And they can be easily mass-produced. Sometimes simplicity works better than ingenuity. The psychology of knowing your dispatch won't be instantaneous if a human guns you down is more powerful than a disintegration ray gun.
On a technical level it's fine. Even pretty well written. Interesting and fairly entertaining. No denying that. But there is also something just fundamentally wrong in the story. Something profoundly wrong. It would probably take a story from another sci-fi writer to fully explore what is so wrong and so dangerous about it.

Have we not demonstrated enough destruction? I'm sure a more benevalent technology would be more intelligent and command more respect.
