I love this interviewer, he never interrupts. This is how interviews should be done.

A very great actor, and sadly under appreciated...his voice alone is priceless...

This was so exciting! I assumed it was going to be an interview done 20 years after the show ended, not concurrent with the height of public enthusiasm while new shows were being made. I was 4 years old when this interview was broadcast, watched the show with my family, and well-remember running and hiding under my bed at the scariest times.
Barnabas had such an aura about him that I thought even as an adult that if I ever saw Jonathan Frid he would have this same aura and I would subliminally feel it.
It's a testimony to Jonathan Frid's great acting that I get nothing Barnabas-like in any of his interviews. As himself, he comes across as amazingly kind and gentle.

+Matilda Woodhouse and most surprisingly both Mr Frid and Mrs. Hall were both older people when they did the show and yet they were very patient with the DS fans, more so of Mr. Frid On breaks, the actors used to go downstairs to the door of the studio lobby and great the fans waiting outside, sign autographs and pose for pics Mr. Frid was so patient and went all over the place making public appearances to promote the show

I loved his character on Dark Shadows. I always felt sorry for Barnabus. I’d love to view Jonathan Frid in other productions as he was an excellent actor

Did you know that actor Johnny Depp was a huge fan of Jonathan's too. Depp used to call DS actress Kathryn L Scott and ask her all kinds of questions about the show and about Frid. Then, then he asked them to be in his movie that they made. That must have been soooo exciting. I remember that shirtless poster you had of Johnny Depp from the late 1990's , so cool. Do you still have it ??

It is nice to hear his natural voice. I see your name in facebook comments a lot.

I always thought BC was one of the most diverse characters on the screen ever. He was a hero, an antihero, a villain, old, young, human, a vampire, and sometimes possessed by ancient evil entities. One of the reasons the audience never got bored watching him.
Still, it's kind of funny to see so many men marvel at the success of DS now and then. You always hear lines in interviews like, (male reporter asking a male DS writer) "what do you think is it about JF that appeals so much to the audience?" writer: "I have no clue!"
this interviewer asks pretty much the same thing. And then JF goes, "well, I have a few ideas about that, but I don't want to come across as conceited" I guess he did have the right idea after all. 😂

18:30 - 18:50/ Not trying to read too much into that choice on the part of the staff writers, but when Ron Barry brought up that early common denominator, I started to wonder....
A good portion of the characters did have 3 syllables in their name. Were the writers hinting at the past, present, and future? Note how DARK SHADOWS utilized multiple timelines throughout the series. Actions of the past altering future events by way of present-day characters' interactions with the supernatural!❤

Do you have any more of these tapes?
Ron Barry was my father!!!! He passed away in 1995. I would love to hear these things again.

      Hi,
      Thanks for reaching out.
I have three of them that are not commercially available on my page. There are a couple others that are commercially available on the Dark Shadows soundtrack album on iTunes. I would link them to you, but sometimes links are not allowed in youtube comments.

***** I have the 2 that were included on the first soundtrack album. Imagine my surprise when I listened to that for the first time!
When you say you have 3, are you referring to the 3 parts of this interview, or do you have this one and 2 others?

Interesting interview, and fun to hear more than just the few segments I've heard before. It is good to hear his natural voice. The parts about Barnabas' insecurities in dealing with the 20th century, and how he decided to play Barnabas are fascinating. We've read much of this in print, ie., the "reluctant" vampire, etc., but it is made all the more informative when heard in his voice.

Thank you so very much for posting these radio interviews. JF really shared much great in depth information about himself , Dark Shadows, and his life. These three interviews surpass most of what I have read in print. We get to know the man behind Barnabas. Does anyone know where I can purchase these on CD? I am planning on buying the full DS DVD collection soon and I know it has many extras. Does anyone know if these interviews are part of it? Thank you again!!!!
