For myself
.Start with darker shades
.Apply pressure on first layer
.Overlap the colors
.Blend from light to dark
I've recently started my artistic journey with oil pastels and I have to say, this video was super helpful (even for a beginner like me). Thank you so much!!
Nice
I did like a thousands of drawings
😂
@@DeshArt mam mam mam mam you are awesome
The method with the dots looks amazing! Want to try this out soon !!
Instead of paper stomps I love using so called "colour shapers", they look like brushes with a rubber tip and you can blend details sooo smoothly without wasting lot of product
I agree on the idea of stippling & scrambling requiring more patience than I normally can muster. if I use that technique, it will be on VERY small sections of a piece, even tho the results are beautiful! Thanks so much for the well demonstrated & explained techniques!
You are most welcome and thank you for watching!
The tip about the acrylic underlayer is amazing! Makes a lot of difference! Thank you 🙏
You're welcome! I'm glad it helped.
I have been struggling with depression for a while so I have a difficult time expressing myself so I started using oil pastels and paint just to relieve stress and express myself. This is super helpful cause I want the work to at least make sense or be lookable 😂😂 when completed.
Thank you for sharing your teaching! I look forward to watching more of your videos. Bless you. Peace be with you.
this is the only videos that actually helped me! thank you!
A few other blending methods I use:
1. Extra firm silicone sculpting tools (clay or colour shapers). They come in a variety of tip shapes & sizes, the chisel being my favorite as I can use it to make clean edges. Small ones are great for detailed areas and large ones are almost as effective as finger-blending. With the extra-soft pastels you can even put some pastel on the tip and "paint" with it much like a brush. Unlike a brush, though, it's non-porous and will not absorb the pigment. Cleanup is easy -- just wipe with a paper towel.
2. Cotton swabs. You can dip them in mineral oil prior to blending for a washy effect. I don't use these as often because the cotton fibers like to get stuck to the drawing surface. Also, when using with student-grade pastels, they tend to remove a lot of the pigment from the paper.
I have read about using a vinyl eraser meant for pencils to blend oil pastels, but this hasn't worked for me. It just rubs the color off.
As always, great video, quality content. :)
For oil wash I use waterbrush and fill it with oil. No cotton pieces on paper
Thank you, beautiful work, and I have to agree it's very helpful. I am just starting out on oil pastels to, so thank you for that wonderful tip.
Your welcome
I've been using oil pastels for so long and this video helps me alot. Thank you so much!
This was so incredibly helpful. Thank you 💚 Honestly more helpful than the last in person art teacher I had.
I'm so glad! Thank you so much for watching!
Thank you so much!!! Imma try my oil pastels now. I hope we can see more of you from now on!!!
One more..eraser pencil, sharpened to a point for details, or bigger, flatter eraser surface for larger areas. I actually liked this more than stumps or fingers…but it’s probably because when I first began painting Yantras with oil pastels-I’d never worked with them before and had absolutely NO idea what I was doing. All my yantras were also done on handmade silk/cotton paper made in India. I had people swear they HAD to be watercolors or oils because of how I did them…NOPE! JUST me over 20yrs ago, finding a meditative, beautiful art form I loved.
In recent years I’ve been doing Chinese brush painting, and now western watercolors. I’d all but forgotten that I still have some yantras and paper…AND some oil pastels! I just couldn’t find another eraser pencil (it’s just wood w an eraser in the middle instead of lead)-until now. My best friend, a professional watercolor artist wants me to get back into it, maybe paint florals or landscapes instead of yantras. I haven’t decided yet..my plate is a bit full at the moment. But, I purchased 3 eraser pencils..in case I change my mind! 😁. (Actually, after typing this..I think I might experiment on some Chinese Xuan paper..it’s much thinner than my cotton-silk paper, but it’s pretty tough!)
How amazing! Great idea too. I will be trying that as soon as I get the time. Enjoyed your description. I always like to hear what other artists do. Thanks for visiting!
New to oil pastels! Planning to start my oil pastel journey!
This video was so helpful!!
Thank you✨
I love stippling as you can get some really cool effects that way. Its also a great stress reliever:)
It really is! Takes time and patience though. :)
@@DeshArt Aye, it does but pretty much any art thing will take some time. Just noticed that on your video you are using the same brand and set of oil pastels that I have been using. They're really nice to use. Very creamy.

When I try to blend my oil pastels (MUNGYO) with a finger - almost all the pastel material stick to the finger and the paper become just slightly covered with pastel. Could you give me any advice in this direction?

Thank you!! :) this helped a lot. i'm doing this for school, along with other videos :)
You are really talented artist. Loved to visit your channel.
Wonderful Tips.... But I think we may use cotton also as a blending method.
You should get some silicone tip brushes. You can blend in super fine details with amazing control and it doesn’t waste the pigments or lift them
Really helpful info. Thank you👍
Thank you for your tips.
Could you please tell me the rational behind the acrylic wash for oil pastels? I've seen artists put a light brown wash for acrylic paintings but this is the first time I'm seeing the same for oil pastels.
Thank u for ur time
Acrylic is a permanent paint, and it does not interact with oil pastels. This makes it a perfect medium for underpaintings. You can use watercolors too. Or even a harder oil pastel brand. I usually don't paint the whole thing using oil pastels. If you check out the oil pastel paintings on my channel, you'll see that this is the method I almost always use.
Thank you alot. i'm shocked that this video has few views
