Wow, I hadn't heard of Frome before you introduced it to me. I can't quite believe that was the case, it's such an interesting place and so close to Bath! Thank you LW.
Thank you so much for this - Frome is top of my list for places to stay when I eventually visit/move to the UK from Australia. I often 'walk' it on Google earth but this has audio too! 🙏❤
Hi there Penelope, it's a lovely little town isn't it and one we too would love to visit again. So pleased you enjoyed it, you might also like to see the Glastonbury walk... another place you might enjoy visiting. All the best with your visit/move.
@Living Walks thank you, I'll check it out! I was able to visit Glastonbury last time I went over there (12 years ago) so I'm looking forward to seeing it again, even if it's only virtual 😆
Morning @@penelopesparrow hope you enjoy the virtual meander, it's certainly a colourful and wonderfully eccentric town. Best of luck with your plans and all the best.
Love the older towns. I could have a lot of fun photographing all the buildings and people. Love this walk.. Thank you... Hi from Sandpoint, Idaho USA.
Hi HD, it might interest you to know that In 2010, the Frome Hoard, one of the largest hoards of Roman coins discovered in Britain, was found in a field near the town by a metal detectorist!
Good to connect with you AT. By the way if you ever feel like doing a footage exchange with us (perhaps a London for Dublin) do message us. We do that on the rare occasion with walkers we value! All the best to you.
What a special little place and so smoothly captured by you as always LW. Entering the lovely street at 0:41 was quite breathtaking. The area around 12:24 was lovely too.
I grew up in Frome many years ago. The area from 0:41 is at Catherine's hill. I remember it being desolate and only a couple of shops open when I was younger. After recently moving back there (staying for a year) it's changed an awful lot. The old poundstrecher is now a fancy wine bar for example. Still blows my mind how much it's changed for the better to be honest!
TRUE, BUT SUCH PLACES ATTRACT LARGE CROWDS AT WEEKENDS, WITH VILLAGE OUTSIDER'S AND TOURISTS. A FEW YEARS AGO i SET OUT DELIBERATELY TO SEE THIS TOWN, AND ENDED UP GOING HOME BECAUSE THERE WAS NO PARKING VACANCIES. SO, MAKE ENQUIRIES.
Welcome all to my charming hometown, I am what they call a fromey! Frome (pronounced froome) comes from the ancient Celtic word Frāmā meaning fair, fine or brisk and was founded by St Aldhelm in the mid 600's at the site of our church which sits in the middle of 3 fresh water springs one of which runs through cheap street where the Anglo Saxons drank from it. A later stone church stands here now but! One wooden Anglo Saxon beam survives and is found inside the church The site of Frome was situated in a dense forest of oak, yew and ash known as selwood forest which was home to a tribes of Celts that settled here from the Cornish coastlines, over the years it became known for its wool trade and has strong links to many surrounding covens during the medieval period, it was near here that king Alfred the Great fled the danish invasion of the great heathen armies and went into hiding on the Somerset levels near Glastonbury before leading the charge to rid the land of all the viking invaders, a tower to commemorate this achievement can be found outside Bruton known as King Alfreds tower
Hello there Ed what a pleasure to hear from a fromey and have a wonderful history lesson to boot. It's much appreciated, I do hope we've done your lovely town justice. We live in Leigh on sea and happily so, but if we had to move somewhere else in blighty, we'd certainly consider your lovely 'Froom'! All the best to you mate.
You are so welcome AW. BTW I watched and tried to comment on your Manhattan film but at the moment the YT glitch signs me out each time I attempt comment on a page. Anyway you know it was enjoyed! Good to see you're out of Singapore finally!!
Indeed i've heard of and seen videos of Frome but have never been there. It has a lot of character and is rich place to be. It has old world charm and a liberal culture. I'd like to visit someday. Very detailed walk around , i enjoyed it.
It's a grand place for sure and we'd love to go back and explore it more fully for sure. Hope you get to visit too someday. BTW I watched and tried to comment on your March Madness weekend film but at the moment the YT glitch signs me out each time I attempt comment on a page. Anyway you know it was enjoyed!
I lived there for over a year, way back in the 1980s. It really hasn't changed much, unlike so much of Britain. Your video stops, appropriately, at the Sun Inn in Catherine Street, which was one of my watering holes.
Ah...Somerset is certainly easy on the eye. Looks a lovely little town.
Indeed so BIAF. I'd certainly recommend it! All the best and thanks for dropping by.
great silent city guide and peaceful therapy, thank you.
Ah you're most welcome rayraybines. Hope you get to visit some day for real, I'm sure you won't be disappointed. Thanks for dropping by.
This is the great thing about this channel - I discover so many places I haven't heard of, and now really want to visit.
Well how good of you to say so LY&M, pleased to know the films are of help. Hope you enjoy your trip if you do get to visit.
What a lovely town! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you too for dropping by friend.

Funnily enough we hadn't either but discovered it on the way to Bath. We'd certainly return. Pleased to have introduced it to you.
These places are so exquisite and quaint!
Quite so Teresa, all the best to you and thanks for dropping by.

@@Eddy_Del_Lobo Ah we'd certainly love to return next time we're in your area. Thanks for being so welcoming.
Really good tour. Frome seems calmer and nicer vibe than some parts of Bath.
Morning @alistairreed3514, ah quite so! Pleased you enjoyed the perambulation, thanks for dropping by.
What a pretty town!
We do rather agree @daydays12!

What a lovely looking old place. It's such a shame it's blighted by that horrible busy road going through the middle.
Quite so Lee, be great to take a leaf out of the 'Dutch' book. Pleased you enjoyed it anyway.
Would like to visit this old market town i live in sundetland
Hope that happens for you Richard and you have a great time there!

I love to metal detect. One of my favorite BBC shows is Detectorist.

A very interesting walk around Frome. Old narrow streets are great for shopping and coffee breaks. Thank you for taking me to this attractive town 😍
Thanks for connecting fellow walker. I'll pop by to your channel shortly and take a peek! All the best to you.

Hello LW, you've done a beautiful job of capturing this quaint town, I love the narrow cobbled lanes.
Well good morning to you WW. What a pleasure to hear from you. Hope you're well and still enjoying your walking?
@@LivingWalks Good morning! Yes, all good thanks, I hope you are too. I enjoyed the warm sunny weather we had, not so much when it turned cold again.

Very wonderful walking tour, So many beautiful places, well done!

this is my town, i went to oakfield school next to the police station I see you in the wooded spoon.
And a lovely little town it is too, hope you're happy there?
EXCELLENT---BUT, WHICH IS-IT---FROME, AS IN HOME OR FROOME, AS IN BROOM ?
Ah you're not alone in wondering that @MrDaiseymay. Apparently Frome is the most mispronounced town in England! I it is indeed Froom as in broom.
My Maternal Grandmother had a cafe in Frome, Moons ago! Tell that woman to discourage children in muzzles ruined the mood, Thanks for posting
You're welcome.
Great video.
I'm your fan.
Oh thanks fellow walker. It's a pleasure to hear that and to connect with you.
very nice tour!

Where the heck is the microphone!
On the little camera!
Can I ask for Polish subtitles?
Done! :)
Radstock ?
We'd love to go sometime.
I'd live there, but I'm not saying "Froom".
Ahh.. ha ha righto!
Ghost town.
Ah, I'm sure that's not the case in full season!
