@@paulgilbert3139 And where do you think "speed metal" came from? So to say "speed metal" is not also rock would be like saying you aren't in the same family as your grandpa. 😂
I was never a fan of that "squeal" kind of vocals so I think Jeff's voice improved with time, he has this cool deep range added to his voice these days, reminds me of Gary Barden at times and of David Coverdale before he turned into a little sassy bitch xDDD
@@FeelingShred funny, calling a great singer a sassy bitch while you bitch like a little child. Nice display of your maturity & subjective opinion which no one here cares about.
That's Mike Varney announcing them. Very cool dude. I sent him a demo in the early 80s. Even though nothing came of it, he sent me a reply and urged me to continue and welcomed future demos from me. Put a huge smile on my face and gave me alot of confidence. Without Mike, you'd never known of Paul Gilbert, Yngwie Malmsteen and alot of others.
Don't forget Michael Schenker as well. Mike Varney brought so much cool stuff to us, as did Eddie Trunk, these guys really did something to contribute to the movement instead of just sit around and complain, they made a difference.
me too brotha, will never get tired of this band, wish they would appear around even if it was only for a show once a year... Did John (bassist) ever recovered?
I had no idea Racer X sounded like this ,this singer is f..king amazing he could have replaced Rob Halford or been in K.K 's Priest! The guys are incredible!
Viva Racer X! Listen to this! Look at this! It's so much more than history... Obrigado por terem compartilhado, caras! Respect and Fun! Racer X represents and delivers... a lot!
The original Racer X albums had exactly the same blitzed out 80's style delay, so adding it for this performance is totally appropriate and it fits ... RACER X !!! Been a fan since 1988.
Not like this, this is over the top! And more important, the lead vocals are just too loud. The difference with the backing vocals is huge. Lousy soundman. Should have adjusted it the first seconds.
People can call this "cheese metal" all they want, and say Metallica or Slayer were actual metal....blah blah blah. The truth is that the behind the 80's hair metal schtick are four MASTERS of their craft. Paul on guitar? Juan on bass (who plays for the Mars Volta)? Scott Travis from Judas Priest? and Jeff Martin, who was and is 10x the showman and singer that David Lee Roth was? Mainstream metal has it's merits, but these guys are niche for a reason; because guitar and music theory nerds can't get enough of their skills. The average listener or Slayer troglodyte just WONT appreciate this. This is like audible crack to me. Their music was great and the only bad thing about it was being mixed and produced in the 80's. Listen to Rocco Pezzin covers of their stuff on RUclips and it proves how good the songs are on paper. Long live Racer X and the entire Metal subgenre of harmonized guitars and neo-classical!
Your completely outta your mind comparing Martin to Roth. Jeff Martin is what held this great band back. Horrible front man & his vocals were weak & that’s being kind.
@@uncleremus5046 Yeah, 10x better is an exaggeration, you're right. Jeff was still very good, but his "growl" style of metal singing and poor production (Varney vs Templeton) made him different from Diamond Dave in a bad way. Street Lethal is complete vocal diarrhea in a lot of parts, but by the time Technical Difficulties came out, Jeff proved his skills.
I think Jeff's vocals improved through the years, instead of that high pitched "squeal" of the old days now there's these deeper notes added to his vocal range, reminds me of David Coverdale and Gary Barden at times, I think it sounds awesome.
I was at this show, right up front! I had a pass, but not for the very front area up at the stage. So I just hopped over the barrier right in front of everyone in the middle of the floor and moved up to the stage! Epic.
pretty amazing how Jeff's style on voice is so anamated, when i learned it was Jeff not Eric Martin i was listening to in Badlands, i really had to say , ah ha! the vocal resonance is really consistent in this performance
Does anybody know if they have ever done a live version of "Bolt in my Heart" from Technical Difficulties?? If so is there a video? I love the solo in that song!
So much fun. Racer X was always a great live band to watch. Jeff Martin in top form after all these years. Anyone else think Jim Bruer with a blonde wig could pull it off??? lol.
He's also been more of a drummer these days so i can see if his vocals are a lil less than what they used to be he is still a good singer and an incredible drummer
I absolutely love Gilbert and this band but still scratch my head when I listen to them. It’s almost like a parody of all that is shred and British metal.
Demasiado talento, tremenda banda,a veces no se le hace justicia a estos mountros de músicos ,en cambio a otros cómo les va re bien, siendo tan simples,no voy a mencionar nombres😅😅
Doing this song and hearing this sharp voice almost every night for a lot of years would make the guitarist and members having hearing issues. He's got pitch shifter in his throat or something?
34:44 Frenzy solo Ooooooh yeah Omg shred with Delay. Pure Marshall shred. Move over, Edward. Ha. Love ya, Paul Gilbert. Paul makes me want to practice. 43:42 WOW what a Ibanez! oooh The Blue Iceman. Namm rocks! Jeff sure has the metal wail.
OK, Paul didn't look at the fretboard once in the Superheroes solo. I totally get being comfortable around the neck but c'mon. The solo is hard enough and he has to go and do it without looking. I am useless.
as far as I know he was responsible for production/mixing/mastering on Technical Difficulties and he did a hell of a job on that one, possibly my favorite album of all time, good lord
That's a good question. I'm not aware of any fallings out and last I heard he lives down the freeway from NAMM in Pedro... wtf He must have been busy with something else.
Racer X has to be one of the coolest band names in rock ever

To add some, Tony Macalpine, Vinnie Moore, Marty Friedman and Jadon Becker. Correct me if I am wrong.
