I think the reason they made captain Grey have green armor in the Bad Batch was due to all of the Coruscant Guard/ shock troopers in the bad batch. The writers wanted people to distinguish him from the other red clones
It makes sense. I like him better green honestly. Its better that way cause for red troopers there’s already the Coruscant Guard, the 91st Corps, and the 87th Corps. I guess the 21st Corps too but sometimes they look more purpleish than red.
Or they paint his armor to blend better with the environment

Listen, I love Rex, and im a huge fan of Clone Commandos, they did not get enough attention in Canon, but Fordo is amazing. Dude was a walking war machine, and you cannot convince me otherwise.

Yep, in the comics Grey held the rank of commander, whereas in the Bad Batch he holds the rank of captain.
I remember as a kid I thought Rex was the only Captain (and that Captain was a higher rank than Commander because there were barely any Captains around) and was completely windblown when I first heard of Keeli😂

So my way of patching up the Kanan inconsistency is that the red armor is their phase 1 colors, and when they transitioned to phase 2, they changed to green. Kanan is recalling these repressed and muddled memories while drunk and that’s why stuffs a bit mixed up in the comic, it’s kanan combining several memories into one.

Don't get me wrong I'm glad Rex got that promotion in Clone Wars Season 7 (which was long overdue), but "Commander Rex" just doesn't have the same ring as "Captain Rex".

I am a huge fan of the clones and my favorite clone captains are Captain Rex, Captain Vaughn, Captain Grey, Captain Howzer, Captain Wilco, and Captain Gregor. I wish that Rex was a commander longer instead of a Captain in Star Wars the clone wars. I wish that Captain Grey and his men hadn’t killed Jedi Master Depa Billaba and Caleb Dume. I even wish that Captain Wilco was a good guy and not a bad guy in Star Wars the bad batch and I wish that Captain Wilco wasn’t killed by Admiral Rampart either.

Jup. You can actually see him in the original trilogy. There is an old man in the Rebel Squad on Endor with a grey beard and Dave Filoni thought: This could be Rex!!! And then they made it canon at the end of Rebels.
