To clarify a few quick things: The Primarch of the Ultramarines (blue marines) is named Roboute Guilliman (ruh-boo-tay gill-lee-man). Bricky making funny names for him is a running gag at how easily you can mess up his name and call him something funnier like Ro-booty gorilla-man. The Blood Angels being “gay” for Sanguinius is meant to imply that the Blood Angels legion often have a huge focus on dedicating themselves their legion to their Primarch, Sanguinius, who gave his life to fight Horus and help the Imperium survive. He was one of the best primarch dads to their legion of sons. The Dark Angels one in regards to how they will do everything in their power to prevent any and all of their secrets from getting out, particularly about a splinter group of dark angels who turned traitor during the Horus Heresy known simply as The Fallen. There’s a common joke online that the dark angels are secretly traitors due to the existence of the Fallen, hence the joke Bricky made. They’re so strict about ensuring their inner circle secrets stay secrets that they are known to abandon entire campaigns just to deal with mere rumours. They’re a lot better in recent lore but back then they often got on the bad side of the Imperial officials because they were so shady And yes, in the official lore, there are no female space marines because all the primarchs were made male and thus their genetics are incompatible with the female body, meaning they would be guaranteed to die on the operating table. Outside the offical lore, you’re free to say that your army of space marines are from a chapter made up entirely of women because the best part of the community really doesn’t care about that, we’re just happy to have someone to play the game with and check out how cool your models look
I just want to add as a blood angel , that the players themselves are also super gay for sanguinius. Whether we admit it or not, it's a fact. I can't not include him in my army
The Emperor's Children (not actual children) are literally gay for their Primarch. As in actually deeply in love with him. They're basically his harem.
@Trazynn The EC were once a lot better than that They all were once a lot better than that That was when we were alive. We aren't alive. It's 10k years later
Good one. I always remember the 1997 movie "Event Horizon", if you want to know a bit about chaos! It's a great start! Blood for the Blood God! Skulls for the skull throne!
Hooo boy, be prepared because this is one helluva deep rabbit hole. I gotta say that you chose the perfect guide to help you get started. Bricky is a goat in this fandom.
The thing is, the imperium didn’t used to be like this. 10,000 years prior when the Emperor was alive it was a near utopia and humanity even worked with alien races. Once the whole Horus heresy kicked off those so called alien “friends” backstabbed humanity when we were at our weakest. The Imperium is the way it is because of the state of the universe, if it wasn’t it would have fallen long ago.
Great place to start getting a VERY rough overview of the factions. Keep going with Bricky for the total basics. Cause 40K started back in '87 there is more than a bit of lore & it has changed MANY times over the years. The Black Templars for example (doesn't matter what changed right now). If you want the more detailed & EXCEPTIONALLY accurate breakdowns, as you already know, check out Lieutin. If you want super accurate lore, but told in a slightly more story telling fashion, Baldermort is the guy to go to. AMAZING work. As someone who has been into this lore since '89 I will vouch for this pairs knowledge & attention to detail. I hope everyone has an amazing week & much love to everyone from this Olde Dark Angel in the UK
Thank you so much for the recommendation! Bricky's videos are super helpful for new people like me to get a glimpse of what Warhammer 40k is about, so need to watch all of those first before moving on to more complex lore videos!

I play warharmmer 40k for fun. I don't know where you are but, you can go in a "warharmmer shop" for have more tools. And, if you like read. You have the "Black library" for so many books on this univers. (I council Asenhorn saga for beginner)
@@ti8ickNo, the "Black Library" is the books sections of "Games Workshop", the company that runs Warhammer. If you want their books that's you go to the Black Library But if you actually want good beginner books that are interesting, I'd recommended: 1. *Horus Rising* (see how the Heresy starts and how great humanity was) 2. *Gaunt's Ghosts* (Great writing, you see how the Imperial Guard operates) 3. *Inquisitor Eisenhorn* (Interesting, written from Inquisitors perspective so lots of mystery and action) 4. *Infinite and the Divine* (Very good writing, shows comedy is present in 40k. Is from Necron perspective)
The fantasy version (which is just called Warhammer, or now "the old world") is even more vast but more traditionally fantasy themed. Recently the world in that franchise ended and became something named "age of Sigmar"
Age of Sigmar is 7 years old now. 40k has gone through 3 whole Editions in that time, I don't think I'd call it recent. The first year of its existence was a joke though, so I can see how that might make it seem younger.
I really like the way he explained how in WH40K everyone is the villain and that is part of its charm. That's exactly why when I first started playing I chose Chaos. If you have to be the bad guy you might as well go all out. Though over the years as I learned more of the lore I started to question if the Imperium isn't actually more evil.
The planet Cadia was a critical Fortress-World, defending a vital part of Space and preventing the armies of the Chaos factions from overrunning enormous parts of the Galaxy. It was ruthlessly destroyed in a setting-shattering War by the central Chaos/Bad-guy Warlord: Abaddon the Despoiler. This did mortal damage to the Imperium via the Great Rift.
Yeah, space marines are pretty much a boys only club. You can do whatever you want on tabletop but official lore there isn't any female space marines. Mainly because at the time he never figured it out and now messing with anything the Emperor had a hand in is heresy. You knowing better than your god and all that. Personally, I think that's fine. It makes them and the Sisters unique in their own way. Both having different strengths and weaknesses that equal them out but that's me. Like for the Sisters, they can perform miracles like just deciding their bolt round pierce any armor or ignoring damage through faith alone. Also, 40k doesn't really have a single canon of power scaling. So, some stories a guardsman can kill a space marine with 1 well placed knife throw. In another, 1 will go through 1,000 people without issue. I mention this because he's going off of the tabletop, which is obviously balanced, so you don't have to have a force of 1,000 men per 1 space marine model, but tabletop is pretty much on the weak side. Still, everyone has a different idea in their head what these people can do.
Additional videos by Bricky I recommend are the "Every Space Marine Legion" (it goes into more detail about each of the legions) and "Timeline of Warhammer 40k" (this one was made semi-recently and it really ties a lot of things together as well as additional lore/information) Those aren't the exact titles of the videos but they're also by Bricky and they're great
@@Hello-bp8dx Our beloved Flashlight Fellas may be kind of basic desing wise compared to the other factions, but being basic in fucking WARHAMMER 40.000 is nothing to sneeze at honestly. Anyways, CADIA STANDS!

The Warhammer part of the name comes from Warhammer Fantasy which was the original Warhammer game. One of the big boy important characters from that universe, Sigmar, wielded the eponymous Warhammer. That universe was killed off by Games Workshop in order to usher in their new fantasy IP, Age of Sigmar (which is somewhat related to the old one), but they have since resurrected it as of like a week ago, in the form of their new tabletop game "The Old World". So, old WH Fantasy is still very much alive through the new tabletop game and of course a bunch of video games that are set in that universe, the biggest of which is probably Total War: Warhammer. If you think you'd be interested in Fantasy, the Total War trailers might be worth checking out, they're pretty cool cinematics.
@@_d-- That was the case originally yes since Harald was the first named WH character but the Warhammer symbol is literally Sigmar's hammer. As the setting progressed it came to be synonymous with Ghal Maraz.
Even if you never play a single game the lore can suck you in. The best part is that the universe is so flushed out that it has a lot of everything for everyone.
This is like the 5th time in a week where I hear people asking if there are women Space Marines. I don't know if its a meme or if its a genuine question. I will say based on the body modification, mental indoctrination, and gene seed shenanigans, be happy you can't be a Space Marine. Plus, Sisters of Battle have better aesthetics. Commissars have better lore, Assassins get Black Widow catsuits, and Inquistors can also get a Modified Power Armor, but they "drive" it more than they wear them. Inquisitor Amberley Vail wore power armor similar to space marines in one of the Cain books. And it she didn't even need redundant vital organs jammed in her without anesthesia! Ciaphas sure did a lot of jamming though!!
Wait, I just figured out how you can play as Female Space Marines. The 2nd and 11th Legion. GW intentionally left them Blank to give the players a chance to make their own chapter, lore, and play style. In Canon, they did something so terrible they were struck from all records. I cannot emphasize enough on how you should try to watch.Videos on individual characters such as trazyn the infinite, which is one of my personal favorites? You learn a lot more about the lore.Through the stories they tell
One big mistake he did was telling people the Emperor colonized the galaxy. He did not do that for the most part. He reunited remnants of humanity left over of the collapse of the Federation of Mankind after conquering Terra. And he needed more than 5000 years to get his act together and conquer it. The Federation collapsed 25k AD because the Aeldari Remnants, the Eldar, literaly murderf***** Slaanesh into existence, warpstorms and turbolences in the warp everywhere made the used FTL unusable and the Iron Men killed most of the human military and huge part of the civillian population (since they made up a huge part of the military, they did most of the heavy work in the Federation military)
TBH Don't worry about 'catching up' with 40K, even for old farts who have been around since forever only the truly obsessed have absorbed it all. The sane focus on bits and pieces that sound the most fun to them, and slowly branch out from there. There's also a bit of a disconnect between old lore, new lore, and meme lore. Warhammer 40K started off called Rogue Trader, and it was created in 80's Britain by a bunch of nerds. The national outlook at the time was pretty bleak (it's the same environment that gave birth to V for Vendetta and Judge Dredd), and this group of nerds made a setting full of their favorite nerd stuff and give them something to laugh about. So they blatantly stole ideas from other sci-fi settings (Dune and Starship Troopers 'influences' are all over), tossed in political satire (being a fascist, industrial machine that doesn't care about normal people is a common accusation thrown at Thatcher Britain and is the Imperium state of being), and made it so over the top that you just had to laugh at it. This is the old lore. In the late 90's and early 00's, a couple of things converged to shift gears. The company (it grew past a group of nerds to a proper business) realized that they had the ability to make some serious bank, Britain didn't have as desolate of an outlook for the normal people, and western culture was shifting hard into the 'gritty, realistic' portrayal of their stuff. As a consequence, 40K started to cut away the more outrageous parts of their setting, everything started to take itself more seriously, and GW (the company behind 40K) started to realize that someone could do to them what they did to other sci-fi properties so they started to be aggressive in 'defending' their IP. The lore started to expand a _lot_ , not as many goofy things were put in, everything had to start making more sense in a grounded way in universe, and they started to give everything copyrightable names so no one could take the ideas and modify it to their own. This is also the time that the CEO (GW by this time grew big enough to have one of these) outright stated that they were a miniatures company first, game company second and their rules for their game started to reflect that. He lost his position a couple of years later when it was clear that wasn't working. This is the new lore, and has been trucking along these lines until modern times. Then there's the meme lore. Where people throw in stuff that they make up because it either makes more sense to them or they just like it more and take stuff out that they don't like or doesn't make sense to them. They take throwaway lines and make them into big deals, take big deals of the setting and minimize, if not outright ignore them. Internal consistency doesn't matter at all as long as each separate, independent thing is funny. Personally, I like old lore more then the other two. Meme lore is closer to old lore then new lore but it doesn't have enough consistency for me for the setting. New lore takes itself _way_ too seriously (and in turn, makes people take the setting more seriously) for my tastes and leads to the problems like attracting more people who like fascism unironically or are horribly racist. Bricky is a meme lore kindof guy, so while he does get a lot of it right, meme funny takes precedent over consistency, accuracy, or satire.
As much as I like Warhammer, I do miss the days of Games Workshop and White Dwarf largely being focused on TSR and D&D. As a kid I spent as much time in there as I could until my parents got bored and dragged me out.
Cadia was the frontline of the fight against Chaos. An entire world (fortress world) that was dedicated to protecting humanity and exterminating their enemies. They were literally the blockade at the opening of a hell portal (Eye of Terror) in the physical universe. As long as I've been into 40k they were always in the fight and constantly under siege by the forces of Chaos attempting to break into reality. And then the planet got suicide bombed by Abbadon the Despoiler (after Caida beat his ass twice) and broke apart. That led to the rallying cry, "Cadia broke before the Guard did". One of my favorite videos by the Templin Institute (which I'll link) said it perfectly. "For even as the planet split apart, and its remnants were consumed by the Eye of Terror, the red streaks of firing lasguns could still be seen in darkness. Defenders of Cadia refusing to give in, even as their world cracked and burned around them." ruclips.net/video/nkWRjrEq4lI/видео.html
So, the very beginning - before warhammer 40k was warhammer 40k - there was Space Crusade, and Space Hulk... it grew into a vast franchise from there. I got space crusade when it first came out, and the expansion to it later.
Cadia is a sore spot for Warhammer 40k fans....so Cadia was a Planet what was basically the front line against Chaos, because it was positioned right outside the Eye of Terror which is a region of Space that is a direct connection to the Warp, thank the Eldar for that. Basically in recent Lore during the current Black Crusade by the Black Legion, Failbadon or Abbadon the Despoiler rammed a moon sized ship into the planet to crack it like an egg.
11:12 if you're upset about the whole "thousand psykers" situation, this is just a minor issue. As for the origin of these psychic individuals, the Imperium spans over a million worlds. Due to this vast expanse, humans excel at breeding, and a substantial number possess psychic abilities. When these abilities manifest, the initial response is to isolate and capture these psychics. Subsequently, a black ship arrives to transport them, determining whether they become licensed psychics for the battlefield, are sacrificed to the Emperor, or sent to a cult of Assassins. Considering the million worlds and the continuous emergence of psychic abilities in humans, the supply is unlikely to diminish soon. It's worth noting that the Imperium's capabilities extend beyond this; explore servitors, Hive City underbellies, and industrial planets to witness the war crimes committed against humanity.
People who bitch about the fact that the Space Marines are only males, tend to forget that the Adepta Sororitas ( Sisters of Battle) are much more badass then the SM, in the lore. Space Marines need all kinds of genetic & cybernetic enhancements to do what they do. Sisters of Battle don't have any of this, they're baseline female humans but they go out and kick the shit out of Chaos Daemons, Traitor Marines and all kinds of Alien species. During the ''Reign of Blood'' and the imperial civil war that occurred then, the Sisters repelled an attack of several Space Marine Chapters, that's speaks volumes on how good they're in battle. Their faith in the Emperor is so strong, that some of them can even perform ''miracles'' and become ''Living Saints'', who are the equivalent of a Daemon Prince and have the ability to return from death. Like for example Saint Celestine, who is pretty much a badass ''warrior angel'' complete with wings made out of psykic energy and a flaming sword, who has died in battle and resurrected to fight again, numerous times. And then there are the Sisters of Silence, who are one of the most OP and elite units of the Imperium. These ladies can even take down a Primarch, using their ''anti-psyker'' ability.
"they" don't care. All "they" want is to destroy people's hobbies and interests with their identity politics. It doesn't matter that there is an entire faction of female only characters. They want a faction of female space marines or female whatever. And these people aren't even the target demographic, they change things then move on to the next "problematic" hobby. Kind of like nurgle. Everything they touch turns to shit.
If I remember correctly, Game Workshop ( the people who own warhammer ) used to have female space marine models, but the community at the time didn’t buy them, so GW stopped making them and made a lore reason as to why there are no female space marines.
TBF the current mentality of GW is to keep them unknown officially so that people can head canon whatever they want into those slots, so it's perfectly fair to believe that.
I agree the Imperial Guards are kinda basic, but their books are surprisingly fun. Gaunt's Ghosts is awesome and there are some really cool female characters, like Minka Lesk, Severina Raine and Ursula Creed is my new favorite (yes i bought her mini just because i liked the book :P )
17:37 Nothing happened to them. Cadia stands 🥲 (or the warp tore the galaxy in two, and a legion a chaos space marines attacked from this new devils anus in the sky, decimating the planet.)
About "1000 souls per day" - i don`t know what chaos spewer said that. It`s a complete BS. Throne is autonomus, it doesn`t need such sacrafices, nore the Emperor. There was a man - Malcador the Sigillite, one of the most loyal of Empereor`s servants, and Imperium brightest minds. He came up with many great things, one of which was Astronomicon Choir. It`s an enormously huge construct, overwhelmingly complex, full of psykers and imperial best tecnology, created with only 1 purpose - to serve an Emperor`s replacement in Astronomocon, for some time, at least. There are hundreds of thousands (600 000, if i remember it correctly) of, so called "singers", psykers, who "sing" in it. It`s one of the highest honors of Imperium - to become a Singer, it`s more honorable, then position of the Head of Adeptus Astronomica, and he, btw - one of the Highest Lords of Terra - those people, who, basicly, comands the whole Imperium. They don`t take any random psyker to Singer`s position, and it`s completely voluntarily (Who needs a discord in a Choir?). Problem is - stress on those psykers is so high, that they don`t live long in that Choir. And they completely aware of their perspectives. Despite of it - they willingly giving their lives to Imperium. I don`t know, how it could be percieved as "Sacraficing 1000 souls a day to the corpse on throne". It`s a completetly heretical point of view. Sorry for possible mistakes, English is not my basic .

And yes, in the official lore, there are no female space marines because all the primarchs were made male and thus their genetics are incompatible with the female body, meaning they would be guaranteed to die on the operating table.
@@eikthesheik this is true. We fly for the Great Angel
The Emperor's Children (not actual children) are literally gay for their Primarch. As in actually deeply in love with him. They're basically his harem.

Always fun when someone first hears about the Salamanders "They are all black..." *dramatic stare*
I wish you much fun with Brickys videos. He explain it very funny.

Rejoice brothers and sisters, a new soul falls to the grimdark! 🎉
Hooo boy, be prepared because this is one helluva deep rabbit hole. I gotta say that you chose the perfect guide to help you get started. Bricky is a goat in this fandom.
17:40 The only thing you need to remember about Cadia is that it broke before the guard did.
😭
The only thing you need to know about Cadia that it blew up. Pretty much all it's known for
Thank you for reacting to Bricky's content!!
'Roboute Guilliman'
Lots of fans lovingly screw up his name as a joke.
Welcome to the Warhammer Universe
Thank you! The Emperor protects
Xenos = alien
So basically anything that isn't human, the imperium calls Xenos.
Remember that when it came to Cadia the planet broke before the guard did!!
@@ti8ick I'd be tempted to say to try to get in touch with Bricky & see if he'll ok you doing reactions to the Adeptus Ridiculus podcast he does. Great laughs & he does a bit more research as he does those so is actually learning finer details along with everyone else
I play warharmmer 40k for fun.
I don't know where you are but, you can go in a "warharmmer shop" for have more tools.
And, if you like read. You have the "Black library" for so many books on this univers. (I council Asenhorn saga for beginner)
Thank you! I was actually looking for a good book recommendation for a beginner
@@ti8ickNo, the "Black Library" is the books sections of "Games Workshop", the company that runs Warhammer. If you want their books that's you go to the Black Library
But if you actually want good beginner books that are interesting, I'd recommended:
1. *Horus Rising* (see how the Heresy starts and how great humanity was)
2. *Gaunt's Ghosts* (Great writing, you see how the Imperial Guard operates)
3. *Inquisitor Eisenhorn* (Interesting, written from Inquisitors perspective so lots of mystery and action)
Technically 2
The Old World and Age of Sigmar
@@onionhat745 in comparison to the old world, age of sigmar is a baby
@@Maxisamo1 did you even read my comment?
I really like the way he explained how in WH40K everyone is the villain and that is part of its charm. That's exactly why when I first started playing I chose Chaos. If you have to be the bad guy you might as well go all out. Though over the years as I learned more of the lore I started to question if the Imperium isn't actually more evil.
yip only in 40k can the blood Crazed Vampire Psycos who want to kill everything in front of them be the Good Guys.
Welcome to the Grimdark universes (yes plural) of 40k. We welcome you. Have you heard of our lord and savior Gandpapa Nurgle.
23:00 Yes, they are called Sisters of Battle, now move alone citizen, before i call the Holy Inquisition...
Warhammer 40K is so funny because you'll be so overwhelmed by how awful something is that you kind of just have to laugh out of pure disbelief
YES! this! hahah it also is to me
Trust me kiddo. If you knew what humanity knew about psykers, you'd be throwing them on the black ships for Terra just as quick as everyone else.
TIMELINE of the 40K UNIVERSE by Warrior Tier is also a great one to react to.
Thank you! Added it to my watch list
Additional videos by Bricky I recommend are the "Every Space Marine Legion" (it goes into more detail about each of the legions) and "Timeline of Warhammer 40k" (this one was made semi-recently and it really ties a lot of things together as well as additional lore/information) Those aren't the exact titles of the videos but they're also by Bricky and they're great
Me watching every reactor call my faction basic 🥲
Oh nooooooo hahahaha I was thinking about it while editing and actually felt bad for saying that lol They’re pretty cool ok ❤
@@ti8ick it’s ok, I get it lol. Guard is very much a faction you either love or think is a little boring
@@Hello-bp8dx Our beloved Flashlight Fellas may be kind of basic desing wise compared to the other factions, but being basic in fucking WARHAMMER 40.000 is nothing to sneeze at honestly. Anyways, CADIA STANDS!
They are basic but that is at the same time what makes them special. Anyone else is super powerful making the guard soldier by soldier the weakest faction but they still manage to be one of the strongest factions overall.
I have already been browsing Warhammer and Warhammer 40k games to play next. Total War, Dawn of War and Mechanicus look very interesting
@@ti8ickAll those are good options of you're into those top down RTS style games, same as Rogue Trader
The Warhammer name didn't come from sigmar. It came from Harry, the very first model!!! Harald Hammerstorm Is the true wielder of the WARHAMMER
Its crazy that I've been a fan of 40k for a year already 😮 it has consumed my life & welcome to the fandom!
"Psykers are people too"
*agigated Mortarion noises*
You can say they altered their Geneseed. Buy a generic Space Marines box, 3D print some heads (Or take them from the sisters of Battle/Assassins/Militarium)
Boom! Female Space Marines!

He luckily addressed that in his new 40k Timeline video
@@darnok6407
And then he made new mistakes there
Not people. Psykers.
The 20/18 sons part is an easteregg for those of us who know.
Defenders of Cadia refusing to give in, even as their world cracked and burned around them."

So, the very beginning - before warhammer 40k was warhammer 40k - there was Space Crusade, and Space Hulk... it grew into a vast franchise from there. I got space crusade when it first came out, and the expansion to it later.
If we ever have girl space marine, it will happened in the Chaos side, because Fabius is the only one who can do this kind of move.
“I’m not a heretical viewer” “Psykers are people too” 🤔 the inquisitors would like to know your location /s
HAHAHAH
Cadia is a sore spot for Warhammer 40k fans....so Cadia was a Planet what was basically the front line against Chaos, because it was positioned right outside the Eye of Terror which is a region of Space that is a direct connection to the Warp, thank the Eldar for that. Basically in recent Lore during the current Black Crusade by the Black Legion, Failbadon or Abbadon the Despoiler rammed a moon sized ship into the planet to crack it like an egg.
One thing that you must know about the 40k universe are two simple words: ¡CADIA STANDS!

Thank you, added it to my watchlist!
Playing warhammer total war eventually led to me getting into warhammer 40k
Please report to your nearest Arbites Fort for processing. Thought of the day: Ignorance is the shield of Faith.
I miss Cadia
would love to see you play the games :D, btw cute antlers and face paint ^^
"Chaos is not bad " also chaos ripping the universe in alf and killing trilions of soul in like 10 minute?( fall of cadia)
Only because they threw a necron battle station at the planet.

If I remember correctly, Game Workshop ( the people who own warhammer ) used to have female space marine models, but the community at the time didn’t buy them, so GW stopped making them and made a lore reason as to why there are no female space marines.
So far I've only seen lore explanations why female space marines don't exist lol this is quite curious

MOAR incoming soon tm
Sorry, but the lore says that the augmentation process goes haywire if attempted on a female candidate.

I have a personal theory that the two expunged primarchs/legions were women.

TBF the current mentality of GW is to keep them unknown officially so that people can head canon whatever they want into those slots, so it's perfectly fair to believe that.

I have 1 word for calling out space marines girls Heresy
