I am Scottish and I wept at the end. I remember watching Operation Daybreak with my father (I inherited my love of war movies off him) He has passed away now but it was his favorite movie. I wish he could have seen "Anthropoid" The Czech SOE guys did some of their training in Scotland before they went out on their mission. We will never see there like again.

Really awesome film. Gotta give respect to the Director for sticking so true to the facts. This movie is pretty much 100% true to what actually happened. They even filmed it at at the exact locations where the events happened (a lot of the church siege was filmed on a back lot, but the exterior and street shots are of the actual church). If any film has the right to use "based on a true story" in the opening titles it is this one. Fantastic film and massively underrated.

Come on, guys. It is based on true events. Actually, this movie is all about true event - assassination on Heydrich, one of the most powerful men in Germany in WW2. It is not just one of 100 more boring WW2 movies, this actually happened, and it is one of the most unknown and even one of the most emotive chapters of WW2.

Very true! Full of emotions. All actors are playing REAL characters, the plot is historically correct and Someone was saying its like a Shakespeare drama full of heroism, love, friendship, sacrifice but also betrayal,
meanness and death . It's a great epic story and what is even greater that all is true!!! Finally more people around the world get noticed!

There is also that "little known" Reinhard Heydrich related curiosity, that i think should be mentioned here..Heydrich was sent by Hitler to Czechia and Moravia to be a Deputy/Acting Reich-Protector there..Later he went to St.Vitus Cathedral to look at the old Czech coronation jewels. An ancient Czech legend written in the chronicle says, that whoever without a royal pedigree places a royal crown on his head, will be doomed to die...He heard about this legend and he laughed at it..Then he placed the crown onto his head and same did his little eight-year old son.. Heydrich died as you know on 4th of june 1942 after the assassination and his son Klaus died on 24th of october 1943 during the car accident.. Sorry for my not perfect english, hoping you understood most of it..

@mike boultinghouse Well, that crown isn't completely non-German, as it was made by the Holy Roman emperor Charles IV, but art wasn't Heydrich's style. He was completely focused at his objectives and managed to destroy most of the Czechoslovak resistance Obrana Národa. The French are lucky that he was killed, because France was meant to be his next destination.

I want to share something here: I know an old lady whose father was part of the group that supported the operation Anthropoid. He was arrested in the may 1942 and killed few months afterwards. She and her family lived in Prague and what was happening there few years after the operation was a terror (by her words). She told me about it only recently and I remembered this movie. Like, this really happened. I know it is a historic movie but they sometimes seems to me like the story "once upon a time", and I feel detatched from it. But this made me realize that this really happened (and just in a country next to mine, so as a Slovak it gets really personal), there were people who were affected by the whole situation. It must have been horrible days to live in.

Was in Prague and I just went to the church where the fighters died to pay respect and it was definitely a moving experience. I came here after that. Didnt know about the movie before. While we can debate the decision to pursue Operation Anthropoid- there can be no debate about the courage the men displayed! One look at the crypt in the church where everything ended would be a good enough indication of how heroic their efforts were !

Im highly unsatisfied that everybody here is talking only about Czech Republic. Jozef Gabčík, the MAIN PERSON in operation Anthropoid was Slovak. Slovak born, by slovak parents , trained and shcooled by slovak army in slovakia and his heroic attitude and harddeadness was gained by his slovak father. Yes we were in Czechoslovakia but there are minor mentions that huge part in this was acomplished by mainly Slovak person. Czechs like to interpret

This is without saying a masterpeace made with an enormous respect for those people and Czech history. I had to purchase this movie. Every May since 2010, I have attended the World War 2 liberation ceremonies in the city of Plzen, about 70 km west of Prague. My father was with the 97th infantry, a part of Patton's 3rd Army. In 2016, I had stayed with a Czech family in Prague and we had driven past this monument of men parachuting to earth. I had asked what the monument was about. I was informed that this was the spot where several of the Czech underground had set up to ambush and kill Reinhard Heydrich, also known as "The Butcher of Prague." The Americans who had attended the liberation ceremonies in 2016, we were all taken to the location where the Nazis had murdered many of the Czech people were related to or who were acquaintances of the 2 gentlemen.

Is not bad, the cast is really good at least. the fact that they got away with killing the number 3 Nazi leader at the time is impressive. I love how they show him, in films and at the end going down like a bad ass. It almost makes him heroic considering that he broke the Resistance at the time and planned the Final Solution. Just about everyone dies in the film , sorry no Hollywood cavalry rescue in this one. But their sacrifice probably is something that helped prevent a Nazi mastermind from going on executing the brutal policies of the Nazi regime in Czechoslovakia and Eastern Europe.

You know...For example There were alot of industries who made REALLY GOOD MONEY on the war (f.ex Ford, families such as Rockefellers etc), many, western countries didn't wanna have a war with the nazis because it could hurt them economically. Also after the war USA hired over thousand nazi german scientiest and doctors intomthe american system, protecting thm (instead of punishing) in order to get intel for politician motives. Furthermore, there were also many people in Nazi Germany who didn't like Hitler (such as minorities, gays, people with different conditions and many, many more) but was too afraid to stand up and had to "support" nazism etc. I'm not defending the ones who believed and fought for the Nazis but I'm saying that you can't dismissf.ex EVERY German as a blood hungry monster nor can you defend f.ex EVERY American and saying that EVERYONE in the western only fought for justice and made NO PROFIT on the war.
I'm not supporting nazism, on the contrary, I want more movies to speak out that there were many powerful people at the time who (behind puclic eyes) supported it.
