Best version of this song. Tarja was the the original singer...before replacements for her. Marco also practically the first male singer (earlier more like guests). These guys made their sound why symphonic metal became pioneered and they also created Nightwish. Rest is history.

I love Marco's performance here, he's a great phantom 'cause he adds something we almost never see from singer interpreting the Phantom : His version of the Phantom is more scary than most. And, to me, it should be. We're talking about a phantom, a ghost, something un-natural, to me it has to kinda frightening

One of my favorite Nightwish songs with Tarja is "Dead Boy's Poem" live from the From Wishes to Eternity" dvd. She expresses the lyrics not only vocally but thru her face as well, it is simply stunning to see and hear
One thing about Marko's style is it feels menacing, like the Phantom is that evil, haunting character

Tarja is the most operatic of the 3 female lead singers. Floor is the 3rd lead, the 2nd was Anette Olzon from Sweden. She is more of a pop/rock style. She never sang this, as she doesn't do operatic vocals.
You don't have to pick a favorite. They are all great singers, just different. It's OK to like all of them.
This concert was Tarja's last with the band. After the show, the guys gave her the open letter dismissing her from the band.
Of course it was Marko. he kills it in this song, as well as on their cover/tribute of Pink Floyd's High Hopes, where he sings lead.

Hello Emma, Nigtwish Army Italian Division here again. I am glad to see you wanted to follow the advice and make a reaction to this version as well. Now you have met Tarja and I agree with you, Floor and Tajra are different and a comparison is not possible because there is no better singer than the other but only two great different singers who are the history of Nightwish. Long life to Nightwish.

Marko Hietala (pron: HEE-ah-Tallah), a classically trained guitarist, bassist, songwriter and talented vocalist, is featured here with Tarja.
If you'd like to hear more of Marko, outside of Nightwish, I highly suggest the powerful, Tides, by Tarot, his solo band. And the more delicate Voice of My Father off of his latest solo project Pyre of the Black Heart (released in Finnish and English). Marko is a proper rock star!

Tarja Turunen Was the Original Singer by Nightwish she is one of the best SOpranos in Metall The End of an Era Show In the Hardwall Arena was her last Tour with Nightwish . behind the Show Tarja left the Band

There's no need to pick a favourite NW singer. Just enjoy their differences and appreciate their interpretations. They are all incredible.
Swanheart is a very beautiful ballad with Tarja. The whole From Wishes to Eternity concert is great.
The End of an Era concert with her was beautiful, but you can hear that she had a throat infection in some performances (Phantom is from End of an Era).
I'm glad you are not picking a favourite. Too many people get sucked into the comparison - but they are two of the best, but different like you say.

Tarja so lovely and magnificent.
Nightwish fans are and have always been enthusiastic. Which is why there was so much turmoil after this concert, when the band fired her. But that is another story, for a different day.
Andrew Lloyd Webber saw this and said it was his favorite interpretation of his song.

Floor is really versatile, Tarja is classically trained and her style really fits the symphonic metal style of early Nightwish. There is no need to pick favourites, as everyone knows that the best Nightwish singer is Marko:) All three female leads are amazing in their own ways. I really love how well do Marko and Tarja sound together in this (and some other songs).
My favourite Tarja's song is Over the Hills and Far Away, my first Nightwish song and I still love it.
This just makes me so happy. The chaos at the end is perfect

Nemo is really great to hear more of Tarja’s era in Nightwish! Huge fan of Ever Dream as well.
But also it would be really cool to see you react to something from her post-Nightwish days! Her cover of Supremacy by Muse is *fantastic* and really shows not only her killer-as-ever high notes but how much she’s worked to develop her lower range over the years.
Great job, this was her last time on stage with Nightwish she was fired after this show

I think I saw reddish on the cheek of Emma when heard Tarja´s singing. Tarja is my first n last Nightwish singer, also love Floor so much, but some songs like, Walking in the air, Sleeping sun, Nemo, Wishmaster never sounded so good with Floor. Also Tarja had not so good performances few times but it´s normal.
This is probably the only performance I like with first singer Tarja. With the one and only Marco.

I still love to listen to multiple variations of the same song by Nightwish.
My favourite to listen to back to back is "10th Man Down". Tarjas and Floors versions sound so different, they are almost different songs

Finnish R has a strong trill. You got the J right.
The surname had wrong sounding wovel, what you said a Finn would write Turanen (or Turaanen), while it should be Turunen.
Spanish speakers say Finnish names quite good, but they say J as H, so a Finn would write that as Tarha.
Finnish names are pretty hard for English speakers, that's why Finns who migrated to America often changed their name into English or Swedish ones. So we hear Tarja's name said in very many ways.
Marko changed his artist name as Marco, as he thought it sounds more international. Maybe he was right, maybe it's easier to remember. However, a bit before he left Nightwish, he said that he wishes to use the given name Marko again.
And Emppu's real name is Erno. But he is known as Emppu by everyone. English speakers actually say his name quite differently too compared to Finnish speakers. Most often it sounds like "Empyy" if a Finn would write how the English pronounciation sounds. The P comes as single while there should be double, and the last wovel sounds different.
Tuomas' name sounds usually like English name "Thomas" when said by English speakers.
Look for Brazilian singer Anna Maz, singing Kate Bush Wuthering Heights at Sing With Me Brazil.

With all respect to Henk, but Marko is just the most menacing phantom. His phantom is outright scary, which I think fits the character well.

Tarja is almost all operatic all the time.
I learned to love Nightwish with Tarja. Anette came and destroyed the whole band (for me) and then, came Floor to rescue my love... Best of all the singers i've heard in my life. Nice reaction! Maybe next react... "Your is an empty hope" with Floor. She have somethig new to show you, believe me :D

Excellent pronunciation with Tarja. The only small correction would be that in Finnish the letter "r" is always pronounced as a rolling "r".

I have things about all 3 lead singers that I love dearly. Personally my favorite is Floor, but I have nothing but love and respect for Tarja and Anette

I love this song, especially for how Marko steals the show in my opinion. Their are other songs that are a much better showcase of Tarja's voice including Nemo, Wish I had an Angel, Sleeping Sun, Everdream, and especially the gorgeous Kuolema Tekee Taiteilijan. These songs really show the beauty and power of her voice.
I LOVE Kuolema. Being an anglophone I have no idea what it’s about I just know it’s one of the ‘Most beautiful noises’ I have ever heard. As regards the other 4 tracks you have listed we speak as one, they are probably the Tarja era tracks I would take if I had to spend a year on the proverbial desert island.

Nice to see a Nightwish Tarja reaction. Tarja was real class, but I buy into the idea that she ended up too much of a diva for the lads. I understand it was Marco who gave the ultimatum it’s her or me. A very unusual track to go on a Nightwish album being not a Tuomas composition. Given the breakdown of relationship in the band at the time it may appear strange that this performance was so top notch. But then Nightwish are nothing if not totally professional. ‘Phase three Nightwish’ with Floor appears to be both totally professional but also a loving ‘family’.

Marko is the best singer of Nightwish.
the 3 female singers are great in there own ways. Tarja and Floor are both great in the studio and live, Anett was great in the studio but not so much onstage. Tarja and Floor are actually good friends and have sang together on stage.
the thing i noticed that make Marko Tarjia and Floor great singers is that no matter who they are singing with (outside of Nightwish) is that they know how much to add or pull back to match the other singers. some pairings seem like they just don't fit. but these 3 seem to fit with whoever they sing with.
I have seen this version soooo many times and it still makes the hair on my arms stand up. Fantastic. Marco shows he is not just a great backing singer but as good as most leads. In fact, Marco left the band recently to do solo work. Nuff Said! Although I prefer Floor as the lead lady, Tarja Smashes this out of the park.
Tarja really IS classically schooled opera singer. She i.e has taught to keep her torso straight, thus Floor allows her body move much more...
Tarja moves a lot more than Floor on stage. She goes from one side of the stage to the other. Floor usually stays within the same 10 ft radius.

I think Tarja it’s spinto Soprano, but she sing lyrical soprano arias and lieds, I think Tarja it’s scare to be spinto and she aboard only lyrical

They're both amazing, we fans are lucky that we had the privilege of enjoying such incredible vocalists so let's just enjoy the two of them for the great vocalists they are and let's not start trying to rank them. This is art, this is music, it's no competition.
Tarja = specialist, Floor = generalist. I'd take the first option anyday, just like I'd take a heart-surgeon over a general nurse practitioner too. But we're entitled to our differences :)
Did not like Nightwish back in the Tarja days. To dramatic operatic imo. Have you however heard Floor doing the same song together with Henk?
