Every time Jeremy reviews a 911: "It's insanely well-built, it has unreal handling, it's ridiculously fast, and it's perfect in every conceivable way. I hate it."
Yeah, because the car is souless.
@@andreazonin Last time a Porsche had a soul it killed someone *cough* Carrera GT *cough*

@@andreazonin Ahh no problem. At least we reached an agreement and put a stop to your tomfoolery
Like when Jeremy had brought an MX-5 to the Middle East in that special his synopsis was that because everything went perfectly with the car, nothing surprised him and the Mazda was bland for him.
Just drove a 2008 997 Turbo. I felt all of the blood on my face being sucked into the back of my skull when I floored it. Amazing machine!
tiptron or manual?
TheEliminator Yup. And the handling is jaw dropping too. I had a 993/4 which just cornered with an insane amount of grip. I would imagine that the 997 is no different.
Imagine the 991 turbo s, that does 0-60 in 2.6 seconds

I've always been partial to American muscle cars and Italian exotics/sports cars, but this video has me wanting a Porsche. There's definitely a beauty in its efficiency, both in form and function. Clinical, shminical.
I like American, but a Porsche is a different level. Even the base carrera
Porsche is in a league of it's own
You cant go wrong with Porsche it wont be your first and you will appreciate its refined and tank like build. For me its Acura NSX or Any Acura product , Lexus LFA or the Porsche 911 You cant go wrong you simply cant.
Top Gear really has some good videographers... that shot with the balloon at 3:09 was amazing.
i pick up my 911 997 this week. £44k 09 plate 30k miles. 2 year warranty. Mightily pleased.
And how is it then?
My dads looking at buying one, as all other Porsches are going for mental money. My guess is the 997 turbo will be next ☺️ not that it would ever get sold
+Charlie Moy It's the last Mezger engine Turbo so I think you may be right.
+SenszR And now they've got rid of the manual, even more so.
God that's depressing
Who knew ALL I had to do was buy an old Porsche and my fat wife would become slim!
That's not how it works. You get a new, young, slim wife, with the Porsche but have to pay to divorce the old, fat wife!
Noooooo, he has logic! HELP, RUclips LOGIC SCARES ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bo McGillacutty if you buy a Porsche you probably will get a slim girlfriend whom you will have to make your wife
cchujnickSpam2 I'm happy with my BMW and random hook ups frankly. hahaha
anonymous anon I guess it brings the kid out of me, that's not always a bad thing. :-)
I like the 40-60 mph statistic because I think its more relevant than 0-60 or top speed. Most of the time when someone guns the accelerator pedal, they are already moving, maybe merging onto a highway or passing someone...1 second, wow.
🤯
Glad to finally see jeremy talking positively about a 911.

These 997's are still £53k in this spec with reasonable mileage
Admiral_Awesome Even the Carrera (2009) model is about 35£ with low mileage !
Joshua Conyers can you find me one then? Link it here
+Admiral_Awesome Because they are still pretty good cars.
Stryke not saying they aren't, just expected depreciation to have taken more out the value haha
Admiral_Awesome No, Porsches do have quite a good value. Everyone would like to have them, and of course it helps that they are probably the most reliable sports cars you could find.
Sadly, the latest 911 is not compact anymore. Its width is comparable to other supercars and the wheelbase is quite long for a 911. On the bright side, it makes it more stable and allows for more potential on the handling.
If I wanted a semi functional Vehicle that people are afraid to touch and call Art...I'll buy a piece of $700,000 Painting.
If I want Art that can handle the road, Hug and Carve the road and sing me a song with the engine while it is doing it. PORSCHE for the win!

Porsches are cheaper to own in the long run than Ferraris, more fuel efficient, easier to work on, easier and cheaper to fix, and are WAY better built. Ferraris look better, though. Porsche quality vs Ferrari aesthetics... Porsche wins.
German sensibility vs Italian passion.
KPaccountt You can't say Germans aren't passionate. You can't build cars like the 911 turbo without passion.
Mark Scott There is no passion in german engineering.
John Lawry They couldn't do what they do without passion. Practically impossible.
John Lawry They do have passion, but it's on a different approach. Their passionate on perfection and engineering. Italians are more passionate about the design and the sensation of driving.

Porsche is the best bang for the buck in Supercars!!! You buy Ferrari for the name and prestige or something else...
I'd have to say the the GTR is the best bang for buck, performance-wise. But it is just not fun. Porsches are the most fun to drive though, bang for buck, I agree. Of course, owning a supercar is about prestige as much as anything else. I'd rather have a Ferrari.
Brennan Wallman its still a nissan though, and thats embarissing. Porsche oozes speed and class the gtr is just a fast car nothing else just a fast micra.
***** I have only driven one Ferrari in 1972, a 246GT. Great car. I drove a GTR a couple of years ago and loved it, but it is no Porsche. I bought my first Porsche in 1973, and I currently own a 13 year old 911-996.
Brennan Wallman Vette > GTR in terms of best bang. Vette's our 30K cheaper for a Z06. Performance is close too, not quite as good, but close if you know how to drive.
***** I agree with your argument that the Vette is the best bang for your buck. It has just about everything that Ferrari has with a price tag less than half the cost of the F-Car IMHO
They're 2 different breeds of beauty. It's hard to compare the 2 when simply talking esthetics. I think the Porsche has so much more to offer though. They've been enginerring the shit out of the 911 which has basically been the same car for the last 2 decades or so. Playing with different set ups are configurations. You can't put out a brand new model every 3 or 4 years and expect it to be a perfectly balanced car through and through like a 911.
Marry the Porsche, cheat with the Ferrari.
I win the lottery, I'm buying a Porsche before a Ferrari or Lambo. Probably a Panamera first because I'm old and want to just cruise around the country in comfort and style with the great sound system, throw my bags and junk in the back seat and cruise. Then I'll buy a 911 coupe of some hot configuration. Anybody out there want my old clapped out Maxima SE? I'll give it to ya.
You can't look good in a Panamera. It's hideous.

ice cream made out of squash opponent... haha clarkson
@3:21 Wait the 997 turbo was offered in manual?
Yes, but not the Turbo S.
@ExecutivePwnage - Turbo vs ZR1. Similar pricing, different configurations (3.6 turbo flat six vs 6.2 supercharged V8), similar weight IIRC, the Vette probably has a slower gearshift, and the 911's awesome traction would give it an advantage, but I reckon it'd be too close to call. They're both in the mid-7:20s around the Nurburgring Nordschleife. Of course the Porsche is better built, has better traction, gearbox, interior, etc, but if you can't love a Vette you're not a petrolhead IMO.
I've watched this clip for years and just noticed that at 1:26 you can hear the sopranos theme its a very small snippet and no lyrics but its definitely the Alabama 3

2:05 So in Los Angeles cars accually clean the air and help saving the environment! HAHA
+Kei ofcourse :)
maybe german cars do. american cars are the crapy polutants
Blake Belladonna there maybe, perhaps, some exaggeration, but what he actually said was true.
In certain Porsche models the air coming out of the exhaust is actually less toxic than the air going in when driving in very polluted cities.
The reason for this, is purely down to the way that Porsche compresses and combusts the fuel air mixture.
It's the same in the 918.
Juan Campo I think you're missing the point here: an actual car is supposed to pollute the air this is one of the things that separate cars from Teslas

@LMF5000 thank you, I just wanted to say they should say those units. I know what they are, and so should other people.
By the way, it's g/cm³ not g/km, grams per centimeter cubed. And bhp actually means "Brake horse power", which is the actual amount of power the engine outputs (you don't include the power lost from friction in the gearbox, differentials etc.)

I have an 06 Cayman S with a 3.8. It's about 80-90hp over the stock 3.4 that was originally in the car. and it is a blast to drive. I prefer it over a 911 due to the price. Plus the engine is in the middle. But I do think the new 911 Turbo S is awesome. Not 180k awesome though.

@IMB2U i think the reason they say "300 carbon dioxides" is to keep things very very simple. once you get into more technical terms it puts people to sleep. some people may even be embarrassed that they do not know what it means and turn the chanel. hence why they dont let James May explain a lot of the real "science" behind a lot of the cars they showcase. a big part of TopGear's success is their ability to make things like this more interesting and obviously bring some humour into it.

But Jeremy being Jeremy, back in the studio he said that he'd still have a Ferrari.
@ExecutivePwnage especially since the new one with pdk does 0-60 in 2.9 seconds ;)
A 911 is a $100,000+ car. I would still be worried about all of the things that Jeremy was worried about in his Ferrari.
+MrJc9600 - Meh, they're more reliable, more practical and much less flashy. In general, I don't think they attract as much unwanted attention as a Ferrari. But you're right in some sense, I would be uneasy leaving it parked when visiting a restaurant, or a mall.
+OMGWTFLOL I'm not too sure to be honest.
I tend to think that at least where I live, people will give more respect to a Ferrari. Almost every body loves and admires a Ferrari, while there are still a lot of idiots out there who think of Porsche's as "an overpriced VW beetle" - and for that reason a lot of people don't respect Porsche drivers I think the way they would respect a Ferrari driver.
But either way, I think ANYBODY who owns a prestige brand of car (even if it is just an Audi / Mercedes / Jaguar / BMW) is going to draw the attention of deuchebags. I definately don't think Porsche owners would be spared from that.
***** I assume you live in Europe or in the US? If so you are very lucky. Here in Oz you would be looking at a minimum $50k or so for an average, high km 2008 911.
Sadly we get killed on import tax and luxury car tax here, so we pay stupid prices for euro cars.
For example, you'll struggle to find a decent Gen 5 Golf GTi here for $10,000. They are around $45,000 new., with a Golf R being closer to $60k.
Considering buying a 997 Turbo. Could somebody chime in on the reliability on these cars past 100,000 miles? Iv had BMW E60 M5 and E39 M5, Both have been horrible on reliability. Have a Toyota 4Runner with 250,000 Miles still works like a swiss watch. So what am i getting into?
Mine now has 180.000km on the dial. Works like a charm! Only problems I had were loose endpipes (just screwed them on again), broken O2 sensor and the well known weakness of rusty shock absorbers. Other than that only the usual little things happened. Very realiable car! Just look into the driver profile of the last owner. If they get thrashed around a lot they tend to have more problems.
Best reaction ever! 😂 5:52
@Riles07 The Porsche logo is older than the Ferrari logo but Ferrari started selling cars a year earlier than Porsche.
II might actually be that both logos originate from the same source. Porsche took the prancing horse from the emblem of the city of Stuttgart while Ferrari took it from an italian WW1 fighter ace.
The fighter ace most likely used the prancing horse because of his old cavalry regiment but he might have copied it of a german fighter pilot who in turn copied it from Stuttgart.
I'll never understand why Jezza hates Porsche so much. A 911 is simply the finest automobile ever designed. And still is. In every way.
Granted I say that as a 911 owner.
Trent Hamilton A lot of it is probably his TV persona, they all joke about the cars they "hate" But in reality though it may not be his favorite, I highly doubt you can hate amazingly cars like this! Though you could have a car you prefer.

The 430 is a supercar & the 911 is sports car
So supercars are slower than sports cars?
Lol yes in this case
Lol in this case yes
Drive a GT3 and tell me its not a supercar.
I like these petrolhead discussions despite they are often between people who never drove the cars. Actually I drove the new TT in Germany recently and I was seriously surprised, it is a proper driver's car, not a hardcore one but one. A lot of people would disagree despite they haven't driven one. Makes it a bit pointless.
Its odd that I like Jeremy considering he hates my two favorite brands of autos: BMW and Porsche...and with no real reason. When asked about such he says BMW's are for people who do blah blah blah or Porsches are owned by people that blah blah blah. Never giving a concrete reason why he loathes them.
Because british people hates germany
He loves audi though
