I just...I just wish Vision (Dream Bridge) played for longer than 30 seconds. Ya know? Anyone else absolutely love that track as much as I do? It's so calming.
A lot of the music here looks to be incorporated into the Daggerfall soundtrack - not just Oversnow, but other tracks. There's also a thematic chord progression that runs through a lot of these tracks - notice the harmonic similarities between Swimming Theme, Oversnow and Dream Bridge, which is found in Daggerfall too. Chord progression & melody in Night Theme is definitely in Daggerfall soundtrack. Overcast Theme sounds to have been directly ported across too. I had no idea a lot of the Daggerfall soundtrack comes from this game.
@@reunionproductions It's the minor sixth interval, here he uses Abm to Em, but in its major form, Ab to E, it becomes the "Fantasy chord interval", you hear it everywhere someone wants to create a feeling of adventure. Used in Daggerfall's "Sunny" theme.
Wow, thank you for recording these in such high quality. The Arena and Daggerfall soundtracks are two of my favorites of the Elder Scrolls series and probably favorite game soundtracks of all time. They were limited by the tech of the time, but they have aged considerably well regardless and the nostalgia is definitely strong with these tracks.
Maybe you only heard the Soundblaster FM synth version of the music when you played the game? This is the General Midi version of the music and sound different depending on wich GM compatible device you play it on, i used Yamaha MU100 but for best result you shoud probably use Roland SC55 as that was what Eric Heberling used when doing the music.
I was really upset about ESO, like, I was completely into the hype, after so much devotion and love for Oblivion and Skyrim. But then I got into Arena again, and a bit of Daggerfall, and really, I'm slowly starting to go back to the old wikis, traveling around in Tamriel, really getting back into the world like before. :)
eso was made by a different developer that doesn’t bother me as much as the disaster of Skyrim ripping all the old traditional elder scroll elements out of the game. I call Skyrim an elder scrolls legend because it has more incommon with its countpart spinoffs like Battlespire and redguard witch try a completely different approach. I dont mind the more D&D approach with classes on Arena and Daggerfall it made for a more interesting playthrough not to mention the replay value of just that aspect witch is what eso direction basically took.
Really? :/ That's surprising, but alright. What makes it different for me is that it's so bloody long after all the other ones - those ones are within like 50 years of each other, then this one's like 200 years after its predecessor. The leveling system I think needed to happen, leveling wrong is frustrating if you do it wrong, whereas Skyrim let you do everything and find your niche. Heck if you're a high level with no combat skills, just speechcraft and sneaking, etc, you're hopeless against "Higher level enemies". So that adjustment needed to happen, from the gamer point of view rather than a veteran, you know? For me Morrowind is the worst for leveling up poorly, mostly because combat feels so awkward. I can tell in Arena and Daggerfall when I make contact with enemies, but Morrowind's like, maybe I did maybe not. lol But I digress. I love 'em all. :) I want them to bring back the element from the originals of feeling like you're always being hunted, like Jagar Tharn's agents always after you at night and stuff. :P
Arena daggerfall and morrowind had very similar combat. Swinging a weapon was an dice roll but the roll was effected by many things.. In morrowind that roll end up being like how much fatigue do you have or the target, goes the target have any spell bonus of skill or attributes is the target absorbing any skills, do you have an fortify spell skill active, your skill in that weapon, strength, agility, whats the targets agility, what type of the 3 attacks are you making are you even in range of the target, whats the targets endurance, what type of armor is he wearing, whats his skill in that armor does that armor effect any attributes. Skyrim the combat got so simplified roll wise from a base damage on weapon no long scaling to damage no 3 different attacks damage scale.that roll was how much damage does your weapon have did you hit the target hit box and what mitigation does the target have basically thats 95% what happens behind every encounter in skyrim. There was plenty of classes that made it very challenging to start off with in the 1st 3 tes games most ppl quite arena and daggerfall it can be an very unforgiving game depending on your choices kind of the same for morrowind but on a lesser degree. Seem like as the series progresses the hardness drastically drops. 1st time I played skyrim I played on master and I thought it was pretty easy when you start ripping out rpg elements that really contribute to the hardness of the game. thought it was bad enough that magica regen in oblivion and now your health does lot of little things that makes you play the game differently. I guess I can understand the ppl who don’t like challenging games they could of offered options in a menu to please those ppl while at the same time having that core hardness intact. I always loved the ambushes made the game so much harder. They could of done that in skyrim with the dragons and possibly war/thalmor besides the scripted city attacks dragons really only agro if your in range theres no sense of being hunted same in oblivion with the static gates
for me, what would have kept the game more intense for me in Oblivion and Skyrim is being hunted. Oblivion was my first TES game I finished that mission where that one legionnaire was kicked out for corruption, and then as I'm traveling (in the thick of night in heavy rain), he charges me after hunting me down after a certain period of time. That was one of the most memorable parts of the game for me, as far as personal instances go. In TES 6 I hope they bring back that idea for characters who may be mad at you, except they hunt you like in the first two games, and you identify them by their calls or their sounds or something. Being at the tavern, or just wandering the streets, then you can learn to sense or track if someone's following, then deal with them. Could make city life messy though, NPCs would commonly die, which could affect a lot of quests, but maybe something can be done to integrate that to some degree. Like, sit at a tavern or something and some character's like, "The Dark Brotherhood sends their regards" and you stop them. I dunno. Was in the old games, in a much simpler, way, so seeing it return somehow would be kinda cool to see.
***** Actually Morrowind is what put them on the map and that was heavily influenced off the older games and the dice rolling of D&D was within the game. The main attributes acted to enhance combat because it wasn't as simple as you hit or you missed so many things hings on that witch made it an complex combat system. Now all the complexity is gone and in skyrim you have to go way out of your way to roll play in the game for example... Your in the dark brotherhood and side with the imperials or it could be the stormcloaks it really doesn’t matter after assassination of the emperor you think that would play out big into the other two factions, it does not in fact nothing you do matters. It use to matter how the reputation was put together for example in Daggerfall this would play out one of 6 game endings it had an effect on npcs and other factions. Now in Skyrim your doing fighter guild or mage guild nothing has an effect on the world or npcs and worst yet you could go straight knight fighter melee base character do the mage guild quest and somehow end up being the archmage, an character that has no experience in magic doesn’t quite make sense. This is the side effect of ripping out just one game element. Morrowind the freedom within the game allowing you to create any type of spell or enchanted item the only limitation was your mind. Now its heavily restricted in armor slots and enchanting and no spellmaking. You cant walk up to any npc and talk to them about any topic this would only make sense but the game no longer allows you. Classes forget about lore for a sec it was the main foundation game system to the series. The dice rolling was just one of many things that contributed to why the older games were so great. This is the downfall of an over causalized game ripping out too many traditional elder scrolls elements out ends up hurting it in the long run... Its hard to stick up to the bad development path of the series. Now I realize this is really the plague of all game series but that still doesn't make it acceptable. Theres few good game reviewers out there but everyone of them will point out the catastrophic downfalls of the later series.
Truly ? I know not how you have make... Arena is very punitive, he's popular just for her map. And I have never seen so much bug in one games, without spoken about the atrocious difficulty. But I agree that Daggerfall is underestimated.

I've never really considered MIDI a lot until I heard this collection. Every device I listen to MIDI music files on sounds so different it's quite fascinating.
First heard this playing Arena on a Media Vision CDPCXL sound system and Positive 486-33 PC. Both companies went extinct not long after Arena came out. I said screw it and have been building my own PCs ever since.
+Transcendental Airwaves It is possible i missed it even if i searched a lot for it in the game, please let me know exactly when it does play in Arena if you find it. Also as this music was reused in Daggerfall so is it possible you heard it there?
+Stefan Lindberg I heard it in Skyrim, not sure exactly where though. You should start there if you're curious, It happened at night in either a city or town. Or was it day? I dunno, but this should give you a few pointers on where to go.
I only broke into stores so i never heard that when this music was used :-) Well... actually it plays "Sneaking" when you break into houses... wich makes sense as the filename is "sneaking". Are you sure you heard the "Combat" music? Maybe it is random wich "break into houses song" it play... anyway thank for pointing this out as i missed it, i just played Arena and could verify that "Sneaking" was playing when you break into houses :-)
Anyone else getting a Final Fantasy vibe from this? It's more of a quaint, fairy-tale like fantasy compared to the imposing, grand epic of Morrowind and beyond.
Will Lu Eh using massive unpractical swords (Almost like a daedric abomination) when there are cars and trains and so on and so forth. In a time like that why can't you just pull out a m16 (or something similar to the universe of final fantasy) and proper bullets and be done with it? (As you can see I just hate unpractical fantasy that's usually linked with anime) but besides my complaining I see what you mean
Wow. This soundtrack kicks ass. Did you rip the tracks from the game. I already ripped your audio track off here for personal use. But I'd like to have the tracks individually spaced. How do I get em.
I extracted the music files from the game (in XMI format) and then i used an XMI player to record them when playing on the MU100. I have an old rarely updated page with those recordings here: www.ym2149.com/osv/
+Stefan Lindberg Thanks for this, this is amazing. Just finished the game a few days ago. I can feel already it was an experience just like the other TES games. I'll remember this for a very very long time with nostalgia and joy. Thanks for the soundtrack.
+unkles If you're still looking, I have them individually here in MP3 format - retrotracks.net/music/619 (I'll be naming them correctly shortly, as they're just in ID form right now)
Ah ha... was trying to figure out how the Character Creation theme from Arena wound up as the theme to Gateway 2 by Legend Entertainment. Looks like they both share Eric Heberling a composer, although the Gateway 2 theme sounds a lot more refined.
Thank you so much for uploading this. This is truly the superior version of all the tracks, their original state. Also, is it weird that I put this on most nights to help me fall asleep? The music is just so nostalgic and soothing, lol.
The piece starting at 40:20 is a rip off of one of the music pieces used often in the animated series Ulysses 31. Or at least influenced by. Here at time 32:24 ruclips.net/video/AEUpoA6_2r0/видео.html
Bethesda need to bring these stuff back especially the classic Tavern music. I would like to pay for these pack for TES 6 as well. They were so nostalgic 😀
I have the version Bethesda gave away as freeware... wich would be the floppy disk version, the music file comes with that version also. I could never hear it in the game even if i really tried all different conditions. The other "snow theme" was the one that always played for me. Now i have not researched this game 100% and there might be other "errors", especially possible at the end of Arena as i never played that far.
I just wanted to thank you for this. I have the original game midi files but this version is much better in every way. This soundtrack brings back so many memories as this game was an integral part of my childhood.
If you rip the music from the actual game files, then convert them to standard MIDI, it's possible to see exactly what instruments are being used if you open it in something like FL Studio.
dude youre great know i can implement all the greats from arena, daggerfall, morrowind, and oblivion into skyrim. All great songs in one great game lol
This is not a remake it is directly from the game... but you need an Yamaha MU100 and a soundcard that output MIDI :) These days so are there softsynths that can do equal or better job than the MU100 though, but i have no knowledge in them so i can not recommend any particular one.
Yeah, and if you check out the soundtrack to the PC game "Death Gate" you notice some of the tracks sound very similar there as well. The composer, Eric Heberling, worked on both games around the same time, so there's definitely bit of a sound cross over.
But this isn't ear cringing at all! This can't possibly be the Arena soundtrack as heard through my soundblaster sound card and my beige cream colored 90s speakers.
52:42 - Dungeon Theme 3 This song is a favorite of mine, and I'm glad it shows up in part 2 ruclips.net/video/CqUCz7E1s90/видео.html 1:12:11 47 - Dungeon Theme 7 - Dungeon 7
This is amazing - I played this game a few years ago and it was strangely compelling given its age and kind of wonky mechanics. The music didn't sound nearly as good in the DOSBox emulation as it does here, so thanks for doing this. By the way, any chance you could reupload the zip containing FLACs of this? The link in the description is a 404.
download link is now fixed :) And yes the music can sound different depending on what sound device you use, the General MIDI version of the music wich i recorded here probably sound best on an Roland SC55 since that was what Eric Heberling used when doing the music... but IMHO it sounds really good on an Yamaha MU100 also :)
Offcourse, I do suggest playing it and playing daggerfall while you're at it I find it the supeiror of the two but both are amazing games. Also make sure to download the patched versions from USEP.
Best Dungeon Synth album ever.
I just...I just wish Vision (Dream Bridge) played for longer than 30 seconds. Ya know? Anyone else absolutely love that track as much as I do? It's so calming.
Love it too :D
Same here. ( ◜‿◝ )♡
I love the rest of Arena's OST in general. It all sounds so... majestic.
d r e a m s !
Overcast theme always reminded me of the song Incense and peppermints by Strawberry Alarm Clock.
sincerelly very good for uploead of sound track ARENA really i love big up and thank you.

Elder Scrolls epitomizes the legend
Anyone else get chills from Dungeon Theme 2? 48:30
I want to listen to this in iTunes, but FLAC isn’t support. Do you have a download to this in wav, aiff, ALAC, aac, or mp3?
No sorry i only have it in FLAC format.
Elder Scrolls I to II = Soul, Elder Scrolls III to V = Soule, Elder Scrolls VI = no Soul(e). Of course I hope I'm wrong.
5 is lost soul
Every Elder Scrolls soundtrack is so damn good, but this one is the best for me.I like the old school MIDI style a lot.
The daggerfall soundtrack was the same as the arena soundtrack, with some extra tracks.
i like the sound blaster 2 a lot. but i cant find any video with it. i like a lot of snow day but in sound blaster 2 format.
I also like just the pure DOS sounds. I think I even prefer them
Yoda-sensei, nihongoWo wakariMashitaDesuka?〈与田先生、日本語をわかりいましたですか?〉
Yoda teacher, japanese did understandable? Hmmm?!
Too right mate oldies but goldies :)
They used "15:13 - Overcast Snow Day Theme (unused?)" in Daggerfall. I think it's called "oversnow"
Over Snow, yeah.
A lot of the music here looks to be incorporated into the Daggerfall soundtrack - not just Oversnow, but other tracks. 1:02:59 now that's what I'm talkin about
Pretty glamorous
I wasn't alive in 1994 but damn I can feel the fantasy in these soundtracks

I want to hear leisure suit Larry six on the mu80
Holy shit elders scroll 1 & 2 have amazing soundtracks....i just realized
I feel like these are better than the ambient orchestral stuff from Morrowind and later. Just my opinion though
I love checking out these older games. Its inspiring me to make new areas outside of Skyrim. I already have started on a few from Arena :)
I think this is the BEST Elder Scrolls Score!!!
thanks for uploading :-)

Midi makes everything better
"Overcast Snow Day Theme (unused?)" It's in the game files, however, the only time it plays is if it happens while you're in the Imperial City.
1:07:37 best till last.
Maybe you only heard the Soundblaster FM synth version of the music when you played the game?

Wow! Man you did a wonderfull job with this one. Thank you a lot.
I personally think the dungeon themes in this game is more unsettling than whatever atmosphere Skyrim and Oblivion wanted to pull
The floppy disk version of the starting dungeon music is so much better

Ok, nice to know I'm not hallucinating
Overcast Snow Day Theme does play in the game, I recall that one fondly, it's one of my favorites!
can i have the midi of the last song please (slideshow demo)?

I think you can find most of the MIDIs with a quick google search.
The Mu100's sound amazing, Always preferred Yamaha's tone-generators over Roland's.

Can we use this music for our youtube videos giving you credit for it?
sure no problem :)
@@StefanLindberg_YM2149 thanks!
You must not have played Arena or Daggerfall.
@@johnmathston2945 well I mean the first enemies you fight in FF7 literally do shoot you with guns lol
No track gets me pumped like 4:32
14:00 Reminds me of Gabriel-era Genesis
Stefan Lindberg thanks for the feedback.
Stefan Lindberg ok good - care of slow rate loading 500kb/sec and big files 200Mb and over.
+Stefan Lindberg Thanks for this, this is amazing. Just finished the game a few days ago. I can feel already it was an experience just like the other TES games. I'll remember this for a very very long time with nostalgia and joy. Thanks for the soundtrack.
+unkles If you're still looking, I have them individually here in MP3 format - retrotracks.net/music/619 (I'll be naming them correctly shortly, as they're just in ID form right now)
The music is not by me, i recorded the soundtrack from the games music files.
panning at 2:40 seems pretty weird with that impact sound
Elder Scrolls Arena Sounds Alot like Runescape music Wise, it really shows you how Old it is!
do you know when runescape was released?
Yeah I know for a fact its over 10 years old because I made my account when i was 9 and I'm 20 now
It came out in January 2001
Jason Stanford
oh ok thanks
Funny I still play on that same account and thanks to Runescape's Time Savings Program, I'm a Millionaire on Runescape lol
Jason Stanford
sweet....I'm thinking around playing Runescape...is it any fun?
I would love a longer version of the last track.
Ah ha... was trying to figure out how the Character Creation theme from Arena wound up as the theme to Gateway 2 by Legend Entertainment. Looks like they both share Eric Heberling a composer, although the Gateway 2 theme sounds a lot more refined.
Thank you so much for uploading this. This is truly the superior version of all the tracks, their original state. Also, is it weird that I put this on most nights to help me fall asleep? The music is just so nostalgic and soothing, lol.
is it just me or do they all start sounding the same after half an hour
Best tavern music ever.
18:11
The piece starting at 40:20 is a rip off of one of the music pieces used often in the animated series Ulysses 31. Or at least influenced by.
Here at time 32:24 ruclips.net/video/AEUpoA6_2r0/видео.html
Bethesda need to bring these stuff back especially the classic Tavern music. I would like to pay for these pack for TES 6 as well. They were so nostalgic 😀
Someone said that one of the Arena songs were remade into one of Skyrim's bard sings, but I don't hear it
lol! your midi unit is badass compared to my via ac97 sound card on a celeron 500mhz pc runnin windows 98 yet even that was a modern rig to run arena
Dungeon Theme 4 sounds like something from King's Field.
I love Heberling. I wish he still did stuff for games.
I really like Sunny Day Theme and the others with the same melody. That's why I looked this list up.
Ha! I came here without looking who uploaded this. Well done. :)
Yes i upload other stuff than music from Atari ST games ;)
Did they reuse some of this music in Daggerfall? The Sunny Day track sounds very familiar...
Overcast Snow Day theme is definitely used in the game (at least the CD version, a lot is missing in the original Floppy version.)
Do you mind if I use these for a little project I'm working on for a video series?
Sure use whatever you need :)
I just wanted to thank you for this. I have the original game midi files but this version is much better in every way. This soundtrack brings back so many memories as this game was an integral part of my childhood.
I have no plans at the moment for doing Daggerfall :-)
So what I've always thought are Daggerfall themes are actually Arena themes
Is there any way to find out the instruments used in all the soundtrack ???
If you rip the music from the actual game files, then convert them to standard MIDI, it's possible to see exactly what instruments are being used if you open it in something like FL Studio.
Thanks a lot Stefan, these music reminds me so many good souvenirs playing ARENA all the night 😃
I haven't actually played Arena, but this OST captures the comfy spirit of adventure like nothing else.
dude youre great know i can implement all the greats from arena, daggerfall, morrowind, and oblivion into skyrim. All great songs in one great game lol
Can it be posible to put this "remake" music onto the game? sorry for my bad english. if i can put this music i'll replay the game for sure
This is not a remake it is directly from the game... but you need an Yamaha MU100 and a soundcard that output MIDI :)
These days so are there softsynths that can do equal or better job than the MU100 though, but i have no knowledge in them so i can not recommend any particular one.
Stefan Lindberg thank you for your answer, i supposed that you remake the music
+Hugo Ramirez You can load up a high quality SoundFont and set that up in DOSBox, that'll get you something close to this.
Yamaha made some pretty mlg sound cards. :P
I'm not the biggest fan of Arena, but the music is some of the best I've ever heard.
If you want TES soundtracks, Check out my playlist. Complete Soundtrack.
Thank you for this old precious little gem
Wait, this is Arena's OST? I never knew Daggerfall borrowed so many songs from Arena!
Yeah, and if you check out the soundtrack to the PC game "Death Gate" you notice some of the tracks sound very similar there as well. The composer, Eric Heberling, worked on both games around the same time, so there's definitely bit of a sound cross over.
Those sweets ms dos beats
Ria Silmanes theme is so dreamy
omg you absolute genius
Wait did you recreate these on a piano?
Jagar Tharn and 3 of his minions disliked.
Can you provide a download link to the soundtrack?
Download link can now be found in the description :)
Stefan Lindberg Thanks! 😃
I agree! You absolutely must do daggerfall. :)
if only i could get those midi files...
Haven’t played any of the games before Skyrim, but this gives me strong Age of Empires vibes, and I love it!
You, sir, have earned my respect.
But this isn't ear cringing at all! This can't possibly be the Arena soundtrack as heard through my soundblaster sound card and my beige cream colored 90s speakers.
My neck broke as I played the game
07:48 is an absolutely fantastic theme, they should've re-used it in Daggerfall
No the music is only MU100 and it is the games music files that is played, i am not playing anything :-)
This is so good
pure sonorité i love the sound of yamaha in box or box at rythme
52:42 - Dungeon Theme 3
This song is a favorite of mine, and I'm glad it shows up in part 2
ruclips.net/video/CqUCz7E1s90/видео.html 1:12:11 47 - Dungeon Theme 7 - Dungeon 7
:)
Really cool. Love this music.
Very special game
This is amazing - I played this game a few years ago and it was strangely compelling given its age and kind of wonky mechanics. The music didn't sound nearly as good in the DOSBox emulation as it does here, so thanks for doing this.
By the way, any chance you could reupload the zip containing FLACs of this? The link in the description is a 404.
download link is now fixed :)
And yes the music can sound different depending on what sound device you use, the General MIDI version of the music wich i recorded here probably sound best on an Roland SC55 since that was what Eric Heberling used when doing the music... but IMHO it sounds really good on an Yamaha MU100 also :)
@@StefanLindberg_YM2149 thank you so much for fixing the download!
So is this game even worth playing?
Offcourse, I do suggest playing it and playing daggerfall while you're at it I find it the supeiror of the two but both are amazing games. Also make sure to download the patched versions from USEP.
