"Give me your hands, boss." This film always gets me ugly crying, John Coffey deserved better. It's even more heartbreaking now that Michael Clarke Duncan has passed away in real life. 💔😢
the scene when they are getting ready to take DeLacroix to the chair and he asks if things had been different they all could have been friends....I sob copiously
I met MCD in a diner in Orlando called Angels. Without telling him, I paid for his breakfast + was getting to leave. Before I could, he came up to me, thanked me after I’d said how much I loved his performance + proceeded to put double the amount his breakfast had cost into the charity box the finer had for providing decent breakfasts to poorer kids. He was a giant without camera trickery + a total class act. I wish him the best wherever he moved on to.
Absolutely loved his acting in this distinguished film. He earned and deserved an Academy Award but you know the Academy, they give the award to actors and or actresses who just do an “ok” job.
My now deceased father-in-law and I happened to be reading the Green Mile books independently and unknown to each other at the same time. During a family dinner, the TV in the family room was on, but on mute and a commercial for the Green Mile was playing on the screen. We both froze and said, "That's John Coffey!" One of the few times we saw eye to eye! R.I.P. Ray.
The same director Frank Darabont also directed the Jim Carrey movie called The Majestic. It was a flop unfortunately, but I would recommend it to you because you might like it
@westutterforever686 I love that movie because it was Jim Carrys,, The Razors Edge for Bill Murray. Right? And my favorite walking dead actress behind Maggie?😮😮😮
Stephen King himself has stated that this is one of the most faithful adaptations of his novels. Frank Darabont knocked it out of the park with this movie. And of course a marvelous performance by Michael Clarke Duncan. He definitely deserved an Oscar for his role in the movie.
I was about 20 when this movie came out... It was DEFINITELY within my top 10 favorites after just the first viewing! I've ALWAYS loved Stephen King's material, but THIS (along with "The Shawshank Redemption", and "Stand By Me"), is among THE BEST movie adaptations of his work... PERIOD! It's truly a timeless piece of work! 👍
I could not agree more with you. I was around 20 and struggled to read. Because of these films, I teach myself how to read just so I could read three of theses novels. Great movies great books. Great acting just to add that in.
Omg. Saw this in the theater. Sobbed out of the theater, in the car, and all the way home. Never had a movie hit that hard in the feels before. I still can't watch the end without crying.
I recently rewatched this, and loved the way Del was such a likeable character we could all root for. Then feel sadness from his tortuous execution. All despite being on "death row" for unmentioned crimes. I was even angry at the lady who said something about "the fires of hell" and "Satan's imps are waiting."
This movies is in my top 3, I love it so much. An incredible ensemble cast that inhabit every character they play. I own it on DVD and have sen it more times than I can remember but manage cry every single time I watch it. MASTERPIECE ! Thanks for this one, Minty ❤
I'm a big Stephen King fan, and this is the only director who has adapted King's work the right way. I love so many books by Stephen King that it's heartbreaking when Hollywood studios think that what makes a good movie is how much you scare people. King's books are more than that!
I liked your earlier commentary on this and this is just as great. You're right, "The Green Mile" doesn't feel like three hours long. My family viewed this several times and while we were watching it the first time, it was one of three times I saw my father cry. We were all teary eyed. "Mile" is a powerful, deeply intimate story. I thought it was interesting that the ugly, heinous crime that Coffey was accused of was focused on the same place that Paul's infection was located. It makes you think. Thanks for this video. It's as good as the first one. Keep them coming.
You made me tear up from the beginning cuz this movie makes me cry every time I watch it. It's truly an amazing work of art as was Michael Clark Duncan. That man was awesome and always missed.
I love this movie (as well as Shawshank). Thanks for a good review. But I'm a bit surprised you didn't mention the religious overtones. John Coffey (JC), angels, healing the sick, etc. I'm glad it wasn't an "in your face" aspect of the movie, but I think it was significant.
Interesting, I never thought about this as a parallel to the conviction and death of Christ. I was so invested in the then-and-there that this went completely over my head.
The movie was well done. If you read the book it's even better. I have to say that the movie was very heartbreaking at the end. Even so, it's a movie I will never get tired of watching, even though I know how the movie ends.
I first read it in a series of small books. I would read them on my breaks at work. When i finished one it was torture to wait until I got home to grab the next. After finishing the full series I found they had put the full story into one book. Lol It is a great story. The movie did such a great job of bringing it to life.
As an American... Fk Stephen king. That being said, The green mile is in my top 5 movies of all time. Michael C. D. Should have won an academy award. I believe him and Val Kilmer as Doc Holiday are the 2 biggest snubs in academy history. I'm a manly guy but this movie leaves me broken every time I watch it!! If you haven't seen it, wtf are you waiting for? Rest in peace MICHAEL.

Minty, thank you for covering this master piece. This is hands down one of the most emotional films i have ever witnessed. It never ceases to amazing me how much this film hits me every time i watch it. It is literally a masterpiece.
John Coffey was a great character played by an Evan greater actor who be anything from a gangster in the saints row video Game to being a very caring person who has a mentality of a 10 year old when he sees a film as portray in this film. Ironic how the critics said this movie was too long (being 3 hrs and 15 min long), but nobody threw a fit over Titanic, released two years earlier, being “too long”, as it’s one minute shorter than Green Mile.
I have watched this 10+ times and I cried every single time. Love the book, but the film takes it to another level.(and I'm not a fan of book adaptations, but this is so well done)
Every time I watch this movie, and they're putting John in the chair, tears start welling up and when the switch is thrown, I burst into tears. You gave one heck of a performance, Michael.
_The Green Mile_ was a remarkable film to me. It sucked me in, made me forget I was watching a movie, it just seemed so real from beginning to end. I had no disbelief to suspend, which for me is rare. ps- _The Mist_ is not to be missed, it is truly hell on earth horror. I'm still convinced that the kid needed to be sacrificed to end the plague.

The Best Stephen King Adaptation ever! 99% accurate to the books, (Stephen King himself said so) The only thing wrong with this awesome film is the sad fact that, despite all the nominations, it didn't actually win a single Academy Award. I actually saw it before I got to see The Shawshank Redemption but in my opinion, The Green Mile wins hands down. I also didn't think it was too long - in fact I was surprised that 3 hours and 15 minutes had passed after I first saw it. And yes, I left the Cinema with tears in my eyes. Great Video as usual Minty!!!!
One of the best films... Ever. And I implore anyone who hasn't seen it, to make a cup of tea, grab some biscuits and a box of tissues and give your evening up to The Green Mile.
For those wanting more Green mile / Shawsahnk-esque style of movies, I would recommend Shutter Island. It does draw on many similarities of those films.
This has got to be one of my favorite Steven King movies. Although King is known for the horro stories, this movie (and book) is a drama with a supernatural undertones. The other movie that is similar is Stand By Me (based on the short story The Body) which was a coming of age story. I was sad to hear of Duncan's passing. I remember him in not only this movie but also Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins (a funny comedy, IMO)
Thanks for the re upload minty! The original video was how I discovered your channel and I have watched pretty much everything on your channel. You're my favorite RUclipsr, keep up the radnezz minty!!!!

It's quite ironic that for an author that is known for writing (mostly) horror stories that three of the best adaptations of his work, The Green Mile, The Shawshank Redemption and Stand By Me aren't horror stories at all.
Minty you probably wont read my comment, but i wonder if you as a wildly filmfanatic has some recolections of the movie of Sindbad, Shazam in the 90's ?

ANOTHER TIDBIT ABOUT THE HEIGHT OF JOHN COFFEY: To make him appear taller while walking... the floor had platforms on it. MCD walked on a platform to the electric chair, and also when leaving the prison to go help the Warden's wife.
Another connection between the two movies is the cast, William Sadler (Heywood in Shawshank) is the father of the two girls, Jeffrey DeMunn (prosecutor in Andy’s trial) is Harry the guard, and Brian Libby (Floyd in Shawshank) is the sheriff who arrests John Coffey.
Snot and tears when I watch this film... Nothing but SNOT and TEARS! 🥺🥺🥺 I apologize if that's TMI, but MAN! I'm wrung absolutely DRY everytime I watch TGM...I can't sing the praises of this film enough. Every actor, the established ones as well as the newbies, really gave their all every second of that 3 hrs and 15 minutes... The fact that Stephen King was so happy about this adaptation of one of his most iconic books is awesome. Although not necessary, I know it must feel good for all those working on these projects when the author gives the thumbs up.
Fun Fact: There was a real-life John Coffey - though nothing like the Stephen King character, obviously - who once worked on the RMS Titanic as a stoker for the boiler rooms. On April 11, 1912, when Titanic made her last stop in Queenstown (now known as Cobh), Ireland to pick up more passengers as well as disembarking other passengers, John Coffey jumped ship and stowed in one of the tender ships in order to visit his mother. This unknowingly saved his life as four days later on April 15th, amongst the 710 survivors; only 45 out of 163 stokers survived, along with three out of 13 lead stokers and 20 out of 73 coal trimmers.
"There's nothing wrong with Shaquille O'Neal..." Except he's not an actor. He could not have handled the role like MCD did. It would have ruined the movie.
I have 2 favourite movies and they both co star the same actor although he looks so very different that I didn't realise for a long time, so obviously The Green Mile end also Jo Jo Rabbit , both of which have the great Sam Rockwell in them.
Yes a Really good Film and Michael Clarke Duncan will be missed!! I'm Glad its Running time is what it is because this movie Never has "Dull" moments. Good Job Mr. Minty!! Until Next time!
john Coffey = JC = Jesus. I heard King's idea was "sparked" (pun inteded) by the idea that The Saviour had returned, but as a black man in the depression Era south, and humanity missed it. just another layer/factoid to ponder for y'all!
Micheal C. Duncan was robbed of not getting awards for this performance.
I highly concur, shame that he lost out to Michael Caine for Cider House Rules, when Duncan's performance is arguably more well known.
💯
Absolutely 👍🏽
Fantastic performance 😢

I actually never realized the movie was that long. It's just so good that you don't even notice.
Synder justice is too long
I cried so hard when Tom Hanks asked "what am I going to say, that it was my job?" Such a powerful scene 😢
It's worse with John Coffey's response, that he felt it was a kindness because of all the ugliness and hate in the world.
that it was beyond his paygrade 😂
Tom Hanks is a beast.
That's the scene that just about killed me, I cried so much I could not see.

Fellow Stephen King fan here. I just have to slightly disagree here. I thought Rob Reiner’s “Stand By Me” was a work of art.
No matter how many times I see it, I still cry. Such a great movie.

This is my favorite movie ever. Seen it everytime I can.
Great video
Only LOSERS find this as beautiful movie , those who will Never Stand Together Against their Oppressors as we experienced last few years.
I think I'm the only person who can't stand this film.... This and forest f#@king Gump 😠
I have 2 favourite movies and they both co star the same actor although he looks so very different that I didn't realise for a long time, so obviously The Green Mile end also Jo Jo Rabbit , both of which have the great Sam Rockwell in them.
One the best casted films ever! Tom Hanks, a young Sam Rockwell, Berry Pepper. MCD, Graham Greene, and etc. They were all so good in this film!
Yes a Really good Film and Michael Clarke Duncan will be missed!! I'm Glad its Running time is what it is because this movie Never has "Dull" moments. Good Job Mr. Minty!! Until Next time!
Just out of curiosity,, why did this have to be RE-uploaded?.... (Some kind of crappy "copyright" issues?)
john Coffey = JC = Jesus. I heard King's idea was "sparked" (pun inteded) by the idea that The Saviour had returned, but as a black man in the depression Era south, and humanity missed it. just another layer/factoid to ponder for y'all!
