Thanks for watching everyone! I've gotten a few comments on errors and potentials errors I should address: 1. I said Akira was a "simple" character. It's actually the complete opposite. He's one of the most complex and difficult to learn characters in Virtua Fighter. Of the games on this list, Virtua Fighter is the one I've played the least, so whenever I played the game, all the characters felt similarly difficult, making all learning curves as intense for me. I've always been more interested in Virtua Fighter as a staple of 90s gaming culture (Dural is one of my favorite fighting game bosses). 2. I said no one wanted to help Kasumi in the DOA5 story. However, I neglected to mention that her clone that thought it was Kasumi was the main Kasumi, which is why no one was compliant. It's been awhile since I've sat through the DOA5 story in full, so I only refreshed myself on a few chapters since I was more focused on covering the Kasumi vs Raidou plot from the first game. 3. When I said Akira uses Kung Fu, some viewers mentioned that's not his fighting style. A few said it was karate instead, but that seems to be a misconception. Akira's fighting style is baji-quan, which is a type of Kung Fu. Viewer Louis4595 confirmed that with me and said it's expanded upon in the Virtua Fighter anime. Other viewers say the way Akira fights in-game is more like karate, though, so it seems his lore and actual fighting techniques might conflict (or I might just be wrong). 4. There was some confusion over Kazuya being my choice as protagonist. While Kazuya is not a "good guy," he still plays the role of protagonist in some Tekken games. The protagonist is the lead character of a story, which means the character is just the focal point of the story and does not have to be aligned with the side of good to be considered a lead. Jin and Heihachi (and Lars) are still protagonists in the series, too. Kazuya was just my favorite of the characters that took that role. Hope that clears up any confusion and if there are any other notable mistakes or potential mistakes, I'll update this comment. Thanks for understanding!

Being difficult to play as has nothing to do with being a protagonist. Akira could’ve been left out of this list all together seeing as VF dam near has no story whatsoever.
Correction: Morrigan doesn't steal souls to survive, and her only canon soul-stealing is against those who are already a threat/enemy, like Pyron. She survives off excitement.
Siegfried didn't team up with Sophitia and Taki. Siegfried's story in Soul Edge is him taking down anyone who stands in his way to take the titular sword and use it to find his father's killer. However, it turns it Siegfried is his father's killer and has been in a very deep denial ever since. When Sophitia and Taki defeated Cervantes, they destroyed Soul Edge but the sword took the form of two swords to fit its current host so there is still another left intact. When Siegfried stumbled onto the scene after the battle, he battled the spirit of Soul Edge aka Inferno and defeated it. Siegfried then took hold of the remaining sword of Soul Edge but was then overtaken by it. Soul Edge sensed Siegfried's unwell and broken mind and decides that he is a suitable host. From then on, Siegfried became the infamous Azure Knight, Nightmare.
Kyo never died. After defeating Orochi in KOF 97 he just lived his life normally until KOF 99 where he's captured by NESTS who plan to use his DNA to create strong clones (such as Kyo-1 and Kyo-2) to destroy the world. He eventually escapes tho Edit: Right he was indeed immediately captured by NESTS after 99 like the replies said
tbh the time right after Orochi saga, Kyo was captured by NESTS. Kyo couldnt fight because he was still tired after having a life & death battle with Orochi. so in Kof 99 Kyo didnt appear, he comes back 2 Kof tournament at 2001
He was thought to be dead after KOF97 final battle with Orochi but later in KOF 99, it was revealed that NESTS recover (kidnapped to be exact) Kyo where he was heavily wounded and healed him, but before taking some of his DNA to create his clone and fuse with K' body. There's a KOF comic book, it explain it.
My list would be something like this!! 10. Akira Yuki from Virtua Fighter 9. Haohmaru from Samurai Shodown 8. Kyo Kusanagi and K’Dash, Iori Yagami, Ash Crimson all from KOF 7. Kasumi, Ayane, and Hayate from DOA 6. Yugo from Bloody Roar 5. Liu Kang, Taven from Mortal Kombat (maybe shoutout to Shujinko took a while for me to start like this kharacter) 4. Ryu, Alex, Charlie Nash from Street Fighter 3. Jin Kazama and Lars Alexanderson from Tekken 2. Terry Bogard and Rock Howard from Fatal Fury/KOF 1. Siegfried from Soul Calibur
My bad. I forgot those details over the years since the story has come out. The fact that she thought she was the real Kasumi made it confusing when I refreshing myself on her parts of the DOA5 story. At least I got all the Raidou stuff correct!
You also forgot to mention the Kasumi's a fugitive running from her clan who have orders to kill her cause she broke Ninja Law by going after Raidou.. This backstory should easily put her in one of the top spots.
Kasumi and Ryu Hayabusa are equal to my eyes as the protagonists in DOA. Ryu was such a bad ass everytime as it was intentional due to his main game Ninja Gaiden. DOA's story took years to make sense, it was Kasumi's clone that got the most screen time. It somewhat explained why her (clone) dialogue/progression throughout the franchise were simple minded, without much purpose and with interactions that really didn't move the story.
You’re mistaken. The actions of Kasumi throughout the series weren’t that of her clone. That only shows up in DOA 5. Kasumi was present in DOA 1, 2, 3 and 4.
Siegfried wasn't a "noble knight" until after Soul Edge. He was a brat who ran with bandits and ended up murdering his own father, going crazy with guilt as a result until he convinced himself that the wielder of Soul Edge was responsible to be able to live with himself. There's a reason Soul Edge bonded so closely with him = he was already damaged when he picked up the sword.
This was an interesting list. I would personally put Terry Bogard above Ryu. He has a much more interesting personality and style and his english lines in battle are so charismatic. Terrys fighting style is also so striking and unique. I don't disagree with your list, I understand your reasoning and such lists are also subjective ofcourse, I am just voicing my own preferences. I am so happy to see Kyo Kusanagi on the list though, my number 1 all time favorite fighting game character is Kyo Kusanagi and it's for the reasons you already mentioned in the video. I love more than anything his fighting style, the punches, the combos, his style and personality.
Glad you liked it! Generally for the top pick, I combine my opinion with the character's legacy, so the legacy factor just got Ryu in for Number 1. However, I like Terry a lot more than Ryu, so I completely understand why Terry would top other people's personal lists.
Akira's cool, but he's definitely far from beginner-friendly, which kind of sets him apart from other protags. From my experience with him in DOA5, he's very execution-heavy.
It's definite! I was planning it and I didn't want the counterpart list to be so outdated, so I thought it would make a good idea to remake my protagonist video first.
Thank you! My old lists were mostly spur of the moment ideas that I had free time for between classes and work and I mostly put them out there to entertain friends and see who would find it, so I didn't put much effort on the editing side and mostly relied on commentary. I'm glad I learned from trial and error over the years.
Yes! I always thought Shu'ei from KOF looks like a protagonist. He needs his own show. We need more SNK shows to expand on the existing lore. It's so good.
the game play added really does make the video better to the older one. Thanks for the update. I love you channel! Can you make a top ten list about Mega Man one day?
I think Haohmaru should be listed in the top ranking rather than just honorable mentions. At least I believe he has more prominence than Siegfried, Akira Yuki or Morrigan.
Thanks! With all the backstories, there was an average of 20 years of history for each character, so it was hard to condense each one into a succinct description
Immortal scientist who became one of the prototypes for what eventually would become an out-of-control superweapons program that he now wants to destroy, starting with his scientist girlfriend, who lost her mind after she got mind controlled in her mecha suit by a pocket dimension of horrors. There, one sentence.
He was thought to be dead after KOF97 final battle with Orochi but later in KOF 99, it was revealed that NESTS manage to recover (kidnapped to be exact) Kyo and healed him, before taking some of his DNA to create his clone and fuse with K' body.
Jin is Tekken's protag, not Kazuya...Kazuya to Tekken is what is Scorpion or Sub-Zero to MK, whilst Jin is what is Liu Kang or Kung Lao to MK! Jin and Hwoarang are Tekken's Ryu and Ken (minus friendship part...that one is pretty one-sided...) Kazuya embraces his devil gene, Jin despises it! Kazuya is more like Akuma of the series...Someone, who embraces evil doesn't fit for the role of protag, unless every other character on the roster of that game is even more evil...Also not sure about Kazumi being DOA protag...i mean there is Ryu Hayabusa, so dunno...
@@tricksalot2 No, dude! Jin is most definitely a main protag, since the whole story of Mishima vs. Kazama families revolves around former being evil, latter being well...LESSER evil...Mishimas were always these bloodthirsty ego maniacs (Kazuya included), who craved for nothing but power and control! Jin never wanted these things until probably he got a taste of that in Tekken 6, ever since then yes, he became much less vigilante, but you can still tell unlike Kazuya he is still relatively good in comparison...protag of the series just can't be a person, like Kazuya, who is bloodthirsty ego maniac! Lars was protag for like one or two games max (Not sure this makes him main series protag...unless its Tekken 12 and he is still protag by that time! Jin had more longevity is series goody-two-shoes boy!)...As for Kasumi dunno...Ryu Hayabusa is iconic, i just dunno...
@@Summon256 Ryu is like the description he gave for Soul Calibur's Taki, but in the DoA series. He's more like a "commando" or "General" that does a lot of work, but ultimately doesn't have as personal a motive or is as ambitious within the tournament or plot as Kasumi or Ayane. Ryu has cannonically won at least one tournament, tho, I believe
The only reason I wouldn't vote for Jin as protagonist is because he isn't in the series from the beginning. I'm not necessarily voting for Kazuya either, the first game ropes you into his corner with the 'heart break' tale of his father Heihachi trying to kill him as a kid, placing his father in the role of villain. As the rest of the story unfolds, Heihachi had good reason to try and kill Kazuya. So maybe Heihachi has a claim as protagonist. Tekken's Ryu and Ken are Kazuya and Paul (if that wasn't obvious by Paul's initial costume) a character that pretty much shared the same move set as the former. Kasumi is the protagonist of DoA, the default player one character select slot in almost all Dead or Alive games is occupied by Kasumi. The story is about her leaving her clan to defeat her uncle (she killed him back in the first DoA) , her retrieving her injured kidnapped brother (almost had him too if it weren't for Hayabusa stepping in), her being hunted down by her clan on orders of her father (who should have stepped up to take down his brother Raidou---but then we wouldn't have the drama), her stopping her ultimate clone (she delivered the final blow)... Ryu Hayabusa has his own game series to helm, Ninja Gaiden.
The list is great, with some mentions not really talked about too often. However, imo, Ryu is just so boring. Terry Bogard is far more interesting of a character, with a style and flair to match. Not to mention his abilities are pretty damn powerful. In all fairness, at least Terry was put quite high on the list.
@Ne Ws I’m sure those “most people” are fans from the Smash community correct? Cause when Terry got revealed, I could tell that none of them have at least played KOF at a laundromat.
As much as I love Terry Bogaurd, Ryu is just classic. He’s just what you think of when you think of video game protagonists. Other than fucking Mario. Though Terry is a great character, I never really knew about him until 2016 when KOF14 came out. I knew Ryu since sf2 because it was a classic game with classic characters. This is mostly due to how I wasn’t there in CVS 1 or 2.
@@oro-515 In the SNK vs Capcom series, Terry should have been Ryu's true rival instead of Kyo. He has a great history before KOF came along. His game FATAL FURY.
I like that nyou chose Kazuya for Tekken and Siegfried for SoulCalibur but Nightmare should have been also nr.1 since he is technically "EVIL" Siegfried
I like him too so stop saying bad things about him or you're gonna regret it you ragna the bloodedge haters. How about you watch death battle so you can see his backstory?
@@MrTopTenList I watch a lot of "top 10" videos, some good & some... not so much. I know it's a matter of opinion, so I try not to judge. But I gotta give credit when I feel it's due. Your list is thorough, informational, well written, well timed, nothing stuck out as bad or out of place, & on a personal note... a list I can't disagree with (bonus point)! So THANK YOU for standing out from the crowd, that's not easy I'm sure! Looking forward to your other videos. 😁
19:10 - OMG! Heart's here! And I could also see some other overlooked protagonists that I never/rarely seen before! Wow MrTopTenList! You sure mentioned so many of the overlooked ones!
Kazuya is not easy, neither is he top tier. And heihachi was more hero in the story than kazuya tbh. Kazuya is full of hate and seeks world Domination. What a hero.
No, Heihachi never been a good guy since he always wanted world domination starting by imprisoning his father (being the head of the Mishima zaibatsu=world domination), that made Kazumi want to kill him. He also associated the devil gene with treason due to Kazumi's betrayal and wanted to kill his son as a result, fearing he might go against him too one day. But his wife didn't want to kill him because of the devil gene (it was just a mere tool to help her "save the world"), and Kazuya would never have been this vengeful if he didn't attempt to kill him because of his paranoia. In fact, the devil gene was a good guy (sort of) when used by Kazumi since you can't feel any malevolence in her, she was in full control of the thing. But that was before Kazuya's thirst for revenge that tainted the gene and passed on to Jin. Kazumi foretold that and ordered Akuma to kill him too if he ever be consumed by rage since the devil gene would channel that. Side note: T6 Jin however did what Kazumi always feared, he used the Mishima zaibatsu to kill millions of people across the globe (count Miguel's sister as a victim). So it wasn't Heihachi that was to be feared after all as he never did something that horrible when he was on the throne (he just did things on a very low scale: emprisoned his father, attempted to kill his family multiple times, conducted devil gene experiments...)
Kazuya is mid tier to mid-high tier at least. A viable contender for top tier in Tekken 1, 2, 6, and tag 2. He was only definitively mid-low tier in Tekken 6 BR.
I've never believed Akira to be the protagonist of VF. Sure he's another Ryu clone. But he means absolutely nothing to the overall story. And on top of that he doesn't tech the mechanics of the game well at all. He's actually one of these most advanced characters in the game, and is only recommended for expert use only.
My bad on his playstyle! Virtua Fighter is a game I've always been bad at, so all the characters seemed to have a similar learning curve for me. I was basing my commentary off personal experience and I've never followed the competitive community for VF like I have for other games, so I haven't heard too many outside opinions for actual learning curves.
Akira is most definitely the main protagonist of VF 👍 His storyline is technically what happens in Shenmue but they replaced him with Ryo Hazuki at the last minute thus the reason their moveset is so similar and you can custom Akira to look like Ryo Hazuki in VF5 Final Showdown. You are absolutely correct tho on the fact that he is meant for expert use only. His moveset under the right hands dominates most characters period. You have to have super good execution to pull off some of his more technical moves but once learned, the opponent can't even block against him anymore because he busts guards with ease.
@@MrTopTenList the learning curve for VF is described as "you're running on a treadmill, then there's a cliff that curves over you, and people are falling on you."

There will be two Liu Kangs, the current evil revenant and a younger, more inexperienced but purely wholesome Liu Kang. Looks like they will cross blows at some point in the story.
+MrTopTenList Nice List Now For Mine . 1.Hanzo Hottori ( World Heroes ) And Yes He Shares The Same Name as the one in Samurai Showdown . But then again it is SNK. 2. Kazuya is the main villain in Tekken 2, Tekken 4 and Tekken 7. He is a villain in Tekken 5 and Tekken 6. From Tekken 2 onwards, he has been portrayed as an evil character, with evil motives throughout. He has a secret costume in Tekken 1, that makes him look like a devil. If you play through arcade mode in Tekken 1 as Heihachi, the final boss is Kazuya in that Devil costume. Part of Kazuya's Devil gene influenced Jin in Tekken 3 (as seen in the intro) and Kazuya has been trying to get that back from Tekken 4 onwards. He kills his Grandfather in his Tekken 5 ending, even though he remembers the good times Kazuya had with Jinpachi while holding his dying grandfather in his arms. Kazuya claims to be a good guy in Tekken 6, but he is using that fake image to gain more power and status to be more in favor against the Mishima Zaibatsu. By the way, Jin only started war on the whole world to revive Azazael, originator of the Devil Gene, to destroy him. He took over the G-Corporation by killing the CEOs, he killed Eddy's father and put the blame on Eddy, he kidnapped Dr. Bosconovitch, his mother wanted Akuma to kill Kazuya for her and he survived the fall of the cliff as a child due to the Devil Gene and has been driven by it ever since. He has effectively only been Protagonist in the first game, but he actually belongs in your Top Ten Villains list. Tl:dr: Your research is faulty. Kazuya is a great character, but he is the main villain in the Tekken series
I don’t think they gave Kasumi the cash prize they sorta kidnapped and experimented on her right after she killed Raidou Also in 5 that’s not her that’s her clone the characters sense that and that’s why they don’t help her / kill her
Great list but Bloody Roar doesn’t get love does it? It would have been kool to see Yugo as an honorable mention should do top 10 Antagonist list and top 10 cheapest fighting game bosses would be kool too!!!
You also forgot Joe,Mai and Kim for Fatal Fury also forgot Yuri,King, and Takuma for Art of Fighting and almost everyone in kof minusing Iori,Mature,Vice,Billy,K,Kula,Maxima,K9999,Foxy,Angel,Ash,Shen,Duo Lon,Oswald, and anyone else that's ether a villain or an antihero
Come on, Jin is definitely the main character character. Kazuya is the purest representation of the mishima playstyle but Jin is the one who embodies the basics of tekken completely.
I wanna give off some extra info to you since i watched the whole thing (If im wrong let me know just dont be an ass about it) There actually is story in Virtua Fighter just that they dont make any story modes which is why i think people still like Virtua Fighter and that they don't make it prominent. Also some additional information is that Jacky Bryant was originally suppose to be the main character but gave the role to Akira because they felt a non Japanese protagonist would turn off their audience in Japan. And judging on by Jacky's story that was given to him, i think Jacky should have been the guy to be the protagonist. Demitri is the main character, it was sort of established when the game was named "Vampire" in Japan. Morrigan is just the more popular if not MOST popular character of the series. And i actually agree with the idea that she should be the protagonist and why she is so liked by many including myself. Its only arguable as to Siegfried or Sophitia being the main character so...... Why not both lol. And Sophitia is NEVER a better option for beginners lol. Thats pretty much it. Hopefully this helped.

I always thought that Felicia was supposed to be a main protagonist from "Darkstalkers" because of how much appeal she has for a catwoman character, and the fact that I actually find Morrigan to be completely overrated IMO. I mean, if Felicia isn't a main protagonist in the series, then what the heck is she supposed to be?
Keep in mind: The original Japanese title of Darkstalkers is ヴァンパイア - Vampire. During development Felicia was originally the femme fatale feline (like Catwoman or Black Cat) while Morrigan was originally the she-vampire glamour girl (based on Dracula’s daughter), their roles were officially switched during the final game.
Sol being only #5? Well, I can kinda argue with that. But then again, I am biased and do not know other fighting games all too well. Still, good to see him here
So few female protagonists. I guess Orchid from KI and Kasumi from DoA are the only ones? Also, you mentioned another one from Samurai Shodown, but didn't mention Nakoruru, that is considered a coprotagonist. I also wonder who's Power Instinct protagonist, is it Otane? She's the most famous for sure.
19:12 - Huh? Is that Kidou-kun? 19:18 - And is that Eltnum-san? Wow MrTopTenList! Mentioning overlooked protagonists sure is a fun thing to do don't you agree?
Sophitia and Taki are the main protagonists in Soul Blade (Sophitia is however the first main, I think :P), then Kilik, Xianghua and Maxi are the protagonists in Soul Calibur, while Siegfried is the main one in SC II, SC III and SC IV. Patroklos is the protagonist of SC V, while Kilik and his friends are once again the protagonists of SC VI, except for the Conduit, our original character for Libra of Souls. Curiously, Libra of Souls is the only campaign game in Soul Calibur series that is canon :P
Thanks for watching everyone! I've gotten a few comments on errors and potentials errors I should address:

The protagonist is the lead character of a story, which means the character is just the focal point of the story and does not have to be aligned with the side of good to be considered a lead. Kazuya has been an antagonist ever since Tekken 2, Jin is more fitting as the main and more consistant protagonist of the series imo
Dead or Alive 5 story is weird but to my understanding no one wants to help Kasumi because that Kasumi is a clone
My bad. I forgot those details over the years since the story has come out. The fact that she thought she was the real Kasumi made it confusing when I refreshing myself on her parts of the DOA5 story. At least I got all the Raidou stuff correct!
@@MrTopTenList
I don't understand this. I just happen to watch a video about the story of Kasumi a few weeks ago
@@minakohiashi8882 You said it correctly. She was a clone that thought she was the real thing. She didn't know she was a clone
Kasumi sucks and she's a pedo.
Great job! I think the footage we provided enhanced it big time. Looks like it's doing well!

I thought it pretty much changes depending on the game since t6 was Lars and t7 was either kazuya or heihachi since he's quote on quote dead.
Whether you like it or not kasumi is the main character of that serious despite being a boring ass Mary Sue character with no personality.

Not to mention his abilities are pretty damn powerful. In all fairness, at least Terry was put quite high on the list.
Yup that's why Terry was nerfed in all the crossovers. Capcom knew Ryu wouldn't win.
@Ne Ws I’m sure those “most people” are fans from the Smash community correct? Cause when Terry got revealed, I could tell that none of them have at least played KOF at a laundromat.

Kazuya is not easy, neither is he top tier. And heihachi was more hero in the story than kazuya tbh. Kazuya is full of hate and seeks world Domination. What a hero.
Malo Lupo exacly, Heihachi was more of a good guy in desguise, but Kazuya has been reckless and truly evil ever since Tekken 2
NOUM They all just seem like Chaotic Good
Kazuya is mid tier to mid-high tier at least.

Akira is not a Shoto clone.
@@MrTopTenList the learning curve for VF is described as "you're running on a treadmill, then there's a cliff that curves over you, and people are falling on you."

A good list. I agree with your choices. On the subject of which of them is most fun to play as, I'd say Sol as my #1 and Terry as my #2.
Come on, Jin is definitely the main character character. Kazuya is the purest representation of the mishima playstyle but Jin is the one who embodies the basics of tekken completely.
I wanna give off some extra info to you since i watched the whole thing (If im wrong let me know just dont be an ass about it)
There actually is story in Virtua Fighter just that they dont make any story modes which is why i think people still like Virtua Fighter and that they don't make it prominent.

Keep in mind:
The original Japanese title of Darkstalkers is ヴァンパイア - Vampire.
During development Felicia was originally the femme fatale feline (like Catwoman or Black Cat) while Morrigan was originally the she-vampire glamour girl (based on Dracula’s daughter), their roles were officially switched during the final game.

@@platinumthetrinity7067 I don't think so. They look more badass to me wouldn't you agree everyone around?
Sorry, skipped right to the number 1 slot. Glad that was your choice, my favorite fighter!

Akira also appeared in dengeki bunko fighting climax
love ur vids, i sub
Thanks!
