Video Description:
If you're iPhone 5's battery will no longer hold a charge, replacing the battery might be a good solution. Thanks to a lot of sellers on Amazon, you can even get the replacement battery for way less than you think (I got mine for $25). After you get your new battery, simply, follow the steps below to replace it.

WARNING EVERYONE! PRY THE BATTERY OUT FROM THE LEFT SIDE OF THE DEVICE! THERE IS A CHIP ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE BATTERY CALLED THE U3 CHIP, BATTERY PRYING FROM THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE BATTERY CAN DAMAGE THE CHIP!!
Happened to me!!! This video sucks!
oh thanks
Buster
thanks
Yeah this video is the reason why mine broke. I mean what the fuck don't put a tutorial up if you're giving people mis-information!
Big thank you from uk, really was good because if I wouldn't have known battery was glued I would have been very apprehensive about forcing it's removal for fear of breaking something.
Wishing you a great 2023 ✔
EVERYOONE PLEASE LISTEN!!!! THE BATTERY MUST BE TAKEN OFF AT THE LEFT SIDE. I DID IT AT THE RIGHT LIKE THIS VIDEO AND NOW MY PHONE IS BROKEN. CAN'T BELIEVE HE DIDNT PUT A DISCLAIMER AND MENTION THIS.
My phone broke too
@@Awesomekid2283 i tried it on the right my phone still works but i hope my phone wont break in the future
Excellent video content! Sorry for butting in, I would love your initial thoughts. Have you researched - Lammywalness Trendy Trade Guide (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now)? It is a great one off product for learning how to recondition batteries at home without the hard work. Ive heard some decent things about it and my cousin at last got amazing success with it.
Perfect. Other videos made it look easy. You explained that it took some elbow grease to get the screen open and then also the battery. I almost gave up trying to get the thing open before watching your vid. Much appreciation!
THANK YOU!!!!! Your video helped guide me replacing my father's battery, which was on its last leg. I purchased a kit from ebay for 13 dollars, and it came with everything necessary. However I would recommend people getting a magnetic screw driver to put the two phillips screws back in...that helped me a ton!
The overall process was painless...except the battery removal. That was tough. You have to be kind of tough with it and I focused on prying open the bottom right of the battery, while working my way toward the middle of the battery (at the bottom). Once that section preyed up, the rest followed seamlessly. I bent the battery itself however the phone was fine. Took me only 15 minutes. I have done many, many Mac upgrades but this was my first iPhone fix.
THANK YOU AGAIN!!!! :)
Just replaced my iPhone 5 battery, using this method. I was very careful not to damage the internals, prying the battery from the left side of the phone (side with buttons) and pulling on the tab, which broke, before I used a hairdryer on the back of the phone to heat up the battery adhesive. All went without a hitch, even with my 2 year old son 'helping'. Having watched other 'instructionals', I can assure people you DO NOT need to remove the screen, as long as you support it at no more than 90 degrees from the iPhone body.
John Medhurst Ha, glad to hear it worked well despite the "help" from your son.
I watched several vids as I progressed through the battery change out, and was stuck on getting the screen to detach from the base. THIS video gave me the hint that I needed to get the case and screen to separate. You can watch some vids that are twice as long, and still be stuck. This one is straight forward and very GOOD. Thanks
Your instructions were great. Worked fine. Tiniest screws in the world, so you need a magnifying light, if you have one (we did). I'm 71 years old, but I did this in 10 minutes. Yay!
Here's a tip on removing the battery. Use dental floss and wedge it underneath the battery on one side. Floss towards the opposite side of the battery and you should be able to separate the battery from the adhesive.
Spot on !! thanks for the video. This was easy with a little instruction. Pry the battery from the left though. It took about 5 minutes to get the screen out and 10 minutes total . The phone powered up no problem!!
+Frank Vadnais welcome!
Typical Apple BS. They have to make everything hard so that the customer has to pay for equipment replacements instead of just simply popping on a new battery. Weasels.
jerryrip and typically, the whole mobile world is copying apple and look at now.. you can't find any phone that has a removable battery.. still you will blame apple lol
Dud when was the last time you saw a phone with a easily removable battery?
@@7homas0wen Any Samsung phone lmao
Jay s5 was the last one. Came out. Like 5 years ago. The note 9 is more difficult to replace the battery or screen compared to a Xs max. I can tell you this having experience replacing them on both phones.
@@7homas0wen stfu he doesn't care if you have had experience
this was brilliant tutorial - im a technophobic but following these instuctions was a doddle and phone worked perfectly - very happy lady!
Just a quick note... I have followed the steps as you said, and after doing it both home and power buttons are not working. It seems that the step in which you take the battery away from the phone, you are forcing it in the right side of the battery which can lead, as in my case, to damage three pins located near the sim card. This pins are the ones in charge of make buttons work, and now I have them damaged. I'm not saying you have to get any responsibility, but for future people checking this video, I encourage you to add a caption stating that forcing the battery to unglue it MUST be done from the left side of it, not the right side...
Helpful but in my case I did that and happened to me. Yeah it won't start.
wtf that just happend to me
Same to me my phone is not working now!!!
Junk
thanks for the tip
h
This video does a better job at showing how to get the screen off than most. Thanks!
Appreciate the video and not knocking it but a lot of these videos make it seem so easy for whatever reason I pretty much did the same thing and the screen of the phone came away from I guess the digitizer not completely but it seems as though the metal backing of the screen is stuck inside of the phone blocking me from getting to the battery and trying to get it off another little screw popped out which is not a screw for the two at the bottom
Solid guide. Had no trouble changing the battery following this.
+M4RTY Thanks!
Answer me please please. If im at 100%, & I start using it, the battery will die in literally 10 min & it gets hot. Do you think thats a battery problem?
Well done mate prying the battery open from the right side as you said managed to fuck up the chips on the iphone damaging both my home and power button. Its mean't to be done from the left side. After reading your comments i see that someone already told you this yet its still wrong in your video. Well done instead of helping people you are just causing them to damage their phones.
You gotta take the sims chip out first
A hint on the suction cup. The one that came with my "kit" from Amazon was totally useless. I used the windshield suction holder from my Garmin and it worked in two seconds.
Lisa Capulet Ha, way to be resourceful on that one!
+Lisa Capulet
Fantastic tip - I'd given up thinking I'd just break the screen. Applied Garmin suction cup as you suggested. Worked straight away!

Thanks for posting this video. Noted about prying the battery out from the left as per comments :)
Hi I replaced the battery with a cheap amazon one and powered the phone up and it's teleported me to some post apocalyptic town and I'm the only person by the looks of it. I've read the instructions that came with the battery and there is no mention of this happening, just wondering if you have any advice? Should I book an appointment with an apple genius?
You mentioned early that you were concerned because the battery was so cheap. Did that have any affect later? or is the battery still good to this day?
This video helped a lot. I wouldn't have known where to start. On this old iphone 5c the battery was stuck to some kind of adhesive.
I used regular kitchen cutlery/eating knife to pry it off and being very careful not to damage the delicate chip and case. I found multiple small pries with the knife and not doing it near the chips and it eventually came off after i finished the job with my fingers but it was also bending and I was mindful of videos where Li-Ion batteries catch fire after being bent. I lifted the remaining adhesive with my fingers. It was like old stuck chewinggum.
New battery snapped in, the connectors are facing down so a gentle nudged and it connected. The phone is charging.
Is factory reset necessary after replacing the battery? Thanks for the video.
Just got my iphone 5 battery today CANT WAIT
Thanks, this helped quite a bit. Took less that 30 min from start to finish. Would've been less but I had the same screw driver issue and I didn't have a back up.
Great info. Question: I'm going to let the local phone shop change mine. Can they access any info on my phone while they have it?
I wondered what that little tiny back thing was after removing the screws from the battery connector hold down. I didn't worry about it but is a necessary foam spacer between the connector and the hold down. Without it my phone continues to loop in reset mode every few minutes and I get no battery level indicator without a power reset. These foam spacers can be purchased for just over $!. I wish I had known this as part of the replacement instructions.
i would like to know which battery replacement should i buy, i mean, which is the best brand, ifixit, or what. thank you
I link to my favorite in the link in the description
I have a suggestion - only do this with the old battery FULLY DISCHARGED. Here is why i say this. In my case there was no plastic tab to remove the battery as it was stuck down, so I was gently trying to pry it out and the battery got mashed in some sensitive spot and the cursed thing almost set my work bench on fire. No joking. An enormous amount of smoke and fire poured out of my old battery in 5-6 seconds. It was unbelievable. I did manage to throw it out the door to the outside and burned the hell out of my finger. WARNING - if your battery does not come out easily you best stop and not try to pry it out. And don't mash these batteries. They are seriously dangerous. Now I need a new $700 phone as the battery completely burned it up.
I am not spamming anything and I only posted one time what happened to me. Maybe you should read the comments on your YT page of how many people have damaged their iPhone by attempting to change the battery. Maybe their iPhone did not catch on fire like mine did but they still ruined their phones prying on the battery that does not lift out with a tab as your video shows. Apparently, the vast majority or IPhone batteries are glued in like mine was and is Not Replaceable by the user as your video states. Your advertisement is misleading and you may be held criminally liable if someone becomes injured or burns their house down per your posted instructions.
+SCHIZOPHRENlC no. He's telling the truth. It even says in the label on the battery itself to not puncture it or it will catch fire. Which is probably what he did.
Wish we could make the apple logo glow on this model like the previous video you posted. Is there any thing with the apperance that can be changed when it comes to the hardware of the newer models?
I notice the original battery was from japan. Where is the replacement made and is it as high quality as the original?
Nice tutorial, sure gave me a hint on how to do this. Tho I saw that you can pull out the old battery with that plastic thingy on the side, and the battery would have just lifted up.
The adhesive cane off with the battery? Is this ok? Will I need new adhesive?
How has the battery worked out? Holding a charge? I too am concerned because of price..
i did it in the instruction , my phone still charging . i just hope it wont break in the future
Great tutorial! Changed my batteries in under 5 minutes. Thanks a lot!
my question to you is once u have placed the battery and than your phone keeps looping in a restart mode how to fix that??? because that is a very common issue once the battery has been replaced.
After replacing my battery, the iphone was "Searching..." but not finding my carrier. Apparently this is due to the system time getting jacked by replacing the battery. I had to go into Settings->General->Date & Time. Toggle Set Automatically off, then on again. Boom! That fixed it. Wireless service restored.
Hey David,
How is the battery life with your new "cheap" battery? I am looking at replacing my battery with a cheap battery but I am also concerned about the battery life of the cheap battery.
Thanks.
The battery was really tough to remove, but I worked hard on it and used a disposable plastic knife to get underneath it and it came out!
Is there a serial # on the battery? If so, does it match the serial # of that specific iPhone?
Awesome video! I figured replacing the battery would be a bigger pain in the ass than this.
Ha so did I when I got started lol Glad I could help!
Thank you, battery replacement worked just as you described it would.
Does removing the battery cause you to loose the memory of the phone?
How was the replacement battery as far as quality and holding a charge (length of time before next charge)? I realize this video is over two years old, but I still have my iPhone 5S (can't afford to replace my phone every time a new one comes out).
thnx man. 5 minutes and all done.
Yeah all the battery are very cheap for some reason when I had my iPhone 4 I accidentally torn the ribbon cable I has to replace the battery. From Experience I recommend you put the ribbon that connects the battery to the circuit board first then place the battery in its place. Be careful if this is your first attempt but trust me it gets really easy
Your instructions were absolutely perfect! Thank you.
Do you need an anti static wristband like you woukd in a computer?
how do i get the connector in? its so bloody difficult everything else went rather smoothly now we're stuck on that tiny little part
Do you HAVE to re-glue the battery? Can I just leave it be in the slot
Are these cheap batteries good or not so good?
the iphone 4 and 4s is a lot easier to do all you do is take the back cover off after the 2 screws are out!!!!
sir can i ask you a favor ? what is the bame of the tools that you have been used? Plsss Answer sir cause I need your help

How did the cheap battery hold up?
do you have to glue the new battery back in??
You quite clearly state in this video that to remove the battery you should pry it out against the right hand side. No, no, no. Thanks to you my home and power button now do not work. Please change or remove your video as you cannot repair the damage caused by this prying action.
same here this idiot broke my phone DO NOT L:ISTEN TO THIS JACKASS
@@glenbrough6866 bruh he is saying everything correctly, you are just an idiot and didnt pull by the plastic tab to remove the glue lol. Dont blame someone else if you messed up
You do these at your own risk
Do you need to glue the new battery back in place?
The process went OK after figured out the tools etc. I bought the $20 set and the tools seem great and there are several other tools for other things. Problem is when powered back on I'm getting an Apple blinking about every 5 seconds. Have it plugged in and hoping this is just a sign of dead battery but after a few minutes not sure if something else? Help?
Oh, the blinking stops and it goes black if unplugged...???
Found the problem. Wouldn't work at all or connect and while trying and failing to restore it noticed the battery box said 5S and I only have a 5. Removed the new battery (this time did take under 2 minutes) and put the old on back in. Was able to then restore it and it works again.
I tried replacing my battery since it's been shutting down at around 20% when i did this i put in the battery tried to turn it on nothing, after wards i tried plugging it in, the phone repeatedly vibrated and itunes actually recognized it and everything. The problem was that the screen wouldnt show any sign. After seeing this i tried changing the battery back the original and everything was the same. Right now im unsure on whether the battery was deffective since it was so cheap or i did something wrong.
Does the APN of the battery matters?
my iphone 5 camera part (upper part) is bloated it's already partly open but you said that by pulling up the screen you should not include the upper part how bout this case?
so what do you do if the screen layers come apart? and i am unable to access the battery?
BEWARE!!!!! *******attention!!!! do not do what this video tells you to do!! there are much better videos that show you a safer way of removing the old battery. if you follow this method you risk damaging your motherboard!!!! BEWARE!!!!****
I did it the way this JACKASS told me and broke my fucking motherboard this idiot is a IDIOT
can i change the battery if i-phone 5 screen is cracked?
What’s the sound was gone after I replace the battery?
Removing the battery I find it more helpful to start on the left. There is one place where the shell has a little dent and there are no sensitive parts to damage there (unlike the right side).
can anyone tell me what size screwdriver i need to get the three screws holding the battery in?
easiest thing i've ever done. cheers
my iphone has a black sceen and wont charge at all i know its nit the screen had it changed recently and would it be the battery tha is broke sas i used a cheap charger?
Changed mine no problem. Thank you.
my battery had water damage so i changed the battery then i screw everything back on then i plug the charger to see if it will turn on then the back started to turn really hot i do not know why please help me out here!!
HI, after battery change my power and home buttons doesn't work i've done everything as you done in the video. And carefully pluged in everything back, everything looks fine but the buttons doesn't work. Do you know any solutions or how much it will cost to fix this problem?
you have been a victim of battery prying damage... search for it. It happened to me too
Damaged U3 chip...
is the battery full after?
awesome - this tutorial helped me through each step! But the screws... so small!!
So I'm having trouble with my iPhone 5 that does not turn on unless it connects to iTunes for recovery mode (Which didn't work). Would changing the battery of my iPhone solve the solution of the Recovery mode stuff?
I bought one on ebay. The seller has good reviews (99.4% positive feedback) hoping i didnt buy a fake ass battery.
How was the battery life on the sub $10 battery?
TheUnlocker can you help me to solve my problem please. I'm charging my iPhone 5 with a cheap charger of my colleague at work and after a few minutes the charger blew up on the wall and turns to black and my work place lights turns to dim. I check my phone and its dead so it's a big mess up and trouble for me and the place I work. the next day I watch your video and order battery online and replace it hoping that it would be solve on that way... but unfortunately... still dead man :( what do you think I should do.. change the mother board or bit and pieces? I'm not expert but I try to sort it out... please help me m8.. thanks!!!
Worked like a charm! Thanks!
Did everything correctly, and carefully, phone now has coloured lines on the screen. The screen went normal again for a second, and then back to the lines. What has happened?
My battery doesn't last that long as it use to so I feel it's time to get a new battery so I don't buy a new phone I had my iPhone 5 for 2 years and it still runs great other than the battery and my question is that if I swap out the battery would it reset my phone n any way or would it get rid of my jaikbreak with iOS 8.1.2
no :)
My iphone5 (A1428) battery is charging but last only 2 hours usage. For a week I was watching that the iphone5 bulging abnormally and slightly bending. I could clearly see the gap between the screen and the bottom widening. I concluded that time has now come to replace the battery. I have necessary tools to pry open the iphone5. I removed the battery today to avert further damage happen to the iphone5. I have ordered the battery for Rs. 600/ (under $10 ) and as soon as getting it I would replace the battery.
Why iPhone battery replacement is so hard and why don't they make it easier by only removing the back cover?
Apple company is making everything so hard to get more and more money from their subscribers.
thanks SIR ,,,,, for providing these kind of video ,, THANK YOU
Bro your experience absolutely right
good clear video , Thanks a lot 👍👍
I did exactly what you did and the iPhone turned on without any problem, I went to sleep when I woke up I when to get my iPhone and it was dead... I tried to charge it but NOTHING
Any suggestions please????
What if you break just a little bit the silver part on the back of the battery and get a little spark.
If i cover that and the battery still works. Something can happened ?
EingeL dont reuse it. The battery may explode especially in high pressure condition.
if you let an iphone without using it or chzrhibg it for maybe 2 years will something happens to the iphone ? i mean maybe a battery failure or explosion ?
why must apple make it so hard why its not like android ?
am dead serious its hard android is just like this (Buy new battery/remove the cover/remove old battery/put the new one) and here you go :D
Cuz apple doesn't give a shit bout u, they only care bout money and no matter how far behind they are with android, sheeps will still buy their products
llamaman true story
it would much more solid in hand when there is no back or cover to come off
I use mine constantly and it runs longer than a lot of the Android devices between charges. For $20, I replaced my battery with a new one in about 8 minutes... what's the problem?
G Savage
but in Android Phones.....10>20s!
Have you had any issues with that cheap battery? I also got one for $18 and not sure about the quality and how safe it actually is putting it in...
is the battery is really original???
I hope I can do that....I need to replace my iphone 5 battery
Nice video but isn't the procedure a bit risky? Chargie is helping phone batteries live longer.
what about the warranty?
Thanks for a realistic video where you struggle with opening the case and getting the battery out. To many of the videos show a guy taking apart an iphone that had been taken apart already and it's just not realistic.
is iphone 5 6 7 and 8 have same battery
Thanks for the instructions!
how did the battery hold up so far?
Do you need to remove simcard
It worked for me, Thank you !!
