With the return of The Mandalorian season 2 to Disney+, I felt it was about time to also return to a Star Wars theory. In a previous theory, I talked about how the Jedi could be construed as an 'evil' order. Today, I'm taking that kind of idea and flipping it to talk about the Empire itself! I think The Mandalorian provides us with even more clues that the Empire may not be as wrong in it's philosophy as we thought! How? Why? Well Theorists, make sure you Baby Yoda is somewhere safe because this is about to take a turn to the dark side...

Reminds me of a quote from Genghis Khan:
"Conquering the world on horseback is easy, it is dismounting and governing it that is difficult"
Also Hamilton the musical said wining is easy governing is harder
True that was what happened to gengesh Khan empire
What were your thoughts on Season 2 Episode 7?
The empire is like the russian federation of today and putin is seen as the ultimate leader and tsar.if you don,t believe me just look at palpatine and putin more properly, both are trying their best to bring order and peace to the galaxy and russia which the jedi,s and western leader never wanted.they are only interested in collecting resources from weak and helpless people and alien for their own personal gain and nothing else.so when the empire was fallen the native alien of their planets were being robbed, hunted, raped, murdered and their resources taken from them and that,s why the first order was form to try to bring order and peace to the galaxy by removing the republic who are the real monsters and not the first order
Counter argument; ghengis just sucked at governing and basically just delegated everything to his children and generals

Fun fact, Alderaan had an extremely powerful private military, that if it had survived, would have been a huge thorn in the empires side.
Alderaan was also separatist. Granted, that could just be a 51% attack on every other political view on the planet, but at least 51% of the people voted in a separatist government and were not innocent in the Empire's eyes.
Also, Alderaan had a small population, Obi-Wan only says that "millions of voices" were silenced. It depends on how you're counting, but earth currently has billions of inhabitants.
@@dafoexI don't remember which episode but Cara dune mentiones a number when talking to the Chinese pilot guy.

In season two, mayfield says something along the lines of “It doesn’t matter who rules to these people. Empire, republic, they’re all just people taking over their homes”
Man i love that episode so much mayfield in season 2 was so good
Also Mayfield in this episode: Remembers Operation Cinder and just shoots an imperial for beeing pure evil
yes thankyou for mentioning this
It's true. Colonized countries don't care who's ruling them bad guys or good guys they just see them as invaders taking their stuff
@@edgemaxxer1573 Don't care? No wonder they don't have spines enough to defend their stuff in the first place. That's their first mistake, right there.
About alderann, palpatine got pretty mad when it blew up, he said that tarkin was lucky he died on the death star, I wonder what palpatine was planning on doing to tarkin if he survived
Also, alderaan had a very low population and yes, some were innocent but it was also a military target that was hosting, funding, and leading a violent rebellion. The USA nuked two entire manufacturing cities in WW2, firebombed helpless puppet countries, invaded the Middle East for decades, etc. All in the name of peace and order to minimize the loss of life. So "millions of voices silenced" on alderaan seems like the price to save an entire galaxy from further violence.

He gave an option, like he did to Obi-Wan. A censored plot is, he also gave an option to the Jedi Younglings. See My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic's "School Raze".
About the empire and the ewoks, I'm not sure about current canon, but in legends the ewoks and the empire were certainly not on good terms by the time the rebels got there. This one elderly ex-stormtrooper even recounts the events like a survival horror story, slowly losing more and more members of his platoon to the dreaded ewoks. In the end when he was captured, he begged for the rebels to take him instead of leaving him to the ewoks.
Yeah. They sorta ate them alivr and hjng them. Not "friendly"
Well that might explain why the stormtroopers were leaving them alone. They wanted no part of that.
I think that Ex Stormtrooper musta played too much Ewok Hunt
This is true. Ewoks were known to eat sapient beings.
They did want to cook the rebels when they first met. They probably just wanted to have chicken again.

I think I also read somewhere that while jedi aren't allowed to have connections or communicate to friends of family after they have been "taken in for training", stormtroopers of the empire only aren't allowed to communicate to others when they are in the death star because it has to stay hidden.
I mean. The difference is that one is a military organization, the other is a religious one.
Also, Anakin went and visited his mother, remember? While the jedi teach detachment, they clearly do not force it and nobody is prohibited from leaving the order for good if they want. Anakin and his mom both wanted him to become a jedi.
@@ALookIntoTheEulenspiegel yeah, he wasnt allowed to, he was meant to stay on Naboo
@@loafstudios8811
He was supposed to stay on Naboo, because that was his assignment. That doesn't necessarily mean that he was forbidden from visiting his family, though. Granted, it certainly looks that way, but I don't think they ever explicitly mentioned it in any piece of media that's canon.
Yeah, I mean Gary even has a daughter that he brings to work with him sometimes.
When the client says the Empire improves every system it touches, he's not wrong. Just doesn't state who benefits from it. I wouldn't say Mimban, Kashyyyk, Lothal, Mustafar,
Geonosis, Ryloth, Mon Cala, or Mandalore where improved by the Empire so much as they improved the Empire of the backs of the inhabitants.
The Empire itself benefits, just not the locals.
What about Coruscant.
Don't forget Illum, Kamino, MonCala, Mandalore, Dantooine, Tattooine.Basically ever planet they've touched. And the fact that the Empire would send scouts looking for any force sensitive child they could to corrupt them to the Dark Side.
Sorry this theory still doesn't hold too much water. But hey its from a certain point of view.
@@bowenjudd1028 There isn't enough content from either Canon or Legends to see how the day to day for the typical Coruscant citizen post Clone Wars/Pre-Endor, though I would imagine it'd still be the same as it was before the Empire for anyone living in the lower levels. AKA Still pretty crappy.
Any "good" the Empire brought to a system was only for the best interest of the Empire itself. whether or nor the locals benefited from that was of little interest to the Empire.

If you’ve read the book “lost stars” it shows multiple planets exploited for all its resources, entire species put into slavery and a complete disregard for all life including their own officers while the galaxy was under imperial rule.
There's zero cohesiveness in expanded universe content honestly. One author can be brainwashed by the movie's with the propaganda that the empire is this evil malevolent force. So they'll write their stories as such. The other author can see the movies for what they are and pay more attention to create consistent narratives. I can see why Disney wanted to just throw it all out into the trash even though I completely disagree with how they did it.
@@Stiksta That's the thing. From just the movies, as it should be, he made this theory, and it fits. Not saying comics and all that shouldn't exist, but from the context of the movies all of them, Lucas, "modern Lucas" and Disney did a shitty job portraying the empire as being pure evil (in terms of how this video was able to put the theory) except for the Tarkin speech or wathever, pretty much everything was just from the movies. Long story short, my point is he has a valid point for this theory saying the good guys are the one you see thru certain point of view.

Bro palpatine is just chillin in a chair, he doesn't has a luxurious life

Something that wasn't mentioned that is actually integral: the second Death Star was purposely made to look unfinished to trick the rebels. When the battle of endor happened the second Death Star was in fact finished, which is why they had to disable the shield and why Sidious was present in the battle station
Not finished, but the majority of its systems were online. They just delayed the completion of the superstructure in order to complete the trap.
It was planned to be finished later on.
@@AzraelThanatos yeah the weapons were what weren’t supposed to be finished but they ended up being “fully operational” the station itself wasn’t done
palpatine did have a fleet of star destroyers jump in later...
and he had tons of imperial forces capturing the rebel ground team...
and he also did seem to know the rebels were going to comme attack the death star
@@gangzhu9932 Exactly. So he lured them him tricking them into thinking the death star was still being constructed
This makes literally zero since if you remember HOW they destroyed the second Death Star. They literally went INSIDE an exhaust port that brought them to the core. You would think that if the station was actually finished or if it was made to LOOK like it was unfinished that they would at least remove the problem that destroyed the first Death Star. But no they didn’t, which indicates that it WASN’T finished.
Plus do you seriously expect me to believe that they likely would’ve finished the Death Star when the first one took 19 years to build, and that one was significantly smaller than the second one???
You should do a theory on how much the imperial credits are worth.
That’s be nice
Oooh... I'd totally watch that!

I don’t see a problem
They had slavery under the republic too. Maybe not institutionalized slavery, but so widespread that nothing was really done about it.
And that's ignoring Droids which I would argue is slavery too.
Really what needs to be explored was how the CIS were the good guys in the prequel trilogy.
Also, most of the stormtroopers were relatively harmless, just doing their duty as soldiers. They’re either normal conscripted people from the Galaxy, or clones that are loyal to the empire’s cause of social order. It’s not like they’re hostile in every encounter, like pointed out with the Ewoks or how they are on Lothal in Rebels.
Yes, Stormtroopers would never do horrible things like... you know....
Murdering an entire sand crawler of jawas because they *might* have seen something.
Or burning an elderly farmer couple alive for the same reason.
You know, if you ignore all the war crimes stormtroopers do, they are basically harmless, it's true.
@@ALookIntoTheEulenspiegelHe said most. "I was just following orders" never stopped being an excuse even in our amazing democracy and unfortunately as the video stated we need boots on the ground to keep people safe otherwise they fall victim to violent crime even more
@@BookDefender777 The point is that it doesn't matter if they are not murdering civilians *every* day, what matters is that they are all going to do it, when ordered to. And they will be, because the Empire is as evil as it gets.
"We need the stormtroopers" makes no sense, because Tattooine was still a hive of scum and villainy even with, and probably especially, with the Empire there, because they did nothing to stop crime lords like Jabba, while burning civilians alive the moment they *might* become a problem.
Tattooine looked way nicer in the prequels before the Empire took over, in fact.
@@ALookIntoTheEulenspiegel That’s not what the video said. Did you even watch it? You get any authoritarian party going on the offensive and you’ll find they end up committing some atrocities The Rebels included.
They’re not conscripted. In fact, if I remember correctly the Empire never used conscription.
I find it hilarious that people "discover" that there are problems with the republic and the Jedi order in the prequels, when that was literally the point of the prequels.
I think it's because people irrationally hated the prequels and didn't pay attention, or they only watched them as kids and didn't pick up on all the details until they rewatch them now
It's even there in the original trilogy: Luke had to turn against the advice of his Jedi mentors in order to face his father and defeat the Sith.
And how even worse people who don't care about others, can use these relatively minor problems to create scapegoats for their own agenda.
@@eyesofthecervino3366 It's a bit more nuanced then that. Since the first time he did that he was defeated and just got in the way of his friends saving Han.
The message seems to be that your motives matter just as much as your actions. He wanted to save them because of how their pain affected him and ended badly. Luke wanted to save his father for his sake not his own and it worked out.
In comparison. While Anakin wanted to save his loved ones as well he motives and actions where just so selfish and terrible it resulted in disaster. For the galaxy as well as himself.
Yes, but the point of the prequels is that stagnating to a status quo of capitalism and ignoring the constant political and economic problems it creates and not moving forward to a better system when your technological advancement allows you to do so creates the conflicts that allow for fascism to take over.
The best way to describe the prequels is "why socialists criticize centrist liberals: the trilogy"

Star wars is a war. No different from real life, there's no good guys or bad guys, there is only 2 sides fighting for control of something
@@rosealynn learning history i found that most people were colonisers to someone and the people usually fighting for their freedome are often elites that want to return to their ruling privileges. More often than not that fight for freedome ends in a worse situation than the one before ( see the soviet union & co). Even the Nazis, who were the closest we have to a truly evil regime, saw themselves as a victim and their fight to be righteous and to a degree they were right. The treaty of versailes, the occupation of the rhineland and parts of eastern germany, the marginalisation of germans in said regions and the threat that the soviet union posed to europe were all very real.

Hello there (;
(Republic) Anakin: was a slave with his mother, and is regularly being put in danger for the sake of gambling. His planet is run by crime syndicates. The republics dollar is so weak you couldn’t even use it to buy basic things. Has no real option off the planet or for a better life, except for the fact he is a Jedi.
(New Republic) Rey: spends her entire life saving up enough money to buy a single ticket off Jakku. Lives in a tent and eats bread almost exclusively. Has no public services, must know how to defend herself at all times, and must carry a weapon at all times. No real option off her planet, except that she is stumbled upon by a resistance fighter.
(Empire) Luke: Works on a farm with his family most of the time. Works part time in the city and is able to afford a speeder and, should he reach into his savings, a ticket off his planet whenever he needs. Organized crime is present on the planet, but isn’t nearly as omnipresent like with Anakin. Slavery is non existent in the average Tatooinian small business. (A solid improvement over Anakin) He has multiple options to get off the planet, such as saving up for a ticket and getting a job off planet, joining the Stormtrooper corps, joining or the Imperial Navy.
I don't want to be that person but its Rey instead of Ray
I'm surprised he didn't mention that, those are really good valid points.
Did the New Republic even own Jakku? They straight up let Kylo Ren's star destroyer hover over it and deploy troops lol.
@@nch2004 they ran the whole galaxy except for the unknown regions, where the first order was hiding out. They had a very off hands approach to running things. Basically each planet is on their own and can police themselves however they see fit, so long as they aren’t policing too hard, where the feds step in and shut it down. If you get a poorer planet (like 90% of planets outside the core worlds) they have too little resources to do anything or really have a government at all. The galactic navy was basically non-existent. The federal government was basically non-existent outside the core worlds. And even then, barely. My support for the empire is mostly a joke, but the new republic is actually the worst. Also the republic is basically imperialist.
Luke was actually brought there by Obi Wan, and yes, there was crime on Tatooine too, Jabba the Hutt ruled it. So they are not doing so well with their task, all that the Empire did was to replace one evil with another. Workers and engineers in the game of the last Jedi noted that during the Republic they were doing much better, keep in mind that the Empire / Republic had tens of millions of planets. The empire simply drove away the small bandits, and legalized slavery, began to cooperate with a major criminal sinicat. The empire is good only in management, but not in ensuring the lives of people and security. I'm not saying that they used the xenos as slaves.
In general, democracy in the Far Galaxy is rather primitive

I watched the prequel for the first time a couple days ago and I couldn’t stop thinking about how anakin and emperor Palpatine we’re a textbook pairing of NPD (narcissistic personality disorder, Palpatine) and BPD. It’s cool to hear that someone officially came out and gave a anakin the bpd diagnosis because I was like this is a near textbook example of how narcissistic grooming and bpd often coincide. I wonder if the author did it on purpose or accident. Had Palpatine not groomed anakin since the day he met him, he would have turned out a lot different. As well as if the Jedi hadn’t constantly trivialized anakins emotions and experiences, they really Villianized him for existing which put him in a position that allowed the empower to swoop in. It was so hard to watch because bpd is such a stigmatized and misunderstood disorder, it’s hard to look at someone like anakin and recognize that he was really a victim since childhood as well as a villain.

I saw this video called “Th Empire Was Right” and the guy showed the clip telling us that the senate was disbanded and power would be given to the local governor’s and that Alderaan was a suspected rebel planet and only had a population of about 2 million, which Obi Wan Kenobi confirmed.
@@reubenm.d.5218 close, but not quite... Krennic also wanted ONLY the Death Star, no other projects. Even without the corruption problem, just the bureaucratic and logistical issues with a nation of that scale probably make which one was better a moot point; NO nation that large can function well. Realistically, even a nation of an entire single planet cant function very well, much less an entire star system.
Under the Old Republic, Naboo, which was a system so important that it had a Senate seat, only had a small starfighter corps and some royal militia as their defense force, and they had to pay for that out of pocket. Under the Empire, Tatooine, a planet so insignificant that Luke describes it as the planet that's the farthest from the center of civilization, had two Imperial-Class Star Destroyers and a large Stormtrooper garrison protecting it. Under the Republic, a crime lord like Jabba the Hutt practically ruled like a sovereign over Tatooine, but under the Empire, he can't walk around outside without a group of bounty hunters protecting him, lest the local Imperials decide to pick him up for "questioning". It goes to show the difference of how secure you can be under the Empire, as opposed to the Old Republic.
THIS. 100%. The Empire - the legitimate government of the wider galaxy - unlike its predecessor does not abandon its People. It establishes the rule of law without exception no matter where you live. The people of the Outer Rim now have free trade, the rule of law enforced by the Imperial Military, the Imperial Academies, an Imperial policing presence that means the criminal and the corrupt can no longer prey on the People. The gangsters can no longer operate with impunity. Slavery is no longer practised brazenly on Tatooine. The Imperials also establish a Sound galactic currency (the Imperial Credit) that is universally accepted currency galaxy wide. No doubt backed by a set number of Twilek females for good measure.
@@darkjediknight2923 Exactly. The leaders of the Rebels are the same senatorial aristocrats who had little problem with corporate armies and Outer Rim slavery, and they were mad because the Emperor took away their toys.
@@HolyknightVader999 Very true. They were perfectly content for years to allow slavery to be practised in the open ("The Republic doesn't exist out here. We must fend for ourselves"), for the gangsters to rein free and act brazenly in the open, for levels of corruption beyond imagination, to live lavish lifestyles and hold endless debates going nowhere whilst the galaxy suffered, and indeed for an innocent Naboo system to be subject to an occupation by a Corporation! A corporation that they had no problem with holding a seat in the august Senate itself despite not being an elected representative of a galactic world! The Emperor was not a perfect being by any means - he might have brought his personal issues with the Jedi into the policy agenda too much, he might have had a soft spot for certain Moffs and big statement policies versus the Vader style meritocracy, but one thing you have to give him is he stood up to corruption, he served the People as their legitimate leader and he made it a top priority to bring Galactic Law to the entire galaxy without exception.

The nogiri have almost identical situation and Vader legit saves as much if the species as humanly possible
Tarkin was written after Disney took over, it's not legends, it's canon.
Matpat: "when talking to Luke, Vader didn't say anything about power or control"
Vader: "Together we can RULE THE GALAXY AS FATHER AND SON!"

Also Matpat: completely believes the word of the literal Grand Moff of the Empire, one of the most powerful people in the galaxy
why lie about how the world was before the empire was? if anything at least that part would be good evidence that the place was complete chaos.
@@retosius7962 Plus it was shown in the Clone Wars that he like Anakin used to be a Republic man, until the system also seemed to force his hand in war to make moves he disagreed on and that in his opinion risked more lives. Anakin and him saw eye to eye in this regard during the war. Something about the way the senate directed them just didnt sit right with him. He is a witness of both systems.
@@levrawonline IIRC The Tarkin Doctrine/his extreme views came about after Palpatine manipulated events to have a rebelling system event cause the death of his son, which drove Tarkin into a more extreme stance on order and crushing rebellions through making them scared.

Cann you not comprehend why he would lie?
And as Clerks points out, everyone on the second Death Star knew the risks and had to know that they were building a planet destroying non-moon.
Also, let's not forget that the reason Alderaan was destroyed was because the planet Leia said their base was on was not important enough to make a statement. It wasn't even because they believed it was a Rebel base.
Alderaan supported the Rebels. For all Tarkin knew, it was another Geonosis, and we all know how hard it was for the Republic to take those Geonosian bastards down.
Dantoine. Was actually investigated by imperials and did have a base on it. Buujt it was abandoned.
The risks aren't even relevant a naval base has always and will always be a legitimate target. The size of said base is entirely irrelevant to the question the whole idea it was a war crime is absurd.
Why did they have to know? It’s a secret. The crew and workers have no reason at all to be told what it is. And the Empire chose a highly visible Rebel base over a low visibility Rebel base. It was still due to their support of the rebellion.
@@midgetydeath Alderaan was not in open rebellion, though. If it had been, Leia wouldn't have been able to pretend that she was on a diplomatic mission.
And even with Alderaan's current government potentially planning to join the rebellion, heck, even if Alderaan HAD rebelled, this still wouldn't have justified this.
This is like, if the Senator of Texas supported rebels planning to take over the US and as a response, they nuked every single square mile of the state and then sank the entire landmass into the ocean, killing every single living being there and ensuring that nothing could ever live there, again. It's not a warranted response by any metric.
Also: the workers definitely knew what they were working on. There had already been a Deathstar and it had blown up a planet.
