Turning off an overheating engine is not always a good idea. You need the water pump to circulate water from the engine to the radiator again and again. While rolling, the air moving over the radiator will help. While sitting still, the fan will help.
When you restarted it, the coolant year had been sitting in the engine getting hotter by the second got moved past the thermostat and showed all that heat.
Please look it up.
Plus the turbos need to cool
Its a very bad idea...
@@damien7964 actually, you need continous oil flow through the bearings of the turbo in order to prevent the oil from burning as long as the turbos are hot

Agreed 110% lol I never understood their logic on this, & how it’s even legal is beyond me. If you purchase something, it’s yours. Plain & simple. It’s cut & dry. The brand shouldn’t be able to have a say about what you do with it after you purchase it, like if yu wanna set the damn car on fire for the hell of it, then that choice should be yours to make, & yours only! But hey, that’s just my opinion, & yu know what they say about opinions. 🤣😅
Ferrari is the only brand/ automobile manufacturer that is notoriously known for sending out cease & desist letters, & 90% of the time, it’s due to color changes, & easily reversible “modifications”. The most “notorious” one was with “Deadmau5” when he wrapped his “458 spider” (I believe?) in that light blue wrap, & changed all the Ferrari emblems to that meme cat thing with the rainbow coming out of its a$$, & changed the actual “Ferrari” badge to say “Purrari” lmao it was even more blown out of proportion cause it was right around the same time he took it on “Gumball3000” from Miami to Ibiza. 😂 I personally thought it was creative & harmless, & honestly it brought a lot more eyes & attention to the car, & essentially it was free advertisement & publicity for Ferrari, but apparently they didn’t find it cute, or appealing lmao. & if I’m not mistaken, I think they actually went to court over it? Could be wrong, it was years ago, but it was a huge thing at the time. I’ll never understand their logic behind the whole “Cease & desist” nonsense. 🙄
You don’t grok that they legally can do this. Don’t you remember the tool a few years ago with the wrap that had the fucking kitty cat on it? Ferrari don’t play that. Ferrari doesn’t need someone’s business who wraps it and burns the clutch out doing donuts for content. They have enough customers that can be trusted not to fuck up their shit. You don’t have to like it. And they’ll deny you purchase and cease and desist your ass all day. It’s fun for them.
What a shame to see a Ferrari F40 reduced in this way ... they would make you tremendously angry if both Enzo Ferrari and its designer were still alive.
They’d be mad seeing the car being driven? 😂
It reminds me of a story about Maradona buying a F-40 in the 80's and returning it because it didn't have a cassette player or upholstery on the inside of the doors.
The car has no problem, it is you who do not know how to drive it and you overheat it. And then you don't turn off an engine like you did, you keep it running and open the rear hood to cool the exhausts and the intercooler.
There’s a guy in Japan that by now must have 60k miles on his f40. It’s just a matter of maintaining the thing and having the right mechanics working on your car.
That's not anywhere near as easy as you would have it sound. Nobody outside of dealerships works on Ferraris. And there's a reason for that. Ferrari does *not* sell parts outside of dealerships. This way, they keep it all in-house. And as he mentioned in the viddy, if you even _PAINT_ your Ferrari a non-Ferrari-spec-ed color, they will *SUE* you. No other brand in the world is so controlling.
I know it sounds crazy, but they have won every suit they have ever brought against folks who "fiddle" with their cars by changing them. Ask Justin Bieber. The same goes for *SELLING* one too soon! Just ask Steve Wynn the Casino owner. They took his _dealership_ away for selling a personal car he had owned for less than a year! (You can't sell your Ferrari in the first year that you own it) This discourages folks from buying these rare machines and then selling them for a profit as their value usually only goes up. Even body kits for racing, etc. have to be pre-approved by Ferrari, or you will find yourself in court.
As for the overheating, I suspect that he was having a thermostat issue, or running the car in lower gears (driver error) and keeping the revs too high. He said they just put a new water pump on it, so, they should have changed the thermostat ... but who knows? In a desert climate, you don't really need a thermostat, as it's meant to keep water that's too cold from getting to the engine. It could have been enough to restrict the flow in that hot climate, and caused the overheating. (Just a guess)
@@ThatRascalMerlin yeah but the japan are known for their mechanical fab work, they are more than capable of making the f40 better than wherever it was created.
@@nanzoransrexy I'm not sure of your point. I was pointing out, that since you can't buy parts directly from Ferrari, it makes it really hard to work on them, or even maintain them outside of a dealership. I didn't say it was impossible, or that people don't do it every day ... which they do. I'm just pointing out how hard Ferrari makes it to do so.
And not being so dumbass doing donuts with a mid engine 80s car
A thermostat is designed so once the engine is at operating temp, it allows for coolant to circulate through the engine and out to the radiator cores allowing time for the radiators to convert that warm hot coolant to a more appropriate temp as it’s circulating back in the loop and into the engine, there’s no such thing as to keep the water/coolant “too cold” it’s either warm or way hot… which no engine want to re circulate hot water back into the engine. There could be an issue with a thermostat but even if the thermostat was working, possibly the radiator fans aren’t turning on to keep the radiator core cool… not trying to rant on but just saying and this goes for any car, using this common concept on cooling
I'm 6.1 and have never had any issues driving my F40. Sure its not the best ever driving position but its an old car
Also not sure what you have done to your brakes but never had that sort of issue - its what I get with the CCB brakes once you have over heated them
Regarding the overheating - I've never driven my car in really hot weather so not had an issue
But a few years ago when I did the Mille Miglia there were F40s driving all day in 100+
I think you need an expert to look over the car and sort out a few issues
Also if the car overheats you should park up but you should leave the car ticking over not switch it off
BTW if you think the driving position is bad in the F40 try a Miura or Countach
Or perhaps, mondi can’t drive an amazing car like this.. he doesn’t seem to have respect for cars anyway, and this is quite annoying! I’m happy to hear you’re treating your Ferrari properly! I can’t own one, but genuinely, I treat my things right regardless.

It's nice to see one being driven. I'd think there would be a way to fix all the stuff that bugs you. Machine a spacer for the steering wheel (or go to a removable hub) so it sits back farther. Make it a flat bottom if you want more leg room. Maybe the clutch pedal could be made differently to move it further from steering column. You sit at a slight angle as the drivers wheel is where your feet would want to be. You can't really do anything about that, but maybe you could move seat over 1" so it's off center 2.5" instead of 3.5". And I'm sure something could be done about overheating. A bigger or thicker radiator, better shrouds and fans, ceramic coat or wrap the exhaust and turbo housings. Also people fix brake squeal all the time. Lube the back of the pads and guide puns. Still my dream car.

The engineer Nicola Materazzi (died August 24, 2022) was the man who developed this masterpiece of automotive engineering by himself in 1987. Talking about this "supercar" means talking about a Work of Art. Driving it requires respect, attention, and deep admiration for this man and for Ferrari brand. Seeing this video is a punch in the stomach for those who appreciate and experience cars. Seeing this car mistreated is something that causes physical pain to anyone with a modicum of intelligence. When your car is overheating the best way to cool it down is keep driving so the coolant keeps moving. Windows down, heat on and fan on high.
In a situation like this, you turn off AC and turn on the heater on max speed and heat, it helps relieve the car
These are not F40 issues. These are issuse where your PARTICULAR F40 needs its coolant system diagnosed and gone through. THEN it can be driven as intended. You should NOT have to stop driving because the car is getting hot. Something's wrong.
You should go to jail only for the color of the F40. Not even a MS 13 member would wrap the F40....

Altitude should have little to no effect on turbo charged power output. The intercooler was probably heatsoaked to hell after the over heating, donuts, reving etc. I don't know how much timing an F40 ecu can pull but that will cause a dramatic loss in power. NA motors lose much more power at high altitudes.

Additionally don’t forget to check the fuel and oil line every 2-3 days, lot of F40 burnt.
That fly by at the end 🔥🔥
One interesting thing that caught my eye, was that I have never seen a F40 with it"s hidden light up.
Be careful with that overheating car and I hope you have a fire extinguisher rated for car fires/or a fire suppression system installed on the car. My modified 426whp turbo 4cyl car used to overheat BADLY during track days during the summer and then one day it caught on fire as I was driving on street.. The car burned to the ground, everything plastic gone and even the metal itself started to melt and distort. the damage was so severe that I never really will find the cause but my theory is that repeated overheating melted or popped an oil line to the turbo or warped the head/block to the point that oil was able to escape and hit the hot manifold... but the exhaust did blow out and fire came out the rear/melted the rear bumper so it could have been a turbo compressor wheel broke off and somehow sent hot oil into the catalytic converter (i'm not even sure that's possible) but yeah something went wrong. The day that it happened the car was behaving normally but then I suddenly noticed reduced power and elevated coolant temperature, seconds later the fire started. A month or so prior to the fire I did a heavy track day and it was pretty much I could only do 3-4 hot laps before the engine coolant temperatures got too high (over 250f) and the car would give me a warning, my car was probably fucked from that moment on but I did not know because I had no CEL and did not tear it down after the track day to see how things were... but whatever shit happens, I had full coverage insurance and they took care of me. My car had an upgraded radiator and mods for better airflow, but I had a bigger turbo pushing 426whp vs the stock 270-280ish whp that this car came with and with abusive heavy track driving in summer ambient temps of almost 100 degrees I was generating heat well beyond what the car could ever handle. The car already would overheat on track stock and I added even more power along with my increasingly aggressive driving as I get better as a track driver. I probably warped my head/block on that track day... and from there it was just a disaster waiting to happen. Shit happens, fires do happen and when they happen it will happen FAST and you don't have long to put the fire out. I have replaced my car with something I plan to keep stock but if I do go with another track car build in the future the first thing I do would be to install an automated fire suppression system in the car. I used to think that "It would never happen to me" but it did. Luckily my car was not nearly as special an F40, but I would hate to see something happen to that beatiful car. So please look into that overheating and get a fire suppression system installed.
Rule 1. Driving position is everything. That's my dream car but I would never own one other then to look at it.

Sounds like all the air might not have been bled out of the cooling system after the water pump replacement, which could cause an air pocket issue. Just a thought.
Do you not know to leave the engine running to circulate coolant? Next just spray the block with icewater! That'll help that engine a lot!
I never worked on a Ferrari but I'm sure the f40 got a mechanical waterpump, turn the engine off while driving to cool it down makes no sense for me. It needs waterflow. Italia can be very hot too, I don't think it's normal that the car overheats so fast. I would ask DK Engeneering, they have to know.
Lol wanted to post that too... Low revs, no pushing but keep the motor on to cool down the engine is far more efficient
There has to be something wrong with that car. I won’t pretend I’ve owned or driven one but through the years I’ve seen plenty driven, watched videos and read about them and never heard about issues like that. And it does get hot in Italy, for the record. I know you said you just serviced it but I have a hard time believing any serious workshop would let a car run hot every few minutes just because it’s hot outside. Also, don’t think it’s a good idea to turn the engine off instead of letting it idle to cool down as I imagine it does not circulate coolant or oil for the turbos when the engine is off.
Hey , I have a Ferrari Enzo all Oem being worked On can we please organize a collaborative business effort? Thanks , a car collector.
Agree, this car isn’t healthy.
The F40 was a race car for the road and there are countless videos of them racing (1-2 hour events flat out) with no overheating issues so how this guys car overheats within 5 minutes on open roads is beyond me.
And as for paying I think he said over twenty thousand dollars for servicing/maintenance for the dealer to allow the car to leave with brakes squealing and the steering wheel noises is beyond belief (defective brakes and steering on a car like an F40, doesn’t bear thinking about).

i really wonder: if after the water pump replacement, did the mechanic not get all the air out of the cooling system. the problem inherent with rear engine/front radiator cars is air gets trapped and creates a blockage to water flow. i would hazard a guess that the Ferrari engineers didn't overlook the size of the cooling system when they originally designed it, and i also don't think they would have required 100mph minimum speed to keep enough airflow over the radiators to keep them working. Italy does have it's hot spots (why the term Spaghetti western came to be), and even though I'm not a Ferrari fanboi I can't see them overlooking the cooling system.

The turbos will compress the air until the waste gate opens at a set pressure, regardless of the ambient air pressure or altitude. If the waste gate is set at 2.0 Bar, that will be the pressure of the air entering the engine, at sea level or at 10,000ft.
Hey , I have a Ferrari Enzo all Oem being worked On can we please organize a collaborative business effort? Thanks , a car collector.
thats my understanding as well.. they are able to Maintain a constant pressure and compensate for altitude .....
Never worked on Ferrari engines...but if you can pull the thermostat out, do it. Fill up your coolant all the way. You just have to drive slow for a while. It will take a lot longer for your engine to warm up enough for you to drive the the car the way it should be driven
this is the fucking worst advice ever…
Overheat is common if the cooling hasn't been done right. Very Ford.
No. Dont remove the thermostat, ever. Just fit a high flow, slightly lower temp, thermostat
Hack mechanic didn't vac fill the cooling system or blown headgaskets would be my guess. She should be able to handle all the abuse
Tips from F40 owner : switch ON the cockpit heater... water temp decrease immediately flowing throw secondary exchanger. You're sweating but it works!
This car is a jewel, an italian masterpiece designed by ing. Materazzi for Ferrari. I don't know how it is possible that you can mistreat her in this way. Honestly, it irritates me: a true car lover would honor the F40 with a respect you don't even know what it is. The F40 is more than just a hypercar. As a Ferrari customer, I only feel ashamed for you.
>the car is over heating since its 105 degree
>hauls it getting on the highway
lmao
Qui siamo oltre ogni limite del cattivo gusto, del disprezzo, dello sfregio e dell'impertinenza, e la cosa peggiore è che vedo pure parecchi like!
That fly by at the end was nasty 🔥
easily the best sounding turbocharged car for sure
Truth
Turbo S, RB-26, 2JZ
You should fill it with 110 octane. The engine management is primitive. If the engine starts detonating under boost because the intercoolers aren't cooling the charged air enough, something is going to pop in the engine (head gasket, melted piston, broken rod, etc.)
So, if the engine management is "primative", your resolution is to fill it with a fuel that wasn't even available during the prodution of the vehicle? That doesn't seem exactly the best choice for a car he admits to spending nearly 3m on. But I'm sure you have plenty of expertise wirh italian cars, right?
@@yabo1 I have experience with old Italian, British, French and German exotics, and as a process engineer at a fuel refinery. You can run 110 octane race fuel in the car, won't hurt anything. Thanks for your snarky comment, numbnuts
Clearly, there is something wrong with the cooling.
…he’s like the real life Mario Brother………….
That wrap is an insult, I feel like suing whoever is responsible for the wrap, also.
Also , I've seen better dashes, in home-made kit cars.
Other than that, cool car.
I don’t like it either, however it’s just a wrap and it dose protect the original paint work.

Reason for that driving position in that it was built for Italians ,short legs and long arms. 😂🤠🇫🇮
I tried to read through the comments to find this before posting but didn't so here goes. When a car is overheating, DON'T turn it off. Leave it running at least at idle, the second you have no water pump circulation, the temp will spike even more. Let it idle and coast down hill, and worst case, turn the heat to max, I know it sucks but it increases the amount of fluid circulating to the pump and the heater core is also just another water to air heat exchange so you get more cooling (at the expense of roasting in the cabin)
F40 should be red. Hate wraps.

Damn that thing sounds incredible. If I were lucky enough to have that I'd look into gettting the thing upgraded to run consistently over getting a 918.
🎉
Exactly, if it was 3m I assume there's money for repairs. Buying ANY used car ever ever ever, always assume you'll need money above the price for something, anything, it WILL need something. It'd be so worth it to just get this one right.
I'd respray it back to red but I can't afford one so it's just as well really.

I think it's a wrap he said, even easier
The more you pay the less you get🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Great investment👏🏼👏🏼
I love you honesty💯
Lol 😂@13:00s “Ferrariiiiii F40 ....want the power I give it to yoouuuu “ mama Mia
I’ve probably seen an f40 before, but it was Just a few short years ago that I actually learned what it was. I dont think theres a car out there that i want more. I’ve always loved cars but never went out of my way to learn about any of them, so now that I’m actually doing it it gives me an awesome feeling of appreciation for a work of art like this
Probably havent
You're at the beginning of the journey. Eventually you move on fro. Just liking cars, but you start getting into engines even ugly stupid cars will have you drooling when you learn about the mechanics.
More of an F50 guy meself

@@sasazapadnik9335 agreed brother..... F50's are definitely where it's at!!!!
They just have that look that says, I can do what you do,,,, only faster, better and all with this incredible body!!!!!! 🤣🤜🤛
I would sell the F40 and get a LaFerrari first or 918 second but the F40 is a super cool car just seems like it's not the best to really drive.
My dream car is a la Ferrari and I've heard it's pretty damn comfy for a hyper car so I'll gladly drive my dream car, I don't think I'll be disappointed
*Puts googly eyes on Ferrari headlights*
Ferrari-"So you have chosen death."
You completely ignore the world's car my friend.... If you're trying to use a turbo engine, born to eat road, as a muscle car, please review something about the engines
wow this is the first time I'm seeing F40 being pushed never heard the exhaust note before
Pretty sure a turbo car does NOT need thick air to function, hence why all the fast Pikes Peak cars are turbocharged
love the video.. i like how you actually talk about the car instead of just blah blah about the specs.... and history BS... and i understand the shoes for the car.. that has happened to me.. i would not like the offset steering and pedals at all
