Memories. As a 18 year student about to start university in 1995, my first priority was to buy a PlayStation and Ridge Racer haha. I remember the console, game and memory card cost me nearly £400. Coming from a Commodore Amiga, the graphics and gameplay blew me away. I thought it was almost photorealistic at the time haha. Recently, I've just installed FPSe on my Android phone and been playing this on my phone.... it's awesome how technology moves on. Back in 1995 I would have looked at you like you were from another planet if you'd told me I'd one day be playing Ridge Racer on my mobile phone!
@@shellshock10 especially considering everything that £400 could have got you back in 1995. That’s a lot of money and a lot of things. Not even considering what 1995 £400 would convert to in todays money amount.
i got PS1 in 1997 or 1998, it came with this game and I remember putting it into my Sony Walkman CD player for the first time to see what happened(I was about 9). Definitely contributed to my early adoration for electronic music.
+Adrian Combes I only really got into games with the Gameboy and SNES. Needless to say I was a Nintendo fanboy for a while. I *might* have played this in an arcade once. This and Killer Instinct. I remember being so buzzed that *that* was where video games were heading. Now I'm rocking a GTX 970 (1070/80 on the way) and I appreciate every day of it... with the occasional trip back to the classics. Hard to believe there was ever a video game crash.
This and Ridge racer Revolution will forever be 2 of my favorite soundtracks. The energy and nostalgia I tell ya! I remember finally mastering the courses and beating the Black and white scars. I was so proud.
Wow I just must have lost 500 calories shaking my head like crazy listening to track 4 (15:15) in my headphones. Oh shoot I forgot to close the curtains... If anybody saw me from outside he's probably already called the sanitarium.

I have this game for the Playstation 1, the version is the Japanese one from 1994 in the acrylic case. The CD says SLP 0001. Simply beautiful, incredible and absurdly fantastic!
Rare Hero...love it! Through a decent sound system rather than the television it was brilliant. Rotterdamn Nation as well. Of all the driving games across all the systems I've owned this is the standout for me.
This game was THE game for me at the time in the arcades. I have very found memories of seeing the game for the first time around 93/94 in a local arcade, I was only around 8 years old at the time and had never seen any convincing 3d graphics before (only StarWing at the time on the SNES), I was used to Super Mario World and then I was shown this! I'd never seen graphics like it before. They had the game set up in a real madza mx5 where you sat in it with working controls and was being displayed on a cinema screen! I think it just melted my little mind with excitement, and I burned through at least £5 in £1 plays I will never forget that, soundtrack brings back MASSIVE nostalgia...
As I kid I played ridge racer revolution which I think my uncle passed down to me in the early 2000s and played that for years. First time hearing the original ridge racer soundtrack which a lot are the same if not similar
When I played this game I always thought of an awesome race from Corpus Christi, Texas racing through Port Aransas down Mustang Island and back to Corpus Christi which will be 70 miles long for 1 big lap. Racing from the city around the bay with the beach in view.

I really like the evolution of RIDGE RAGER The gameplay but especially The Music I newer thought I would like any other music in the Ridge Racer series than this Rave, dance, techno but my good Ridge Racer Type 4 change my mind very very fast

このゲーム、最初にデータ読み込んだらあとディスク出して他のCDと入れ替えて好きなBGMで遊べたな。
その頃好きだったユーロビートがスピード感があってレースゲームによくあっていた。
数年後、頭文字Dのアニメでユーロビートが流れていて感動したもんだ。同じ思考の方がいるもんだなぁと。
30年ぶりにきいた。
昔乗っていた車で横浜港北方面を流してい頃を思い出した。いい曲だな〜
バンダイに取り込まれてから、こういったBGM含めナムコ色が一掃された気がします。ファミコン時代から単体かつ第一線で残ってるソフトメーカーはカプコン位ですね、寂しい限り。

ポリゴンテクスチャマッピングが使用された初めてのレースゲーム（正しい？）で
当時では画期的に高精彩だったゲーム画面とテクノミュージックの融合が実に素晴らしかった。
なかでも「Rhythm Shift」が一番好きだった。

懐かしい！これがやりたくてプレステ買いました。景色、音楽、レースそっちのけで止まって海を眺めてましたw
1のやつって内蔵音源でなくCDを再生してたから音楽CDプレーヤーで2トラック目から再生できたんだよね。
それをコンパクトカセットに録音してドライブのお供にしてたのは良い思い出。
一度プレイするとデモ画面がリプレイになるとか、隠しカーがあったりと色々と遊び心が満載なゲームでした
近未来都市の中で走る感動もあったし、何よりもこの曲の良さがリッジシリースのいいろことだと思う。

This came out in the year I was born! As early as I can remember, this game was my go to all time favorite game for years.

の一言に尽きる。
ゲーセンでもだいぶプレイしたし、
ネジコン買ってps版も相当プレイした。
当時ベーマガでリッジレーサーのタイムアタックを募集していたけど、
連日プレイしまくって、best record 10位以内の3位くらいには入る位の腕前にはなっていたなぁ。
私も動画投稿(当時はVHSを送る)しようと録画もしていたけど、微妙なタイム更新が続いたりして、
結局投稿するタイミングを逃してしまった。
どうやっても最高速度が高い方がタイムアタックも理論上最も早いので、使うのは常に黒い奴。その分操作がシビアになるけど、
コンマ一秒のネジを切るタイミングと、微妙なタイミングのずれとタイヤの滑り具合のずれを逆ハンで調整する。
大きくタイミングがずれたらもうおしまいだけど、微妙なずれなら1/100秒も変わらないから、調整しながらタイムアタックに挑戦していたなぁ。
よくそんな根性があったよ。昔の私は。
ベーマガでbest5には入っていたから、日本国内でbest10には入る腕前だった。と勝手に思ってるw
でも、それだけ継続してプレイできたのも、この軽快で飽きの来ない秀逸なbgmのせいも絶対あったと思う。ありがとう

世界初。か判らないけど、多分世界初の
家庭用ゲーム機で、ポリゴンにtextureを張り付けたゲーム。
技術でも最先端で、psの存在と技術を世界中に知らしめた記念すべきゲームで、
新しい時代の幕開けの一つだと思う。
簡単にドリフトが出来ることに特化して作ったので、
リアリティは弱いけど、爽快感は当時世界一と言っても良いと思う。
そしてやはりこの音楽。
一風変わった作り方で、一見変な音楽なんだけど、
納豆にご飯が合うような感じで、ゲームとしての爽快感と興奮を高める為に
作られた音楽で芸術作品の一つだと思う。
