They won, but the Emperor died (in Rome or somewhere) and they retreated until the new Emperor's policy was known. Mons Graupius is a mountain, but no one is certain which one. Antonine wall is the most northerly wall of the Roman Empire, the Picts (natives of Scotland) kept attacking the wall so they retreated back to Hadrians wall after 8 years (but some also say they retreated because empire antonine died). There is a lot more forts along Antonine wall and evidence of mine pits as they used forts along the wall to fend off the Picts (natives of Scotland), you can visit the forts today and see where the wall is built. Antonine wall in just above the latitude of Glasgow and Edinburgh so a great distance north from Hadrian's wall.

some of these comments, why there's always have to be an alternative suggestion., why not China's wall, why not Berlin wall....its a source of his inspiration, sometimes seeing it, traveling to it, experiencing it, mAke it stick to your head than a picture youve just seen....Ive only been to Boston once, for 4 days. but the experience stuck to me, after more than a decade is still strong, compared to the Grand Canyon, which Ive seen numerous times but only in pictures...how do you make a story out of that...

Actually It was Andriano who built this wall, an emperor from Hispalis (currently Seville, Spain). And then, thousands years after, they have shooted the last espisode from the 7th season. That when they bring the whitewalker in front of Cersei the Queen...in Sevilla. Those are the remains of the ancient city of Italica, in particular the ancient Roman Circus of Italica, 40 km away from the mentioned capital city of the Andalusian region in Spain.

Not to be too picky but the wall would be the Antonine wall in Scotland if you look at the map of Westeros the north is Scotland basically and the wall in got and The Antonine wall it further north... sorry for the geek out it’s still the same idea the Romans built it just a different wall 😂

  • @SterbenCyrodill

Interestingly, before I read the book and watched the show, I had a similar idea, inspired by the Hadrian's Wall as well.
A large stone wall with godly wards that kept the armies of Darkness away from it.
Well, TBH, GRRM has molded my story so much that now what was called the "Alliance Watchers' Guild" became just "The Watchers' Guild" and is now a decaying body, instead of a great, grand army.
