  • Come with us to the Armstrong Rifled Muzzle Loader Battery in Drøbak and hear Morten Svinndal tell the story about these guns.
    Morten Svinndal is a former officer in the Norwegian Defence. He now works as historical narrator of the Norwegian Defence history at the Oscarsborg museums. He has special knowledge on guns and the sinking of the heavy cruiser "Blücher" at the 9. April 1940.

    Yay! I’m glad to see such a well preserved battery of these transitional artillery pieces. I too am fascinated by this era of artillery, where craft transitioned into engineering. Often a lot of details and mechanisms are lost or poorly understood.

      Thank you for your feedback. The battery is actually in much better condition now than when the film was made, thanks to the comprehensive maintenance of Oscarsborg festnings venner (Friends of Oscarsborg).

    Great video. Some questions. Was this battery manned and operational in April 1940? Is it near the Kopas battery? And did the Armstrongs on the island take part in the battle against the Blucher? Thanks.

      Thank you, glad you enjoyed it. All nine Armstrong RMLs were taken out of the war structure in 1917 and as far as I know, never used after that. The battery on this video is situated approx 500m sotheast of Kopås and much higher in the terrain.
