Rachel, the honesty about size, measurements, etc is why I started watching you to begin with! I need it to also gauge patterns. When a vlogger doesn't include it I ofter have to ask in the comments and hope they respond. I'm sorry it makes some others uncomfortable. But please continue including it. It's valuable information for me and I'm sure countless other home sewists. Thanks Rachel.

It's really helpful when you and other sewists talk about the sizes they use and the modifications they use to get a better fit. Please carry on telling us. I love your new sundress. It looks great on you. Not clingy at all. I always avoid bias cut dresses and skirts for that reason so maybe a lesson learnt.

That dress looks amazing on you. I am a larger lady but still appreciate hearing about all the measurements because it's given me the confidence to fit for my size and to not keep over sizing and making my clothes too big , so thanks it's helped my sewing so keep doing what your doing

@@KarynKeeley-qw1yd I hate this with knitting too! The patterns assume being larger means needing acres of positive ease. At 41” chest I really don’t want to add 10 inches! 3 or 4 looks fine thank you very much.

I love it when you say how you fit your shape and give the sizes. If people don't want to hear something, they don't have to listen, the rest of us are happy to hear it. Anyway, I love your vlogs. I look forward to Friday sews and anything else you put out.

As for me, I really appreciate when any of you vloggers give us details on how you determine the size you are making. I'm 71 and have sewn all my life, but I still struggle to decide the size of a new garment. I love your slip dress! I'm looking forward to your next vlog!

The reason most of us sew is because we want to achieve clothes that suit and FIT us. I’m a heavy person, with oodles of curves and I love trying to make clothes that make me look well and that fit my shape. You just cant get a lovely fit without a) being aware of your measurements and contours and b) taking the advice and tips of those who do the same. I’m sorry that the person who complained isnt comfortable with you talking about your measurements and size, but I find it a fundamental part of what I look for from your videos. I LOVE the comparisons of body shapes in the Sewl Sisters content and particularly one of the things I appreciate is how great you all look in the same patterns with the diversity of sizes and shapes - its often a revelation. Thanks for caring so much about what we think, but don’t be thrown off by the odd negative comment.

I find it very helpful to hear the sizes and any adjustments that you make. Getting the fit right is the hardest part of sewing and it’s great to see a variety of sewists tackle a pattern.

  • @sajethegirl

I am thumbsing up all the comments saying “YES, please share the size you made and the adjustments and your measurements.”
And I’m adding my voice too. It’s SOOOO helpful to me, a relatively new garment sewist. I NEED to understand the relationship between all those numbers in order to become an even better sewist.
It’s not “talking about weight”, it’s talking about this beautiful craft of sewing. It’s like a painter talking about the dimensions of a canvas and size of paintbrush they’ve used on a project. You’ve never boasted about making a particular size, nor have you spoken in a derogatory way about a size. I’ve only heard you share numbers, never value judgements.
Please don’t change a thing….. except maybe make even more videos! 😍 🤣

Love the slip dress (well, both actually). Please don’t stop talking about fitting, sizing, ease and measurements! This information is so helpful and has saved me untold hours of frustration and potential disappointment. Seeing a finished garment on a real human being and understanding that the person is, for example, tall, or busty, or isn’t otherwise perfectly proportioned (whatever the viewer’s idea of that may be) allows us to evaluate how the garment might fit/look on our bodies and what size and adjustments we might need to make. Our shapes and sizes fluctuate throughout our lives and we need to make adjustments to our patterns and plans that reflect that reality.

I do find it really helpful to know what sizes vloggers make and what adjustments are made etc. Like you said it helps gauge what size we might need to cut out-so definitely helpful (especially if you are a new-ish sewer like me).

Such an interesting vlog Rachel. I personally follow sewists like yourself on RUclips to find out details such as how sizing on patterns worksfor us sewists who definitely come in all shapes and sizes. It is so useful to see how a garment looks on a real person so please carry on doing exactly what you do, details of makes are so important . I also find it helpful when vlogers report on how easy or difficult a garment was to make. I have been caught out a few times making a pattern described as " easy" .......😒 Thanks for all that you do ,and absolutely love your new Tessuti slip dress .

Please keep on mentioning measurements. It is so helpful to have an idea of how patterns fit on real people. Making sure my makes fit me well has helped me to get over the many worries about my shape that have only been fuelled by unrealistic expectations created by the media. People look good at any size but to achieve this, they need to be wearing clothes that fit.

Rachel, your hair looks so good! As a lady who has not been sewing for a while and a “lone” sewer with no local group or friend who likes sewing to advise, I find explanations of measurements and how they have been applied to a particular pattern a godsend! It’s saved me from disaster a few times! It’s so helpful to know if a pattern comes up oversized or even more importantly under! Ruan is another vlogger I find so helpful (and so entertaining!) so - ladies thanks for all your helpful vlogs, andkeep ‘em coming 🐾🐾

Continue as you do Rachel! I love that you and your Northern Sewl lovelies speak openly about your sizes no matter what their current status. If you were uncomfortable doing so then you wouldn’t. If viewers aren’t comfortable then they can choose to scroll on and shouldn’t dictate your course on your channel. That said, if it was meant as a casual observation rather than a mean moan then I guess everyone is entitled to express an opinion … You are looking radiant these days Rachel and always a pleasure to see your posts ❤❤❤

I love it when everyone discusses the sizing, and their body types and how the fit was for them!! Don't stop!! I am a pear, and my waist is 18 inches smaller than my hips-it is such a relief to find someone who has the same fitting issues!! It seems like everyone else I watch are hugely busty-and no hip to speak of-so when they review a pattern it isn't as helpful for me-but don't get me wrong...I want to hear from everyone out there sewing, and their personal experiences with their makes!!
    Thank yo!! :+)

Ah, bless you. I feel for the person who finds the weight/size chat difficult but it is really helpful to understand how you choose your size compared to your body measurements and how it works out. It’s brilliant that you care about your subscribers feelings but you’ll never suit everyone. When your channel is such a personal thing it seems to make sense to do what works for you and people can choose to watch or not. The person who is most open to triggering content is you from all our comments and, sadly, we’ve seen you go through that. Your content is brilliant because you’re so natural so, for me, just keep doing what you’re doing. ❤❤❤

I see the overwhelming vote is to carry on with what you're doing, it's so helpful. If someone is that sensitive about the issue then they'd be advised not to watch and find an alternative channel that doesn't venture near the one topic that real sewists need to know.

As a taller sewer with a waist size bigger than my other sizes (thick set as Ruan says 😂) I find it helpful to see what adjustments you all make when I’m making the same thing. Frankly I don’t know what that person’s issues are with talking about body measurements, but it sounds very much like a deeply rooted issue with their own body confidence and insecurities, rather than anything actually about you ladies. I personally find it really helpful knowing sizes & sizing . I didn’t have a clue about finished garment measurements I just went with my size on the size guide . I learnt all this mainly from you . Thankfully I used this when sewing up the recent Fleur because that dress going just by the size guide is very , very generous & I had to sew up 2 sizes down using the finished garment measurements still with room to spare . I can understand your information on sizing and not necessarily because it’s your actual size so I find it extremely helpful . Thanks Rachel . X x

It's so helpful to know how clothing fits on different sizes. And honest reviews of patterns is a big plus for me. Keep on keeping on Rachel 🙂

That dress looks amazing on you. You have been busy sewing and the blouse and other dress look great too. The colour of the pillowcase fabric will definitely suit your granddaughters hair colour, can’t wait to see your dungaree’s. I find it helpful that you share measurements etc with us as it gives us a fair idea of what we need for sizing. Can’t wait to see your Thea trousers. Have a great week and enjoy your time with your granddaughter.

I find it very helpful for you to tell us sizes and measurements. I'm not a small person. I wear an XXL around size 20-22 in USA in tops. I wear a size 16 in pants... I wish I was smaller, but I'm too lazy to diet and exercise at age 70. If someone complained about you talking about sizes it's because they are not happy with theirs. Just my opinion. Love your channel and the other girls. Keep up the good work. This dress looks great on you and the print is perfect on you. Love the scallop front shorts, wish the pattern was still available. Love all the fabric can't wait to see the makes.

I always appreciate honesty around sharing measurements and sizes, as well as any modifications! It's part of the sewing process so pls keep providing that info for as long as you feel comfortable doing so.
With that said, I think there has been a bit of talk about weight and weight loss generally among the three channels and I think some ppl may be sensitive to that, which I understand. I imagine this person perhaps was grouping together the talk about weight and measurements / sizes. Of course they are connected and also, it's what's been going on in your life so it's hard not to acknowledge or talk about, so it can be tricky, esp when people have their own personal feelings about their own bodies, etc. I don't think any of you are doing anything wrong by sharing your own personal experiences, and I would keep doing what you're doing with the understanding that discussion of weight might be triggering for some folks.

Hi Rachel, great vlog 😊 yes please always continue to talk about the size and adjustments as it really does help. I don't have the same body shape as you, but sometimes the adjustments do relate to me and I do watch vloggers that are of a similar shape to me also so that I have a rounded knowledge as I do make for others occasionally. Thank you for being such a great teacher and inspiration 😊

Hi Rachel. Wow, you are on a destash marathon. I like it when you discuss measurements and what size you picked and why. Among my circle of friends and family, I can't think of one woman who does not change sizes over her lifetime. I also believe fitting is one of the biggest challenges in sewing, and the first important step in that is picking an appropriate size. Add it all up, and I really appreciate your addressing body measurements and sizing and fitting -- thank you for that and all your wonderful vlogs, Antonia

I’m a plus size woman who has avoided sewing because i thought my only option was big 4 patterns. I found out about indy patterns in March 2023 and am loving it. There is no way to sew a well fitting garment without talking about size and measurements. Although I am NO way close to your size I still find your videos (along with other RUclips sewist) very helpful. Please keep them coming 🥰

Where to start! I should make notes! Your slip dress is so pretty, the fit is perfect. Please continue with the measurements. It's very helpful. And congrats on losing weight. You certainly aren't telling anyone they have to do the same. I'm quite envious of your success actually, but also, i find it encouraging. I was just thrift shopping yesterday and bought a cute pillowcase yesterday. It's taken apart, ready to go into the wash, then it will become either little skirts or shorts for the great nieces. I also found a lovely lightweight white linen tablecloth, it will become a long sleeved shirt. And i found a navy and white lining fabric for my navy blazer i hope to make this fall. I think the fabric from the red print skirt would make amazing sleeves using the pattern from the black top, which is so pretty. My oldest granddaughter is almost 19 and i still have fabric i bought to make her outfits when she was little. Unfortunately work and life sometimes get in the way of sewing. Now I'm using those fabrics for the great nieces. Do you wrap your fabric around cardboard before putting it on the shelves?
