      Yep, the self-harm stuff is what made me decide to get myself admitted to a hospital in hopes of getting the help I knew I desperately needed at the time. Crazy, bizarre thoughts; especially scary in the middle of the night. So, I try to remember to remind myself: "It's just anxiety", "You're not going crazy", "You know you don't want to harm youself (for others' sake, if not my own)", "This too shall pass", etc. Glad you've been able to move beyond this part. I'm still working on it, but this video gives me a glimmer of hope. Not sure what I would have done if I hadn't discovered Shaan (and the DARE people, and Dr. Claire Weekes). But, Shaan is my go-to guy when I'm in a rut.

    For me actively "not engaging" in thoughts was contraproductive, instead as my analytical nature of brain my brain wants to think things through and when I get thoughts I just tell myself its alright to go all out and analyze, think, reflect but not with the goal of the feelins going away, just letting my brain work however its nature is to work. So if you have an "ocd" type of brain allow it to be an "overthinking" or obsessive brain. Dont try to calm it down, just let it go all out thinking mode whenever it wants to. We all have different brain natures. With time thoughts n thinking just gets boring n you have this bs thougts just spinning that you dont care about. Important thing tho is realising whatever feelings n sensations pop up in your body is totally out of your control, so you are okay with feeling everything you feel whenever it pops up.

    • @Viccr72323
      @Viccr72323 10 месяцев назад +4

      I’m not sure this is good advice. Overanalyzing things is what gave me anxiety, health anxiety and stress and ultimately made me nervously ill. I read somewhere that anxiety is trying to figure everything out at once. To me “not engaging” in a thought is the same as when I do something that gives me anxiety. Not engaging is hard af and makes my amygdala shoot a stress response. But in the long run I am rewiring my brain and beating anxiety at the same time. With this being said I’m happy your method work but for most of us I believe Shaan’s ‘method of acceptance is best.

I have trouble remembering things. I often experience panic attack. I always have my heart beat more than 100. Even though it may be notmal but seeing the bp machine i just start fearing what the result might come and hence it comes with what i had thought of, heart palpitations occurs. My brain is my enemy it just forces me to think about things that may never happen. I always have scary thoughts about dying or having an illness or my limbs will stop working and i will have to cut it off. I dont know why i fear so much. I have lost every feeling within myself i just fear cancer and many more diseases. I can't stay calm I am always tensed and worried about it. I can't see my future i feel like there is only darkness ahead of me. I cant seem to understand anyone. People judge me for how i look but they never try to understand what i have been feeling. I cannot tell anyone my family blames me as if i am always playing the victim card but even if once they understood what i have been going through all these years i might not have suicidal thoughts everyday.

Then DP/DR sets in and Anxiety makes it feel as though that’s some form of confirmation. Even though I know it’s a chemical imbalance, my mind makes it feel as though it’s much more serious. You might have been on the wrong medication. Usually when you feel any type of negative side effect that won’t go away you should let your psychiatrist know. They could adjust the dose or change medication. I have violent harm thoughts and they happen the most when I am experiencing more anxiety than other days. My therapist thinks I might have pure O OCD. We are in the process of doing a questionnaire to see if that is the case or if it’s anxiety itself.

    Hi! Some of the thoughts can be something personal? I fall into the cycle some months ago, i feel that some of the symptons get away. But now i m strugling whit overthinking about one particulary memory froam the past, something that was resolved for me. But now it seems that i cant move on. Is normal, you think i should do something about it or label it as anxiety?

    Hey Shaan. I think you doing excellent work and have helped me. But I don’t agree with the statement “you are not your thoughts”. I hear this from other people also. We ARE our thoughts, but only a small part is us. We are thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Our thoughts can observe the intrusive thoughts and that’s where the power comes from.

    • @byebyepanic
      @byebyepanic  Год назад +9

      Thoughts are just an accumulation of memory recycling itself. They are not you. You are always the observer of them. Not the thought itself.

    • @Joethebro101
      @Joethebro101 Год назад

      @@byebyepanic Again, I’m going to have to disagree with that. The observer is just our thoughts observing those other intrusive thoughts we have. But that’s still very empowering. The fact that we have thoughts that can observe those intrusive thoughts is where we get our power from.

    The bible says take all thoughts captive with the word of God casting them down.. Speak the word,speak positive. .
    The bible says let the weak say I am strong. So say good and God truth instead of what it looks, seems or feels in the natural.

      @@thedadtris and the doctors who collude with big pharma and do not give us informed consent about the potential/confirmed dangers of psychotropic drugs are not? Coaches also tell us to consult doctors for medical advice, but these doctors do not know what they are doing more than half of the time. They do not even know how to taper us off of the drugs they loosely dispense. They are largely the reason why I have such a grim outlook on my recovery. I'd rather invest in people like Shaan than apathetic, cold doctors who have no idea what all of us go through.
