Synths are what got me interested in pedals in the first place. Overdrives and reverbs always sounded like "something the amp did", but the thought of pressing a pedal and suddenly you're playing a different instrument, always fascinated me. Thank you for the episode!

Agreed - and though the alt function settings are a little tricky it does a good job of being tweakable without midi but then fully programmable with midi. Only disappointed they didn’t dive into the Dry Mode on the Enzo - it’s a sleeper!

Meris is awesome but crazy annoying. In fact so infuriating it's a waste of time, presets is another pedal, plus 100€... The scammiest tactics do not get my recommendation. Meris could be amazing, but practical/functional design is a disaster.

It's so great to see Meris' Enzo discussed. Hell, it's great to see this category discussed and thanks guys for doing so. If viewers are looking for proper demos of what synth pedals, and especially those by Meris can do - which is a hell of a lot! - you will need to look elsewhere. Yes, the learning curve is steep. But once the basics are mastered there is nothing like it. These pedals take you places you have never been and will not want to return from once you're there. e.g., Guitarists like Ed O'Brien, Kevin Parker, Andy Othling et al live for these types of sounds. Btw, The Enzo can be controlled wirelessly via Bluetooth MIDI. As Mick notes Enzo can be used with anything - keyboards, vocals, bass, etc.

The Swarm has me totally inspired, gotta say. Will get one. I have the AM Envelope Filter and man, it's easily the best Filter pedal I've ever ever played. Such a good episode. As one of those annoying multi-instrumentalist types, I've always used keys for my synth sounds, though I do like using pedals to get some weirdness going. Not sure I will go down this route, but again, your show has inspired me to experiment further. I always remember an interview with Tony Banks saying he was constantly trying to make his keys more guitar like, and Steve was always trying to make his guitar more synth like. The extent to which this worked is such that I confused the two, particularly on Return of the Giant Hogweed. Keep on keeping on, you are often the reason I pick up a guitar to try something new.

Dan, I'd like to relate an experience I had a few days ago. I was working on finding my own "cheat code" for intervals, a la your second practice vlog, and had gotten to the fourth. After playing one-four several times, I recognized a melody, but couldn't place it. For the first time in my life, I played a melody full through without having to think about it, and I was half way through it before I realized what it was. It was Taps, and through my tears the final note was the best, truest note I have ever played in my life. That happened the evening of September 11. Your brief but on point tutelage played a large part in that simple yet deeply moving experience, and I would like to thank you dearly.

I finally plugged in my SY-1 (had been busy), and I'm absolutely blown away. I've had various pickup-based guitar synths and honestly they were all crap. I've always loved the idea, but it just never pans out. I'm really into modular synthesis, but this is just fun. The articulation and tracking on it is absolutely flawless. I can't believe how good it is. Sure; the sounds are limited, but that's ok. It's also so simple and small. I'm a fan.

I saw a super fun vid on reddit, someone was demoing their pedalboard with pigtronix motherboard 2 and sy-1, really cool sounds, played some Miley. This SY-1 is amazing and I can't understand how I didn't realize it back when I watched this video. SO MUCH potential for experimentations. So many cool sounds. Even that 80's synth that could be in Arnold's iron pumping vid. Or his action movies.

So if I can ever get a D&M drive, I may have to get a second case made with special graphics and call it the Ocelots & Elephants. What a great show!! I don't know enough about synth stuff, mainly because I haven't taken the plunge into MIDI. Some of these pedals seem approachable, though. Especially the Swarm. I think a really killer fuzz sound that is controllable and plays well with other pedals could be dialed in, not to mention all of the other tones available. Feed that Greer into it and dial it in! Finally, I was streaming this episode on my good stereo system. When you kicked in the Analogman filter, it nearly took my head off!

Toska used synth sounds coming both from Moogs and bass effects as I recall while bolding guitar melodies, overdubing etc. It worked out great (Fire By The Silos album, watch 'The making of'). So, synths are great studio tool even if you do not use them live or compose with them. They add such a texture. By the way, that Meris Enzo is one of the most interesting pedals I've heard in a long time..it is like ultimate, original mod-synth-crush pedal, very inspiring even trough simple desktop speakers. Only half way through the vid, so apologies if you end up getting to it, but what order in the signal path would you place these? I currently have my c4 synth running early in the chain, in between my compressor and first gain stage... found that single coil pickups werent as great as tracking or triggering the envelope, but using a compressor to both homoginize and raise the signal allows me to correct for that, and placing the synth early allows me to further modulate the sound for some vintage craziness. Im a diehard analog fan... but this s&^t is way too fun to hold onto those scruples! (Apart from having 128 fully customizable sounds, the c4 also has a mix mode to mix in the analog sound in wet/dry fashion.) Thanks for sharing this. I think youll be breaking the stigma fellas!

The bassist from the covers band that I used to be in had a Synth Wah and used it on our Muse-inspired cover of House of the Rising Sun. It was epic!

That sy sounds sweet, just wondering how ye we’re managing to hold function on it and layering the guitar over the synth sound? As I’m fronting a 3 piece cover band I could really do with something to fill up the sound a bit! Some organ or synth pads would really help! Other thing would it be easy to set it up with a pedal switcher to control its hold function rather than having to add another switch to the board....? Any info would be greatly appreciated on your Vcq’s
