There's sadly so so many cities gone much the same way. The perfect example is how swiftly so many of those little independent sports shops have just evaporated from our towns & cities. Only JD & Sports Direct seem to control the monopoly now and they are 80% leisure wear, trackie tops or replica shirts of the "London/NW big six" or PSG/Barca/Real Madrid. You'll find a Newcastle United shirt, but only in Newcastle. Shops need the support to keep competitive with online shopping. I visit the area from Norfolk to see the family every so often & all I can do is look in the city centre & reminisce about how much nicer it was in the 70s/80s, especially when the Metro was only just built & you could come in from the Coast in around 25mins, get anything, then just hop on a train home. Now, I just come in & hope some shops still exist from my last visit, meanwhile the Metro fare's been ramped up yet again 😢

James - another excellent Northern City tour, I learnt so-much. Newcastle is indeed a lovely place, in some views it very much looked like Bath mainly because of Georgian architecture. Good camera work too, your b-roll is getting professional. Overall very enjoyable.
I love all of your videos but as a Newcastle native, I particularly loved this one. I loved how positive you were about the city and the area. The bookshop in the photos at the end was tremendous. It had loads of second hand books and my late mother used to love browsing and "getting a bargain". Brought back great memories. Elaine Page/Barbara Dickson inserts were hilarious.
Great video! When you show the old photos of the Grainger Market it shows my Grandfather’s fruit stall, T Justice @ 47:09. I can see him behind the counter!
I love it when you go on a pub crawl, it's what I like to do. I'm hoping to go to Newcastle for my birthday in November so I'll definitely be trying few pubs out.
I think the Newcastle Tourist Board (if there is such a beast) owes you a pint for this vid. I've been to Newcastle briefly once and remembered it similar to Leeds but nothing of the kind - it's a great place. Your anecdote about your dad taking you to football very early reminds me of a story about my dad. He wasn't really a football fan but wanted to see what it was like so he went on his own to see West Ham play. He's a gentlemen sort (exactly like Foyle off the tv). He stood half-way between two pillars for a good view (Pre all-seater). As people poured in he was jostled and excused-meed until when the game started he was behind a pillar and couldn't see the pitch very well...then people started pissing up the pillar. He never went again lol. Anyways great vid, great pubs found, like the architecture comments, cathedral nice, band...erm...not too sure about them lol. What a place to park though! Dixon - Paige - hilarious! Al sithy x
You were in my neck of the woods James I currently live about 10 miles from Newcastle. And it’s a great place. Which is why I’ve stayed up here cos I got family back down in Barnsley and some want me to go back there, but to be honest I prefer it here. I also love Barnsley but, I’ve just got so used to it here. The people up here seem calm and respectful of each other, and that puts me at ease. Unlike for example a town like Doncaster where there’s a sense of intimidation and threat and the people can seem prickly Glad you guys had fun up here

Helen is bloody right your pub crawls make these videos funny.helen works bloody hard within our NHS and deserves a good ole drink when she is off and your managing to grab a bit of time together ...keep it up and if anyone doesn't like it then that's their problem not yours or ours ❤
Thank you. I'll drink to that!! 🙂
Very well said
Newcastle our fav City in the UK..amazing people and place..love the channel 👍
It’s so very lovely in spite of the weather. I will add Newcastle to my next trip to the UK.
Visiting all the different pubs is what I like about your channel
I love the Art Deco mate
Had to buy you both a pint for coming to my home town of Newcastle sorry I missed seeing you both glad you enjoyed it ❤
Thank you so much :-)
Helen you seem to go from grumpy to loving life after a few on this vid, hope you are ok🍻
I worked there for Moulinex, McKeag and Cooper in the late 60's and loved it!
Thank you for visiting our beautiful city! You’re right the architecture in Newcastle is superb. Grey street is my fave. Come back when the weather is nicer..I promise we do get some nice sunshine ☀️ New subscriber too.
I'm a very proud Geordie, it always makes me smile when others discover wor toon ❤ too many people up here don't realise how lucky we have it - we're so close to the sea, moors, hills, and Scotland. Besides, Newcastle itself is a small and friendly city with something for everyone.
So glad this video popped up on my feed!
Used to work in Newcastle. Now in SW ,have not been back for 20 years so thanks for reviving some memories.Grainger market is where my mum used to get weighed and she was always too heavy! She might even be in your photos.
Dream Wife kick ass. Was NOT expecting them to show up here hahaha
I reckon Helen & you should go to Edinburgh! You’ll both absolutely love it.
Edinburgh is much better than Newcastle!
Or you might find it overpriced and pretentious…
A cracking tour of Newcastle I’m glad yous enjoyed it ❤
All those lovely bars you’ve walked by on Grey Street!! Some of your kind of bars up the side streets too!! 😭😂
I lived and worked in that city and left in 1997.Been back twice since and it’s sadly gone downhill a lot. Those photos at the end remind me of how it was 40 years ago.
Great to see a live band in a decent venue. Not been to Newcastle for years but this vid makes me think about going again. Yet again a 'real' video no gloss real life....love it. Lay iff knocking the Blades lol 😅 Keep these vids coming.
Another fantastic vlog. Thank you James and Helen. ❤️😃xx
Thank you so much :-)
The comedy content in this video was absolutely top notch! From your choice of soundtrack to some of your classic cutting remarks James...You really uplifted me on a day I am strugglimg....Thank you!🤗❣And on the brink of 40k subscribers...how exciting! X
Never been to Newcastle but heard lots of nice things
Ignore the haters, we love watching your pub crawls. Another great vlog guys 🍻
Yet another Wicked video!! Never been to Newcastle but it looks a top place and never heard a negative comment about it! Would love to go to St James Park… I’m hoping for a good Cup run and hopefully we can draw them away!! 🤞⚽️🙏 stay safe both all the best ….Smithy
Thanks Smithy :-)
Yall are a trip you could even do a radio program, the way you to feed off each other with your silliness. I ❤ it ! You goad each other on. I bet yall are a lot of fun. It reminds me a little of my wife and I. God bless! ❤ 🙏
What a beautiful city! Only been up for football before but need to get back up there soon. Great vlog James and Helen.
..bring your prayer mat .. lol.
My son lived in that Terrace outside the ground last year in his 2nd year at uni!
At minute 28:00 Newcastle Lemmy walks past you in his motorhead jacket. Its funny because me and my son laugh about him. We saw him in the summer walking round in his demin shorts and cowboy hat!
Haha, he is such a character!
So funny how people watch you just to criticise you haveing a good time 👍 just crack on and do what makes you happy 😊 and I know I enjoy watching.
What a brilliant tour of beautiful old Newcastle.
James - another excellent Northern City tour, I learnt so-much. Newcastle is indeed a lovely place, in some views it very much looked like Bath mainly because of Georgian architecture. Good camera work too, your b-roll is getting professional. Overall very enjoyable.
Thank you :-)
I love all of your videos but as a Newcastle native, I particularly loved this one. I loved how positive you were about the city and the area. The bookshop in the photos at the end was tremendous. It had loads of second hand books and my late mother used to love browsing and "getting a bargain". Brought back great memories. Elaine Page/Barbara Dickson inserts were hilarious.
Welcome to my city you 2. Glad you had a great time. There’s a lot of bars as I’m sure you’re aware lol.
Buildings in Newcastle are so similar to Glasgow. Just saw your channel for the first time. Lovely couple, another subscriber for you 👍
Thank you 😊❤️
I think the Newcastle Tourist Board (if there is such a beast) owes you a pint for this vid.
Al sithy x
Thank you, Im open to offers from the tourist board 😂
You were in my neck of the woods James I currently live about 10 miles from Newcastle. And it’s a great place. Which is why I’ve stayed up here cos I got family back down in Barnsley and some want me to go back there, but to be honest I prefer it here. I also love Barnsley but, I’ve just got so used to it here. The people up here seem calm and respectful of each other, and that puts me at ease. Unlike for example a town like Doncaster where there’s a sense of intimidation and threat and the people can seem prickly
Glad you guys had fun up here
Love your videos I’m
A geordie I have watched your Benidorm videos too. Loved the last bit of the old grainger market I used to go to goffs fruit & veg stall as a kid with my mam . Glad you enjoyed Newcastle 😁
Without doubt my favourite video so far . Brilliant content .
Thank you :-)
Hi James and Helen, I'm loving your channel and seeing what you get up to on your travels.
James, you're a man after my own heart and I feel we share similar values. You're also from my area so good stuff. "Helibobs " is an absolute treasure, she's chuffin lovely and she likes real ale, what's not to love?
Keep up the great content guys x
Brilliant cracked up with the inserts of Elaine Page etc... Then really touching at the end... Brilliant you two... You did sooo much... So enjoyed that thank you and makes me want to return as visited a few times but you two have shown me more thank you 💕💙 xx
I’ve never been to Newcastle, but I was pleasantly surprised by some of the gorgeous buildings.
Looked and sounded like a good gig 👍
Once you move out of the city there are some rougher places and depressed places. But the city centre itself has always had some great buildings and places to drink and eat
@@cultfiction3865 that’s same as most cities to be fair, but yeah it looks great.
Hi Dave, cracking video on the toon, just missed you by about 5 mins when you were outside the ground , would loved to have met you and Helen. You did the town proud keep up the vids, Pete 👍

Really loved this video, I think many people underestimate how beautiful Newcastle is.
I,ve been in the court house a few times. Thanks for your positive revue of Newcastle us up North need some good honest people like yourselves show we are not all ignorant Geordies.
Don't worry about the rain. Just traipsing around Newcastle no matter what the weather IS FANTASTIC!!!!
I used to live in Byker in the 90s, and my big treat was going for a cappuccino in Pani's Italian cafe on High Bridge. It was fantastic, and I think its still going.

Thank you for the reminder of how beautiful the architecture of Newcastle is and the people are very friendly.
03:08 The Tyne Bar is brilliant on Sunday afternoons in the summer, there's an outdoor stage underneath the bridge where they have live bands playing.
The photos and music at the end really choked me,happy days growing up in the Toon, thank you so much for this vlog, please visit again, “ gan canny “
