One of the finest, superbly masterful guitar players ever!
I truly love Chet so very much and miss him dearly. I just thank God for the recording capabilities that allow us to continue to hear his amazing music. Can't wait to meet him in Glory.
R.I.P Chet still inspiring us 50 years later .
No only did he transcribe it ad play on the electric guitar, he made it beautiful in parts. I never tire of finding Chet videos on RUclips. Thanks so much for posting this.
Wow! Chet never ceased to amaze me.
I love Chet. He is so relaxed. Tommy Emanuel is the prize.
He’s picking those strings like a banjo picker would, gotta love it!
AWESOME talent Chet Atkins TAPPING Shreddiing WAY BEFORE EDDIE VAN HALEN WAS BORN On Top of Banjo Rolling like a Pro Banjo Player FFS!!! one of the MOST UNDERRATED PERFORMANCES EVER .... Thank You
I always liked Chet Atkins and bought many of his albums when I was a kid. I was watching the fingers of the guitarist playing behind him, he was playing in unison with Chet. I guess that is why Chet named all the musicians before he started, they are all amazing.👍👍
The greatest guitar player of all time, hands down.
That skill level ought to be impossible but there it was ... and all from memory.
Thank you!
My dad used to play this at square dances in the USA (down south)! Thought I'd google a steel guitar version of the song & see what I'd find . . . HOLY COW YOU ARE GOOD!!! Absolutely great! I never dreamed I'd hear a version like this (unbelievable!) from an Englishman who most likely has never been to a Saturday night square dance at a VFW Hall where the Orange Blossom Special is practically their National Anthem (nothing political intended)!!! ...signed, not Bob Gross Music, Bob's wife, Linda . . . but Bob loved it too!!
I have played for 50 years -----And I could not shine his shoes !!!!One of my darkest days when we lost him.
jeannie bell Jim reese
jeannie bell m
jeannie bell Same here. Don’t be discouraged; I don’t think there are more than a handful of players who could shine Chet’s shoes. Tommy Emmanuel is one of the few guitarists inspired by Chet who can also make my jaw drop. But there will only ever be one Authentic Chet Atkins. So sad that he’s gone.
Yes, I so much agree.
Sadly, on my birthdate, June 30th. I've played a long time too. My dad brought home his album in the early 60. I saw him at a matinee concert in the late 70s. Nobody showed up. He invited everyone down to the front. I sat 9 feet from his hands as he played. That's Paul Yandell, the other guitarist. He's great also. But, Chet was the front bow of the Titanic.
The stuff this guy could do with a Guitar. Most could only dream about.
Wow...golden fingers!! Miss you Chet....one of a kind.
I still have his & Paul Yandel's signatures on a program from a 1981 or so Memphis concert when I was a volunteer usher seating concert goers.
CGP’s. Did their guitar talent run off on you ?
@@moreme40 Naw, I'm doing good playing the Jaws theme & Louie Louie on the piano
This is a masterpiece. Paul Yandell matches all those lines perfectfully. Their musical memories are superb. Most people would be reading charts like this. Phrasing, technique, taste, authenticity AND originality--it's all their.
I was glad when Chet's estate awarded him a CGP. The last and maybe most deserved.
we are so special to be able to enjoy the master. thank you chet.
I don't have the words for how much this touches my heart
Wonderful beyond words
How this man made something that's so complex and technical look absolutely EFFORTLESS will always, always leave me speechless. I mean hell...he looks like someone just reading the morning paper, not playing fantastic music.
Easy= countless hours of practice + talent
I cannot imagine there will ever be a sweeter better more tasteful purer sound than Chet. He doesn’t play. The guitar just plays itself. You hear no player. Just the notes. Effortless.
The master at his work. This was no big deal to him, unlike us poor humans.
Superb and classy. RIP Chet.
He wasn't called the king of the strings for nothing. RIP Mr. Atkins.
Chet is one of the all time greats of guitar period
Correct yourself. He is the Greatest of All Time
Nobody....NOBODY..could pick-it like Chet!
Chet is badass ! Legend forever
Chet the master guitarist for us still normal Folks. Notice how Stoic he remains while playing.
when you perform at this level, you are never really satisfied.
Isn't that true about any guitarist. We all think we should be better.
Glad to be named after him. He was a master
Well, there's not much to say. Two masters of the guitar, Chet and his partner Paul Yandell. When you listen it's sometimes hard to tell the difference.
Chet is playing the Gibson Country Gentleman which he helped develop after leaving Gretsch. Equally well sounding.
It don't get no better!!
Sweet sweet tone. Amazing picking. Mr Guitar. RIP.
Un grand Monsieur et le mentor de Marcel Dadi !!
That my friends is PERFECTION never matched never beated never will.
Wow! That was pretty amazing
His face is the best. He's like, "Yea, I just did that, it was pretty easy."
Chet's best version! Live, smooth and ethereal.
He's never failed to amaze me. Along with Les Paul, the greatest guitar innovators of the 20th century.
Mike
another one of his favorites
Chet, Jerry Reed and Glen Campbell should have had a super group "The Guitar Men" would've gave The Highwaymen a run!!
Such precision!!
He didn't invent the guitar, but he did show the guy what it was for!
Underrated Comment.
Mr. Guitar !! Enough said !!
I miss you Chet.
Amazing. It really doesn't do this talent justice but it's the best I got. Thanks for the video.
That’s the thing, he makes it look so damn easy!
A truly blessed person.
Paul right in there on the harmonies!
Before evh was doin it....chet was crushin it.
Interesting anecdote, for those who loved Chet...in one of his last interviews before he died, Chet was asked if there was a guitarist alive that he would actually pay money to go and see. Without hesitation, he said, "Doyle Dykes". If you liked Chet, you will love Doyle. If you don't know who he is, please take time to check him out......
Absolute perfection.
great presentation
Awesome, and even Chet gets a kick out of it
chet about the only person who can double pick (Yankee doodle Dixie) at the same time and he still amazes me
stellar performance
SANTANA
EVERY THING IS COMING OUR WAY
He's probably just happy because figures like that actually feel really good under your fingers when you play them.
This is the best that can be played.
Legend doesn't quite do it.
I sure miss that guy. But then I miss Ronald Reagan too. And lately I've been missing Glen Cambell.
Such beautiful tone!
Paul Yandell was probably never given enough credit.
2:12 Chet Van Halen!!!
+tommy1gtr ..other way around..hello.. Eddie Van Atkins
That would be Cheddar Van Halen
tommy1gtr a
Still a masterpiece
Magnificent picker of all time.
Chet Atkins is the best of all time. He just makes it look so easy-its not! And he has always the greatest taste. I wonder why he does not play with a Bigsby? This set looks like Austin City Limits which was always a great show on PBS. that tapping maneuver he does at 2:17 is incredible playing.
What a monster
great music
Fantastic!!!
Excellent work by all!
Volume dead halfway through.
Such an amazing, delicate touch.
This is the Austin City Limits I wish we could still see today!
Great finger tapping solo over that I IV V progression. JUst like EVH's, Hot for Teacher. Although this performance was many years before that. I wonder where he got that groove?
LEGEND🤩
Muy bonito
It maybe usually played on the fiddle but Chet Atkins done a jam up job at it
Henry 44 mag. Yes he did.....my first time seeing this one.....definitely tore it up......👍👍
Chet may have played and endorsed Gretsch but he converted to a Gibsonite, and died a Gibsonite. Looks like he is usin his Standel Amp. (made by the same company as Gretsch amps, & Supro by Valco. Those Hi Fi tubes were so sweet and gave him such a great tone.
Legend
THE MAN! Wow!
Of course if a fan / follower . Everyone knows Paul Yandel was No slouch either. Just plain outright gifted musicians........I could only hope !!!!!
so great then volume dies
Sounds fantastic. Chet Atkins is a master. What year was this recorded?
Supreme playing, so effordlessa a clear sign for a genius.
Amazing. Chet makes it look so easy, but of course it isn't! Hey the sound cut out half way through! Actually the video is repeated. Strange!
🎸🎶💕
Incredible man
Top
Somewhere in RUclips, there is even Django Reinhart who was playing tapping during 11 seconds so tapping is an old technic. Of course, EVH made it popular.
Chet s playing finger style on the fast part.
@electrostatic1
Neither Chet nor Eddie invented tapping. Chets tapping is very primitive. But he could do anything it seems. Nice version of the song btw.! Chet is the greatest allround player and fingerpicker for me!
Paul on a Les Paul too.
🎸👍😎🤠🙏
Even Chet used chorus in the 80s ;-)
1:30 - 1:45 He is so satisfied with himself.
the audio cut out half way thru the video. was the tape that way or is it able to be restored?
Chet was shredding before shredding was cool
awesome...doing hammer-ons waaaay b4 eddie v!
