- More from this Ohne Filter show from 1994. Great versions these, Back on Terra Firma played into Sweet Dreams just like the album! John and Will playing amazingly! Sweet Dreams of course based on Roy Buchanan's classic version!
Enjoy!
John Jorgenson is the best living guitarist on the planet. Lucky are those who know this - and hopefully some fine day John will get the recognition he has truly earned.
Three masters who each bring something to the table and who compliment each other so well.
I have had the great pleasure of meeting Jerry Donahue on three separate occasions after first seeing him with Fairport. I met him when he toured with the Backroom Boys, The Sandy Denny Tribute Band and when he did a solo performance at the New Roscoe in Leeds. He is the most modest and humble guy you could imagine, all that amazing skill and talent and no sign of ego at all. He sat and had a pint of Guinness with me and my mates and chatted away as if he'd known us for years. So tragic that he had the massive stroke that has almost certainly ended his career as one of the greatest and most original players this planet has ever seen.
Roy and Danny, great guitar legends two of my favorites great performance!!
I met John at a small venue in Perth Scotland & he was a very humble & inspiring man...he played a Django medley that was absloute perfection he was so laid back & actually listened to me unlike some guitarists i've met that are famous...only wish i could play half as good as these guys Jerry is my fav tho....lol
Amazing....Been playing guitar for 47 years and still learning from the Hellecasters...
When I "discovered" this on alternative FM I was thrilled. I love this song and appreciate the musicians and their talent (for lack of a better way to express this), I have this cassette.
Man, any one of these guys could front a band. All of them together is just wicked!
I've always loved these guys. I wish they would put out some more.
Jerry Donahue is my personal favorite of the three Hellecasters. His style, tone, the whole nine yards. He is one of my biggest guitar influences. However, in my opinion, Will Ray's performance of Sweet Dreams here is the standout performance of this entire show! His tone, his licks, the whole performance is actually BETTER than the CD.
I love these guys! It works so well because all three are so different. I keep wanting to get a Will Ray ASAT until I remember that having the ax won't give me his chops! I'd love to see EJ sit in on this song!
Should be ZERO thumbs down. What's up with that? These guys are great guitarists. You should be so lucky to see/listen to them play from the comfort of where you are.
Oh man! This is so good! I only knew one song of them form tape before, beautiful to hear and see this!
I love how Roy played that with a Tele and whatever amp was around, no nothing but wire, Tele and amp
I'm here after learning the existence of the Fender hellcaster series.. discovering I really like the style of this band.. what a gem!
Wow. Never heard of these guys. What an amazing find. Instant favourite.
They are bad ass
Wow, got a wire for the Hellcasters from a mate and he was right!!,some of the sweetest, tasteful and above all else hot geetar music played with such feeling, its official, I LOVE THE HELLCASTERS, George from Scotland.
I LOVE THE HELLECASTERS they can put so much emotion in music!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love John's tone. Tele + Vox sounds awesome.
I love these guys!!....had the pleasure of meeting Jerry Donahue at a local music store. The whole album is Perfection. Even for this Metal Player.....nice to incorporate some of these country techniques to my own style. just GREAT!!
Great! The sound reminds me a bit of Hellbillies tune "Urban Twang" which I love.
Most of those guys, if not all, are studio musicians...they are the guys who play on everyone else's albums. They just decided to make a few albums of their own. I hope they keep on making a few.
I saw them live at The Aladdin Theater in Portland, January, 1999. Fkn Incredible. Peace out
About 20 years ago or so I went to a guitar workshop at Gordon college in Wenham Massachusetts. Apparently John Jorgensen's father was the head of the music division there and he came to his father's school to talk to students. I went there with my dad because he worked there at the time in the custodial department. It was fascinating and one of the highlights of my life. Got to meet the man, ask him some questions and talk with him and everything.
You gotta be kidding...these guys are probably three of the finest pickers on the planet, licks, tones, taste, and musicianship.
I think Roy wud have been very proud of that version of sweet dreams;)
Получил массу удовольствия от прослушивания!!! Великие мастера!!
brilliant saw them in london years ago
Excellent !!! These are 2 of the tracks that kick off my weekends. others are Rory Gallagher's Brute Force and Ignorance 1979 and Johhny Winter's Johhny B Goode from 1984
Amazing musicians saw them live in London , Will Ray John and Jerry are the best , Thanks for the music.
Damn that was very impressive. Saw G&L adds galore in the 90s in Guitar World magazine for The Hellecasters but never listened to them. Stumbled upon this by mere chance.
They're really playin the Hell out of their Telecasters.. I would love to see them play "Valley of the Pharaohs."
Perfection ❤
Classy pickin'....those are cool G&L ASAT's as well.
God Bless Emmanuel Family.
Phill, Rest in Peace, Tommy keep on tune..
CRAZY that ring he wears on his second joint of his middle and uses like a slide.
Absolutely, three of the finest guitarests ever!
heavenly...saw them live at ARLINGTON guitar show sat. nite concert
Please tell me why John Jorgenson is not mentioned in the same breath as Luke, Vai, Satriani, Santana and dare I be so bold, Clapton, Page & Beck? JJ is the most versatile guitarist/musician of our age. As great as he is playing here, he can do the same in a variety of genres & on a variety of instruments. To top it off, he is one of the most genuine souls on the planet - the real deal as a human and a musician.
Absolutely 3 of the finest guitarests ever.
i love the the main line! its got an actual melody!! cant believe im in the best guitar school in the world and only one person told me of these people. its not good lol x
Very nice tunes w/ some pretty slick guitar playin. I luv it.
Not knowing too much about them, I'm impressed. I love RB and Gatton.
wonderful. Such great guitar players!!
Handmade!
that solo by Mr. Ray - whoa.......
never heard of these guys until just now
it ain't get any better
15 people need counselling !!
@Thomas Jefferson 8 months and no assholes!
woohoo! ma fave hellecasters song!!!
Saw them years ago at the Hollywood House of Blues as an opening act for Steve Morse... didn’t go to see Steve. I may be biased but in my humble opinion, John, Will and Jerry were better and much more fun to watch!
Wonderful performance.
Thanks for posting this.
did anyone mamage to get hold of this fantastic video.I cannot find it anywhere.
I love it.
This is called Guitar music at its best.
I remember when waistcoats were in fashion in the 90s.... those were the days, man.
They'd be a pair of G&L "Magnetic Field Design" pickups.
I tried to post a link here but obvious YT didn't like it. Punch "G&L MFD Pickup for ASAT Special" into Google and the first link should be the G&L website.
I can confirm G&L guitars are some of the finest playing/sounding guitars you're ever likely to find. I got a Japanese one, I chose it over the recent made in USA Fenders that I tried out which cost 2.5 times as much...
Most excellent.
Amazing!
Terra firma composed by the Emmanuel Brothers, the lead work by Phil. Check it out folks its Tommy and his brother Phil.
Telecaster forever (❤´艸`❤)the best guitar n the world .
👋🏻two magic single coil 💞connected .
I just realized how badly I want that gold tele.
Great sounding Les Pauls really bright.
Thanks.
There are two ohne filter tapes. This one is the oldest
i think.I recorded them from German television.Forgot when though.
It sometimes seems that truly virtuosic players often don't "play well" with other (monsters) in the same group, but these guys sure do. Any one of them is capable of dominating the stage through sheer chops, but they all work together so that it's not just guitar madness, it's actually good music that happens to have a lot of guitar madness. I really like them all but have to confess that am especially partial to Ray's playing. Wish they'd do another LP.
I hear some Mark Knopfler in this.
The first number puts me in mind of Wishbone Ash but with Telecasters (and definitely in a good way). Epic sound....
I think Jerry Cantrell also played a G&L, Haven't been able to play one myself but they seem good. (This band has an amazing good sound, love it!)
Thats correct
Those are Will's "stealth slides". He sells them on his website, along with an instructional DVD. Well worth picking up a couple. They're pretty cool, and not as hard to use as you might think.
I'm on board with all of that; Terrence fascinates me; brilliant guy. I read one of his books, and have heard several recorded talks; very thought provoking, and a one of a kind guy! Kind of like Frank, but with a different take on mind altering substances, to say the least.
very nice
Its very hard to match the original Buchanan version of Sweet Dreams off the second album, but Will does a valiant job.
❤
all hail the VOX AC30
GREAT
dude post some more of this. john jorgenson shreds. saw him play with his quintet about a month ago and it was amazing.
Puts me in mind a little of Wishbone Ash (but with Telecasters !) - they achieve some similar tones and dynamics. This a compliment BTW....
Nice,nice,nice.
NO.1 stretch go John love those straps
Uh...hello. If you'd watch the entire vid, you'd know that is NOT Danny Gatton with the teal ASAT. 4:38 - 4:58 will explain when he dedicates "Sweet Dreams" to the late Roy Buchanan and Danny Gatton. Awesome band here.
jefftri it is a slide but it's a just like a ring that u can keep on while ur playing and use it when u want to. so it's always there.
Jeez, the number of people who need counseling is up to 19 now...ah, the tragedy and heartbreak of GMAD - Guitar Music Appreciation Deficiency syndrome. It strikes those who don’t have enough sense to simply stop watching. Sadly, RUclips protects their identity, so their affliction remains undetected and untreated. Pray for them, won’t you?
Jon5, Greg Koch and Johnny Highland need to do a tribute album to these guys or a mk2 version.
Or all join up for a monster tele fest
God I miss the Hellecasters .🤘🎸
great!!!!!okifinoki!!!
I think i was at this show, i forget the year but i'm pretty sure it was the Galaxy Theater in Costa Mesa California. It was a great venue for concerts, great sound and every show seemed to be packed. But i guess they couldn't get the acts they needed to stay open or maybe it was poor mgmt. Anyway they closed this year, to bad.
The teal player is Will Ray
@elliezzer I dont know about a down load available but I have a dvd you can look for, It is
FANTASTIC the title is Helecasters Live Raw In
Germany.
Jorgenson really woke that drummer up!
Nice hair John! I mean come on...
Was so into it until the snare kicks in and I’m still laughing
I just listened to Tommy and Phil Emmanuel's version of this song and loved it...Loved this version also...great song :D lol...does anyone know who wrote it? (Terra Firma that is)
Awesome song, Jorgensen rocks
True
Beeeeow beow beow, biddy beow beow beow beeeeoww, biddybiddybiddy
Beeeeow beow beow, biddy beow beow beow beeeeoww, biddybiddybiddy ...
The Hellecasters RULE. I still wanna see a live version of Major Troutage...
Sadly I think the guy playing the teal asat is Danny Gatton and he left us several years ago, HE WAS TRULY GREAT!,
@Satanhimselv Fair enough. Andy Timmons is a great player, great tone. For me, Will Ray is mind blowing. Between the bender and the slide, I really think he is untouchable.
Sounds like you've found your ultimate guitar. No excuses now huh?!
Certainly some Roy Buchanan licks in there on "Sweet Dreams".
this tone...
I've tried several times finding this video,I've ended up with the same copy of the last video they done in germany, what's the chances of you making me a copy of this,I will gladly pay all the fees, thanks

@@milgarofalo3377 I really really appreciate that thank you so much
Was expecting more from this trio. Supposedly hyped up band.
Listen some more, like to a whole album. After 3 years I bet
you're a believer.
