consider
    just about everything. Can you please help me ??? Thank you 🙏🏼
    P.S. I have a background in programming ARP Odyssey's and have managed to creat sounds in others.

      CJ navage It seems that you have no idea what oscillators are and how to use them in blended sound. Oscillator is not something like high gain pedal that you turn only one on and make super duper sound.
      And that’s why this guy showed all the waveforms, not just showing only factory presets. Maybe this is still too soon for guitar players to understand what “synth” is.
      You must approach in different way when you talk about “synth” or “oscillator”.
      Poor boy... I’m pretty sure that you would use your overdrive pedal with full gain and just complain about it.

    Hello!
    my name is max , i am an electric oud player from israel.
    before purchesing the device I was wondering if you would kindly answer my question regarding playing the Oud with the Boss SY300.
    I want to ask if the devices can track microtones properly? Or like any other synth device it simpley doesnt understand which note you are playing and just gives you the trigger for either the flat or the sharp.
    The genre of music that im playing is full with scales and modes which are not necessarily tuned to the westen equal temperment system, and the usage of microtones is essential.
    I understand that on the boss sy300 there are some effects that are plain guitar digital effects such as delay reverb etc. there should not be any problem with microtones. but some parts of the unit is actually responsibble for converting audio signal into midi, and there is my dilema, how does the midi react to intervals which are smaller then a half step (not in a form of a bend or a slide, but actually a note which is generated from a microtone)
    Thanks for your time
    max.

    • @aspirativemusicproduction2135
      @aspirativemusicproduction2135 6 лет назад +1

      I would like to know for sure but since this device is not converting notes into midi it should be able to play microtonal music.

    Thanks for showing this off. I've kinda been drooling over this unit the past days. I am however curious about how it interacts with analog pedals. Do you use the thru output, do you chain them from the normal output? have you experimented with this? I haven't seen anyone show this off. Also, not sure what the layer section does. And how do you think this sounds compared to a moog or a nord? Can you achieve that sort of fatness? It sounds really good to me from some recordings but I probably won't have the chance to actually try a unit for myself before I order it so I'm trying to gather as much info as possible. Thanks!

    • @AustinSandick
      @AustinSandick  8 лет назад +1

      in most situation that I've used the sy300, I use it first in the chain and main output to the rest of my compact pedals. I have experimented with the thru output and sub outputs sending the regular guitar sound to the rest of my pedalboard. it depends what type of sounds you want to achieve imho. you have endless routing capabilities on the sy300. as far as achieving nord or fat synth sounds, you have 4 multi-effects units to use in the sy300 to put in the signal. this includes limiters, eq's, compressors and other necessary effects to achieve ultimate fatness in sound. I can post a video demo of the differences if you'd like. thanks for watching.

      Yes! there is a GR300 patch on bosstonecentral.com that you can download for free AND it's already one of the factory presets. i mean come on that sound has to be in there if it's and BOSS/Roland synth product 😁

I know that the gr55 , vg99 and gp 10 already have the gr300 but if it comes in this device with no tracking issues and no hex pickup its even better than an original one!

    You designed this pedal, right?
    Could you do another of these videos, demoing more about the knobs you can change, and how these adjustments have been used in synths / famous songs/bands in the past, and how the effects parameters work like other guitar pedals?
    I bought one of these.

    • @AustinSandick
      @AustinSandick  5 лет назад

      I did not design this pedal. There are artist patches and great sounds on BOSS Tone Studio for the SY-300 for great classic synth sounds and instruments. Even thought this is a guitar pedal the knob controls mimic that of an analog synth. There are guitar effects (OD, Delay, Chorus, etc.). Those controls are pretty familiar to a guitar player.

      The SY300 but it will not reproduce PCM sounds (Drums, Pianos, Wind Instruments). This is because of the subtractive synthesis used in the SY-300. I've gotten a pretty good Rock Organ, Analog Synth, and Flute esc sounds.

      It works like an old school snyth, Moog, et. al. It's not intended to mimic a workstation (try the Roland GR-55), or a sample based synth like the Mellotron (try Electro Harmonix's Mel-9).

    First of all, I love Boss and Roland gear. GT10B is a great pedal, loved the ME70, awesome. But this Sy300 is pure garbage.
    I am persistent when it comes to technology. I have spent around 30 hours using Boss SY300. I have to say I have found it to be one of the most expensive and disappointing pedals I have ever used. Apparently it can be used with bass guitar? Doesn't seem the case. I have messed with the settings. It makes no difference to tracking.
    I have spent many hours trying to get any kind of decent synth bass sounds using a bass guitar. Almost all of wave forms sounds like old arcade machines or ring mod distortion. I have been to tone central which has about 5 bass presets. There is nothing nice or useful in it.
    Worse still is that no matter what I did it seems to have such latency it almost renders it impossible to use in a group setting.
    Is this normal? It sounds like it has a permanent slow attack no matter how I set it up. Whats the story?

    • @AustinSandick
      @AustinSandick  5 лет назад +1

      Make sure you have the BASS switch turned on in the master input menu. Also compressing the input signal slightly can give you more control of the OSC with your playing technique.

    • @the1average1bear
      @the1average1bear 7 лет назад

      Ryan Miller I think even the raw waveforms sound fairly bad but I can definitely see how you can get some pretty good sounds. Given what it is and who it's aimed at (guitarist not deep synthesist), it's actually pretty great. That Midi out helps it out a lot too.
