Saw these guys play live three times in SoCal, and it changed my life. After the first time, I had Dave Borisoff install a Hipshot on my Tele when he still had his shop in Van Nuys, before he moved Hipshot to Interlaken. Next time I saw them play, I got talking to Will Ray and ended up learning string bender with him for 6 months. At the first session, he said, "OK...ground rules. If you wanna know what JJ does, buy his videos. If you wanna know what Jerry does, don't ask. I have no idea how he does what he does."
@@sjuozhunki - Depends on the guitar. I went to Dave because Will recommended I do so, not because I wasn't willing to install the Hipshot myself. As it turned out, it was a good move. I had a Schecter bridge that needed a mod to keep the B-string saddle from buzzing. Dave had all the equipment necessary to mill out the saddle and install a lockdown screw that still left the saddle in tunable condition. For a Tele with a standard bridge, yeah...maybe that wouldn't have been necessary. The thing about the Hipshot bender is that the B-string's ball end doesn't come up through the guitar body; it anchors on the bender. Depending on the kind of bridge you have, there might not be enough downward pressure on the saddle to keep it from vibrating, losing string energy into the saddle, which sounds like crap. Dave's mod fixed that. While he was at it, Dave did some other mods to reduce friction along the entire length of the B-string: A teflon sleeve where the string passes through the bridge plate, and a roller string tree between the nut and the tuning peg. It all helps to ensure that the string returns to accurate pitch afer the bend, which it didn't do before the mods. 😎
Any guitar player is very fortunate if they encounter this album. I was lucky to have a guitar playing friend share this with me back in 1997 and it has influenced my playing a hell of a lot.
I love the clap at the end. I always picture this being played in some No-name bar in the middle of nowhere. They come out and play like the best performance of their lives, putting all their effort in. By the end their just standing there sweating and out of breath, only for this one guy with a cig hanging from his lip to look up and give a measly couple of claps. It always make me laugh.
I've had the Hal Leonard guitar tab book for this album for probably 20 years and its in mint condition cause I've never tried to learn any of these songs yet. My God, I'm in for it! I've been playing for 31 years and I've never delved into the tele country Roy Buchan style before. This song I'm pretty sure is the hardest one to play on this album. I just listened to it tonight for the 1st time ever and laughed after it was over saying to myself "that was ridiculous". Back to the woodshed, it'll be fun to learn this style.
I want to learn this first, master it...then plug into a Marshall stack with any metal guitar of my choice...A Jackson preferably, turn the gain up full blast, and rename it “Death Blossom Special”!!! 🤘🤘🤘
Post a video if you ever do ! Ive been wanting to learn how to play all of this since the first day I heard it. Well first I wanted to toss my guitar out the window, but then I got over it and now I want to learn how to play better. It would be a dream if I could play this well. I would never stop playing the guitar for people if I could...
+contact1araya well, Rhoads is dead and Yngwie and Paul are outstanding guitarists in their own field. These guys are exceptional at this, and Randy, Yngwie and Paul were/are exceptional in their genre. I would imagine that these guys couldn't do what Yngwie and Paul do, while Yngwie and Paul probably can't do what these guys do.... Interestingly though, I reckon if you gave the task of all musicians to learn the others style, Yngwie and Paul would be more successful.
John jorgenson could stack against paul yngwie and rhoads. John is a very diverse player and is the ambassador of gypsy jazz. Literally the ambassador. His acoustic playing is just as or more ridiculous.
This might be the best instrumental I have ever heard before in my entire life! Thanks for turning me on to this (posting) so I can buy the album, Honest AK! Fucking, awesome!
Its great....I bought the sheet music to this song....the exact tablature transcription....Oh boy was I excited....Im gonna play like the Helle boys..........needless to say.... that never happened...ahahaha
@@AndyBigDaddyWilkinson Lol; fantastic! My Dad used to take us to Bluegrass festivals and they`d always play this song; my Dad is 84 now. You should have seen the look on his face when I cranked this song full blast; he was shocked and amazed; loved it!
You'd think Grizzly Bear & the Crocodiles would play this way with names like that! They should change their names, maybe - to Teddy Bear & the Salamanders!
Surf-rock?Dear me if Carl Wilson etc were this good when that strange fad was created they'd have been burnt at the stake for whatever might represent witchcraft at the time.Jorgensons' playing is totally beyond belief here.I think Johnson is waiting for him at the Crossroads!
There are still marks on the Catalyst wall in Santa Cruz from 1996.

Install a hipshot---remove the rear strap button place the hipshot on and replace the strap button.

This tune is a speeding ticket waiting to happen.
So much better than good. Perfection in progress.
I get so tired having to pick my jaw up from the floor every time I hear these guys...
forget the amazing guitar playing , what about ''drummer endurance !"
Him and the bass player were absolutely laying it down proper for them boys!
It’s what we do! :)

Jerry Donahue is an absolute beast
He is. But in this one John Jorgenson plays most of the lead
Heard Donahue play The Beak and The Claw ...was hooked after that. He's a beast , as are the rest of them.
This is the most smokinest, hottest, out of control OBS I've ever heard!!!!
And no fiddle, WoooHoooooo,,,,,,,Y'all smoke!!!!
I saw these guys in concert in the mid 90's in San Diego. Simply.Fuckin.Amazing.
I saw them in San Juan Capistrano and Steve Morse was the headliner-ffs.
Every good gift is from God.
Jerry is a good friend of the family and the last time we met he played this song for us and damn damn damn damn
Absolute excellence! As a live sound engineer, I still use this tune as one of my "EQ songs" when setting-up PA systems.
Michael Nesmith of the Monkeys did this one.
Every time I hear this album I either want to get better or quit!
Every time I hear it I want LSD!
Psychedelicly Surreal Speed Metal Surf Country Western bluegrass Jazz Fusion is my kind of music!; fucking awesome !!!
Or switch to the kazoo.
If there were speed limits in guitar playing, these guys would have permanent lifetime bans.
Make a joyful noise unto the Lord!
I love the clap at the end.

I always thought it was the janitor, waiting to clean up the empty room lol

"Telecasters" Rule!!!......So do the "Hellcasters"!!!
Gosh... I'd forgot about these guys [headslap]; saw them open for Eric Johnson in Melbourne in 2001.
and eric is still kicking himself in the ass to this day
Intro is Price I Pay, of The Desert Rose Band with Emmylou Harris
An awesome cd!! One of my prized possessions!!

I s'pose the tab book is a set of encyclopedias!!!
That's some sick playing......
If you listen to this song and don't want a telecaster, you probably don't need a telecaster.
Awesome!!!
Amazing players!
Holy Molely!

So where are you up to, anywhere near finished?
Modern Masters!
Каждый гитарист должен по утрам играть эту тему , как утреннюю тренировку, а кто не сможет, тот пока еще не гитарист) 😁
The best version of this song.
different/love it
Now if I can only find this genius on a cd !!!!!! I'm having a helluva time. And no , I don't have iTunes at the moment. LOL
holly shit.....Roads, Malmsteem, Gilbert.........and the whole lot should start learning country!!

Jimmy Bryant would approve.
perfect for one of those "smokey and the bandit" chase scenes... but more to the present date, this stuff rules!
Dan "One of Swords" Amrich told me to listen.
it's both ... missed the 'wake up' - too funny :)
One of them fellas seems to be using a B bender guitar.

The delay is set to 4/3 of a quarter note I think. Hard to tell
with a band that's into 64th & 128th & 256th & 512th & 1024th...........
HOLY SHIT!!!
DAMN, I MEAN LIKE ....DAMN!!!
Damn !!!! Speed rules... :-)
Cool.
HOLY SHIT!!!!!!!
Hey Bud
At 00:23 I thought "this is gonna be 7 minutes long?"
and it just stays that amazing the whole time.
Flipanteeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Dam. Thats pretty crazy how those guys play guitar
ihaveasnake - What kind of snake?
At 78 rpm on record. This is how Steve Morse became great.
weeeeee doggiee!
the clapping at the end is the guys in the booth after that take ... holy fuck!
John Jorgenson was on one the videos I posted.
@TorrinTheGreat
I'd say surf rock is more of a country thing. ;)
You'd think Grizzly Bear & the Crocodiles would play this
way with names like that! They should change their names,
maybe - to Teddy Bear & the Salamanders!
or even gummy bear & the worms
Wrong, it's the sound of footsteps across the floor, followed by "Wake up!" at the end. (As though anyone could actually sleep through this.)
This one is 4 my friend Dave ward
Drum & bass off the hook
What can i say about the 3 stooges playin those adamantium guitars....
Every time I hear this album I want LSD!
Unbelievable *
thats u wayne...
A guitar player friend of mine told me they did this in one take. Yikes.
How could you edit from this from multiple takes? For these guys that would be harder than playing it flawlessly once.
@grattujao I have ten and I STILL can't play this...maybe if I cut off four?
Still soundshot, but also FUN.
Orange Blossom Special is surf rock? Whatever you say, I suppose.
BTW, I think "imagery" is the word you were looking for.
if the shadows took speed. I bet they'd sound something like that.
It's actually Jon Jorgensen playing
Will Ray plays the wild stuff 2/3 of the way thru. It's all wild, I guess!
They take turns, of course.
Jorgensen is first verse + chorus, Jerry Donahue second (mellower tone), Will Ray third starting with the siren-sounding slide part.
Yeah - Will gets pretty radical about 5 minutes in.
They were too busy to form spinal tap and way too good Navy seals of the guitar world
😂
Answer: 127. (styles of guitar playing in this). I guess that's all of em'.

oh but they missed that one note. ;-)
?? which one exactly???? ;-P
buxi444 That's what insecure guitar players always say, lol.
Ahaahahahahaha you wish
( ゚д゚)
its easy when u have 6 fingers XD
And not a hint of strain or effort.
Welche Blödmänner findet das denn nicht gut?!
Wtf?
That delay/echo is obnoxious. Unlistenable.
Amazing players!
