It looked to me like he started the race with a strategy. Put some distance between him and Nick, then get a good rest for his finishing kick.

Despite DD wins, the race between Captain Tom & Bison cheer me up
I carry a 35 lb kettlebell every day when I walk and switch hands every mile or so. Do this for grip exercise and to work on my balance.
Thats about 15% of my bodyweight but I do around 4-5 miles a day with it.
This man and his content both are pure Gold 🥇.

Nick Symmonds is so nice and wholesome.
On the other hand, The Bison is a beast who can sense weakness and pounce on struggling athletes on the Track.
This is great for mental toughness. Especially since it's a DB and not an evenly distributed weight vest or a pack for traditional rucking.
Oh have planned to do that with KBs for a long time. Like 5k. Gonna get that going soon. Got inspired now😊
When I'm watching your videos I have realised I like more running events than strength events. I think it migth be because you are former runner I feel your running events are more creative than strength events and therefore more enjoyable to watch.
I'd like to see a video where there is Murph competition agaist Captain Tom and some other athletes.

I was just thinking how you and Mitchell Hooper should do something like a bodyweight yoke race for 400m. He used to run marathons and he won world's strongest man.
Insane workout right there. I figured Tom would beat you. Being a soldier I'm sure he has run with weight plenty of times in his life.
I'm about Captain Tom's age (43) and I have to say, age really does play a big part in these kinds of fitness challenges. As strong and as fit as a 40-year-old man is, he's never going to be able to keep up with a kid half his age. Bones, joints, muscles are just too aged by that point to be flexible enough to stay competitive with 20-year-olds no matter how hard you train. But it's really good to see them try.

I tried running 5+ miles with 25lbs back when I was about 155 lbs and got to about 3.5mi when I had to stop. A single mile with about 50lbs would be tough for sure
At 280 lbs I haven’t been able to get faster than 10 minutes but I am working on it and working out 3-5 times a week to get there. Cant wait until I make it sun 10
