      Sorry about that! the link to the 3M VHB tape has been added. Correct, no need for a heat gun. You could use a heat gun or hair dryer if you're attempting this in freezing temps, otherwise, no need. You'll see that the adhesion promoter is almost like a thin layer of glue so the promoter + the correct 3M tape is all you need. The spoiler has been holding up perfectly for me so far!

    Awesome video. My 1991 NSX is going to need to have the clutch replaced pretty soon. Also I've been having a small oil leak from the rear bank (bank 2) dripping and smoking up on the rear exhaust manifold, I've removed and re-sealed some of the cylinder head oil galley (pipe thread type) sealing bolts (16mm and 10mm?) on both heads that I saw were leaking. So I hope it stops the particular problem.

    • @ChrisLumNSX
      @ChrisLumNSX 20 дней назад

      Thank you! Yes oil leaks can be annoying. My car came with 2 separate leaks when i bought it: oil pan and oil pressure sender. There are a lot of places that can spring a leak so i always advise people that if it's not easy to find, clean the engine so you have a clean slate to inspect and check back frequently, following the oil upwards and you'll likely find the source.

      Thank you! I'm running Falken RT660 in 215/40/17 and 275/35/18. But you should know that the RT660 run wide, a lot wider than the Falken Azenis RT615 for the same sizes. And this applies in comparison to other tire manufacturers too, so you just have to compare things like tread width, tread section, etc. when cross shopping tires against the model and sizes that i'm using.

It’s one of those items that no one has ever seen a failure from age on the nsx though even replacing at 10 yrs old. I think because most nsx do very little mileage and are relatively well taken care of and not driven very hard.

    Did you consider wrapping the original headliner in alcantara?

    • @ChrisLumNSX
      @ChrisLumNSX 23 дня назад

      I did actually. It's a bit of a complicated and long winded answer. The OEM R headliner isn't cheap, especially with shipping, so I highly considered wrapping in alcantara, which would have been around $200 in material or so, so significant savings. However, the one big drawback was going to be the labor. There would have been 2 methods for wrapping: either remove the oem vinyl layer + scrape off all the aged foam underneath or lay alcantara directly on top of the vinyl. One is obviously much less labor intensive than the other, but either way, i didn't feel super confident with the glue i was using. For my door panels and door sill, i use 3M 90 spray adhesive. It works well and holds up well for those applications, maybe because they're small in size. I've heard that the glue does not hold up well for headliner. It is recommended to use DAP Weldwood contact adhesive for headliners since it's a large piece of material and heavier, but i tried the Weldwood in a can on some door cards before and it was significantly harder to work with than the 3M product and didn't hold for me. I know it must have been some kind of user error, but that really deterred me from going the DIY route because i didn't want to mess up on a large piece of alcantara. Also, the visor area of the headliner is semi-deep in contouring so i didn't know how well the alcantara would contour and how much trouble it would give me. In the end, i decided i needed to bite the bullet and go with the $900 OEM price tag (600 + 300 shipping) just to be safe. OEM is always a safe bet in terms of quality and resale too. I'm not going to lie though, I'm definitely curious about wrapping a headliner. I sold my old one, but if i can come across a beat one for cheap, i may pick it up and test wrap it.

    • @o_tdiggity
      @o_tdiggity 23 дня назад

      @@ChrisLumNSX $900 isn’t bad. I contacted an upholsterer in SGV and he wanted $1500 to remove and rewrap. That labor is $$$

    • @ChrisLumNSX
      @ChrisLumNSX 23 дня назад

      @o_tdiggity sorry I guess I was comparing it to a DIY job which affects the price tag a lot. Yes, if you were to compare a professional job versus OEM, OEM makes a lot of sense.

    • @ChrisLumNSX
      @ChrisLumNSX 23 дня назад

      I like it, but it's the only brand I have experience with. I've had 3 different models and they've all been excellent. The only downside (or upside) is that there's no screen on it, so you have to use your phone app to aim it or review footage, but the upside is that it's smaller and blocks less space than the kind with screens attached. It's reliable as well. I've had a blackvue of some sort for over 10 years easily.

    When removing the door handle trim, it’s worth taping up the handle and the section behind the handle to avoid scratching those areas.

    Just enjoyed through the entire hour and 22 minutes… thanks for pumping out the great content Chris! Also major bummer on your mishap in trying to spot repair😢 but hats off to you for showing your mistakes and letting us know how you solved the problems. One PSA and highlight note take away from your video, Is the fact that the Mugen radiator cap is not correctly rated for our NSXs. You should make a separate video explaining about the differences in the bar rating 1.1 versus 1.3. Some other NSX owners had experienced premature failure and wear due to aftermarket radiator caps, not allowing the proper disbursement of pressure.

      Yeah it was a terrible mistake that cost me big bucks but I’ll recover. It’s one of those things that I’ll definitely never repeat again because of how much it cost me. I’ll research about the rad cap, thanks Robert!

      @@ChrisLumNSX sorry I didn’t check back sooner, but Steven Glover just tagged you in an epic and informative post by Chris Willson (ScienceofSpeed)

      Yup it’s because I was talking to him about the 1.3 vs 1.1 caps and he hasn’t heard of any issues with the higher pressure caps. That issue was specifically about oem 1.1 caps that didn’t meet original specifications. So I’m thinking 1.3 caps should be fine.

    Chris, you mentioned you had a radiator handy and was pushing the replacement, but how did you know the radiator was nearing replacement time? Is it an age thing or did you see signs? If the latter, what tells you it needs to be replaced? Keep up the good videos. Car looks great!

    • @ChrisLumNSX
      @ChrisLumNSX 26 дней назад

      Thanks! There are signs the radiator is old, color of the plastic (I think it’s supposed to be black) and you can get an idea if a radiator had been installed for a long time based on how dented up the front is from rocks and debris. I think mine might have also had a date in it? I’m not positive on that one. But my car also came with a ton of maintenance records and while coolant hose replacement was on them, a new radiator wasn’t. I was pretty certain that it was the original radiator from 1991.

    What is that store for the headliner? I haven’t heard of it before. Great video btw, tons of useful info crammed into a single video 😊

      Yeah impex Japan is legit. It was my first time using them too but many others have used them and they were a lot cheaper than amayama for the headliner. I do prefer Amayama though which is why I continue to purchase anything else I can from them. Just that I saved like $3-400 on the headliner from Impex so I had no choice!

    Do you have a car jack that stays in the car; if so, which one? Thanks! Great instructional video, btw!

    • @ChrisLumNSX
      @ChrisLumNSX 27 дней назад

      Thanks! Currently I don't have one that is permanently in the car. I have a couple of aluminum jacks at home which I would use if I never needed it (I would just have someone deliver it to me if I were on the side of the road locally).Having that said, if you got a flat and repaired it with this kit, you may not need to remove the wheel from the car. You WOULD need a good air compressor or emergency air pump though in order to fill it up from empty--this is of course if the tire hasn't already de-beaded As far as emergency scissor jacks go, I would have to do research into something that would be a good fit for the car. I've heard some stories of jacks that fail because they aren't rated for the weight of an EV, so it's definitely something that needs to be looked into carefully and vetted.
