Yes, this is a good type of video. It’s helpful to see someone else struggle and then fix it. And not everything we create is perfect and easy. Thanks for this.

Happy birthday 🎉 Yes love these types of videos. It is so very important for beginners and intermediate students to see the whole process and what can we do if things go not according to plan or vision. That there are pens. And pencils and colored pencils and gel pens and other items that can help finish a painting. Some of us are very isolated in our journey and of very limited means. Videos like this are precious gems. Many thanks Lindsay 💜

This is the perfect video to demostrate that you can't judge a painting by the messy middle stage. I love how both paintings turned out ❤

I’m glad you posted this. So many people on social media and RUclips only show successes which gives novices a really unrealistic impression of what it is like to create art. So many content creators want you to believe that they create masterpieces every time they sit down to paint. ❤

I liked this style of video a lot. I enjoyed watching how another artist fixes a piece that goes awry and brings it back from a place we all find ourselves in at times.

If the water softener is only for the house you can use the outside water tap to get the minerals in the water without having to wait for the salt to be replaced in the softener. Our water softener is only for the house not the yard because the water from the softener isn't good for the plants...too much salt.
You saved that painting brilliantly! He's a cutie. Your feathers are wonderful as well. I want to add that book to my home library! I do like these types of videos! Keep em coming please. 😊

Lindsay, I just wanted to say that you are perfectly correct saying that supplies unused is the true waste. I was truly impressed by DaVinci watercolors they are commercially produced, professional grade paints and so reasonably priced for everyday use! This is why I am such a fanatic about that brand! I am truly glad that 100% cotton paper from every brand that I have tried have been so good! I know several artists that use combination papers as well, I think I might be to lazy or just don’t want to work so hard to make a budget supply work out. YES! To this style and length of this video. 😉

I love your painting. The lil birdie is so cute. Beautiful! Got one artist reference book while back after watching your video, and I love it. Good paints and paper saving for rainy day, guilty as charged. Last winter I used ALL my low quality/scrap paper and paint, playing around, experimenting, learned tons, I hit jackpot occasionally, like back of greeting cards with cotman paints...and best of all, now I only have good paper and paints. Hope it helps someone:) .i was away so I'm catching up on all the videos I missed and it's lovely :). What a treat.

So much info shared in this video, I will watch again because I need to take a few notes. I am amazed how you went back and finished your bird. I have to remember than mixed media is what I prefer over watercolor alone. I think my work needs that extra help to be what I want. TY for this real time share.

Thanks for the recommendation and links - ordering them now! 😀)

Hi Lindsay, I love this style of video - real time, showing us how you do the fantastic things you do, even if you don't like it. I love how your bird turned out and it's great you're always so authentic, not just showing us the perfect things. I've picked up one of the artist photo reference books, need to find some more and also actually use it, not just collect them, lol

Hullo Lindsay, I wish you happy birthday congratulations throughout the month! You are so kind offering your classes on discount! I have several years of classes and if anyone is on the fence, I will happily endorse you and your classes 100% ! Thank you for sharing this amazing video with your working methods. I have thousands and thousands of reference photos that I took myself, yet it is a serious chore to find a picture that I remember taking but they are not organized in the least. Yeah the situation is just not good. I see why people get sucked down that internet rabbit hole!
I think you are doing a wonderful job creating a painting everyday for WWM! You are creating some wonderful art work. Please take care, be safe and enjoy your day!

I liked this video very much. If it helps you to narrate after your finish the filming then go for it. You know, I bought those fountain pens based on your adorable drawings in the video you did. They are really nice.
I'm treating World Watercolor Month this year like the former student you mentioned - not following the prompts. I have a LOT of floral reference photos that I have taken and decided to paint a floral "something" every day. AND I'm using actual watercolors instead of my comfort-zone Derwent Inktense pencils that I love. I finally put my collections of Daniel Smith and QoR watercolors into their own pallets from tubes. I've actually completed a painting every day. Nothing too elaborate. I've done some line and wash and some loose. I usually draw the flower the night before. I'm working toward a Georgia O'Keefe-ish style. Having a great time! And no stress trying to figure out what to create based on esoteric prompts.

So great to see your struggles and know that not every painting turns out perfectly!
As far as Qor mixing with other brands, because of the flow, they can push other pigments out of the way in wet-into-wet techniques. As long as you know this, you can use it to your advantage (like creating the fairy lights effect by spattering nickel azo yellow into wet paint [which works with any brand of nickel azo BTW]). I can see how people would struggle if they don't know that.

All I see at this point is the drawing of the bird and I think you did great on that.
I loved my reading glasses, until I had cataract surgery and they put in lenses where I can see far.. Now, my reading glasses make my eyes tired ;(. Darn.
I am still loving this painting where you have started on the bird. Wonder what rain water would do? You are so down to earth about your painting and supplies. I love that. I do miss you water coloring all the time :). You are so right. I am afraid to go paint on those papers lOL.

As a kid, our water was so hard it ran brown, oxide brown sludge if you boiled it for noodles or mashed potatoes. We rarely drank or washed in it, because it stained even blue jeans & curdled soap. Back then there weren't softeners strong enough to purify it. Even in the kitchen, it turned any dye black! Koolaid was very weird & oh MY, My--My dad's bourbon on the rocks on the weekends looked like a black witches brew
🤓🤓Reading glasses, great idea, but no glasses is usually how I draw or paint..., plus I'd be afraid if I get another set I'll get them mixed up 🤣😂
🤓 I have 4 --yes-- FOUR pair of glasses, (or more)
One set is for pretty, one was for safety & close work when I worked on my jewelry, an older pair in case I get outside to fish or work in the garden, there's another one for everyday activities, & finally, a set for working on the computer Then I also have a set to sleep in, I can't sleep in the dark anymore without being able to look around me
I think that's six pairs, but the old ones don't count, do they??

Hard water 🌊 and granulation? Our water in Berlin 🇩🇪 is extra hard (please sky limescale marks everywhere!) but never really noticed that effect. Will test soon comparing with filtered and distilled water. Your birdie was adorable! Yourchoice of earth colours was perfect! I enjoyed your real time video - it captures the mixes and colour placing. Keeps it real. Good point about different supplies to fit different people's expectations - and how each of those s judges those supplies accordingly. Birds are always fun to paint! On glasses 🤓: i can only support your experience. Reading glasses made my painting experience more ch smoother. For everything else I have bifocals - i can see everything clearly, and do t need to change to reading glasses if I have to check the phone or read a small printed text. Progressives made me dizzy. I am happy with those options. I came to terms with being a person who wears glassesnow 😂

14:44 on companies changing formulas. In 2018 Maimeri Blu 🇮🇹 converted their whole watercolour line to single pigments and made a very open communication about it. The change is part of their uniqueness: no other company has a full line of single pigment watercolours. It's tricky when the changes are NOT communicated -like when Lukas was sold to Daley Rowney (owned by FILA, also owner of Maimeti, btw). They changed formulas or me ght have even adopted DR paints completely (the safety data sheets for Lukas are identical to those by DR. Hence, the paints are the same!). No open communication there. Very disappointing.

    • @thefrugalcrafter

Lots of companies keep changes under wraps because they are changing to save money/increase profits and not to improve the product.

Love these chatty videos. About your progressive lenses, I've had more than one argument with those techs about getting that near vision so low. I had one pair that made my eyes actually hurt having to look down so far. I had a very understanding tech once that had them exactly right and a supervisor came around checking people's work. He actually drew on mine while I sat there and never measured anything she had done. Of course, they didn't work. Some people have no understanding of how they actually work. You should be able to use those new progressives for everything!
