I still remember getting a copy of one of the old-school entries for my birthday, back when PC games came out on physical CD-ROMs. I had played this SIMs game at the nearby community college during some kids summer day camp program thingy and I really liked it and asked for it for my birthday not remembering the exact name, my parents not really understanding this stuff only knew I wanted some theme park creator with roller coaster in the name for my birthday, so they got me one of the Roller Coaster Tycoon games, forget exactly which one. Even though it wasn't the one I wanted I was still grateful and enjoyed it despite not knowing all the little intricacies. I still remember one time a ride exploded and people died as a result, I think that's when I stopped playing it.
Heads up, there are a few more control shortcuts that can get you around some frustrations. To change the footpath start location, just hold the A button, then move the pointer wherever ya wanna build. Same goes for changing which chunk or rollercoaster track you're working from, or with rollercoasters you can also press the L and R bumpers to step through the track piece by piece. I see you're clicking the 'X' to close menus a lot, but pressing the B button will close whatever menu you're hovering over, without having to go to the button. It is a bit hidden, but there are a bunch of things like that in the controls menu.
Apparently the zoomed out performance issues aren't at all on the hardware side of things. The Switch itself isn't struggling at all(for a change lol) and it happens still even with a completely empty park... So hopefully that will be addressed in a future update along with the addition of touch control capability... Aside from that, it looks like they've done a pretty good job with this port. 👍
I picked it up. It's still as addictive as Lemmings. I'd definitely be on the lookout if there is a physical version, in the future. I also, would like either touch screen and/or the ability to speed up the cursor. Otherwise, it's a pretty solid package.
RCT/RCT2 has always had some slowdown, has it not? I always recall some slowdown when zooming out both on PC and original Xbox versions. It sounds like the controls aren't worse than the OG Xbox version. I've never played the mobile version, so I have no experience with touch controls. Is there no slowdown when zooming out on mobile version? Thanks a bunch for the review! Gonna watch/read a few more over the next few days and decide if I wanna buy this game yet again, lol.
Bought my switch oled last month and decided that i would only buy physical games, on my pc and ps5 every game i own is digital so on the switch it's gonna be physical games only. I like the boxes and the size of the games and it looks nice in my bookshelf, this week my collection passed 30 games and I'm bying lots of games, so many good games on the switch, bying this game also.
Imagine being the art director on this and deciding that sharp vector graphics go well together with the old style pixel art. Cheap and badly designed port.
Imagine being this picky and stingy over an well done port. I have no issues with the game, personally. It looks and plays just as well as on PC. I swear, MOST people online these days..

Appreciate the emphasis on controls in this review! Was curious about that aspect of it. Will wait for a sale!

I bought it and its fantastic. Been playing it all weekend. If you're on the fence go for it, its fun!

At $25, I'm going to wait until Limited Run announces a physical release of this!

NO WAY!! They actually have the Rollercoaster tycoon 2 expansion parks too!! Gotta get this for Christmas!
yeah and no scenario editor so very limited to sandbox maps

We're working on resolving these issues. :)
@RollerCoasterTycoon didn't doubt it. Good job guys!
Next step: Building a Möbius coaster & using block brakes for fast queue lines
Thanks for the same great review!
I can't believe they dropped the ball on touch screen controls!

I love Roller Coaster Tycoon! 🎉
No custom scenarios/sandbox is a deal breaker for me unfortunately
RCT 1 and 2 never had a sand box mode. that was simply the "build m y own Six Flags park" scenario.
Remember it feing on original xbox was quite fun and took me 20 mins to master the controller
Would have loved mouse/keyboard support for this release. Love the idea of having this on switch but just can't tackle this genre with a controller.
The lack of touch controls is such a letdown

I have the mobile version and I don't think it slows zoomed out. It is very pixelated though
I think I prefer this one on my phone or tablet
It has been released in playstore since 2016 too
2:56 What????? Just went from a 100% buy to 0% buy, makes literally no sense to not have that.
People saying their waiting for a physical, idk... This is the kinda game you want digital imo
When
Why? Are you one of those Gen Z/Gen Alpha people that want physical media to disappear because you believe digital shit is the future now?
Yeah I don’t see big deal honestly at least it came out on switch honestly

A roller coaster tycoon 3 on switch is a better game.. This is pure nostalgia and I'll probably pick it up just for it lol.
To bad it does not have sandbox mode, thats a big deal breaker for me
Hand
I have played WAY too much already since yesterday.
But can I send the guests to their doom?
So... Is this game run in assembly lile the og?
Not anymore. It was rewritten in C++
You need a mouse for this or else it's almost unplayable
imagine buying this thing without touch controls
Imagine it! You'd be like... Playing the game!
@@JeremyEssen idiots who buy this shit despite no touch controls are literally the reason why we can't have nice things

Im sorry but what self respecting person would play this on anything other than a PC?
No one cares about your opinion
