This is a moment where music and game design come together in perfect harmony. Absolutely stunning soundtrack and arguably one of the best videogame soundtracks ever.
another moment like this, if you’re so inclined… the Ace Combat 3: Electrosphere soundtrack - it’s not as highbeat as this, but damn if it doesn’t fit the game perfectly!
It's 2018 and I still feel the most wonderful nostalgia hearing this. Good old times: you only had to turn on the PS1 and play. No DLC, no profiles, no internet. Not that these things are bad, but I think they transformed gaming into something complicated. I just miss the simpleness of that age.
how empty and focused your mind was as a kid, playing this videogame fully immersed without a single distraction, no internet/social media/ societal expectations, just you , a tv screen and joy
I never realised just how much effort Namco pit into the soundtrack for this game until now. I remember the Ridge Racer series having a good soundtrack but not this good. Just goes to show how much a good soundtrack is underappreciated when a kid.
The PS1 was my first console and this game was one of the first racing games I played. Man, this music... Still listening in 2019. Here's for many more years.
It's still really nice in 2023 :) If you know about electronic music producing a little, you should understand how awesome these artists have done 25 years ago. Analogue synthesizers, drum machines, hand played basslines, hardware samplers and vocal clips etc.
One of the best video game soundtracks of all time. Suits the overall game design perfectly, and listening to it separately, it not only conjures imagery and memories of RR4, but of many other games from that era. Truly a definitive soundtrack on the PlayStation 1.
Exceptional Soundtrack. Don't think i realised quite the Musicality and Production in these tracks when i was a child. Good thing i remembered this game earlier today and checked this out.
Excellent racer, man i spent hour upon hour playing this game back in the day, beating it with each team and watching their story unfold. honstly ive never been a huge racing game fan, but i still loved this game to death, something about it made it so fun to play. No doubt the music was definitely part of what made it so special.
God, I swear to y'all, this game and these music such did moved me alot back in the early '00s. *sighs* This game SURE did bring back memories to my childhood. I know eveyone who have or played this sure would say the same thing.
I loved this soundtrack back then growing up, and the game. This will always be close to my heart since I was in high school also and I used to invite friends over to play splitscreen. I still play it to this day
hell yes damm awesome game soundtrack, i love ridge racer type 4. magic music, and one fucking awesome ps1 racing game. still have this game today a huge favourite of mine.
A game ahead of its time! 1998-1999 were great years... (I can see some similarity between R4 music and Ace Combat 3 electrosphere soundtrack and found out pretty much the composers were the same)
I remember buying the cd import on eBay in like 03, it was a double disc set. I still own that $hit! Silhovette dance or lucid rhythms are the best songs hand down.
Loved this soundtrack. It fits the game so perfectly and it is also nice to keep in the background if one is doing some activity. The last track that played during the final stage is still an earworm to this day, I remembered it clearly even before listening to it again here.
played this game again yesterday and finished the gp with terrazi... coming to the point it was a huge step from earlier titles like ridge racer revolution to type 4 and the soundtrack was one big aspect to create this very captivating atmosphere of rr type 4! thanks for sharing it...
Blasting this OST in one tab while watching the 1998 All Japan GT Championship in another is quite the vibe. Has it been... 25 years?!? Oyaji desu ne...
Always love in-game OST because it's longer than the Direct Audio album OST. The Objective is definitely my #1 favourite. That feeling when racing against Terrazi Utopia while playing that tune is priceless. ❤️
The nostalgia flows through my hair, lucid rhythms got this silhouette dance parading in my pearl blue soul, but the quiet curves always move me while this revlimit funk is just part of my motor species; the naked glow in my eyes signifies the objective in my mind and I'm burnin' rubber as I move right thru in the ride of my life. For you this might be garage talk, but for those who can feel my vibe, they understand these are the precious urban fragments of a time I wish to go back to like movin' in circles, but I guess I have to turn the page since I'm ready to roll. There is no epilogue now, there's just one more win!
OMG I finally found you my old old friend. RIP Renay, You and I had good times jamming on my playstation. And this you can regard as Deep house not game music.
This sojndtrack, along with the Motorhead (Racing game) soundtrack are the best ever!!! Thats for the vid, man. Brings a lot of memories, as we remember when life was a little easier. And the games were harder, haha
Spot on and is one of the reasons why i didn't buy the retail version. For example, the in game version of Pearl Blue Soul is just over 6min whereas the retail version has been cut down to 3:25min. They probably did it to cut costs.
I have memories of playing this as a kid and enjoying the music. Of course back then I didn't really care about it, didn't really think about it. But one thing is clear, I always enjoyed playing with these relaxing songs in the background.
A very small amount. Even then they get outcast by shitty fucking artist's Like Justin bieber, Lil Wayne, One Direction, and majority of the Pop/Rap Artists out there. And the fact now you can create a song out of anything... Trow in some lyrics that is bad or off of the subject you are talking about, needs a generic catchy beat to it and BOOM! Hit for about, 2 weeks on the radio. What the fuck happen to, Oh, I don't know... EFFORT? HEART? SENSE? This is coming from a kid that was born in 1999... I wish I was born in the late 80's or early 90's. This generation for the music media and video game(s) media are the fucking worse right now. I don't see this shit gets any better as of now...
Um yes music today is worse than before but pop has nothing to do with Acid Jazz. To OP: I don't really know about stuff nowadays but I love Global Communication and Herbert personally. Their house stuff in the 90s are really fabulous. Give 76:14 and Around the House a listen!
Yes, yes, yes! This was a bomb fire soundtrack back then and it remains so. Who the hell was the producer/writer for this thing!? I've always wondered. Does anyone know? So many memories, the game was dope and the OST totally sealed it.
I loved the big change in the soundtrack from RR 1-2-3 the Techno is replaced by bitch relaxing, ambient / soul, soft pop/rock and it fits the game even better, but I really liked the techno of the first 3 installments too, RR is born with techno dance, dont we ever forget that A Shane this didnt came as an arcade
I know what you mean. The gabber Techno would work better now as we has faster pace, 60/120fps frame rates. I am not sure if it would blend well with normal racing games. Somthing crazy and radical would hit the spot.
RR Type 4 and Street Fighter 3 are my favorite video game soundtracks. Other games games have one or two pieces of music but these two are amazing from top to bottom
This is a moment where music and game design come together in perfect harmony. Absolutely stunning soundtrack and arguably one of the best videogame soundtracks ever.
Agreed.
another moment like this, if you’re so inclined… the Ace Combat 3: Electrosphere soundtrack - it’s not as highbeat as this, but damn if it doesn’t fit the game perfectly!
Top 3 PS1 Racing games

SassPD22 All three are the best racing games on the PS1.
But you listed 1 game 3 times. What about Crash Team Racing?
It's 2018 and I still feel the most wonderful nostalgia hearing this. Good old times: you only had to turn on the PS1 and play. No DLC, no profiles, no internet. Not that these things are bad, but I think they transformed gaming into something complicated. I just miss the simpleness of that age.
Even after all this years you can still feel the warmth and sophistication of the sound.... a game way ahead of its time. :)
PS1 had some games with outstanding music ! :O

Gray Fox indeed!! =D
This is the best Ridge Racer
Agreed
Easily. It's a shame Namco didn't follow up on this formula. They struck gold with this one.
i always remember the fireworks, race of of 1999 to millenium
That fireworks + Move Me = Perfect race.
@@FAT8893ITS REAL RACING ROOTS 99!

@@guopeneferozz Just like the Halo and Ace Combat soundtracks. Absolutely changed my interests in life toward art.
The PS1 was my first console and this game was one of the first racing games I played. Man, this music... Still listening in 2019. Here's for many more years.
The same for me, PS1 is also my first console. Still playing R4 today via ePSXe emulator on both my Windows PC and Android phone.
Good times do not come back, this game will stay forever in my heart.
It's still really nice in 2023 :) If you know about electronic music producing a little, you should understand how awesome these artists have done 25 years ago. Analogue synthesizers, drum machines, hand played basslines, hardware samplers and vocal clips etc.
You have a new car, ready to go!
If any EDM artist released these songs today he would get mad ratings still
So true mate.
Fuck me, what an absolute porn tune! awesome track.
I'm all grown up, at work, but listening to this song reminds me of my childhood - and ups my productivity!!! Daym!! :)

totally agree, never has a racing game been more enthralling and addictive. The stories of each team really cut deep in my skin as a child.

Yeah, when I was 4, my sister received a PS1 on Christmas... We played this every day and every night... Oh my God, how many memories...
MrMultiFrodo I was about 12 when I played this game... I played it constantly.
I hate to be a grammar guy but I think you meant ‘move me.’
I hope you get the joke or I’ll look like a jerk.
I loved this soundtrack back then growing up, and the game. This will always be close to my heart since I was in high school also and I used to invite friends over to play splitscreen. I still play it to this day
damn i did not appreciate it enough back then

Speed. Sophistication. Travelling. Blue skies. Modern architecture. That's what racing games used to be about.
@DEDLI Microtransactions.
Best game OST of all time :)
***** Great Minds think alike :)
no,best racing game ost :)
cause there are a lot of ost which are mind blowing
I remember an option in the game to just listen to the sound track. I did this more than playing the game. Miss my PS1 😢
My favorite is silhouette dance, jungle/dnb at its finest!
I remember buying the cd import on eBay in like 03, it was a double disc set. I still own that $hit! Silhovette dance or lucid rhythms are the best songs hand down.

+Elaborate Press lucky git!!!
I wish they would re-release this game, absolute beauty
R4 has some of the best songs. On both of Ridge Racer PSP games, those songs are in also.
This is by far the best Ridge Racer of all time!
So much awesome contained within one single game!
tekken 3 same story
Revlimit Funk and Motor Species are a hell of beasts.
Blasting this OST in one tab while watching the 1998 All Japan GT Championship in another is quite the vibe. Has it been... 25 years?!? Oyaji desu ne...
2019 and still one of the best video game soundtrack of all time
This brings back memories.. Explains why I like Flying Lotus so much.
OK. Kinda realized the same thing :)
Those special background sounds are amazing.
Always love in-game OST because it's longer than the Direct Audio album OST.
The Objective is definitely my #1 favourite. That feeling when racing against Terrazi Utopia while playing that tune is priceless. ❤️
A decade after upload and this is still one of my fave soundtracks. The game looked and sounded great too for being on the PS1 :o
Poetry based off the music titles... cool
OMG I finally found you my old old friend. RIP Renay, You and I had good times jamming on my playstation.

Think Move Me is my fave track... So smooth
Amo questo gioco!! Colonna sono fantastica, gameplay perfettom la storia dei 4 team sono fottutamente commuoventi ....bei ricordi... W RRR99!!!!!!!

There is not a single bad note in this soundtrack. It is absolutely perfect.
Memorized this soundtrack, playing for hours... Finally had to get my own mix... Any track...Billy Idols White Wedding works well

Lucid Rythms! Was my lucky song back in the days xD Thanks for the upload!
This music really sounds magic. Why did this stop? Did all PS musicians died or something?
Melhor Trilha Sonora de Todos os Jogos tanto de Ps1 como Ps2 e Ps3
concordo
finalmente um br aqui.
naked glow all day everyday
Gotta take a ride in Japan sometime during evening/nighttime with this running on the stereo.
The whole soundtrack sounds like music you'd hear from a bar/clothing store/TV show/radio station etc in Japan
"Movin' In Circles" is still echoing in my head time to time. It's almost 20 years.
Spot on and is one of the reasons why i didn't buy the retail version. For example, the in game version of Pearl Blue Soul is just over 6min whereas the retail version has been cut down to 3:25min.
They probably did it to cut costs.
Best video game soundtrack ever in my opinion. First played this game back in 1999 when I was a little kid. Good fucking times.
Pearl Blue Soul rinsed this out, trust me!!!!
My fav is the vibe with the synth middle part.
I'm so glad I grew up in the 90's, those were the best times!
Movin in circles got me pumped on that last race always
55:00 Reminds me of Ps1 Start up intro!

This is when the cd playing capabilities of my psone came in handy. Awesome music!
Discoverd this game 1 week ago, soooo gooood
El sountrack post colegio directo a dar vuelta una y otra vez este juegazo. Genial el soundtrack
Thanks so much for uploading this!
I love Naked Glow!
That's cool.
the story of that game is soamazing. I loved the way each team had their own story and driving style. Never got the 200 different cars though :p
I`ve been searching for the 6 first minutes of this song for too long. Finally found it! Fucking QUALITY music this shit ❤️

Yeah so since your question didn't actually get answered. You should take a look at Mr. Bill
Um yes music today is worse than before but pop has nothing to do with Acid Jazz.
To OP: I don't really know about stuff nowadays but I love Global Communication and Herbert personally. Their house stuff in the 90s are really fabulous. Give 76:14 and Around the House a listen!
Alice Cheung But really, I would take Acid Jazz anytime of day over some shitty Pop music like "Baby" Or "Stupid Ho."
Listen to Travelling Without Moving - Jamiroquai similar bassline, and also a song about cars :-)
Damn. The beats are so sick.
Secondo me la colonna sonora più bella di tutti i tempi per un videogioco.
Yes, yes, yes! This was a bomb fire soundtrack back then and it remains so. Who the hell was the producer/writer for this thing!? I've always wondered. Does anyone know?
So many memories, the game was dope and the OST totally sealed it.
PS2 sound ?
good job namco !
Forgot how good this soundtrack was. Awesome.
Awesome tunes, now play GTR2 driving open practice with this playing, just like the good ol days : )
Thumbs up if you're still listening to this in 2016
+NZO MV Til the day I die.
+Yusuf Joseph I second that :)

I wish GT sport had this kind of OST
best racing game ost ever made
hands down
One of the greatest game soundtracks ever!
I loved the big change in the soundtrack from RR 1-2-3
