    Awesome vid Chris, can't wait to do mine. Question at 15:04 you say not to use the included washer, but aren't they referring to the DC2 "Thin" washer you had just previously stuck to the caliper with the grease? That is to help center the rotor in between both pads, no?

      Good catch! It took me a bit to figure out what happened here, so let me explain. First off, you're correct in that I used the thin DC2 washer to help center the caliper, which is definitely necessary. That's a critical part to this install and i want to make sure you know that you have that part correct.
      Watching this back now, I was confused because the picture in the instructions for the "Bracket and Knuckle", show a black allen head bolt and a washer. I presume this was Spoon's old included hardware, where a washer was included because the black allen head bolt did not have a flange on it. If you look at the beginning of the video at the included hardware in my kit, you'll notice that the black allen head bolts are not there and they're replaced with black flanged bolts instead. The confusing part is that Spoon still includes washers for those bolts--which i think is a mistake and probably should be removed. So at 15:04 I was looking at that black allen head bolt picture and talking about how you don't need a washer under the bolt head because both OEM and Spoon are flanged bolts, so the washer is redundant and just takes away from usable threads. But yes, you still need the thin washer to center the caliper (and you still need the washers under the zinc plated allen bolts that hold the Spoon caliper to the Spoon caliper bracket). Hope that helps!

    Very cool! Love the color on those, great comprehensive look at installation.

    Thank you for the video. But I believe would work better if you actually put on the bracket to chassis prior to putting the caliper to the bracket? would have make your spacer install much easier?

      Yes you are correct. At 14:18 I have a caption on screen that states "Hint: Mount the caliper bracket first, without the caliper to get in the way".

    Did you have to bleed the brake
    Fluid after installed?

      Yes definitely. Any time you open a brake line you should bleed the air.

    How do they perform?

      They're good. Sizing wise, the calipers themselves are not a huge upgrade (as mentioned in the video, the pad size is actually smaller than stock). The main change is going from stock 2 piston to spoon 4 piston, so you get better modulation. For 97+ NSX, that's where the upgrade stops. For 91-96 NSX, you have to also upgrade the rotor size, so you get a bit performance there in brake torque and resistance to brake fade. I haven't had a chance to really test the limits of this brake setup, but with a nice pad compound, I'm sure they will be great. Spoon Sports also used this caliper on their shop NSX which they campaigned during numerous races so I have no doubt should perform well.

    The thinner washers are still too thick to perfectly center the caliper, and some pads such as Carbotech 1521 will have trouble fitting on the inside position. I shaved my washers from 0.062" down to 0.042" to correct this.

      Yes I probably should have mentioned in the video that it’s not perfectly centered but it’s not far off.

    How far out is the caliper from the hub? I'm trying to see if the type of rim i have will clear that thickness of a caliper

      Sorry I don’t have any measurements. My 16” Mugen M7 fit over this caliper though. Spoke design is also a factor as well as wheel diameter though.

    Question did you have to bleed the brake system?

    • @ChrisLumNSX
      @ChrisLumNSX  Год назад

      Yes definitely. Anytime you open up the brake lines to introduce air into the system you will want to bleed the system.
