    Fun conversation, a couple observations:
1 - BYD has a factory in USA, in California in fact. Builds buses.
2 - Volvo is a Chinese company. So already in USA.
3 - 50% of BYD is Hybrid (plug in). To me, it just seems for those who don't care that can be 120% fossil fuel use (because you are always lugging around that battery and motor).

Per electric bikes in the US: I lived in Brooklyn for 5 months about 4 years ago. Even then, ALL of the food and delivery places had already switched to E-bikes and electric scooters. They just make better economic sense, and ironically are more reliable in rainy and icey conditions than traditional gas scooters, and are faster than pedal bikes. And at the end of the work day you can just store them inside the restaurant and they dont stink the place up. They are so popular that NYC has had to pass laws restricting the sale of E-bikes to ones with UL approval, because the cheap ones were catching on fire.
That said, in other parts of the country, the hardcore Harley guys who have stupid plattitudes like "loud pipes save lives" will never make that switch... but that demographic does appear to be aging rapidly. And electric scooters will have to get an ORDER OF MAGINITUDE cheaper before they will be considered a reasonable alternative for people driving around on sub $1000 gas scooters that get 100 miles to the gallon.

'Do you think US auto makers will be in trouble' Elliot asks at 25.21. They will all be in massive/mega trouble without any government subsidies and bail outs IMO. Ford have a strategy and a couple of models with but zero/negative profit on the Mach e. The push back from their dealers and shareholders will possibly destroy them as a major car manufacturer unfortunately and Ford is probably in a better position than all of the other

    • @rogerstarkey5390
      @rogerstarkey5390 Год назад

      Ford.
Why not approach the Government and Tesla. Request to build Superchargers with to"Ford" branding under license.
If the Government is going to bail them out anyway, that's a good way to "transfer funds" without headlines if "ANOTHER Bailout".
      .
Suggest that Tesla add battery storage on site.
      .
      What's in it for participants?
Ford gets the cashflow from building the units, plus charge revenue, free advertising and association with a *reliable* network.
      .
Tesla gets network expansion (Magic Dock would no doubt be a requirement)
They also get a huge opportunity by using the on-site storage (Megapack?) for energy arbitrage when the chargers are idle (I suspect that's most of the time)
      .
The Government gets the network expansion (3-5 times the number of chargers for similar money), keeps a major company in existence without an overt "Bailout" and improves "green credentials".
      .
The customer, all of the above.

General Motors cancelling the Chevrolet Bolt EUV was such a weird and (honestly terrible) decision. Trucks are not for everyone (even though I do like trucks).
There is a small Chinese electric car sold in the USA, which is the Kandi K27. It's North America's most affordable EV (USD$13,000).
Buick is popular in China because their advertisements cater towards the Chinese youth, and yeah, I do see Buick cars in the USA catering more towards the older audiences. I rode around in a Buick GL8 back in 2012 during an overseas family holiday and it was a very luxurious minivan despite being on a very ancient platform (think Pontiac Montana and Chevrolet Venture platform). China is the reason why Buick is still alive today.
To answer Ricky's question about BYD in the USA, is that yes, BYD has a factory in Lancaster, CA. The factory there builds mainly electric semi trucks and buses. Yes, American-built Chinese trucks and buses.
Even though I'm Australian, I've heard a lot about the absolutely INSANE dealer markups happening in the USA. No one in their right minds would buy a car USD$40,000 over the actual price.

    • @patreekotime4578
      @patreekotime4578 Год назад +1

Not even remotely weird. I predicted they would do it as soon as they dramatically reduced the prices. Fire sale pricing. I also tried to warn people looking to buy a cheap Bolt should worry about serviceability.
Chevy's reason is fairly easy to guess: Ultium, one battery pack to rule them all. Or more precisely: one service training to rule them all. Remember when Chevrolet was threatening dealerships to train for EV repairs or leave? How much do you want to bet that streamlining said training was part of the negotiating they did with dealerships? Removing the Bolts was a no brainer for them. But it also brings up the reason I thought Ultium was a bad idea when they introduced it: its modularity and size means it will never really be appropriate for compact vehicles, and it also means they will have difficult competing with other brands on overall efficiency as well packaging space. Maybe they can make it work, but IMO they have sacrificed alot of flexibility for a modular concept that may or may not save them money.

GM must still honor the powertrain and battery warranty. When the cars are 10 plus years old there will be replacement parts available through the aftermarket. Nobody should be concerned about buying a Bolt. It's a great little car.

20:40 I think I agree with the assessment Tesla is more a Tech company than an automaker, even though they make cars, clearly. That example of a sound played by the car when the light turns green, is clearly user driven improvement, which is something you see throughout the development of Tesla cars. Very user focused, a clear example of customer journey done right, it seems. I'm not a fanboy, but especially now with the lowered prices, it is hard to come up with a car that offers as much as a Tesla does, at a price range and a milage as the Tesla does. And even though the prices have become highly competitive, at least here in Holland, it stil is seen as a premium brand, mainly because of the very approach offering a constant OTA update keeping the car in sync with modern times.
One thing I would love to see though, before I put my hard-earned cash in a Tesla, and it seems the market is slowly picking up on that notion, not just mine but clearly shared by many, the absence of physical buttons, is the availability of either Tesla or aftermarket options for physical buttons. I don't mind Tesla not building that kind of interface, but allowing for third party suppliers to build add-ons to bridge that gap would be awesome and possibly an option for me to cross over to the dark side so to speak ;-) (Ctr-Bar?)

How has USA progressed in terms of EV offerings and transition?
And How has China progressed in terms of EV offerings and transition?
Then we will truly know how quickly the Chinese is forging ahead and leaving everyone else in the dust. (because I can say with an truth, that the USA EV market and OEM's have moved nowhere in the last 12 months), meanwhile China has added a country load of EV's to their street, and added also a country load of Supply and Choice of Models to their industry.

I have kept a close eye on the EV market for 6 years.
I live in NZ where the ute(pickup) is king, opposition to EVs is rabid and we have few options for new EVs over imports.
Tesla is number 1 here. But the perception is that they're just for the rich or for arseholes (which is weird because Ford Ranger drivers are the worst).
But in 2023, the Chinese built BYD Atto 3 is our biggest seller in the EV market.
China is in full transition. They're decarbonising in a way that a 4 year election cycle cannot do. They have a plan and have scaled up already.
South Korea and Tesla are the only ones that are close.
Hyundai are not big enough to compete. Tesla may be hamstrung by Musk's image.
Japan is not in the game.
    Europe is too far behind.
GM and Ford are even later to the game.
The way I see it is that the next 10 years is China or Tesla (and China is also Yesla these days).
As long as that cybertruck doesn't screw them. I imagine the delays to that are because that's not where the future is.
What amazes me is how badly Nissan Renault dropped the ball. I was excited by Renault (I was in Europe at the time) before the Leaf came out. But their plan never came about.
Can European legacy companies come to the party? Maybe. But not any time soon.
China is already so far ahead.
While western jerkscare still posting press articles about whether climate change is real, lies about the sustainability of BEVs and pissing around with lies, holding back progress, China forges ahead. Korea and Tesla are also at the forefront, but can they compete with China? Maybe. But they may be the only ones.

With respect, I don't think it's purposeful blissful ignorance on behalf of the American public. I think it's a focused objective from the US government for generations to NOT show that people across the globe do indeed have it as good, but mostly better than the US in many regards which doesn't fit the Government & corporations narrative of keeping the US people "blissfully idgnorant" and thinking they are in the "Best & most Free Country in the World" that no other country can match.
If the citizens think they have the best of everything that can't be surpassed anywhere else then the idea is they won't complain - as they know no better.
It is up to the citizens to broaden their knowledge & luckily, social media is making a positive impact (for a change) in educating many, that other parts of the world - INCLUDING 3rd world countries - actual treat their citizens better. Whether that education wil help in the US is debateable as the corporations dictate the policies instead of the citizens.
I'll get off my soapbox now & enjoy the rest of the video 🤣

Tesla may not change the look of their cars but they change the way they are built so they cost less to manufacture allowing Tesla to cut prices and still make more profit than other car companies. I liked your comparison of Apple and Tesla. I like the way they both do things, the models continually improve under the skin but the base is the same (or looks the same). I hope that others see it this way too as it would be a shame if Tesla was forced to start restyling their cars every few years. If your car is pretty ordinary then fair enough, but if you have honed it to Cd0.22 then unless your changes improve on that, leave the outside alone and work on the gubbins you can't see.
On the subject of Tesla price reductions, I'm convinced they have more to do with Tesla passing on the economies of scale they are gaining rather than any external market pressures. It is entirely in keeping with the grand plan Elon has to make electric cars available to all for the good of all.

@@TomTom-cm2oq Well if you insist, then here we go.
      Aion Hyper HT
      480KW charge speed
L3 Autonomous driving, tested and confirmed by experts to be better than FSD.
GT version has 0.197 drag coefficient, with a 11.9kw/100km efficiency both better than any Tesla made.
It has 20+ Dolby atmos certified sound system.
All at the price of cheaper than a Model 3.
      Next up,
      Nio ET range
      500kw charge speed
Way superior luxury as mentioned in video, and this is a 10 month old video.
      20+ speakers like the other.
Again, also L3 autonomous driving. Wasn't as good as the Hyper version, but better than FSD.
Nio also comes with best in world aftersales service, NIO House and other benefits like life time charging, battery swap in 90 seconds.
So not only does this charge at twice the speed a Tesla does, it can swap as well in 90 seconds at a bay. Where is Teslas swapping bay?
      Now the new Xiaomi Su7,
do I have to keep going? Drag coefficient 0.195, 400KW charge speeds, 800km range (real world usage is 658km), complete suite of tech and comfort.
Would you like me to keep going?
PS. Tesla is stuck on L2+ autonomous driving because they couldn't pass the certifications for L3.

      @@TomTom-cm2oq If you really insist:
      1. Nio, Aion Hyper GT/HT, Zeekr, Yangwang and many others come with substantially faster charge speed than the highest of Teslas. 480KW, 500KW are a norm.
      2. All of the above achieved certified L3 Autonomous Driving, when Tesla is stuck on L2+ and can't get certified for higher. Elliot himself drove these cars, and confirmed their Autonomous Driving is in fact, better than FSD.
      3. All of the above have no less than 20+ Speaker, Dolby Atmos certified sound system
      4. Aion Hyper GT, cd 0.197 drag co-efficient, drinking only 11.9KW/100km, Better than any Tesla. New Xiaomi SU7 is even better at 0.195.
      5. All of the above have hugely superior luxury and premium vehicle feel. Again, confirmed by Elliot and many others.
      6. Many Chinese EV's despite using CLTC to rate their range, achieve a REAL WORLD range higher than that of the highest LR Teslas. The 800km CLTC Xiaomi SU7 came back with 650+km real world. Better than that of the Teslas 500 ish km range on its LR Real World usage.
      7. Almost all of the above Chinese EV's equipped with advanced APP connectivity, where Vehicle Summons actually work, and can memorise your garage up to 150m for summon and auto pilot parking.
      8. Nio and Aion Hyper comes with Battery Swapping capabilities, not only can it charge at 480KW speeds, it also has hundreds of swapping stations in their Turf where it can swap a battery in 90 seconds.
      9. Any of the above looks significantly better than the bland Tesla (but that's a personal opinion).
At the end of the day, I can throw out hundreds more reasons why they may be better in my opinion. Some choose to believe it, some will continue to reject their existence and progress. That's exactly what Ricky Roy is saying. "Why is there such a disconnect when it comes to reports about how they are advancing?" No one knows them, how do they go from not known, to suddenly making a car so advanced?? And we won't notice it until it lands on your shore, and it's too late by then.
This is exactly the reason why he said what he said. You can believe what I say or you can visit China and find out yourself or you can continue to bury your head in the sand, like everyone else, and hope to dear lord they don't land in your country and wipe out your Auto Industry.
So the choice is yours. Find out yourself, Believe in Reports, or continue to underestimate what they can do and their competitiveness.

stupid idea to rename the brands cause a successfull company does not need it or why could Mercedes and Porsche had such success, even BMW is so close to BYD even though Bayrische Motoren Werke must be far more complicated for an average american than Build Your Dreams - more or less a brand born on the battle field, the german BMW fighting the americans on the western front in france.
And now the marketing genius is saying what ?
The german tanks build by mercedes did not make it then but the cars and trucks considering that freightliner is simply a Mercedes brand like RollsRoyce and Bentley are also brands of VW and BMW, that VW company founded by Adolf Hitler himself and with the advice of Henry Ford that then did not build masses of beetles as it was supposed to but fighting vehicles.
You do not need a special brand for the american market cause if you are strong enough you succeed like dji had shown and all the german brands that conquered US markets - by demand and even with high prices. And it got even better cause Mercedes and Porsche got into the american dna considering that they became icons in the culture for example in the music industry when artist used the brands like andy warhol or Jennis Joplin. On the other hand american software has a dominant market share here without a tiny few exceptions like SAP maybe.
