Fun fact : she has a better pronunciation of an intervocalic s (voiced) than him (voiceless)
She says correctly laZagna, he says laSagna , but it's quite typical in southern Italy where s is always voiceless like in spanish, and the opposite happens for z, where it's pronounced almost voiced

This doesn't mean that he is wrong, every region has it's regional italian, in Sicily and south Sardinia the vowels are always opened, in Liguria always closed, in other regions are inverted compared to the standard pronunciation, some regions struggle with double consonants (Veneto generally has a feble pronunciation, Sardinia has a strong pronunciation even when it's not required) so the lesson is: don't worry if you have not a perfect pronunciation, we as italians have no problems about it
Fun fact: in spanish the GN sound is Ñ, for example lasagna=lasaña
And in Portuguese it’s NH (although it is usually pronounced with a slight difference)
*lasagna → lasanha*

My husband is a know it all that really does NOT know it ALL. He thinks gnocchi is pronounced "nockey", as in rhymes with hockey. Only he tries to say it with a sound like he's trying to clear his throat. I knew I was pronouncing it right all along, but to a know it all like him, I'm always the wrong one. Thanks for the real Italian pronunciation. 😊

These two sounds are extremely common in Slavic languages (but of course spelt differently according to their language's alphabet).

Da quello che sento, la ``i`` in ``gli...`` non è pronunciata e serve solo a formare questo suono particolare che è diverso del suono ``gl`` in ``globo``. Però, vedo un`eccezione nel caso in cui ``gli`` non è seguito da un`altra lettera e dove la ``i`` è pronunciata. Per essere logico e coerente, me lo spiego pensando che invece di scrivere ``glii``, si scrive ``gli`` perché in italiano non ci sono le due medesime vocali una dopo l`altra.

You can say 'buon lavoro' as wish to someone that is going to work (we normally say it before saying goodbye). On the other hand, if you want to express your appreciation about someone's job, you can say 'ottimo lavoro!'. 😊

@@davebanko4759 Dave, try this: when you usually make the L sound you just put the tip of the tongue on the upper palate (the roof of the mouth). Instead, if you want to pronounce a GL sound, you must touch a wider portion of the tongue to the palate, starting from the tip and down to the half of the tongue (let's say, the foremost half of the tongue simultaneously). At this point, try to pronounce L with this uncommon position: the sound should transform into GL.
If you are English native. italian gn = the sound in the English word union, onion or bunion.
And for the Italian "gli", do the same sound as in the English words million, or billion, stallion, scallion etc.

In portoghese abbiamo i suoni "lh" e "nh" che sono molto somiglianti a gli e gn e ci aiutano a imparare l'italiano.

I don't understand something about GLI. When you say i numeri "i" is a difinite article "The", but also we have Gli that works as a definite article (the).
e.g. Gli State Uniti (The United States) i numeri (the numbers) so, both, Gli and i, are The. But how to use them?
"Gli" is for those words that require "lo" (starting with x,y,z, vowel,s+consonant, ps,pn,gn)

For the life of me I can't pronounce the GL sound. GN is easy enough, we have that sound in spanish as well, but GL it's so hard. Kinda sounds to me like the Y or LL sound in spanish, FamiLYA.
Yes, i was about to ask: isn't "GL" kinda similar to the spanish "LL"? I'm an Italian studying Spanish and i think they're pretty similar.
@@eliaallegri9009 Yes, they're pretty similar, but not quite. Digging around the internet i found out that we used to have that sound in spanish, GL was the same as LL, but at some point, we started replacing it with the sound of the Y, it's called yeísmo. I wish we hadn't lost it, I wouldn't be so frustrated right now haha

@@antinotis According to wikipedia, there are, but I'm not sure. I've never heard someone speaking in spanish and pronouncing it like that, never. Maybe in some regions of Spain (?).

“Gli” è quasi uguale al suono del “lh” in portoghese o “ll” in catalano.

Forse sono fortunato, ma non capivo mai perche le persone hanno una problema con la pronuncia le parole in italiano. Non sono esperto, ma da quando ho cominciato imparare, il accento era il mia di piu piccola problema :P

@@thomassiegler9898 Non lo metto in dubbio, ma quanto meno occorrerebbe utilizzare il pronome corretto ed associarlo a un complemento coerente. Resto comunque dell'opinione che sarebbe preferibile evitare la diffusione di usi linguistici scorretti, specialmente laddove come nel caso specifico del raddoppiamento dei dativi non semplificano affatto il discorso ma lo rendono al contrario inutilmente ridondante rispetto a una forma corretta più immediata e lineare.

I would say you put an L before the YEE and then you're there: L-YEE

I don't know if you are speaking slower than normal in your videos, but i am having a hard time understanding the words and trying to follow the subtitles to understand. Could you pause longer so I / we could have a chance to catch up.
I am learning using an app but it is slow going. Listening to your videos is interesting but subtitles go by too fast.

Il suono 'gli' è molto difficile per me. Sono frustrata per questo perché pensavo che parlare spagnolo è un ventaglio per me ma non e così 😭 "Gli' suona come" yi" e come 'lì' per me e non riesco a pronunciarlo correttamente ancora 😩😩😩
Appoggia la punta della lingua alla base dei denti inferiori. Tieni la lingua piatta e rilassata e soffia, senza usare la voce: sentirai dell'aria uscire dai lati della lingua.
A questo punto fai un po'di pressione sul palato con la lingua piatta, ma sempre tenendo la punta sui denti inferiori, e soffia: l'aria uscirà sempre dai lati della lingua, ma con più forza.
Adesso aggiungi la voce, ed ecco che avrai pronunciato correttamente il suono gli.
In spagnolo per 'aglio' pronuncia: 'aLYo'.
Perché non fate di tanto en tanto un podcast con delle persone che hanno imparato a parlare bene la lingua opure altre persone.

Oggi ho fatto un sbaglio. Ho prenduto gli esami grammatica Italiana online. Prima, ho studiato un anni e mezzo. Ma, ho fatto molto male. Molto, molto. Ora, non ho speranza imparare bene e sento così stupido. Ma, forse sto usando "gli" e "gn" correttemente. Magari.
Non è mai troppo tardi per migliorare e riprovarci ;) Basta un po' di esercizio ogni giorno e i risultati arriveranno prima del previsto! Per cominciare, ricordati che il participio passato del verbo prendere non è "prenduto" ma "preso" e in italiano non si dice "prendere un esame" ma "fare un esame" ;)

Senza voler porre un dito nelle tue ferite, fammi correggere il tuo testo:
"Oggi ho fatto un sbaglio" - "lo/uno sbaglio, gli sbagli", come con tutti nomi maschili che iniziano con: s+consonante, x, y, z, ps, pn, gn o un vocale. Quest’ultimo però usa "l/un+apostrofo, ma nel plurale sempre "gli" (l'uomo, un'uomo, gli uomini). Quindi si dice: "Oggi ho fatto uno sbaglio", meglio però: "ho sbagliato".
"Ho prenduto gli esami grammatica Italiana online."
Bene, Antistio ha già menzionato il participio e il fatto, che si dice "fare" anziché "prendere", ma manca anche un "di" nella frase:
"Ho fatto gli esami *di* grammatica italiana (minuscule) online."
"Prima, ho studiato un anni e mezzo." corretto sarebbe:
"Prima di che avevo studiato per un' anno e mezzo."
"Ora, non ho speranza imparare bene e sento così stupido."
"Ora, non ho speranza *di essere in grado per* imparare bene, e *mi* sento
-così- molto stupido."

@@thomassiegler9898 Grazie, Thomas. I'm going to take a guess you read English (Siegler sounds German/Jewish to me). I do keep trying, but it seems beyond me. For example, though I can read your corrections, I don't know how I would ever remember to use something like "di che avevo studiato" instead of "ho studiato" or know when to use "molto" instead of "così." I practice almost every day, but I can't see how it will ever be near enough. But, I appreciate all help, so thanks again.
@@aslkhjbasijt785, "prima di che" is like "before that" and "avevo studiato" is "I have been studying", so past perfect. The exam is over, so it belongs to the past. Before that you've been studying, that's why you use past perfect.
The use of "così" in the context you used it, would reclaim a conclusion:
"Sono così eccitato, che non vedo l'ora di rivederla" "I'm so excited that I can't wait to see her again".
Have you ever been to Italy, by the way?
You should go there and deep dive into the language, having as much conversation as you can, not allowing them to talk to you in English. It's really worth it and you'd enjoy it a lot. Cheers Thomas

In questo caso dovresti dire "Ho molto SONNO" se volevi dire "i'm very sleepy".
"Sogno" significa "Dream" quindi potresti dire tipo "Ho fatto un bel sogno" :)
In this case you should say "Ho molto SONNO" if you wanted to say "i'm very sleepy".
"Sogno" means "Dream" so you could say something like "Ho fatto un bel sogno"

Per me, non é difficile pronunciare "gn", ma "gli" é un veramente incubo.
