Windu's purple boys are my favorite of these lesser known units. What a way to honor their general than to color their armor the same as his lightsaber. And Rip to the Lancer boys. Lancers in combat are super cool, but not very effective when the enemy has guns, tanks, starfighters, and artillery. Still brave badasses, if given the worst combat role in the GAR.
I mean it’s not that weird for 5th fleet Security. Part of the entire reason why militaries around the world have their own Marines (ie the United States Marine Corps or Royal Marine Corps) is that there is a necessity for troops specifically trained for ship to ship fighting, boarding actions, amphibious operations, and use as expeditionary forces.
I know some units have to get pasted to establish stakes & power-levels, but I kinda feel for the troops who have only the distinction of getting wiped out.
Real-life soldiers know they may die & must make peace with that. Fictional soldiers can't all have back-stories, but sometimes I am reminded that many are written for the purpose of being killed... it makes me want to ensure any characters I write into existance have an ultimately good purpose for being & dying, not merely to establish or raise stakes. @@dhaburuk6494But there are times when characters must be sacrificed in order to establish stakes. Hey Greetsly, did you know that there is a rare weapon in the separatist army. It’s called the j-10 dual blaster cannon, it made its first appearance on the battle ryloth and the second battle at geonoss in the clone wars.
Wow, one of the first couple of comments here. Great video!! Speaking of the 187th, I have 3 of them from the Lego set, and I plan to get another. Such cool troops.
I would say I hope to see more of these in shows, but I don't want them to be a let down so I'd prefer them to be mentioned in more books and novels. I am particularly interested in divisions focused on Republic security and covert ops because I loved the EU stories which had way more nuance, so it would be cool to a darker side to the Republic.
I like to think that 187th Legion and 187th Battalion are the same unit just the the 187th Battalion were led my Ponds and the rest of the unit decided to honor him like it was his specific battalions or something but the other Battalions just honor Mace
Ponds was the first commander of the 91st reconnaissance corps. I’m not sure if either 187th were part of it or not which really confused me. But yeah when ponds died neyo took his place.
I think a lot of this is more down to a later writer/producer not really checking (or not caring) that the details of the unit following Mace Windu had already been established and created new colour scheme and called them a Battalion instead.
I would take the Lego appearance of the legends 187th with a grain of salt. Both the canon 187th and the legends 187th got merchandise in the same year (2022). If I had to guess why Lego chose the legends version over the canon version (they probably looked up mace windu’s clone trooper on google and found that most sources point to the old version since the canon version is still relatively new). Bonus: it would probably be safe to assume commander ponds and lightning squadron in canon are part of the 187th instead of the 91st reconnaissance corps since the new 187th is based on commander ponds’s design.
I found out about the Clone Shadow Troopers because me and my brothers received the action figures from Target one Christmas. Clone troopers were my favorite action figures back in the Episode III days, and I loved the feeling of seeing a toy of something completely original, and then having a little backstory on the back of the card so that you had an idea of what the Shadow Troopers were. It's a damn shame that Star Wars kids today don't get to have that kind of experience with new types of Stormtroopers or New Republic trooper action figures (because the Sequels didn't have anything work making toys out of, and Disney made sure there was nothing to make figures out of, except Finn, Poe, Rey, Kylo and First Order Stormtroopers)
What about the 43rd Batallion? Also known as Killer Aihwa Their only appearance was during the Battle of Jabiim, they were wiped out on day 22 of the battle when the CIS ambushed the Republic at Shelter base, its unknown who their General was at the time but it is most likely to be one of the following Jedi, Dalnus Cam, Sana-Jis Ilowa, or Rallcema Bylissura.
This is a massive discussion. Short & diplomatic version - not as many Clones needed because local organics often fought for their own worlds, but certainly far more than three million Clones were needed to crew all those ships as well as be ground-troops.
In the 19th to the earliest 20th century Lancers were equivalent part of military's back then and there are only seen in things like state ceremonies or Parades or whatever..
I honestly like them being separate because that just means more clones were fighting in the battle than what we saw. No way only 35k clones defended the city on kashyyyk. All the other clone units that were there that wore green brown and mustard just bolsters the idea of how massive the battle was.
You know its probably something only I would care about, but I really wish someone would just go and decide on a set list of each large clone formation listing their numbers and how many sub units served under them. As well as smaller formations that seem to be pretty much autonomous, such as the 501st not having any established Corps they were attached to, while in other cases to seems that the Corps' deployed in their entirety as whole units.
Dude I always wanted to know about that one running green clone from the episode 3 visual dictionary, doesn't say anything about him oh and also I have 3 episode 3 clone figures I got as a kid with brown spot markings and no unit given hahah
The green Clone you are referring is probably from the 442nd Siege Battalion and the Clones with the brown markings are most likely from the 7th Legion.

The Clone troopers of the Grand army Republic just might be the coolest fictional army ever l love them
I still have no idea why Shadow troopers never got a Clone wars episode. They deserve atleast ONE episode of spotlight.
I personally think the shadow troopers should be a corps instead of a special unit because they are too cool
Shadow troopers are black ops bruh, there corps are classfied lmao
I have a feeling the Shadow Troopers were small in numbers, much like the Covert Ops Troopers from Legends.
It’s just like delta or devgru man. They’re so intense only few make it through training
There were numerous obscure units that are equally unique and obscure
Any strange and unusual units in the GAR that you didn't cover yet?
I half expected croshhair’s squad to be the covert ops units. The ones dispatched to hunt down their brothers.
